We're at a point where I've pulled some plotlines out of the Ethan-arc episodes. In this case, Meredith was inspired to ask for the genetic testing earlier. The chapter after next will come with a time-jump that's (obviously) not there in canon.
Apart from it just being better for the narrative, I did this because to keep things condensed to follow Paul's story (like they've never stretched out a recovery) the show essentially drops a month of Meredith's pregnancy. Trust the girl who made the timeline - there's no way to square her being thirty-seven weeks where Derek says she's "three weeks" from her due date based on in-show dates. (e.g. Bailey labeling her samples May 1st)
This is the first point where it's really impossible to make the time work. But this is the show that (I recently noticed) has the touch-screen in Derek's car showing 7:45PM both before he gets involved in the accident and after it.
