I always liked mingling about the University during commencement.

I could people watch, coming back to my office to grade papers and exams.

But there was one student of mine whom I wanted to witness being recognized.

Dr. Conrad Bennish, Jr.

He has earned his doctorate, and now we will announce it to his family, friends, and the witnesses here.

I saw him in his cap and gown, smiling, before shaking the hand of the dean.

I later met him at the reception the University held, which served punch and various hors d'ouerves.

"Congratulations, Dr. Bennish," I said to him.

I felt proud of him.
