Peter woke up groggily, to hear the sound of someone clacking away at a keyboard close by. He kept his eyes shut tight, trying to remember what happened. His memories slowly came back to him as he realised what had happened: the mission that was going so well; miles showing up and then everything going down hill. Okoye coming, telling him not to sleep, him sleeping anyway.

Peter slowly blinked his eyes open, and turned his head to see Shuri, Queen of Wakanda, typing into a computer database.

'Hey you.' Peter mumbled groggily, attracting her attention. She spun around with a smile on her face:

'Peter! You're awake!' she cried out cheerfully, rushing over to help him sit up. Peter glanced down, finding that he was in a hospital gown and groaned:

'A bit extra don't you think?' he questioned quizically. Shuri's face shifted into unease and reprimand:

'Not at all: you were at death's door, how did that happen?! The Amazing Spiderman beat by a couple of low-life criminals?!'

'Miles.' Peter gave as an explanation, having figured from Okoye that that would explain enough. Shuri groaned:

'What did he do?'

'Develop a hero complex and also develop a complex for not at all realising when he is about to be shot, stabbed or tased.'

Shuri made a face: 'Yeah sorry, he has always been like that, but ever since he got his powers, he's convinced he should become a hero.'

'Ugh, I would never.' Peter remarked, gaining a quizzical look from Shuri. She, however, elected to not answer to that comment and instead checked the monitors:

'You're good to go, you're all fixed up.' she stated, unplugging the IV in his arm. He smiled at her:

'Thanks, enjoyed fixing broken white boys?'

'I would have, had you not been about to die.'

'It wasn't that bad.'

'You flat lined twice.'

'As I said: not that bad.'

'I see why you caused Tony to get gray hairs so early.'

Peter smiled wryly: 'Yeah, not gonna argue on that.' he muttered, swinging his legs over the side of the bed he had been asleep on. Shuri gave him a comforting smile and threw him a white shirt and some sweatpants, then turned away so he could change.

When Peter was finished, he hopped off of the bed and walked over to the computer on which she was furiously typing. 'Whatcha doing?' he inquired.

'Nothing much: just hacked your suit so that now if you ever die, I'll be informed.'

'You know I have unhacked my suit multiple times right?'

'Not when I coded it. And besides: I know it was Mr Leeds who did it, and you're not going to ask his help.' she added smugly.

'Yeah, you're right about that.' Peter commented, staring off into the distance.

'You okay?'

'Yeah, I mean, the wounds are all healed.'

'You know that's not what I meant, Peter. Your former bestfriend didn't get blipped, is now 5 years older than you, so is your former girlfriend, and they got married ages ago.'

'I was aware of that.' Peter responded, his mouth forming a thin line.

'So are you okay?'

'Not really.' he chuckled, 'I mean, I had thought they would be blipped as well, not, I mean: I hadn't expected this.' he answered vaguely, waving his arms around. 'I wish I could go back in time, do better, change stuff so that none of this would have happened.' he admitted softly, plopping down on a nearby coach.

Shuri sighed and sat next to him: 'Maybe, just maybe, this is how the world aught to be, Pete.' she offered.

He scoffed: 'Sure: Tony is supposed to be dead. May is supposed to be gone. Ned and MJ are supposed to be married. I'm supposed to be the leader of the Avengers. I'm supposed to act like everything's fine when it's not. Are you claiming T'Challa is supposed to be dead?!'

Shuri's eyes watered slgihtly and Peter looked crestfallen: 'I'm sorry,... didn't mean it like that, Shuri.'

'I know.' she whispered back, 'That's not what I meant either. I mean: it's happened now, we might as well make the best of it.'

Peter scoffed: 'I guess.'

It had been two whole weeks since the blip. Two weeks since Peter's life had turned upside down. Tony had died, May followed soon after. He was homeless and had nowhere to go. The only light spot in the darkness was that Morgan had told him that Tony had called him his son, and that by extent he was Morgan's older brother. He had received EDITH, and was now the secondary guardian to dear little Morgan Stark. A ray of sunshine in all the darkness.

The current Avengers had met up, Clint announced his retirement and they had lapsed into silence, until Nat spoke up:

'We aught to have a new team leader.'

The others nodded in acknowledgment, Peter already suspected it would be Nat who would become the new leader of the Avengers.

'Let's take an anonomous poll. Put the name of whom you want to be the leader, into the hat.' Nat had instructed them.

Peter wrote down: "Natasha Romanoff " and put it in the hat. Next was Sam. Then Bucky, Thor, Stephen, Clint (he still had voting rights) and Natasha herself.

After she had put a name in the hat, she started pulling them out:

'One for Natasha Romanoff,' she stated, putting Peter's piece of paper to the side.

'One for Peter Parker.' she said, putting Sam's piece to the side. Peter raised an eyebrow: had Sam lost a bet.

'Two for Peter Parker.'

'Three fro Peter Parker.'

'Four,... Five and six for Peter Parker.' Natasha quickly counted, leaving the young man speecheless. They all turned to him, he looked up:

'Why?' was all he could ask.

Nat smiled: 'Because you are a hero. You care for the big stuff and the little stuff. You have Tony's genius; Steve's resilience; a will to do good no matter what like me; will-power like Bucky; power and strenght like Thor, you think things through like Stephen, and like Clint you're a tad bit of an idiotic idiot.'

'That's double.' Clint had grumbled. Nat ignored him.

'You have leadership skills which none of us can deny. Besides, we didn't even discuss this beforehand: which meanst everyone saw it. So will you be the new team leader?'

Peter thought for a second, then smiled: 'Hey, who am I to disagree with the Black Widow, I'm in.'

'Well, guess we can add a sense of self-preservation to the list.' Clint added with a smile. Peter chuckled. But on the inside, he was dying. He shouldn't be here. He shouldn't be the leader. That should be Steve, or Tony. But neither of them were around, and they never again would be.

'Helloooo! Earth to Peter!' a voice cried. Peter looked up:

'Oh sorry?' he asked. Shuri frowned at him:

'You zoned out, you okay?'

'Yeah, I'm good.'

'Mhh, your expression begs to differ.'

'Ugh, why are you like this?'

'Someone's gotta point it out, why not me?!'

'Uh,... because I kindly ask you not to?'

'Nah, Imma Queen, I don't need to listen to lowly peasants like you.'

'The conceit!' Peter cried out, a mock gasp escaping his lips as Shuri laughed heartily, then turned serious:

'You're becoming less fun, you know that right?'

'Huh?'

'You're eating yourself up from the inside, Pete. Anyone with half a brain can see that.' she pointed out, 'You have a lot on your shoulders, I get it man, but you gotta have some fun as well.' she told him.

'I have fun!' he scoffed.

'Sure, when was the last time you tinkered in the lab?'

'Uh...'

'Exactly, but not to worry, Okoye and I have come up with a solution.' Shuri declared proudly.

Peter looked at her suspiciously: 'Why do I feel like I should be running for my life right now?'

Shuri chuckled: 'Ehh, it's not that bad, we're just giving you a sidekick.'

'WHAT?!' Peter shrieked, 'SHURI NO!'

'Shuri yes!' she cried happily as he angrily started fidgeting with his shirt. She smiled: 'Come on, Peter! You need a distraction, that may give you one or two heartattacks, and we need to get rid of the heartattack inducing child.'

Peter groaned into his hand: 'Please tell me you are not suggesting...'

'Yep!'

'Noooooo.' he groaned as Shuri smiled wickedly:

'Please Peter? Just for two weeks. Try for two weeks, and if you hate it, you can send him back again.'

'You will be the death of me.'

'Oh no, Miles will be the death of you, I'll just be laughing from the sidelines.'

'You're evil.'

'So you're doing this?'

'Two weeks. Two weeks only and then I'm shipping him back here.'

'Okay, if you say so!'

'I'm serious, Shuri.'

'And I'm serious in saying that he'll grow on you! You'll love the kid, kinda reminds me of you before the blip.'

'Oh, so we're all doomed.' Peter replied dramatically.

'You were fun before the blip.'

'If you say so.'

'I know so.'

'Two weeks only, then you get him back.'

'Mhhhmmm, you can leave with him right now, he's packed, though he doesn't know what's going on, I'll leave the pleasure of telling him that to you.'

'You monster.' Peter groaned, standing up from the coach and offering her his hand. She took it and stood up:

'Call me every night and complain to your heart's content, It'll be a nice break in my schedule as queen.'

'As you wish, your highness.' he mocked her, bowing deeply. Shuri laughed and curtsied back as Peter walked out of the lab, towards the plane he knew was waiting for him:

'Have a fun two weeks of hell!' she cried after him jovially, he stuck out his tongue and she grinned, watching him dissappear behind a corner. Her smile immediately dropped.

From the shadows, Okoye emerged: 'I was almost afraid he might decline.' the Dora Milaje noted softly. Shuri nodded her head:

'It looked like that for a bit, didn't it.' she sighed: 'You really think this'll help Peter?'

Okoye smiled and nodded: 'Yes, my queen, I am fairly certain that it will. Just with Tony Stark. He was a real stickler before Peter showed up. Peter just needs the same thing in his life: a tiny little annoying teenager with powers who will give him an average of 3 heart attacks in a day.'

Shuri smiled ruefully: 'I hope you're right. Are two weeks enough?'

'I hope so, I just really want the old Peter back.'

Shuri nodded: 'Don't we all.'
