Author's Note: Happy spring! I hope you've all been doing well these past few months. I've been busy with schoolwork and eating lots of (cheddar cheese) snacks. I felt like updating this short story because I've enjoyed writing it. And I know a few of you are waiting for the next update, so I'm moving forward with this story! I'm going to respond to a few comments before I keep going:
to dgxyy: Thank you for leaving a review! I was inspired by a Total Drama/Squid Game story titled "Total Drama Squid Game" by Penguindude64. That story is very cool. And the idea of Total Drama and Squid Game characters co-existing in the same universe is something I haven't seen too much. So, I decided to give this short story a try.
to Gabriel Siguenza: I'm sorry for keeping you waiting for a while. I've been busy in the real world. I hope you like this new chapter!
Chapter 5 - Mugunghwa-kkochi Pieossseubnida
"FOR THE FIRST GAME YOU'LL ALL BE COMPETING IN A RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT RACE! IF YOU CROSS THE FINISH LINE, THEN YOU'LL BE SAFE! EVERYONE THAT FINISHES THE RACE WILL BE SAFE... EXCEPT FOR THE SLOWEST INDIVIDUAL!"
Everyone (except for Oh Il-nam) exchanged nervous glances.
Chris gulped. No.. No… NO! I'm too old and slow to compete in a race! I think.. I'm done for.
"How will we know when to run and stop?" asked Topher.
Blaineley rolled her eyes. "You're stupid, Topher. The mystery guy literally explained that it's a red light, green light race. We stop when someone says red light. We run when someone says green light. Didn't you play this game when you were a kid?"
"Yeah! I played this game before. I'm not stupid..." nervously laughed Topher. "It's just.. My mind isn't thinking clearly right now. I'm still processing the fact that my amazing brain might get harvested for research. I feel like I want to puke right now."
Geoff nodded in agreement. "Same dude. I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach."
"SORRY BLAINELEY! YOU ARE NOT QUITE RIGHT! YOU INCORRECTLY ANSWERED TOPHER'S QUESTION!"
"Wait-wait.. W-what?" stammered Blaineley. She was a little surprised to learn that she was wrong.
"SEE THAT DOLL OVER THERE?"
Everyone's heads turned to look at the enormous female animatronic-doll on the other side of the confinement.
"THAT'S YOUNG-HEE. SHE WILL SLOWLY SPEAK IN KOREAN. AS SHE'S SPEAKING, YOU CAN MOVE. BUT WHEN SHE STOPS SPEAKING, THEN YOU MUST STOP! IF YOU DON'T STOP IN TIME, THEN YOU MUST HEAD BACK TO THE START AND TRY AGAIN."
"I was mostly right!" pointed out Blaineley. "This is basically red light, green light, but the Korean version. Ugh, whatever."
"This seems like an easy game. I'm not too worried about this," bragged Justin. His body language was a little calm and relaxed now.
"Yeah, but something doesn't feel right about this..." said Topher. "This seems too easy. It can't be that simple, right?"
Justin slowly nodded in agreement. "Hm, yeah."
Bridgette and Geoff's eyes looked at each other. They both sensed danger and uncertainty ahead of them. They hugged each other to release some of the stress from their bodies.
Then, Geoff slowly moved his face closer to Bridgette's face. He kissed her soft lips. The kiss reminded him of all the fun and loving memories they shared with each other at the beach. Their bond was unbreakable. Not even the dangerous high tides from the ocean could break their bond.
"Hey, no matter what happens, make sure you get to that finish line before me," whispered Geoff.
"But-"
"Don't worry about me... I won't be able to live with myself if you die in this stupid Squid Game," admitted Geoff.
A few tears emerged from Bridgette's olive green eyes. The small tears rolled down her cheek.
Lots of thoughts were racing through Chris' mind. This is it.. This is it.. I'm going to finish this race last because everyone is faster and younger than me! I'm going to DIE right here! And my death will be.. Sad. Nobody will remember me. Nobody. Have.. Have I been too cruel, too mean, and too toxic to people? He let out a long sigh.
"IT'S TIME TO BEGIN!"
Young-hee's face turned around (away from the contestants). There was a brief silence. Then, she began to speak for the first time. "Mugunghwa-kkochi Pieossseubnida!" Her face turned around.
Chris' weak legs stumbled, and he fell on the ground. Shit.
A red bouncy ball launched out of Young-hee's mouth. It hit Chris and electrocuted him.
"AHHHHHHHH!" screamed Chris. The pain reminded him of Total Drama memories. He always had a front row seat to watch Total Drama contestants suffer in challenges. But now he was the one suffering. For some reason, he thought of the Revenge of the Island cast. Now I understand how Jo and Scott felt when they got hit by that wrecking ball. Now I understand how Zoey felt when she got attacked by those two giant beavers. Now I understand how Dakota felt when her pink clothes got covered in mud. Wait, w-why am I suddenly feeling bad for people I don't care about? Uh, maybe it's just the electricity messing with my mind.
"What the-" said Geoff. The bouncy ball twist caught him off guard. His face turned to look at Chris getting electrocuted.
Justin panicked, and his body started trembling too much.
Two more red bouncy balls launched out of Young-hee's mouth. Both of them hit and electrocuted Geoff and Justin.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" screamed Geoff and Justin.
Everyone else did their best to remain as still as possible.
Bridgette's face was becoming red like a cherry tomato. She was stressed out and worried about Geoff. She wanted to look at Geoff, but she knew she wasn't allowed to move her head.
Nobody noticed Oh Il-nam's big smile.
Chris, Geoff, and Justin slowly returned to the start.
"I hate this!" yelled Geoff. He was upset with the surprise twist.
Chris felt bad for Geoff. But he wasn't too sure what to say to him, so he chose to remain quiet. Maybe it's best for me not to say anything to Geoff. Usually, I'm the one surprising the Total Drama cast with twists and turns. Geoff probably doesn't want to hear another word from me. He would probably tell me to shut up. And he would probably beat me up and punch me in the face.
The game continued. "Mugunghwa-kkochi Pieossseubnida!"
Everyone remained still.
"Mugunghwa-kkochi Pieossseubnida!"
Everyone remained still.
"Mugunghwa-kkochi Pieossseubnida!"
Everyone remained still.
"Mugunghwa-kkochi-"
Topher finished first. Bridgette finished second.
"Pieossseubnida!"
Everyone remained still (except for Bridgette and Topher).
"Ha! Yes! I survived!" celebrated Topher. "I'm so relieved right now… That wasn't that bad."
Bridgette ignored Topher. She was worried about Geoff. "Cmon! Focus, Geoff!"
"Mugunghwa-kkochi-"
Blaineley finished third. Oh Il-nam finished fourth.
"Pieossseubnida!"
Only Chris, Geoff, and Justin remained now. Their bodies remained still like museum statues. All three of them wanted to survive.
"L..O..L.. I don't think Chris is going to finish," laughed Blaineley.
Geoff and Justin were closer to the finish line. Chris was currently in last place.
There was a heartbroken look in Chris' eyes. This is it for me... I reached the end of the line. I'm a dead man now.. GOODBYE WORLD!
"Mugunghwa-kkochi-"
Suddenly, something new was thrown in the air (as Young-hee was speaking). It hit-
