13th October, Homicide Investigation
"So, we got some interesting material out of your phone. You recognize?" I asked him and gave him some of the papers with printed copies of his messages with Elsa.
Hans only glanced at them briefly, I could see him pale a slightly when he recognized them, but as fast as that came it went, and he schooled his features back to the indifference he had before. "Yes, what of them? There's barely anything in them."
I started reading one of the prints out loud: "Anna is out with friends for the evening. Anna is going to the movies today, they're also having dinner. Anna is spending the weekend in Oslo. Anna is out with friends for 2 hours. Anna is spending the night with friends. Anna is going for a lunch with friends." I put the paper on the table.
"Why are you two tracking Anna's goings like this? Almost all your correspondence is just about where Anna is at the moment, going as far back as January. What does that mean?"
Hans only shrugged, he didn't seem that interested in the subject and didn't seem to note its bizarre nature. "Nothing much. Just for surprises and stuff, we didn't really have need to talk about anything else but Anna with Elsa. We told each other when Anna was staying away for longer periods of time, so we could do things we wanted to surprise her, Anna loved those."
"So did you plan those surprises together with Elsa?"
"Yes, time to time. They weren't a big deal or huge ordeals, just small things." He said it so casually that I wasn't sure if he was lying or not. The correspondence was weird, but maybe I was just making a bigger deal out of it than needed.
"I didn't know you and Elsa were that close." Hans narrowed his eyes.
"We weren't, it was just for Anna."
"How did you feel when Elsa didn't approve your relationship with her sister?"
"I think it was understandable, we did move a little fast. And well, on hindsight Elsa was correct, me and Anna, we weren't meant to be." Hans said that softly, as if it was something he had considered for a long time.
"So, you regret the wedding? Were you relieved when Anna left?"
"Of course not!" Hans spat out. "I wanted nothing bad for her. And if you read my phone messages, you know that I was begging her to come back." This was true, but that also meant nothing. He could have sent those messages just to cover his bases. "And I did try to find her. I went to the train and bus stations to ask if they had seen her, but there wasn't much else I could have done. She took a bus to a gas station at the mountains and after that there was nothing," This was the first time I heard of him actively trying to find Anna, and I had no idea if it was true.
Before I would specify the gas station for a visit, I had one more thing on my mind. "Did you know of Elsa's epileptic seizures?"
A flinch. "No, what do you mean?" A lie.
Was it impossible for this man to speak truth?
A/N This chapter is short and since the last wait was unreasonable long, here's this as a bonus :)
