Hello and welcome back everyone! I hope you enjoyed the last chapter as this one will (probably) be one of the shorter ones as we reach the conclusion of this fic! (I have come to realize this story might be longer than first anticipated on my part) As all we really have left is more character growth for Adagio and Aria then the surprise final chapter and the reveals that brings with it! I also want to say this now so I can prevent any future things like it: I am NOT interested in any commissions from any artists so please do not ask me if you are an artist I am not interested in have commissions of my fanfics at the moment but that does not that you can't make art of them should you choose but I just am not interested in paying for commissions right now and for the foreseeable future. With that out of the way let's begin shall we?
Within Bedman's Nightmare Theater…
Adagio wakes up in this strange nightmare attempting to take the shape of an immaculate theater, she instinctively looks around from side to side feeling a strange energy flowing throughout this dreamscape, a strange feeling like an incredible weight is slowly crushing her. She stands up hoping this nightmare will end soon and she can wake up and act like it never happened.
"Ah, you seem confused as to where you are currently, this is my Nightmare Theater!" Pridefully says Bedman not currently visible to Adagio with his voice not helping make it easier to not be worried about the current situation.
"W-Whose there?" Questions Adagio backing away from where she heard his voice come from only to bump into something right behind her.
Adagio slowly turns around only to see Bedman himself towering over her his mechanical bedframe (which she always thought was weird for so many reasons) the wheels all over the bedframes mechanical body and it's head slowly tick and tick and tick before in perfect synchronization doing a full 360* spin over and over again, she takes a small step back only to watch Bedman teleport and cast a shadow over her as he is right behind her again.
"Apologies but I simply cannot let you escape as I have brought you into my dream for a very specific reason, there is also no ability for you to escape unless you are able to travel through dimensions that I do not know about which is unlikely as it seems your magical abilities are non-existent just like your respect for others but I'm sure you understand your own ego by this point especially after the events you've caused today correct?" Says Bedman his rapid speech pattern catching her off guard for a moment.
"What do you want?!" Hisses Adagio having already had a bad enough last few days and today was probably the worst with what just happened, her current expression showing her extreme anger as she stares up at the towering figure of Bedman.
"What do I want? Well that's a good question! I'm sure there are many reasons as to why I've brought you into this dream of mine; maybe I want to figure out your egocentric personality and its origins, perhaps I wish to know more about your species, maybe I want to correct your behavior in my own way, or potentially I just want to kill you and be done with it, you'll never know until I decide to get to it which will be soon" Says Bedman going on a long winded tirade about random things that don't really matter at the moment.
"I'm not in the mood for your games, freak let me out of here before I make you let me go!" Threatens Adagio who is beginning to lose her already almost completely gone cool as she clenches her fist and her face contorts into an even angrier expression.
Bedman just looks at her, finding her threats simply adorable and very funny.
"Pray tell what you can actually do to me right now? I think you're forgetting whose dream your currently inside right now and at the moment I don't see winning in your future but if you wish to go against the odds which need I remind you are stacked against your current favor then go ahead attack me and see if it succeeds but don't be surprised when you can't hit me even once" Mocks Bedman who despite having plans in mind for her right now knows it won't go well if she's pissed and won't cooperate.
"Rgh! You're so damn annoying! You're even worse than Aria AND Sonata somehow! I liked it when you couldn't talk because then you at least looked menacing now you're just pissing me off even more with all this talking! What did you bring me here for, dammit tell me!" Screams Adagio just not having Bedman's shit right now.
"Claiming I'm annoying is a personal opinion. Plenty find my way of speech rather charming like Fluttershy or Sonata or Deliliah my sister, either way what you think of me is currently irrelevant let's 'cut to the chase' as you so deeply desire shall we?" Responds Bedman.
"And I bet your sister is just as annoying and as much of a freak as you…" Mumbles Adagio thinking of the first insult she can on instinct to try and gain some power over the situation.
Her mocking of Deliliah has the opposite effect as Bedman goes dead silent for a moment which makes her think she's won—until she looks at his human face that is full of anger just as much anger as she had seconds ago, the bedframe slowly begins to walk forward its blades spinning much faster than normal and its mechanical eyes are glowing brighter than usual. Adagio slowly steps back as the bedframe approaches her towering over her small body in comparison.
"I'm going to suggest you take that back for your own safety" Codly responds Bedman with one of the things he'll never tolerate is the insulting of Deliliah.
Adagio thinks for a minute she could try and get a rise out of him like she'd normally do with people but then realizes this guy can fight Messmer easily and realizes should he want her dead it'd be better for her to dig her own grave at that point so she picks the safer albeit more humiliating (at least by her standards thanks to her ego) option.
"Sorry…" Mumbles Adagio who despite her attempt to seem genuinely apologetic is clearly doing it to save her own ass from a brutal death as Bedman's hands.
Bedman knows she's trying to save her own ass and isn't actually sorry but knows that being petty isn't going to get him anywhere and decides that just this once he'll let her go.
"That will do for now! Either way I have brought you here for one specific purpose as mainly out of curiosity I wish to learn more about you and your allies past and as it seems you are the oldest and most likely leader of this trio I'd say I am fair in assuming that you will know the most and can give me the most information" States Bedman having slowed the spiked wheels rotation and eye glow back to normal to show him having let it go for now.
"So you've brought me here just to learn more about us?" Asks Adagio suspicious of what he'll do with this information if she tells him the truth.
"Crude way to phrase my plans but yes that is indeed my goal for this conversation" Responds Bedman.
"And what will you do with whatever I tell you?" Questions Adagio attempting to heal her recently damaged ego and sense of self.
"What I do with whatever information I gain is up to me I may tell someone else of what I've learned, I may keep it to myself what I do with it is completely up to me" Responds Bedman.
"Fine then let's just get this over with…" Mumbles Adagio who just wants out of this situation already and is hoping it will at least be done with quickly.
"Good! Well then first question to start us off for this interrogation: Why were you trying to conquer Equestria? Was it simply an 'ego trip' as one could say, did you want more power and/or control or did you have something else planned for the continent at the time?" Asks Bedman warping the Nightmare Theater to a more typical questioning room with nothing but steely greys on the walls and ceilings and floors. Bedman now without his bedframe sits in one chair analyzing Adagio's every little movement and detail at rapid pace within his own head.
Adagio thinks for a couple seconds remembering their old plans when they were still in Equestria.
"At first it was just us wanting more power and control, we were just trying to show off to the other sirens so we picked Equestria because it was seemingly the easiest place to use our power in and was so peaceful so we just had to use our magic there, if we knew this would have happened we'd have chosen somewhere else" Explains Adagio.
"Ah so you planned to use your manipulation magic to control Equestria? And you were doing it to give you, Aria, and Sonata an ego boost by being better at causing trouble more so than any other member of your species?" Questions Bedman wanting to get as much information as possible from her before this investigation ends.
"Well yeah but it was kinda mostly my plan they just went along with me" States Adagio who despite this being thousands of years ago remembers these events quite well.
"Intriguing! Do you know why Sonata and Aria choose to go along with you? Were you three friends by this point or were they simply two strangers who randomly wished to go with you and you allowed them to accompany you?" Asks Bedman.
"I'd have hesitated to call us friends by that point more of just friendly acquaintances we didn't talk much even if we were together instead of with the rest of our clan from time to time, even now I don't know why exactly they went with me to Equestria I didn't promise them anything they just kinda went with me there…" Answers Adagio who sometimes still wonders why Aria and Sonata joined her in the terrorizing of Equestria all those millennia ago.
"Interesting! I'll have to ask them their original motives in joining you when I have my interrogation with them next! But since you've mentioned your 'clan' this now moves right into my next question: what of your homeland? Where exactly do you three come from? What was life there like? And what of your species? Are they all as malicious as you or are they more benevolent?" Asks Bedman who would say that these two questions are very important questions as while little is known about the trio themselves next to nothing is known about the trio's home or species in general.
"Our homeland? It wasn't anything like Equestria or this world nowadays, other than being underwater and all that. We sirens don't really have a 'structured' culture, society, or way of life like Equestria does, we didn't have any actual permanent homes we just moved from place to place in the sea and would rest wherever we could usually in coral reefs and rock crevices underwater and the only real leader we had was the one with the best singing voice of their own groups or clans" Explains Adagio the strange weight she is feeling in this place getting heavier and heavier as the interrogation continues.
"So similar to humanity during the Paleolithic Era? Simple lifestyle of roaming hunter gathering a part of small to medium tribes who have not do not have agriculture or permanent settlements led by one or two leaders. This leads into my next question. Your culture is seemingly heavily song based from what you said of how your clan leader is decided, yes? And your kind takes great pride and joy within the songs you sing and your magic correct?" Responds Bedman making mental notes of every word she says so he can write it down for future use.
"Yeah it's kinda the pride and joy to every siren ever," Says Adagio.
"Well then is—or was more accurately the magic you three possessed that allowed you to control the emotions and by extension actions of people and the pendants you shared a natural occurrence amongst your species and most sirens are naturally born with one or was it something you had earned? It seems to be the latter as the few drawings Twilight showed me picturing you three showed that your gemstones with your gems embedded into your chests" Asks Bedman.
"Our magic is natural and so were our gemstones, our gemstones grow as we get older and our skills with our magic improves. Each siren clans gemstone looks different and is colored differently too and style of song also changed from clan to clan" Explains Adagio who knew Bedman would have a shit ton of questions for her but didn't think he'd have this many and would ask such random things about their past and history and hopes this questioning will end soon.
"You three are depicted as having the exact same cut of gemstones and song styles so you three must be from the same siren clan correct?" Questions Bedman.
"Yes we all came from the same clan" Simply responds Adagio.
"I see, speaking of your fellow sirens it seems that as a result of little being known about your kind at the time you appeared in Equestrian history so you three are assumed to be biological siblings however these claims lack any and all sufficient evidence to back them up so are you three biological siblings as assumed by Equestrian historians or are you simply three sirens from the same clan?" Questions Bedman wanting to clear this specific part up.
Adagio chuckles a little but finding the very concept of being the sister to both Aria and Sonata very funny but eventually stops after a while so she can answer his question and get closer to being able to leave the Nightmare Theater.
"Us? Siblings? Yeah no. We just happen to be from the same clan" States Adagio glad to clear this mistaken interpretation of their trio up.
"Next question then: are your gemstones necessary to use your magic? As it seems after Sunset and her allies destroyed your pendants it seems you three are unable to manipulate people to the degree you used to be able to in the past" Questions Bedman who has many more question prepared for her but wants to save some questions for Aria and Sonata so he'll have to leave them out of this interrogation which to him is a shame but must be done.
"Yeah… Our magic is powered by our gems if they get damaged our magic goes on the fritz and if they get fully destroyed our magic basically dies if our gemstone gets broken and we don't really have a way to repair it" Mumbles Adagio still bitter about their defeat which this question reminds them of.
"I've heard that you three were able to absorb negative emotions from those your magic effects these emotions would give you power and energy, is this a natural effect of your magic as well or something you three learned later in life?" Questions Bedman who wishes to know all about their magic that he can.
"It's something we figured out while in Equestria, we knew we could sing and use our magic to manipulate them but then Sonata somehow came up with the idea to use that emotional energy as power increasing our magic in a feedback loop" Responds Adagio still shocked that Sonata of the three of them came up with that idea even now.
"Sonata is much more intelligent than you give her credit for, she may be childish but her intellect is not lacking, it's nowhere near as high as mine but she certainly is smart when necessary" States Bedman who can attest to Sonata being smarter than most assume.
"She could certainly stand to use that brain of hers more" Mumbles Adagio angrily.
"As loath as I am to agree with you I must agree that she should put that intellect of hers to more common use, either way next question: once you had ended up in this world millennium ago your goal was to get back and continue where you left off exactly correct?" Asks Bedman.
"Yes we never really cared much for this stinking planet or at least me and Aria never did, but not like we can really get back to finish what we started now. Even if we could get back, what exactly would we do? We have no magic. Our clan has probably long since died out, vanished completely, or been absorbed into another siren clan so what we knew when we got sent here is already long since gone. Even if they aren't gone they'll laugh us out the ocean the moment we tell them what happened to us" Responds Adagio who has long since given up on getting back to Equestria since the loss of their magic.
"That would explain your current state of being yes. Have you three considered attempting to actually live in this world now that you see no point in going back to the one you left? Or is it just Sonata attempting to?" Questions Bedman wanting to know why Adagio and Aria don't go out and enjoy the pleasures of this world.
"Not like this world has much good about it because humans can't not ruin something, when we first got here there used to be so few people it made hiding our agelessness easy to hide from them. But now? You can't take a walk through the woods without seeing one human along the way and it gets pretty hard to hide the fact you don't age when people are everywhere" Says Adagio.
"Well then your trio has done quite the good job hiding your true natures from people as I've checked the history records of this world and it seems nearly no one besides the occasional observer and historian ever actually put two and two together and even those that did were thought of as insane for such ramblings, so despite your incredibly high ego and sense of self you were able to at least keep yourselves mostly hidden" Responds Bedman mocking her and praising her at the same time.
"Why thank you—Wait, what is that supposed to mean?!" Smugly says Adagio before whipping to face Bedman who is currently smiling at her in his usual way glad to see her catch on after hearing the second part of his sentence finally enter her head after needing to be processed by her brain for several seconds.
"It means exactly what you think it means no deeper meanings to my words there! Moving on to the next question, you three are ageless, yes? Is this an effect of your now destroyed magic or is it a natural feature of siren biology?" Asks Bedman altering his sitting position very slightly.
"Natural Siren biology but our magic did help at least a little, it'll take time for us to age even in this world but we do age, just incredibly slowly" Explains Adagio in response as the weight from before is starting to go from a strange heavy feeling to genuinely painful but she does her best to hide it from Bedman.
"Ah so similar to other beings of your world like the near non-eistancetent alicorns noted! Hmm I wonder exactly why you sirens have longer lives than average, perhaps it is a result of DNA repair being within your species capabilities or maybe the ability of your cells to resist damage over time and the process of aging maybe a slow metabolic rate is the cause perhaps even simple lifestyle choices and diets affect your life spans and you three have taken great in making sure you would live some time? I doubt you yourself know the exact details of your own anatomy as it seems your people have not gotten to that point culturally to question the exact functions of your own bodies in detail as your kind seem stuck in the tribalism phase of your culture which may be a result of the longevity of your species which makes cultural changes incredibly slow preventing growth from happening at the rate it has happened for the other species of your world like the ponies or humans of this world. No matter, that will be a future study of mine then!" Rapidly lists off Bedman going on one of his classic and iconic sudden rants about a random topic which he knows Adagio gives absolutely zero fucks about.
Bedman thinks of his next question before deciding that should be enough from what he's learned for now as A: her alarm will ring in 70 seconds which will naturally wake her and while he could simply force her mind and body to stay asleep for as long as he wishes should he keep her within the Nightmare Theater and his dreams for too long it leads into problem B: Aria and Sonata might expect something is off as they know her well enough to know that her nor waking up with her alarm isn't a good sign. Alongside these there is problem C: she's clearly in more and more pain the longer she spends in here most certainly an effect of his connection to The Backyard being as strong as ever and he's certain if she stayed here any longer she'd most likely outright die and while they haven't had a long conversation with it only being a couple minutes within the Nightmare Theater outside it has most likely been several hours so he's going to have to cut this interrogation short and save any future questions for Aria and Sonata.
"As much as I'd love to keep questioning you it seems it would be best for you to go as I'm sure you can feel it by now but the sheer information density in The Backyard is slowly starting to crush you and while he have only been speaking for at most twenty minutes short of an hour it's clear your body is unable to handle the density even within my Nightmare Theater however you should be thankful that this isn't The Backyard in and of itself as if it were you'd have died the moment you'd entered it. That and in 60 seconds your alarm will go off and keeping you a sleep for any longer than that will arouse unnecessary and undesirable suspicion so I must end our questionnaire here!" Rapidly speaks Bedman smiling as he stands up out of his chair and slowly walks towards her.
"Oh thank gods we're finally done here!… How do I leave this place? Is there an exist door somewhere or does my body just wake up?" Shouts Adagio overjoyed to finally be free of this nightmarish place but then realising she has no idea how to leave.
Bedman now right next to her smiles slowly, stretching out one of his hands reaching for her face menacingly with his signature cocky grin on his face as he slowly covers her eyes with his hand.
"If my calculations are correct, which they always are, mind you you'll awaken in the waking world by the time I finish this sentence! Now before I allow you to leave I would quite like it if you keep this a secret for the time being especially from Aria as she is my next target for interrogation and will be quite the tough cookie to crack so to speak however I am quite-well let's say 'persuasive' in the obtaining of information I desire if need be so it will matter not to me! Regardless, this is goodbye for now. I hope you've enjoyed your time on the center stage of my Nightmare Theater, actor you may exit stage left!" States Bedman as the last thing Adagio sees before his hand fully covers her face in darkness is his shitty grin and the last thing she hears is his irritating voice…
And then she bursts awake to her alarm going off in her bed like nothing had ever happened. Sitting up in her bed panting a little from that horrid nightmare that felt all to real, she doesn't know what that place was or what the fuck a "Backyard" is but if it is related to that heavy feeling she never ever wants to experience it again for the rest of her life!
"Deep breath and even deeper sigh… God, that was one of the worst things I've ever experienced!" Cries Adagio hoping that will never happen again and quickly starts getting up hoping that she can push this experience to the back of her mind then promptly forget about it forever. She hopes that Aria and even Sonata won't have to go through that at all but from what Bedman said to her just now Aria is next and whatever "persuasion" he has planned to get her fellow siren to talk is not something she wants to even think about...
She sits at the edge of her bed before deciding to get up and move on with her day.
And that is all for today folks! I hope you enjoyed this chapter that I had originally planned to be out last week but took longer than I thought because I needed to come up with answers for Bedman's questions because the wiki doesn't have much to say about them so I had to fill in the blanks with actual information about them and their species but I'd say I did an alright job! By the time your reading this I'm already working on the next chapter which has been an idea I had wanted since chapter 1 but couldn't think of an important way to add in until the writing of this chapter so that's what's next but it will lead into Aria's interrogation at the tail end of it so don't worry! Anyway see ya'll next time!
