A/N: This is a fanfic story that has been floating in my head for a while now.

I have finished writing the whole story and I would just upload a chapter or two every week.

I decided not to drag any Bennett witch in this story. Let their bloodline have some peace.

Stefan shut his eyes closed as he pinned Katherine in place with the dagger through her heart. He could feel the heat of the hellfire approaching. Any minute, the flames will char his body and Katherine would be back in hell where she belongs. He will finally find peace and redemption with this final act in this mortal plane.

The flames came. The pain was excruciating but it was worth it because he saved them. The town was safe. His friends were safe. His brother was safe. He'd finally find peace.

That's what he thought.

Minutes after the pain of the hellfire and the certainty that he died, he opened his eyes. He was expecting to be at peace and find his friend Lexi waiting for him. Instead, he found himself in a familiar place, a place he had been once when he was serving Cade. He was here when Caroline killed him and he met Cade here in what seemed like a great hall of some sort.

"Good! You're finally awake, Stefan." He heard Katherine's voice from behind him.

"Where am I?"

"We are in Hell," Katherine answered. "Unfortunately, it seems saving the town of Mystic Falls is not enough to redeem you."

Understanding dawned on Stefan. "I thought saving the town will finally give me peace. I guess not."

Katherine grinned. "I am Queen of Hell and I need a king to rule beside me."

Stefan looked at Katherine. "What are you saying, Katherine?"

"You know what I mean, Stefan. Be my king. Let's rule Hell for eternity."

Stefan shook his head. "No! I will not be that kind of person again! I am done torturing people or souls."

"Look around you, Stef!" Katherine let out a laugh. "You are already in Hell! There is no redemption here anymore! You failed while you were living. I am saving you the eternity of being the tormented. Instead, rule this realm with me and be the tormentor."

Stefan fell silent for a moment. Katherine was right. He was already in Hell. What was stopping him to let go of his morals? She was offering him power to rule beside her. He didn't need to suffer for his deeds. He could let go of the regrets and guilt eating at him since the day he turned into a vampire. He was sent to Hell like he deserved for those sins. He tried to atone for sins when he was alive until the day that he sacrificed his life to save a whole town. He left his wife widowed on their wedding day to save the town but it still was not enough to redeem him. He's still in Hell. So much for being named Salvatore when he couldn't even save himself.

"I accept your offer, Katherine. I will be your king," he responded to her offer.

Katherine grinned. She walked to Stefan until he's just a foot away in front of him. She raised both of her hands in front of them at waist level. "Give me both your hands."

Stefan reached for both of Katherine's hands.

"I, Katerina Petrova, Queen of Hell, appoint you, Stefan Salvatore, as King of Hell who will rule beside me for eternity."

Stefan felt a burning feeling in his whole body like he was engulfed in Hellfire again. He fell on his knees. It went on for a few seconds until the pain was gone.

"How are you feeling, Stef?"

"It hurt for a bit but I feel fine now", he answered as he stood up. "I feel great, actually."

Out of nowhere, two blonde women appeared in front of them.

"Welcome back, Our Queen. We are reporting that Hell has been kept in order while you were away", said the one with shorter hair.

Katherine faced the two and walked in their direction. "You did well. Cleyah, Ravi, I'd like you to meet your new king, Stefan. He will rule beside me from now on."

The blondes bowed before him.

"We are here to serve you, King Stefan. I am Ravi", the one with longer hair spoke. "The one beside me is Cleyah. We are Keepers of Hell. We guard this realm to make sure no one leaves without your notice."

"You two may leave. I could get to know you in the future", Stefan dismissed them and the two were gone in a blink of an eye.

"I didn't know you had it in you to be that rude even there is no humanity switch."

Stefan ignored her comment. "When Damon got Elena and I married Caroline, I thought I won't end up with a doppelganger anymore. Apparently, I was destined to be stuck with you for eternity. You are the doppelganger for me all along." He started circling the room. "Cade liked to harvest and consume souls when he was ruler of hell. What did you do when you became queen, before you came back to Mystic Falls to destroy it?"

"Me? I was planning the destruction of that small miserable town in between torturing souls. I don't eat souls like Cade. I like torturing them. I have a feeling you'd find it enjoyable as well. I was there in the 20's. I knew how you played with humans before you kill them. Just because your humanity was off doesn't mean it's not you doing the deed. You just turned off the emotions. When your emotions were on, the talent to torture was still there. Why else were Klaus and Cade impressed with you?"

"I am aware I have the talent of torturing people. I won't deny that anymore. It would be useless."

Katherine pointed at a metal door to her right. "That door leads to more doors that contain individual sinners. As you enter each door, a book of their sins will appear in front of you. I am sure you will find a fitting punishment for each of them."

Stefan walked towards the door that Katherine pointed at. There's not much to do in Hell so he might as well start enjoying torturing the souls there.

Unbeknownst to him, in the living realm, he left a tiny miracle in Caroline's womb.

It has been sixteen years since Stefan became King of Hell. He found joy in torturing people. He let his soul be corrupted by the evil around him. He wasn't going to be saved anyway.

Stefan had just finished his twenty fifth soul that he wanted to torture that day when a voice called out to him.

"Dad!"

He turned around and saw his son Martin. He had his mother's brunette hair and his father's green eyes.

"You promised me I could visit the living realm on my birthday, Dad."

"You can go there with your mother", he replied.

"No. I always do things with Mom. This time, I want to visit the realm with you. I'm sure Hell won't fall apart if we leave it for a while. Cleyah and Ravi are here with Mom to take care of things."

Stefan sighed. "Fine."

"I also want to meet my uncle, aunt, and cousin."

Stefan looked at his son. "No. I am not showing my face to them."

Martin smirked. "We'll see."

Stefan opened a portal to enter the mortal realm. He was surprised to see they arrived at the Boarding House, or at least what used to be the Boarding House. Students were coming in and out of it.

"We cannot be seen here", he told his son. "You can wander around the town for a while. Meet me at a little coffee shop in three hours."

Martin wandered around town when he saw a familiar face. Stefanie Salvatore, his cousin. He had seen her once when he scrying on a bowl of water. He approached her.

"Hi. I'm new in town and I was looking for someone to show me around. I also want to know where I could find Dr. Elena Salvatore." He smiled. "I'm Martin, by the way."

"Hi. Stefanie. Why are you looking for Dr. Salvatore?"

"I just want to ask her about a research she did a long time ago", he lied.

"You're in luck. I happened to be her daughter. Let's head to the park. My dad would pick me up there in fifteen minutes."

They were walking to the park when they heard a car honk at them. They turned to see Damon Salvatore.

"Stef, good thing you're early. I don't have to wait for you at the park."

"Dad, this is Martin. He said he wanted to talk to Mom about something."

Martin waved his hand. "Hi, Mr. Salvatore."

Damon eyed Martin's face for a minute. "Okay, he can come with us."

"Thank you, Sir."

At the Salvatore residence, Elena was cooking lunch for the family when she heard the car pull over.

Stefanie entered. "Hey, Mom. I brought a new friend, his name is Martin. He said he wants to meet you. I am going up to my room."

Martin was behind Stefanie. "Hi, Dr. Salvatore." He studied Elena's features. His mom would look like that if she aged.

"So, Martin, you didn't tell us your last name. Where are you from? Do we know your parents?" Damon asked.

"Damon, don't scare the child", Elena said as she put dishes on the table.

"You know full well who my parents are."

Damon raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

"I'm Martin Petrova, Katherine's son. I'm also your nephew. Stefan Salvatore is my dad."

Damon's mouth hang open. "Stop lying, kid. Katherine was sent back to hell sixteen years ago and Stefan died that same night."

Martin chuckled. "Oh, I am aware of that story. Believe me, Uncle Day. But how were you so sure he found peace when he was consumed by the Hellfire?"

Elena and Damon looked at each other.

"So you are telling me that my brother went to hell? Even after saving me and this whole town?"

Martin nodded. "He realized he didn't earn redemption to be at peace. My mom ruled Hell with him for years. He probably isn't who he was anymore. He's a devil now. Hell has a way of corrupting a soul. He spend his days torturing souls and he enjoys it."

Elena reached for her phone from the kitchen counter. "I am calling Caroline. She needs to know about this."

"Why call Dad's widow? He probably wouldn't want her anymore. He has Mom. He's King of Hell."

"Because, my dear nephew, you actually have a sister", Damon answered.

"Josie and Lizzie? They're Caroline's surrogate daughters and Alaric's daughters. They don't have anything to do with me or Dad."

"No. You have an older half-sister named Lila Salvatore."

Martin's eyes widened. "What?!"

Stefan saw the grave they made for him. They added "NOW AT PEACE" to the tombstone. He let out a light laugh.

"If they only knew that I went straight to hell and became a devil", he muttered to himself.

"Stefan?" He heard a familiar voice. He turned around to see Caroline holding a vase of flowers. Behind her was a girl no more than sixteen years old with caramel-colored hair and blue eyes.

He flashed her a smile. "Hi, Caroline. Just visiting my grave. Just so you know, I didn't find peace. Saving my brother and this town was not enough to atone for all I did."

"How are you here then?" she asked.

"Katherine offered me to rule Hell beside her. I accepted. If I wasn't going to be redeemed and be in Hell for eternity, might as well rule it."

There was a sad look on Caroline's face. "You changed. It's like your humanity is off but you're not a vampire."

Stefan ignored what she said. "Who's the kid behind you?"

"Stefan, I know this sounds impossible but she is our child. When you died, I found out I was pregnant again but with your child. This is Lila Salvatore, your daughter."

"You're right. That sounds impossible. A vampire and a mortal having an offspring?"

Caroline shook her head. "I asked Bonnie to do a spell to confirm the parents. She's ours." She looked at Lila. "Lila, this is your father, Stefan Salvatore. He died when you were still in my womb."

Lila looked at Stefan. "Are you a ghost?"

"No, I became a devil not long before you were born. I rule hell along with someone else. I am sorry I left you and your mother but I cannot be with you anymore. It is best not to associate with me." Stefan looked at Caroline. "The man you married died in that fire. I am not him anymore. You buried that man."

Before Caroline could reply, Martin appeared from behind the trees. "Dad? I thought we're going to meet at a coffee shop?" He suddenly stopped to look at the two girls in front of his father. He recognized Caroline, his dad's wife. His eyes landed on his half-sister. "You must be Lila. You got Dad's hair color."

Caroline felt something bad coming from Martin. She immediately shielded Lila from Martin's line of sight. "Stefan, who is he?"

"This is Martin, my son with Katherine." He looked at his son. "I assume you met my brother and his family if you know about Lila."

"Yeah. I met Stefanie first. Uncle Damon gave us a car ride to their house where I met Elena. She really looks like Mom, only Mom doesn't age."

"Then we're leaving." Stefan's eyes wandered back to Caroline. "Do not worry. We are going back to Hell. We have no plan to cause chaos in Mystic Falls. Martin only wanted to see this realm and meet his living relatives."

A portal to Hell opened behind them.

Before Stefan could walk through it, Caroline shouted. "Wait! There has to be a way to bring you back."

Stefan smiled but it didn't reach his ears. "I always loved your optimism but there is no way to bring me back. This isn't like one of those times you could resurrect me from the other side or turn my humanity switch back on. I've become a devil. This is my life now. Goodbye, Caroline. Nice to know you, Lila." He gave them a last look before he went through the gate and disappeared.

Martin saw the sad look in Caroline's eyes.

"I will always love you, Stefan. I will look for a way to save you", he heard her say before going through the portal to Hell.
