Different Perspectives Chapter 28
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
Taliesin Georges, 17, District 10 Male Tribute in the 28th Hunger Games
"Rhiannon, wait" I yelled to my District Partner. There's just four of us left, I thought: myself, Rhiannon, Shine of District 1 and a boy from District 8, Tyger. Tomato, our ally, died on Day 6, killed by the girl from District 2. Goose didn't stand a chance against the Mutts. Brindle and Boulder didn't make it past Day 3. Dad had been in the Games himself. I remembered hearing how my father won his Games while growing up; he was in an Alliance with his District Partner as well as the Tributes from Districts 11 and 12. The Alliance lasted until the final day, when the girl from 1 killed the girl from 11. Angry at the death of his ally, my dad's ally, the boy from 12, killed the girl from 1, before being struck in the heart by an arrow fired by the girl from 2. It was her last arrow too, and as my father explained, in the early years of the Games, supplies were limited. It only took dad an hour to kill the girl from 2. The three Victors before him, Edgar Parlour, Virgil Barde and Ginny Canova, have had children who were Reaped, but lost their lives in the Games; Edgar's youngest daughter, Treasure, died in the First Quarter Quell. Virgil's son, Tarpaulin, was killed in the Bloodbath of last year's Games. For an Arena based on a sewing box, the District 8 Tributes didn't make it past the Bloodbath. That was ironic. Ginny's daughter, Fern, died in the 25th Hunger Games, a bar mace to the throat. Of course, the children of Victors would be Reaped. There was a lot more pressure on me this time around, as if I win, I'll be the first Second-Generation Victor of the Hunger Games.
Standing on my podium prior to the Games, I could see to my right, Silkie of District 8, with Ennie of District 6 to my left. Rhiannon must be on the other side of the horn. I spot Brindle and Amphitrite on my side of the horn as well. Tomato is nearby as well. Apart from Amphitrite, there are two other Careers as well: Glisten and Blade. The boy from 3, Cackle, looked tense as the countdown gradually went on. As the gong rang, I leapt off my podium, grabbing whatever I could, a small backpack. I spot Rhiannon grabbing a bag and a knife, while Tomato and Goose picked up a small bag. As I fled, I saw Io, the girl from 2, stab the girl from 7, Twig, in the back. On the ground, in a pool of blood, lay the District 9 male, Monty. Next to him lay Kaylene, the District 5 girl. As I ran, I saw Amphitrite throw a trident towards me. I ducked and fled. In the background I heard Amphitrite curse before running to join my allies.
Watching the death Recap, I saw the girl from 3, Elesia, and the boy from 4, Surf, was amongst the Bloodbath deaths. "So that's Glisten and Shine from District 1, Io and Blade from District 2, Cackle from District 3, Amphitrite from District 4, Neo from District 5, Telstar and Ennie from District 6, Moises from District 7, Tyger and Silkie from 8, Honey from District 9 and Brindle and Boulder from District 12. That's the Tributes left apart from us both and District 11" I thought to myself.
"Rhiannon!" I yelled as Shine stabbed my District Partner to death. With only an axe, which I managed to retrieve from the body of Moises, in my hands, as my weapon, I know it's down to the final two. Shine, a Career Tribute from District 1, and me, the son of a Victor and from District 10. With the axe, I waited until Shine rushed towards me; the next thing I saw was red, as Shine received a gash on his left side. As Shine crumpled in pain, I picked up Rhiannon's knife before slitting the boy from One's throat. No sooner than I stood back up did the trumpets rang out. I've done it! I'm the first Second-Generation Victor. "Flora, Claire, Harold, your big brother is coming home" I turned to the cameras.
"Dad! Did you see that?" I chirped as I was reunited with my father as I returned to 10 following the Victors Interview. Watching the entire Games soon after participating in it myself was a strange experience, especially as a week ago Shine, Tyger and Rhiannon was alive.
Well, that's a different perspective: a Victor recounting his experiences of the Hunger Games from his POV. Taliesin, and his siblings, were named after Tributes from his father's own Games. My Headcanon is that it's rare for Victors' Children to follow their parents. I'm starting prep work on future chapters of Different Perspectives, though I haven't thought about POVs yet; I'm thinking about doing Chapter 50 from the POV of the Districts, a nice call-back to Chapter 3. Once the next chapter is uploaded, I will be taking a break as I focus on Prep Work on 75 Years, mainly as I might get a job in the near future.
