King Kong 2005 Part 8
Fogging way through Skull Island.
Disclaimers: I own nothing
Next the sudden blast of the ship's fog horn. Bart's eyes shift upwards at the moment a gust of wind plucks the map from Bart's hand and blows it overboard whirling it out to sea. The map floats on the inky water as the Venture steams away into a huge bank of fog that seems to melt out of the Darkness! Another blast from the fog horn echoes across the silent ocean.
"That fog must be the entrance to Skull Island", Pyrrha said.
"That's correct Pyrrha", Hakaze answered.
At the Venture deck, Preston moves along the deck staring uneasily at the fog. Even the seasoned crew look unnerved. Oscar up in the crow's nest, he is reading heart of darkness by torchlight. The Venture sails into thickening fog. At the wheelhouse, Ironwood at the wheel, he barks at the helmsman.
"Station the forehead lookout, and get me the depth by lead-line!" Ironwood ordered.
"Aye, Captain." The helmsman hurries away.
In the Venture deck, the Venture steams through the fog bank. A crewman throws a lead-line over the side. concern crewman hurry to their stations.
"Thirty fathoms ... no bottom!" One of them said.
Back at the wheelhouse, Flynt is tense. Ironwood remains focused, his eyes fixed ahead.
"Reduce speed, steerage way only." Ironwood said and Flynt swings the telegraph levers.
"Dead slow ahead, both. You should stop the ship." Flynt suggest they stop the ship and Ironwood spins the wheel.
"I would listen to his suggestion if I were you", James commented knowing he would listen to Flynt's suggestion.
"But your counterpart still spins the wheel", Qrow said.
"I can see that, he should just stop the ship just avoid danger", James said why should they stop and to avoid any danger that can be lurking around.
"15 degrees Port. We're getting out of here, Mr. Coal, we'll find clear conditions." Ironwood said that they will be getting out of there and they will find a clear path.
"We have seabed!" A crewman called and Flynt rushes out of the wheelhouse.
At the Venture deck that's still covered in fog the crewman with the lead line shouts up at Flynt.
"Twenty-five fathoms!" One said alarmed.
At the wheelhouse, Flynt rushes to the wheelhouse door.
"We're shallowing!" Flynt said and Ironwood looks with despair at the thickening fog ahead. He starts spinning the wheel.
"20 degrees starboard!" Ironwood said but this begins to worry Flynt.
"Captain, you don't know where the hell you're going!" Flynt said but Ironwood glares at Flynt.
"Still wanna keep going are you?" James said because they might getting themselves into danger.
"Get me another reading!" Ironwood said and Flynt leaves and then yells at the crew.
"Another reading!"
Back on deck, Jaune looks alarmed as crewman hurry past. Bart walks away from him, towards the front of the ship.
"Twenty-two fathoms!" The crewman said.
Ironwood at the wheelhouse peers uneasily out at the fog.
"Douse the lights!" Ironwood commanded.
"Aye, aye Captain."
The Venture continues to sail through the fog.
"Ten fathoms!" A crewman said calling.
Oscar is looking around confused. Oscar's eyes suddenly widen in disbelief, he leaps to his feet, unable to summon the power of speech! What he is seeing is a huge rock face looms out of the fog straight ahead!
"I believe they are already in Skull Island now", Yang said after they see what's straight ahead.
"Yep", Sun commented.
"Wall! There's a wall ahead!" Oscar alerts everyone.
Ironwood gave a look of disbelief on his face as the Venture sails directly towards a huge wall which rises up 200 feet into the sky! The ship is dwarfed by the monstrous structure. In the wheelhouse Ironwood stares at the looming wall, unable to believe his eyes, he starts spinning the wheel hard to starboard!
"Oh dear please no collision!" Winter said because it does look like they are about to collide with the wall.
"Stop engines!" James ordered and Flynt slams the telegraph to "STOP".
At the Venture deck Bart is drawn to the forward railing of the ship, looking up at the vast wall of rock towering over them in awe. The Venture slows down, but its weight is carrying it forward. A the crowsnest, a terrified Oscar braces himself for impact while at the wheelhouse, Ironwood searches desperately through the thick fog. Back at the crowsnest, Oscar looks in terror as the bow of the ship crumples in to the wall!
"Oh boy!" Neptune commented.
"This is probably not going to end well", Weiss said.
"No they'll be fine", Hakaze counters.
Meanwhile Willow rushes out of a door, on to the deck, alarmed at the panic on the ship. Bart looks in utter awe at the wall. In the wheelhouse James yells at Flynt.
"Give me some power! Half astern, both!"
"Half astern, both, Captain!" Flynt answered.
Jaune at the Venture deck looks with horror as a jagged rock looms out of the fog off the starboard bow.
"Rocks!" Jaune said which got Oscar's attention as he sees rocks surrounding the ship.
"Rocks to starboard ... to port ... rocks everywhere!" Oscar yells to let everyone know.
"Those rocks are going to do some serious damage", Ozpin said knowing what kind of damage the rocks will do.
James Ironwood lets go of the wheel rushing towards the wheelhouse door.
"Take the wheel, Flynt!" James rushes on to the deck and looks with horror as he realizes his ship is trapped amid a labyrinth of rocks.
The Venture lolls without power in the heavy swell. The heavy throb of the engines regain strength, the reverse propellers pull the ship away, but still without adequate control.
"Oh not good, those waves can still push the Venture into a collision", James commented after seeing how things are going for the Venture.
Back with Willow, she hurries up the stairs, she clutches the railing for support and reels off balance, literally falling into Jaune's arms as the side of the Venture crunches against rock. The impact sends the Venture into a slow spin. As the ship sinks in the trough of a wave, more rock emerge from the water around it. Back on deck, Jaune looks down at Willow, he still has hold of her. In the wheelhouse, Ironwood staggers into the wheelhouse, slamming the telegraph lever forward.
"Nice catch Jaune", Weiss said after seeing his screen self catch her mom in his arms before she can hit the floor.
"Thanks Weiss", Jaune said.
"What matters now is they should try to prevent the Venture from getting damage, otherwise they are not sailing away from Skull Island then", Winter commented what they need to do.
"Full ahead!" James said as he takes the wheel from Flynt as he runs outside.
"Rocks to port, Captain!" Flynt said to Ironwood as the Venture rides the swell towards what they are about to collide with.
Suddenly! A sickening groan of metal ... as the Venture runs aground on hidden rocks! Flynt looks in horror as he comes within inches of the rock outcrop. On deck, Bart watches as a huge stone face, part of the rock outcrop they have grounded on, slides to a halt just off the Venture's bow. Weathered ... eroded away ... carved by the hand of some ancient people. Meanwhile, a breathless Oscar scuttles backwards as the crowsnest settles against the rock.
"Something tells me they will encounter people living in Skull Island aside from Kong", Kali commented after seeing those stone faces.
"You could be right, because there is no way any those stone faces might have built themselves", Ghira agrees with his wife about that assumption.
"They hit rocks, I hope they can still use the use to sail home after they are done", Glynda hopes that, but they go home eventually.
Ironwood shuts the engines down as his ship grinds sickeningly against the rock, stuck fast. Flynt, unable to believe his eyes as he stares up at the looming rock. Bart stares at the eerie silhouette of an island, visible through the thinning fog. Jagged peaks rise from a rocky shoreline. Crumbling ruins cling to barren cliffs. Willow steps closer, a look of total disbelief on her face. In the engine room, jets of water are squirting into the engine room, through cracks between riveted plates. Flynt supervises Stokers frantically opening valves on the pumps. Old mattresses are being shoved up against the leaks. James arrives, looking grim.
"Coal!"
"She's taken a pounding", Flynt reports the damage to the Venture.
"What about the prop?"
"Shaft's not bent, far as we can tell, but she's stuck hard against the rock", Flynt answered as a loud groan as the ship shifts against the rocks At that moment Oscar comes bursting into the engine room.
"Captain! You'd better come up quick!" Oscar said because something demands Ironwood's attention.
"The ship did take some damage after all", Sun said.
"But they can still fix it while they are there", Blake said to him.
"But while they do that, well they would want to explore the area at the moment", Hakaze said what's going to happen next.
End
Next, time to explore Skull Island.
