10th October, Homicide Investigation

"Could you describe the relationship between Anna Árnadalr and Hans Westergård?" I had decided to question Gerda a bit more before going to Hans with the new information we had managed to pull from his phone.

"They were a young pair, madly in love. I mean, at least Anna was. I'm not sure whether she loved Hans or the idea of love, but Hans was more than willing to play the part of Prince Charming for her. I have never seen a young man as dotting. He was all smiles and sweet talk and seemed as if he would move mountains just to make Anna smile. There was always this weird, calculative aspect in him. He never seemed to be quite honest." Well on that we can agree.

"How did Hans get along with Elsa?"

"They were civil, most of the time. They didn't really spend time together, and especially early on his relationship with Anna, Elsa seemed to think he was using her sister. I often heard Elsa arguing about the wedding with Anna. She called Hans untrustworthy, fake, and gold digger. Later the arguing lessened, but Elsa didn't seem to warm up on Hans. She avoided him a lot, often disappearing when Hans was around."

"And the dislike seemed to be mutual, Hans didn't seem to care much for Elsa either. It kind of felt like he wanted to separate the sisters, especially early on. He didn't seem too happy when Anna chose Elsa to be her bride's maid. It was weird how much time he spent with Elsa after Anna disappeared. But Elsa didn't really talk, and Hans acted like it was his duty to take care of Anna's sister on her stead. He still wasn't willing to drop that prince Charming -act. So, I don't really know."

I was familiar with how untrustworthy Hans was. His actions always seemed to have some calculated ulterior motive only he was able to understand. Elsa had seemed to be able to see through him, so why was she allowing Hans to be near her. Was it voluntary, was Hans threatening her, or did Hans know something and was blackmailing her? There had to be something.

"How was Anna and Elsa's relationship. Before and during the engagement with Hans."

"Oh, you know how those two used to be when kids," Gerda gushed, and I hummed my agreement. I remember them as kids, they were as tightly knitted together as a pair of siblings could be. It didn't seem to be the case later in life though. "But the older Elsa got, the more isolated she grew," Gerda continued with sorrowful tone.

"Anna loved her sister though, even when it was hard. And Elsa seemed to adore her baby sister, it was just hard for her to show. For Elsa, love was about protecting those near her from everything bad. For Anna, it was going through everything, together. I don't doubt they loved each other, they just had hard time understanding the way other showed love."

"When Hans came along, Elsa wanted to protect Anna from heartbreak. She couldn't really understand how much Anna needed that emotional bond with someone, because Elsa was always so closed off. Elsa really hurt Anna's feelings with how judging she was about Hans. It doesn't matter whether or not Elsa was right, she should have been gentler with her sister. But in a weird way, Elsa's acceptance of the wedding seemed to distance the sisters from each other even more. They spent more time with each other, but it felt like Elsa was closing herself even more from the world. She stopped showing her true feelings, and gave Anna the sister she wanted and needed, not the one she had."

"Did the sister's ever fight? Especially on heritance or money."

"Yes, plenty I would say. Anna didn't really care for the money, and Elsa thought she was being too reckless with it. Anna loved the company, though. I don't think Elsa ever realized that. She herself seemed to think it was some sort of burden their parents left on her to shoulder. Elsa was too young and too keen to be perfect for such a high position in the company. I feel like she hated her job, and that's why she didn't allow Anna to play any part in the company. She thought Anna would hate it too."

"Do you think there is any possibility of Elsa hurting Anna?"

Gerda was quiet for a long moment, before answering. "I would love to say no. But Elsa sometimes had these episodes," Gerda explained like she was telling a big secret. "During these episodes, she would act unpredictably and aggressively. Usually she harmed herself, smashing her head against walls and things like that. But when they were younger, she smashed Anna's head against a tile floor, she had really bad concussion from that. Elsa couldn't remember these episodes, and she feared having them and hurting others."

This was completely new information for me. There was nothing on her records about any sort of episodes. "Didn't her parents ever try to find reason for these episodes?"

"Oh, yes, they did. They used private doctors; this issue really wasn't something they wanted to leak out. Apparently, it was some kind of epilepsy that caused those episodes. They found a correct medication and she stopped having them altogether."

Was it possible that Elsa got an epileptic episode and accidentally harmed Anna? Did Hans know about it? Maybe Hans helped her to get rid of the body and blackmailed her with the information, but then Elsa got cold feet and killed herself. Or did Hans do something to her? I really needed Hans to start talking, he was the only one who knew the truth, I was sure of it. With all the new information I had gathered, I could only hope to finally squeeze something out of him.
