Chapter 51: Celebrations

Jamie had quietly let everyone know that they were planning a spur of the moment party for Cora. He hadn't told Frank, Erin, Danny, Linda, Sean, Jack, Joe or Nicky any details as to why. Just that they were throwing a party for her. Sean looked at his father with yet another balloon he had yet to blow up.
"Dad how many balloons are we blowing up?"
Danny stopped with the balloon he was blowing up and took a breath before speaking.
"As many as it takes kid. We are going to need a lot of balloons. Attached to the doorways of course. There are babies in the house."
Danny was referring to Liam and Sadie. Sadie was now a year and a half and Liam had just turned 1. Keena walked into the room carrying a fussy Liam.
"Ow! Don't pull my hair Liam!"
Patrick gave Keena an unimpressed look.
"Give him here Keena. I'll take him. He doesn't pull my hair."
As Patrick took Liam from Keena's arms, she put her hands on her hips and frowned.
"That's not fair Pat. It's because you have short hair!"
Danny was tying up another balloon and once it was tied he looked at both his niece and nephew.
"Hey, you two, Pat, Keena, no fighting please. This is for your sister's party. It's a special day for her. Let's try and act like we get along with each other please?"
Keena looked at Danny and gave him a look.
"You sound like daddy Uncle Danny."
Danny let out a soft groan.
"I guess I do…"
Patrick rolled his eyes at Danny and carried Liam towards the kitchen.
"You look hungry baby bro. Let's get you something to eat."
Liam fussed all the way into the kitchen. As Patrick entered, he found his Aunt Erin was also in the kitchen, sitting at the kitchen table, feeding Sadie. Looking up for a moment, Erin smiled at Patrick.
"Hey Pat. Sounds like Liam is hungry. I know he likes the pureed peas."
Patrick smiled and placed Liam in his highchair. Going to the closet, he grabbed for a jar of pureed peas. He grabbed for Liam's plastic spoon from the utensil drawer. Having a seat in front of Liam's highchair, Patrick smiled as he opened up the jar of pureed peas. Placing the spoon inside the jar, Patrick scooped some of the peas onto it and spoke to Liam.
"Here comes the choo choo Liam."
Liam smiled as Patrick held the spoon up to his lips and he opened his mouth, taking a bite.
"Mmm. Mummm."
Patrick smiled at his little brother and fed him another spoon of pureed peas.
"You really like these peas, don't you?"
Liam continued taking the peas and eating them from the spoon Patrick was offering him.
"Mmm mumumumum…"
Erin gave a small laugh and shook her head.
"I remember when your cousin Nicky was this age. She loved peas too."
Patrick smiled at Erin and then turned back to his brother.
"Mama is going to be so proud you're eating your peas."
Pausing for a moment, Patrick turned his attention back to his Aunt Erin.
"She's done already?"
Erin quickly removed the bib around Sadie's neck and put it off to the side, picking her and taking her out of the highchair. Sadie clapped her hands and Erin cooed at her.
"Yes, baby girl. We are all done."
Sadie made happy sounds as the aunt and niece left the kitchen. Patrick had just finished giving Liam the last little bit of peas and was cleaning up his tray. Once that was cleaned up, Patrick noticed some peas had gotten on Liam's left leg.
"Now how did those peas get on your leg little bro?"
Liam giggled and patted his hands on the top of the now clean tray. Patrick took a wipe and cleaned the peas off his leg. Smiling, Patrick picked Liam up out of the highchair and they two made it back to the living room. Just as they came through the kitchen door, Jamie, Eddie and Cora came through. Everyone else in the living room yelled in anticipation.
"SURPRISE!"
Jamie and Eddie feigned not knowing about the party, but Cora was clearly surprised.
"Everyone's here! You guys didn't have to do this for me…"
Linda was the first to speak.
"Sure we did Cora. Now, is there good news?"
Cora nodded.
"Yes. The cancer is gone. No more chemo and no more radiation. I'm completely healthy."
Everyone in the house cheered and took turns hugging Cora. Joe brought up the rear and hugged her last.
"I'm proud of you Cora-cat. You've been so strong. I know poppy would be so proud of you. How strong and brave you been. I know he's smiling down at you right now."
The entire family turned to the photo of Henry up on the wall in the living room and smiled. They all knew that he was watching over them. Cora wiped a few tears.
"Thanks poppy."
Jamie quickly changed the subject and went over to a table with food on it. He flipped open a box of pizza.
"Here you go baby girl. Just what you ordered. A pepperoni pizza with extra cheese!"
Cora's smile grew.
"Pizza! You remembered daddy! Thank you!"
