Chapter 04 Confusing Romance.
Specter Appears!
It's been two months since my and Jentry's first date.
And yes I'm calling it a date now, much to Musashi's and My parents teasing.
Speaking of my parents, Dad and Mom had managed to pull a few strings so the battle wasn't traced back to me or Jentry.
Or worse, trace Ghost's true identity back to me.
But as the days turned into weeks and the mall incident became old news, our lives began to return to normal, or at least, as normal as it could get for a couple of teenagers with secret supernatural abilities.
On another topic, as promised, I started helping Jentry with her Pyrokinesis, training her in my backyard after school.
My parents were okay with it, they were happy that I was helping someone with fire powers similar to my own.
Though oddly Jentry's Gugu was very reluctant at first but after some convincing from Musashi she agreed.
I was a bit suspicious at Gugu's reluctance but I chalked it off to parental concern. After all, it wasn't everyday that her great niece would be trained by a Kamen Rider.
The first few days of Jentry's Training was... Rocky to put it nicely...
Okay fine, it was bad, I mean I couldn't blame her she was learning how to control fire for the first time and she had a knack for burning things she didn't intend to.
Honestly her full control during the previous battle with the Ape demon must've been the adrenaline rushing through her, because in the controlled environment of my backyard, she was more like a toddler playing with matches.
It didn't help that our earlier training sessions always ended up with me covered in soot, much to Musashi's and my parents' amusement.
But eventually Jentry got better, shooting fireballs, lighting objects from the distance, using it to boost her hand-to-hand combat. Her control over her powers was growing steadily, and I couldn't help but feel proud of her progress.
Our school life was getting better as well, though I've noticed Kit has been getting friendly with Jentry lately...
Too friendly for my taste, and Jentry seemed to be getting along with him more than ever before.
I would see her texting him after our Training sessions, the screen lighting up with their conversations and the occasional laughter, I felt a strange twinge in my chest that I couldn't quite place.
Was it jealousy? Maybe it was just me being overly protective of her, I thought to myself. But every time she looked at her phone, my heart sank a little.
Musashi kept telling me I should make a move but I kept telling him we were just friends. At least that's what I kept telling myself.
Even when we're hanging out in our free time she would at most times be on her phone texting Kit.
And It's not like I'm her boyfriend who can't just barge in on her conversations. I'm just her trainer, her friend who's helping her with her powers. That's it.
But every time she looked at her phone with a smile, I couldn't help but wonder what he was saying to her, what she was sharing with him that she wasn't with me.
But I had to focus, I had a bigger problem at hand.
"Holy shit!" I dodged out of the way of a Ganma's swipe, narrowly missing my head. "Can't I just have one morning going to school without trying to fight for my life?!"
I was currently transformed and fighting one low-level Ganma in the forest on my way to school.
It had been like this almost every week since the mall incident two months ago, whether it was morning on a school day or after training with Jentry, Ganma and Demons alike just kept popping up out of nowhere.
"Hah!" I finished off the last Ganma with a Ghost Blazing Slash, the damn thing turning into an Eyecon and shattering.
"Dammit, where do these things keep coming from?" I grumbled pulling out my Eyecon from my Ghost Driver turning back to normal.
As my driver disappeared into embers I put my eyecon away in my jacket and picked up my backpack. "Something tells me Katana's behind this." I muttered to myself before running towards the school.
Unknown P.O.V
Unknown to Miko he was being watched from afar by said someone.
"Hmph, seems he's back in the game," a figure said from the shadows, a smirk playing on her lips. "I wonder if his little girlfriend has learned anything new."
She then frowned. "To think Katana Ganma is back and working with a Mogui of all things."
"I wonder what will you do... little brother," The figure said with a small smile before vanishing into the shadows.
Miko's P.O.V
As I was running to the school I got a call from Jentry saying she and Ed needed help with a Sadako-like restless spirit, they said they were at the back of the school.
"Hah... It's just one problem after another." I grumbled as I entered the school gate.
As I reached the back of the school I heard Jentry having small talk with someone.
And it's not Ed.
"I guess they're just drawn to you.
Personally, I don't blame them." Kit said, winking at her, making Jentry gasp before blushing and laughing nervously.
"Oh. Ha. Uh, thank you?" She said unsurely, holding her backpack closer to her chest.
My eye twitched seeing this as I peeked from the corner of the building. "What the hell is Kit doing here?" I muttered under my breath.
I watched as he picked up a yellow bag of chips with a bee on it. "Hm. Honey butter chips?" He said in surprise.
"My friend Tokki sent me a care package from Seoul." Jentry explained as she took the chips from him and opened the bag. "I know it's a dumb thing to miss, but I..." She trailed off as she gave him a piece.
"Dumb thing to miss?" Kit questioned as accepted the offered chip. "I have dreams about these." He stated as they both sat down next to each other leaning against the wall.
'They're a little too close for my liking...' I thought as I clenched my fists before Kit spoke up again.
"Oh, hey, by the way, are you excited for NCT 127's comeback?" Kit asked Jentry, changing the subject.
I raised an eyebrow at that. 'NCT 127? Isn't that the first fixed and second overall sub-unit of the South Korean boy band NCT?' I thought to myself, trying to keep my cool.
Jentry looked at Kit in surprise. "Wait, you like NCT 127? Since when?"
"Since always." He grinned. "Well, since their Studio Choom Dance!/Studio Choom Dance performance?" They said respectively.
"Same, but nothing beats their..."
"Second album repackage!" They finished in unison, much to my annoyance.
"So you like everything I like!" She said with a smile, "Ah, creepy! Have you been spying on me?" She teased, playfully punching his shoulder.
"Don't you want me to like the same things?" Kit asked with an innocent smile.
Jentry nodded. "Yeah, kinda. But I wanna know
who you are beneath all that."
"Um..." Kit looked uncomfortable at that. "But, uh, what if there is more to me
and you don't like it?" He asked hesitantly.
'The hell does he mean by that?' I thought, my curiosity piqued.
"Believe me, I get how hard it is
to be your real self." Jentry said understandingly.
"But, hey, you know lots of weird stuff about me, and you still like me, right?" She stated before pulling out two chips, "Chip cheers?" She offered with a smile.
Kit accepted the offered chip with a smile. "Chip cheers." They tapped their chips before eating them.
To my shock when Kit glanced at Jentry his eyes glowed white for a split second, like he was...scanning her.
"Uh, you've got a little..." Kit pointed at the crumbs on the lower side of her mouth.
"Huh?"
Kit chuckled before he reached up to wipe the crumbs with his thumb "I got you."
Jentry blushed and smiled appreciatively before they started to lean closer before...
"Ahem!" I cleared my throat standing in front of them with my hands on my hips.
"Am I interrupting something?" I asked with a raised eyebrow as Jentry and Kit jumped apart like they've been caught doing something they shouldn't.
"M-m-miko! We were just uh..." Jentry stuttered, her cheeks a vibrant red as she fumbled with her words. Kit looked equally flustered, his thumb hovering awkwardly near his own mouth before quickly dropping it to his side.
"Talking! We were just talking! Yeah..." Kit stumbled over his words, looking anywhere but at me.
I narrowed my eyes before We heard Ed scream with stuff cluttering somewhere.
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever..." I muttered before walking past them, "Come on Jentry, we better help Ed before that Sadako wannabe eats him or something."
Jentry and Kit looked at each other in confusion before she followed suit, grabbing her bag. "I gotta go, I'll talk to you later" she said, practically bolting after me.
Third P.O.V. Music room
Meanwhile with Michael he had just opened a door to a music room, "Uh, hello?" He called with a smile before it fell to find the room empty and dark with a few bookshelves and a grand piano inside.
"Mister Cohen?" He called for the music teacher as he entered.
"Am I early for tryouts?" He questioned as he looked around the room.
Just then Michael heard a piano key being played repeatedly, He turned his head to the piano, and to his shock he saw a woman with long black hair covering her face sitting in front of the piano playing the same tune over and over.
"Uh... Hello?" He called out tentatively, his eyes fixated on the mysterious figure. The woman paused her playing, and for a moment, the room was eerily silent before her eye was seen.
Michael quietly gasped and after a few beats of silence the woman creepily got up from the piano before standing in front of him slumped forward as he took a step back.
"Uh..." was all Michael uttered out as the woman slowly got closer while he took a step back.
His heart was racing and his mind was trying to make sense of the situation, but all he could manage was to keep his cool demeanor.
"Hello?" He greeted her nervously as she raspily groaned.
And for a second she disappeared...
Before she suddenly appeared in front of his face making him fall on a bunch of chairs with a loud thud.
"Ah!"
He looked around for a makeshift weapon before he saw his rain stick and held it out in defense.
Before the gui could do anything she was tackled by Ed and Miko, sending them behind the drum set.
Miko's P.O.V
Michael watch in shock as the gui stood up from behind the drums as Ed and I hang on her back as she flailed around to get us off,
"Mikey, quick! Get your phone out and film this!" Ed grunted as we struggled to keep the Gui down.
I looked at him in disbelief. "Really Ed?! Still thinking about TikTok views at a time like this?!" I exclaimed over the sound of the Gui's screeches and growling and the clanging of cymbals.
"Aah/Gah!" We both yelped as the Gui managed to throw us aside and me landing back first with a groan with Ed falling head first into a Tuba.
I sat up as Ed had got the Tuba off his head before we glared at the Gui.
"Okay, Bitch you're really asking for it!" I said dramatically, pointing at her.
Just then Jentry entered the music room getting our attention.
"Ed, Miko, let me help you!" She said holding out her hands as if she was going to shoot fire at the Gui, before she noticed Michael in the room as she looked at him in slight surprise.
"Jentry, I told you I got this! You stay here and work on being normal!" Ed shouted, still holding onto the Tuba before throwing it out of the window, breaking it, just as the lights came on.
The Gui saw this before she growled at us and quickly jumped out of the broken window.
"Ugh..." Ed scoffed as he crossed his arms.
I facepalmed before slowly dragging it down on my face. "Why...? I muttered looking at the Jianshi. "Why did you throw the damn Tuba out the window, instead of...I don't know, at the Gui?!" I said in exasperation.
But Ed just rolled his eyes. "Oh relax, I'll go handle her, while you stay here with Jentry and try to be normal." He said before following the Gui out the window.
'I'm pretty sure I threw being a normal kid out the window when I first transformed into a Kamen Rider,' I thought to myself, watching Ed chase after the Gui with a mix of amusement and annoyance.
I sighed before turning to Michael who was helped up by Jentry. "You okay man?" I asked as I approached them, dusting myself off.
Michael nodded with a sheepish smile. "Yeah, I'm okay. Thanks for the... uh, the save."
"No prob." I nodded.
Jentry then noticed the Rain Stick in Michael's hand. "Uh, rain stick's a bold choice for band tryouts."
"Huh, always thought you were more of a flute guy, well at least you won't have competition." I smirked at Michael with a shrug.
Michael laughed nervously as Jentry and I started to clean up the mess.
"Jentry? Um, what's the girl from Scary Movie 3 doing here" He asked as he picked up one of the sheet music stands.
"Well, she's a Nugui." Jentry said as she picked up another sheet music stand. "Gugu says they're like demons who were unheard or ignored when they were alive and are not thrilled about it." She explained.
"At least she's relatable." He said fixing another stand. "And you guys are surprisingly chill."
"About monsters?" Jentry scoffed lightheartedly. "Sure."
and I just shrugged. "Mike, I've been doing this kinda thing for years, of course I'm chill about it." I said fixing up the chairs.
"Because of being Kamen Rider Ghost?" He asked, curiosity evident in his tone.
I nodded "yup." I said popping the 'p'. "Since most monsters I fought could potentially destroy the world one way or another, a nugui isn't that much of a threat to me."
Yup, apparently Michael saw me transform during the mall fiasco, and only him, he gave Jentry a call and confronted me and Jentry the next day at the park the next day.
Truthfully I was scared out of my wits when he admitted he knew, but he promised to keep it a secret, even Jentry convinced me he was trustworthy and I took her word for it.
Jentry looked at the broken window with a wince. "Wheeler's gonna kill us for this window." She muttered.
Michael chuckled at that. "He won't hear it from me." He said
I scoffed at the mention of Wheeler. "Honestly, you'd think a grown-ass man like him has anything better to do than harass a student, so the great fire burned his son's blanket to ashes eight years ago, big whoop, you don't see his husband bitching about it." I ranted as we continued to clean.
Jentry and Michael just chuckled nervously at my ranting before she turned to Michael. "Hey, need accompaniment for tryouts later? Flute and triangle... a classic." She said while holding up a triangle and played it a bit.
Michael turned away rubbing his neck. "Ah, I dunno. Uh, I dunno if I'm gonna do it." He said hesitantly to her surprise.
I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Why not? From what Jentry told me you want to focus on Music more than football." I said as I grabbed my bag.
"Well, a UT scout is coming to practice today and, well... you know?" Michael said, avoiding our gazes.
"But if you get it, won't that mean a lot more football?" Jentry pointed out, raising her eyebrows with me nodding in agreement.
Michael nodded as the three of us leaned back on the Piano.
"Yeah, well, that's how Mom and Dad see it." He said, crossing his arms. "Fast track to NFL. Do that for a few years, and then I don't know." He said with a shrug. "Dad keeps bringing up a car dealership?"
"Something tells me, you don't like or even want the career path your parents are setting out for you." I said sympathetically to his surprise.
Jentry noticed her childhood friend's surprise expression. "Miko's really good at reading people." She said with a small laugh, patting my shoulder.
"Eh, but I'd have to double-check Stella's five-year plan." Michael said, trying to keep his cool.
"Well, have you tried talking to her?" Jentry asked.
"I don't think she'd understand." He said, his eyes dropping to the floor.
"Well, that doesn't mean giving up your music." I said firmly, trying to encourage him with Jentry nodding before she picked up two tambourines.
"What if you were the world's first, uh, musical NFL guy? She suggested before placing the tambourines on her shoulders with a smirk. "Tambourines on your shoulder pads? Eh?"
"Ha! Yeah!" He said chuckling before picking up a concertina. "Or maybe concertinas on my cleats, so when I run I sound like this." He said playing a random tune to our amusement.
"Musical Mike's got a clear shot at the end zone." I said like a sports commentator, which made Michael laugh.
"Will he make it? Will he make it?" Jentry continued to joke, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"And touchdown! Whoo!" We exclaimed in unison as Jentry threw the tambourines up in the air like a victory dance, before all burst out laughing.
After calming down Jentry looked at him with a small encouraging smile. "You know, just because everyone else agrees on a plan for you doesn't mean you have to follow it. You are who you choose to be." She told him gently, holding his arm.
I nodded in agreement. "She's right Michael. Your future, how you live your life, your destiny, It's up to you on how you make it." I said placing a hand on his shoulder. "But it's your call."
Michael smiled at us appreciatively. "Thanks for saying that." He said, bumping my and Jentry's shoulders.
"Well, if it helps, I needed to hear it too." Jentry said with a small chuckle, before leaning on my shoulder in silent comfort.
I blushed a bit before I noticed Michael giving us a knowing look. "What?" I asked defensively.
Before he could speak the school bell rang indicating second period was about to start.
Jentry opened her eyes and looked up to my eyes, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Well, we better get to class." She said, pushing off the piano.
"Um, can I have a word with Miko first?" Michael told Jentry with a slightly nervous smile.
Jentry and I looked at him in surprise before I nodded. "I'll see you in biology class in a bit." I told her as she nodded and left the room.
I turned to Michael with a raised eyebrow. "Okay dude, what did you want to talk about?"
Michael took a deep breath and rubbed the back of his neck, his eyes darting around the room before finally meeting mine. "Look, I don't know how to say this but...do you...uh...do you like Jentry?" He hesitantly asked.
I blushed crimson before laughing nervously. "Whaaaat...? No. Psh. We're just friends."
Michael crossed his arms before giving me a look. "Dude."
I looked at him for a solid minute before I sighed. "Yes, okay, fine, I like Jentry, I like how she laughs, I like how her eyes lit up when we talk about Anime, especially Imposters Inside the Half Moon. I like how she gets flustered when she's embarrassed. I like how brave she is when she wants to be. I like everything about her." I finished as I turned to Michael who was looking at me with wide eyes.
"Damn...you don't just like her, you're head over heels," Michael said, his expression a mix of surprise and amusement.
"Wait a second, why do you even wanna know anyways?" I questioned him with a suspicious look.
He took a step back, holding his hands up in a defensive gesture. "It's just, I noticed how you guys are around each other. And, we've known each other since we were kids, I just don't want her to get hurt or anything." He said with a genuine smile.
I snorted. "Funny, you kinda gave me the impression that you have a crush on her, even though you already have a girlfriend."
Michael's face turned red as a beet. "What? No! It's not like that!" He sputtered.
I gave the same look he gave me earlier, making him sigh.
"Okay, maybe once, but that was before I knew she had feelings for you," Michael mumbled, his gaze flicking to the side.
I scoffed at that last part. "Yeah? Well I don't think those feelings of hers are gonna last long." I said with a sigh.
"What do you mean?" He questioned, his curiosity piqued.
I rubbed the back of my neck. "Well, for the past month and a half she's been getting all buddy buddy with Kit." I said, unable to keep the annoyance out of my voice. "I don't know what's going on between them, but I don't like it."
"And it's not like I can just tell her to stay away from Kit, I'm not her Boyfriend." I muttered to myself as I picked up my bag and started to leave the room.
"Miko, wait!" Michael called out, his voice echoing in the now-desolate hallway as I stormed out of the music room. "Look, if you like her, just tell her!" He exclaimed, catching up to me.
"It's not that simple!" I said, stopping in my tracks and turning to face him. "I can't just blurt it out, especially not with Kit in the picture." I sighed heavily, running a hand through my hair.
Michael nodded thoughtfully. "Look, I know it's complicated, but if you care about her, you need to be honest. Maybe she's just being friendly with Kit, but if you don't tell her how you feel, you might miss your chance."
I looked down at the floor in thought. 'What the hell am I so afraid of?' I asked myself before looking back up at Michael. "I'll think about it." I said with a nod before we both walked to our separate classes.
Soon I entered my biology class.
I looked around the class before i see Jentry was partnered up with Kit much to my dismay. "Great..." I muttered before taking the tray with a frog and walking to the desk behind Jentry and Kit.
'And it seems like I'm the only one without a partner...terrific.' I thought to myself as I sat down at my desk, placing the frog tray in front of me.
"Ew." I heard Jentry mutter in disgust as I turned over my frog on its back and started to cut it open. "Do you think it had a name?" She asked Kit, making him chuckle.
"Would that make it better or worse?" He asked, smiling slightly as he poked at their frog with his dissection tool.
"I don't know." Jentry said in slight disgust.
"Well, I mean, he sacrificed himself for us," He said, making me roll my eyes. "So let's name it Neji."
"Mm-mm." Jentry shook her head. "He's way more of a Sasuke." She retorted with a smirk.
I sweatdrop at the names. 'Great, now they're trying to name it after the two former assholes in Naruto.' I thought to myself before focusing on my own frog.
"Ew! Ugh." Jentry groaned in disgust.
Kit lightly laughed. "It's okay. It's just a dead thing. Organs and meat and bones." He said opening it up with ease.
"Uh, wow. Okay, it's more than just organs and meat and bones." Jentry countered looking at him. "Sasuke was alive. He had qi and he had a soul!"
I mentally facepalm. "Guys, maybe don't personify the frog, okay?" I mumble to myself, trying to ignore their banter and focus on my own task.
Kit sighed at Jentry's words. "Not everything has a soul." He muttered much to Jentry's surprise and my suspicion.
"You don't believe in souls?" Jentry asked in surprise before her face scrunched up in disgust. "Oh, man, what you're doing is so gross. Ugh!" She groaned as Kit pulled out the frog's liver.
'Jeez, she really can't handle this kind of thing can she?' I thought to myself before turning my attention back to my frog.
"I'm not saying I don't believe in them." Kit said with a small frown. "I just don't think Neji had one. Souls are a human thing." He said in slight dismay.
'All life has souls,' I mentally retorted. 'I know that more than anyone, seeing the things I've seen.'
"I think it's more than that." Jentry said, her voice gentle, staring at the frog with a thoughtful expression. "Your soul is the decisions you make, the people you care about. It's who you choose to be, right?"
Kit looked at her in surprise. "Who you choose to be?"
"Yeah. I bet Sasuke had a favorite lily pad and some other frog in his pond he really liked." Jentry said with a smile, trying to lighten the mood. "It doesn't matter he's not human." She stated as I couldn't help but smile at her kindness.
"That was in him, and now it's gone." She said before Kit placed the stomach on a board with designated names for organs and parts.
"Ugh!" Jentry looked squeamish at that. "And so are his insides!" She said in disgust. "And I think my insides are gonna join him on the table. Oh, man." She retched, turning a bit green, much to my concern.
However before I could do anything Kit immediately got her out of her seat. "Okay. Let's get you some air." He said with a gentle smile, placing a comforting hand on her back as they left the classroom.
I stared at the door for a minute before I slumped in my seat. "Now, I know how you feel, Naruto." I said looking at my frog.
Third P.O.V
Outside of the classroom.
Kit and Jentry stepped outside as she calmed down.
"Whoo, thanks. I just needed a minute." She took deep breaths, the fresh air outside the classroom clearing her head.
Soon they both gained an ominous feeling.
Jentry and Kit looked in the corner of the hallway as the sound of dripping water could be here.
Jentry looked around with slightly narrowed eyes while Kit looked in morbid fascination.
The light glitched to show the dripping was from a drinking fountain, making her blink before she sighed in relief.
Jentry turned to look at Kit before they both noticed the Nugui woman from earlier standing beside them and staring right at them groaning as she did.
"Aah!" They both cried in shock as they took a step back to the wall as the Nugui took a step closer.
Jentry glared at the woman ready to fight as she took step forward.
Just before things could escalate Ed rounded a corner and gave the woman a look. "There you are! I told you, don't wander off on your own!" He scolded her like a child.
"Ed, what are you doing?" Jentry asked in bewilderment.
"We're communicating." Ed answered with a smile as the Nugui rasped in agreement.
"Kind of. All right, let's go, Miss Gui.
I have an idea." He gestured for her to follow which she complied.
Before they left Ed turned around and gave Jentry a thumbs up. "Oh, and, uh, keep up the normal, Jentry." he said before walking away with the Nugui.
"Uh..." Jentry uttered out and chuckled with a deadpan expression before she turned to Kit with a smile. "They'll be fine. Right?"
"Mm-mmm." Kit just grunted in uncertainty with a shrug before he tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear making her blush.
She laughed softly and Kit placed a hand on the wall.
As Jentry closed her eyes and leaned up to him Kit's eyes glowed again as he looked at her Qi network for a minute before he closed his eyes and leaned closer.
But unfortunately for him Jentry sighs then clears throat. "Uh, Kit, um, I really want to,but also I still might barf." She said as she groaned as she placed a hand to her mouth.
"Right. Yeah, of course, sorry." Kit said in disappointment, stepping back as Jentry exhaled to calm herself.
"But, uh, what are you doing after school?" She asked, rubbing the back of her neck. "Did you wanna study with me? In the library? We can, um, finish writing this up then." She said, referring to their Biology class.
"Mm-hm." Kit nodded with a small smile before Jentry opened the door to the classroom. She turned to him one last time. "Hey, Kit. Just so you know, I like the guy you choose to be." She said with a smirk before she went inside, closing the door.
Once the door was closed Kit's smile turned into a frown.
Once Jentry entered inside she began to write up their Biology assignment but then she noticed Miko looking blankly at his frog.
"Miko?"
Miko's P.O.V
Everything.
I heard Everything.
Thank you Spiritual powers for giving me heightened hearing.
And from the sounds of it they were gonna kiss.
Or at least tried if Jentry wasn't worried she might barf.
Fuck me sideways, I can't believe love is this complicated.
"Miko?"
My inner monologue was broken when I heard my name being called. I snapped out of my thoughts to find Jentry looking at me with a concerned expression. "You okay?" She asked, setting her pencil down.
"Huh? Uh, yeah yeah." I nodded, putting my little dilemma on the back burner for now. "I just...have a lot on my mind." I mumbled as I finished dissecting Naruto the frog before writing down the notes.
"Do you wanna...talk about it?" She offered, her voice gentle and understanding.
However before I could say anything the lunch bell rang.
I quickly finished all my notes before placing them on the teachers desk.
"Hey."
I turned to see Jentry her own notes on the desk, a hint of concern in her eyes. "You sure you're okay?" She asked, her voice echoing slightly in the almost empty classroom.
I smiled as best as I could, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, I'm fine. I promise."
Jentry's gaze lingered on me for a moment before she nodded and picked up her bag. "Well, if you ever need to talk, you know I'm here." She said with a warm smile.
I nodded with a smile, before I stared at her. "Hmm..."
Jentry raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
I shrugged. "Nothing, just realizing the pony tail suits you, and the purple eyeshadow makes your eyes pop." I said casually trying to get my mind off the Kit situation.
Her cheeks flushed pink as she looked away slightly. "Thanks."
"Well, I gotta go." I winked, picking up my bag. "Lunch awaits."
Jentry chuckled, shaking her head. "Alright, see you there."
Soon I reached the cafeteria and entered.
I inhaled taking in the scent of the cafeteria, a mix of hot tray food and teenage angst.
And Ed casually talking with the Nugui at a table.
I did a double take at that as I stared at the scene in bewilderment.
"The hell?" I muttered, as Ed dumped alphabet cereal on the table.
"Okay, I won't eat it this time." The Jiangshi muttered to her. "So to recap, when you were alive, you were..." The Nugui placed a few letters on the table.
"Huh? A music teacher?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and she nodded with a grunt before she started lettering again.
"It was a real... What? That's not how you spell it!" Ed's voice grew more exasperated as he stared down at the letters arranged by the Nugui.
I shook my head before seeing Michael enter the cafeteria.
My jaw clenched to see Kit at the counter as well, but I kept my composure.
I rolled my eyes as the Lunch Lady was forcing Michael to take the Spaghetti and Meatballs for 'Practice day'.
"But you already chose spaghetti and meatballs." She told Michael with an annoyed frown.
"Yeah, but I didn't choose it. You just gave it to me." Michael retorted, his voice strained.
"You did choose it. You've chosen it every practice day for years. You can't just change horses mid-stream! That's just how it is." She said like a strict coach.
"You can't just go back in time and have Frito pie when you already chose spaghetti and meatballs! I gave you spaghetti and meatballs because that's who you are! You are the guy who always has spaghetti and meatballs! That was your choice! Own it!" She exclaimed pointing at him before pointing at Kit much to his shock and a little of my amusement. "And what do you want, new kid?"
"I, um... I thought I knew, but now I'm not sure." He said unsure before the lunch lady grunted and handed him a tray with a bowl of pasta and a juice box. "Hey!"
"If you don't choose, someone else chooses for you. Okay?" She advised sternly. "You need to take charge of your destiny. You are the decisions you make, the people you care about!" She said, before Kit, Michael and I had a look of realization.
"You are who you choose to be." We unintentionally said in unison.
"What? Speak up!" The lunch lady bellowed, snapping us out of our silent contemplation.
Michael and Kit gasped before they looked at each other.
"Sorry, I need to go find..."
"Hey, I gotta go..."
"Uh, you too?"
"Uh, sure. Yeah. Okay."
"Okay, see ya later, man."
"Mm. Yeah."
They both Jumbled over their words before going in opposite directions and leaving the cafeteria.
I immediately left the cafeteria on my way to the Library running in the hallway, however I stopped sensing something was amiss.
I looked at my surroundings, on guard as the lights ominously flickered.
I moved to the left just in time to narrowly avoid a swipe from...
"A Ganma Komando?" I said in surprise to see a basic grunt of The Ganma.
The Ganma Komando had a full black body with the lack of a face, a black chest armor that had a silver ribcage pattern on it, a belt with a single large glaring red eye for a buckle, silver boots and gloves, and wearing black-colored hoodie, and a silver short katana for a weapon.
I smirked as my Ghost Driver appeared on my waist. "Aw, are you lost, little guy?" I taunted, pulling out my Eyecon from my hoodie pocket.
Suddenly the shadows warped before three more Ganma Komandos appeared.
"Well, that's new..." I muttered in surprise before I pulled the lever of the driver, opening it up and putting my Eyecon inside.
"Henshin!" I shouted pushing in the lever as I transformed while I jumped over one that tried to stab me.
"KAIGAN! ORE! LET'S GO! KAKUGO! GO GO GO! GHOST! GO! GO! GO! GO!"
I landed behind them as I pull down my hood and turned around to face them, with a snap of my fingers the Gun Gan Sword appeared in my hand.
"Now... let's burn it up!" I exclaimed before charging at them, my heart racing with excitement.
The hallway echoed with the clang of swords as the battle commenced. The Ganma were swift, but their movements were predictable.
I danced around them, using my agility to dodge their attacks while delivering swift strikes with the Gun Gan Sword.
Each hit sent a burst of sparks, lighting up the dull hallway with a vibrant flash of color.
The scent of burning rubber filled the air as I pushed the attack, the flames on my weapon leaving a trail of heat behind me.
"Hmm, seems like these guys are a lot more durable than the normal ones." I murmured to myself, as one of the Ganma blocked my attack with surprising strength.
One manages to slash me in the chest, sending sparks flying and causing me to stumble back.
"Okay. I think it's time I finished this." I said as I scanned the Energy Eye Crest on the Gan Gun Saber's hilt with my Eyecon.
"DAI KAIGAN!" the Driver called out as the mystic looking eye seal appeared behind Ghost. "OMEGA BREAK!"
The Gan Gun Saber's blade ignited with crimson flames.
"Ghost... BLAZING SLASH!" I shouted as I released a blazing arc of flaming energy that sliced through all the Komandos, before they were reduced to ash and faded away.
I breathed a sigh of relief as It was over, I opened the driver before pulling out my Eyecon.
"Oyasumi~" The driver said as it disappeared into crimson embers.
"First I get attacked almost every morning while heading to school." I muttered putting my Eyecon back in my hoodie pocket. "But now in school? When I find Katana Ganma, he is going to wish I send him back to Diyu when I'm through with him." I promised myself as I looked around my surroundings.
"Good, now witnesses, no damage to school property whatsoever," I whispered to myself, ensuring no one was around before sprinting down the hallway.
'Jentry said she was going to meet Kit at the Library.' I thought to myself as I made my way there. 'I need to get there before Kit does...'
'And tell Jentry how I feel.'
Once there I slowed down and calmly walked inside.
I looked around the library, my eyes scanning the rows of books and the clusters of students studying.
I soon found her.
But she was with Kit, sitting by a window.
And kissing.
I immediately hid behind a bookshelf, my heart sinking. My fists clenched, I tried to swallow the lump in my throat.
'Damn it...' I thought as I watched them from the shadows of the bookshelf.
I soon smelled smoke before I noticed my hands were smoking.
I shook my hands out, the smoke dissipating, and took a deep breath. I had to calm down, I can't lose control here, not now, so I immediately left the library.
Third P.O.V
Unfortunately after Miko left the library he didn't see what happened next.
As Jentry and Kit continued to kiss, her Qi was unknowingly being absorbed by him, when he opened his eyes they widened in shock before he abruptly broke the kiss.
"No, I'm sorry! I can't do this." He said in panic turning his back to her.
"I'm so sorry. Did I burn you?" Jentry asked in confusion and concern, looking at her hands.
"No. No, you didn't, but..." Kit trailed off, turning to her.
"But you're afraid I will?" She assumed her voice filled with hurt, as she looked away tearing up.
She lightly gasped a breath. "I'm so sorry." She said looking anywhere but him. "I... I shouldn't have kissed you. This was a mistake."
"No Jentry." He sighed take a small step forward. "Please let me explain."
"You don't need to. I get it." Jentry said, her voice shaky. "I'll see you around, Kit." She said before leaving the library.
Kit tried to stop her but he just sighed in guilt and defeat.
Miko's P.O.V
Why?
That's what was going through my head after I ran out of the library, now I was just walking aimlessly in the halls.
Love sucks.
That was another thing going through my head as I wiped the tear going down my cheek. I couldn't believe what I had just seen. Jentry and Kit, together.
'After everything that happened in the last few months...Just, just what am I to her...' I thought to myself as I leaned against the wall.
"Miko?"
The sound of Michael's voice startled me out of my thoughts. I quickly wiped my face, not wanting to be caught in such a vulnerable state.
"H-hey man. What's up?" I grinned awkwardly, hoping he hadn't noticed my earlier distress.
He gave me a look of sympathy. "That bad, huh?"
I sighed before I nodded and slidded down to the floor. "Love fuckin' sucks."
Michael gave me a sad smile before he sat next to me. "Want to talk about it?" He offered.
"I saw them kissing in the Library..." I whispered to Michael as we sat there in the deserted hallway. "I thought... I don't know what I thought. Maybe if I had just told her how I felt..."
"Well, at least you're not the only one having a heartbreak." He said. "I broke up with Stella."
I looked at him in surprise before giving him a pat on the shoulder. "She didn't take you wanting to be in a marching band well, did she?"
He sighed before nodding. "She thought I loved football, when she asked why I didn't say anything I told her I didn't want to disappoint her. She thought we were always on the same page on our future, but the plans were always someone else's, so we broke up."
"That's rough dude." I offered a sympathetic pat on Michael's back. "But hey, you know what they say, when one door closes..."
"Another one opens up and hits you in the face?" He quipped with a chuckle.
I couldn't help but laugh a little. "Yeah, something like that."
"So are you still going to join the band club?" I asked but to my surprise he shook his head. "Nah, I'm stay on the football team and see where it goes."
"Are you sure?" I asked Michael, my voice filled with genuine concern. "You don't have to stick with something just because it's expected of you."
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure."
I nodded before the bell rang signalling the end of lunch. "Well I better get to my class." I said getting up.
Michael nodded getting up himself. "And I gotta get to Football practice, the UT Scout is gonna be there and I don't wanna miss it." He said.
I nodded before we went our separate ways.
Unfortunately, I lied about going to class, instead, I was on the school rooftop, moping like a pathetic sap.
That's when I felt a presence behind me.
"Where the hell have you been, Musashi?" Miko asked his Ghost partner, his eyes still misty from earlier.
"I...I saw what happened. I'm sorry Miko." He said with a solemn tone. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I want to burn everything." The young Rider replied, his voice laced with bitterness as he stared off into the distance, the setting sun casting a warm glow on the town of Riverfork.
Musashi sighed at this, he knew the only way to calm him down was to vent. "I spotted a couple of demons in the woods nearby. Do you want to blow off some steam?"
Miko eyed him over his shoulder, before he nodded with a determined look. "Fine, let's get this over with."
Third P.O.V
Soon they were in the woods, with Miko standing on a tree branch, hiding in the shadows while Musashi was floating beside him.
"Hn." Was all he said as he observed the five low-level demons that had gathered.
"You're not going to transform?" Musashi questioned with a hint of surprise in his voice.
"No. I'm not in the mood." Miko replied coldly, his eyes narrowing at the demons. "But I am going to make them regret crossing my path today." He jumped off the branch, landing gracefully on the ground.
The demons, caught off guard by Miko's sudden appearance, turned to face him with a collective snarl. Their eyes glowed with malevolent intent, and their twisted forms seemed to absorb the fading light of the setting sun.
One of them, a red Oni charged with it fist raised, aiming for Miko's head.
"Miko!" Musashi exclaimed in concern as the demon's fist swung towards the teenager.
A resounding crack echoed through the woods as the Oni threw the first punch, dust and dirt flying into the air.
When the dust cleared, the Oni's eyes widened in shock to see its fist was caught in Miko's hand.
Miko stared the the fist with a stoic expression, unimpressed. "Is that all you got?"
The Oni struggled to get its fist out of Miko's grip, snarling and flexing its muscles, but to no avail. Miko's grip was like iron, unyielding and unforgiving.
"My turn..." Miko whispered gripping harder on its fist
The Oni then roared in pain as its fist burst into crimson flames before said flames spread to the rest of its body.
It was immediately reduced to ashes, the other four demons took a step back in fear.
A small sadistic smirk grew on Miko's face, as he turned to face the remaining demons, his eyes flickering with the same flames that had consumed the Oni.
Miko charged at one with a fire sword before slicing it in half, his blade moving so fast it was a crimson streak.
The other three demons looked at each other before deciding to flee, but they weren't fast enough.
Miko's eyes narrowed, and with a flick of his wrist, he sent a large fire blast at them, engulfing them in a fiery explosion that lit up the setting sky.
Their screams pierced the quiet woods before they were silenced into a gentle wisp of smoke that dissipated into the air.
"Hm, pathetic." Miko muttered to himself, watching the last demon vanish into thin air.
Musashi gulped, 'Ohh, he is definitely pissed...' he thought as he hovered near the tree, having witnessed the brutal display of power.
Miko's P.O.V
After the demons were taken care of I heard a rustling in the leaves, I looked behind me to see nobody there.
I looked around the quiet woods, the sound of the distant school bell echoing through the trees. "Let's go," I told Musashi, turning away from the ashes of the defeated demons.
However just then a black and blue blur charged from my right and I narrowly dodged the attack.
I skidded back as I looked up to see who attacked me, my eyes widened in shock to see who it was.
Standing in front of me is a feminine figure clad in armor similar to my own as Kamen Rider Ghost, but blue replacing the orange, with a more fierce visage to the helmet and sporting two horns rather than one, the bone shaped lines instead replaced with heart monitor lines.
"Specter?" I said in disbelief as I recognized the blue Kamen Rider.
"Hey Miko, I... see you've been busy." She said as she sheathed her katana, her voice filled with a hint of amusement.
"You sure took a while on your mission." I said, my voice flat as I looked at her. "Two months and no contact."
Specter took a step closer, and I could tell her eyes were filled with curiosity and concern despite her helmet. "Is everything okay? You seem different, more... intense."
"I don't want to talk about it..." I said, my voice low and my eyes on the ground.
She frowned under her helmet before she pulled the lever of her Ghost Driver and took out her eyecon, this one black in color with a blue image on top.
"Oyasumi~" Her Driver said as she changed back to normal.
Specter, out of the armor, was a seventeen year old young girl with an athletic figure, long raven hair with blue streaks in a ponytail, green eyes, and a look of genuine concern on her face.
She was wearing a black biker jacket with blue lightning accents over a simple white tank top and blue jeans, and steel toed boots.
This was my sister Miaka Uzumaki.
She pulled me into a hug, and despite my initial resistance, I couldn't help but return the embrace, feeling a bit of comfort in her arms.
"Bro, you can tell me anything." Miaka whispered, holding me tightly. "You know that."
I nodded. "I know, but this is something I have to figure out on my own."
She sighed but nodded, releasing me from the embrace. "Alright, but if you need to talk, I'm here."
She then gave Musashi a nod of acknowledgement. "And how about you, Musashi? How have you been holding up with my brother?"
"Welcome home lady Miaka. Miko and I are doing well. Though we've had our share of battles." Musashi said with a small chuckle.
Miaka smiled slightly at Musashi's attempt at lightening the mood. "Thanks, I can see that."
I smiled at them. "Come on you two, let's go home."
The walk home was silent, but not uncomfortable.
At the Uzumaki residence.
"My baby girl!"
I sweatdropped as Dad pulled Miaka into a big hug. "My princess is finally home!" He said while crocodile tears streamed down his face.
"Dad...choking...not...breathing..." Miaka wheezed out between Dad's tight embrace, her arms flailing around trying to break free.
I snorted at the sight, before I looked away whistling innocently as she glared at me.
Mom chuckled in amusement. "Okay, okay, Dear, put our daughter down, I think she's starting to turn blue." She stepped closer to us, wiping her hands on her apron.
Dad released Miaka, and she took a deep breath. "Thanks, Mom," she said, smiling at our mother.
"Welcome back, sweetie." Mom greeted hugging her tightly. "We've missed you so much!"
Miaka laughed. "It's only been three months, Mom."
"Well, you didn't exactly stay in contact, of course mom and dad had the right to worry," I said teasingly.
Miaka rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I know." She replied, a hint of a smile playing on her lips.
"So where's the rest of your team?" I asked Miaka as we took our seats at the dinner table.
She was about to answer but stopped as mom placed a pot of beef stew on the table. "We can talk about that later, for now it's time for dinner." She said with a warm smile.
As we sat down, the aroma of the stew filled the room, making my stomach rumble. It had been a long day, and the comforting scent of home-cooked food was just what I needed.
Mom looked at me expectantly. "So, Miko, how was school today?"
I shrugged and forced a smile, hoping they wouldn't notice anything. "Eh, just the usual. You know, homework, teachers, Vice Principal Wheeler constantly breathing down my neck."
Miaka snickered, "Ah, so the usual then." She glanced at me knowingly. "But, I'm sure you had some kind of adventure today, right?"
"Eh, just the usual Ganma trouble," I said with a casual shrug, trying to play it cool.
We continued to eat while having small talk here and there, the occasional laugh filling the room.
After dinner, I was in my room, lying down on my bed as I was on my phone looking at pictures with me and Jentry.
"Damn it," I murmured, staring at the screen of my phone, the glow of the photos fading with my hope. The picture of Jentry smiling at the camera with her arm around my shoulders felt like a distant memory, a tease of a happiness I might never truly experience again. I threw my phone aside and leaned back into my pillow.
My phone then rang, the screen lighting up with Jentry's name.
I stared at it for a moment, contemplating if I should answer. But I knew I had to talk to her.
"Hey," I said into the phone, trying to keep my voice steady.
I heard a sob. "Miko..."
My heart stopped. "Jentry, what's wrong?" I sat up, all thoughts of my own pain forgotten in an instant.
"C-can we talk...?" She whispered. "I'm at the park."
"I'll be right there," I said, not bothering to ask any more questions. I jumped out of bed and ran out of my bedroom, calling back to my parents, and Miaka "I'm going out for a bit!"
The park was a few blocks away, and the cool evening air was a welcome relief from the tension in the house. I found Jentry sitting on a swing, she looked upset.
"Hey," I said softly, approaching Jentry. Her eyes were red, and she had clearly been crying.
"Hi," she sniffled, looking up at me with a sad smile.
I sat on the other swing, the cold metal sending a shiver down my spine. "What's wrong?"
Jentry took a deep breath. "It's about Kit," she began, her voice shaky. "We... We kissed today."
My heart felt like it was in a vice, but I forced myself to listen. "Okay, and?"
"I don't know, I thought he liked me but..." Jentry paused, her voice trembling. "But he suddenly broke the kiss and then he said he couldn't do this, I think he's afraid I would burn him." She looked down at her hands, the swing gently moving back and forth in the quiet park.
I mentally sighed, I knew she really needed a friend right now. "Look, Jentry, if he's scared of getting burned, then that's his problem, not yours." I said, trying to sound more reassuring than I felt.
Jentry looked at me with a mix of hope and doubt. "But what if he's right? What if I'm too dangerous to be with anyone?"
'Should I...'I mentally trailed off, unsure if I should tell her about my feelings, but If I continue to hesitate, I may never get another chance.
And so I made my decision, whether it is a stupid one or a good one is something I'll have to live with. "Jentry," I started, my voice steady. "Maybe, you just haven't found the right one yet."
Her eyes met mine with a question. "What do you mean?"
I held her hand, giving her a smile. "The one you should be with is someone who accepts all of you, powers and all."
I held both her hands as I lit them in crimson flames, not to burn but to warm and comfort. "Like I do."
Jentry's eyes widened, and she stared at our hands, the flames dancing between us. She didn't pull away, which was a good sign.
I held her cheek with one flaming hand, looking into her eyes as I leaned closer.
My thumb brushed her lips as we slowly inched closer, the warmth from the flames contrasting with the cool night air.
"Miko..." Jentry's voice was a whisper, her eyes wide with surprise and confusion.
"I know this isn't the best time or place," I murmured, my heart racing as I leaned in even closer. "But I can't keep this in anymore."
Her eyes searched mine, and I could see the swirl of emotions playing out in her gaze. Surprise, confusion, but also... hope?
"Miko," she breathed, but before she could say anything more, I closed the gap between us.
Our lips met in a passionate kiss.
