Chapter time!
I didn't mention anything regarding the poll last time so here are the final results:
Winner: White Knight 46 Votes
The second place was Poly (Weiss x Ilia x Jaune) with around 41 votes +/- 2 votes, but those wouldn't let it climb for the first place.
Therefore the main pairing will be Weiss x Jaune, though keep in mind that the main thing this story will continue to be about will still be the friendship between those free, and competitive MOBA gaming.
I will probably do some Omakes for other pairings, considering how close the votes were at times, but that's the final result. I hope, you will continue to enjoy the story regardless of your vote.
Now, that this is over, let's get into the chapter, shall we?

The game has been out for quite some time already, however, as everyone can see, there are still some bugs and glitches in the code. We are doing our best to deal with them, but the team is only so large, and we need to know what to focus on.
This thread is for reporting any and every glitch you've found out. I hope all of you will help us out.

I have a bug to report.
After you build more than three different dodge items the Broken Knight's ability to increase his defence seems to stop working properly.

Are you talking about BK's passive?

Yes, the description says that his defence should increase the more opponents are targeting him, but once you build enough damage nullifying items is seems to stop being the case.

maybe we should convince them to change their nickname. I don't think they should be calling themselves a newbie at this point.

(...)
The night had come and gone, and now the initiation day was upon them.
It was finally time for all of them to show what they were worth and enter the most prestigious huntsman academy in the whole world. They were going to be studying with the best of the best.
Weiss couldn't be more ready for this.
A yawn escaped her as she lazily made her way through the school.
Okay, that was a lie; she could have been more ready for this if she had a good night of sleep. Instead, she had been forced to endure some bizarre hazing, being made to sleep on the floor during the night.
Her shoulders still ached a little.
She groaned quietly.
What sort of school couldn't afford simple bedding for all the prospective students for a night?!
It had to have been done on purpose.
In fact, it wouldn't surprise her if the terrible sleeping conditions were some form of test that would evaluate their potential as future huntsmen and huntresses. They were supposed to be used to living in the most terrible of places if they really wanted to pursue their careers, after all.
Weiss couldn't help but shake a little at her realisation.
What if that was actually the case?
She couldn't afford to be seen tired like that.
"Are you still cranky from sleeping on the floor, Weiss?" Ilia asked.
"Yes!" Weiss answered irritably, before hastily realising what she had done and immediately trying to do damage control. "I-I mean, I'm not bothered by it at all. What sort of huntress in training would I have been if something so silly was enough to make me uncomfortable?"
Her friends looked at her funny.
Weiss almost gasped.
Oh no; neither of her friends had realised that the test had already started.
She would have to somehow clue them in on what was happening; otherwise, they might not be able to get admitted to their dream school. That would mean that she would have to be separated from them.
It wasn't a risk that she was willing to take.
With the objective in mind, she instantly began thinking about how to convey the supposed nature of the test to Ilia and Jaune. It wasn't an easy plan to come up with because she couldn't do it too visibly.
There was a chance they were being monitored, and she didn't want to potentially fail her friends by giving them help too blatantly.
She would need to do her best in order to accomplish that.
Before she could implement her plan in action, however, the three of them managed to make their way to the school's cafeteria. The moment they entered it, she was assaulted with the thick stench of maple syrup.
Weiss wrinkled her nose at the smell.
Was this the smell of the food they were going to be served here?
It was another test, wasn't it?
"Huh, I didn't think they would serve pancakes like that here." Jaune remarked. "I thought we would have only some basic healthy food options to eat. Instead, I can taste the sugar of those pancakes from here."
Weiss nodded her head.
Right, they were probably going to choose the food on their own; it wasn't some sick test to assess their stomachs' strength. It was probably a test of their decision-making skills, nothing more.
"I completely agree, Jaune." She said, making it obvious what she thought of such a food choice. "How could someone even think about eating something like that? It smells like diabetes."
A loud gasp echoed through the cafeteria.
"You take that back!"
Weiss could only blink in confusion at the sudden shout.
Did she offend someone with her words? The only thing she was criticising was the food; surely, the person who ordered such food would realise that, at worst, she was only insulting their unhealthy diet.
Truthfully, she was pretty sure her words were more of a warning than anything else, really.
A quiet sigh escaped her.
Well, regardless of the case, she should probably apologise and de-escalate the situation. It wouldn't do her well to make enemies so early into the school year, especially since the school year hasn't started yet.
There was always a chance they could become friends and maybe even play games together in the end.
She turned towards the source of the shout.
There she saw an orange-haired girl boldly standing on one of the tables—the plates full of maple syrup-covered pancakes lying all around her—and pointing at her with all of her energy and contempt.
Weiss opened her mouth to try and say something.
No words came out of her.
Ilia and Jaune chuckled a little at her misfortune.
"You have nothing to say, do you?!" The orange-haired girl shouted. "You know the travesty you've just committed, and you have nothing for your defence! Shame on you, Pancake Heretic!"
Weiss could only stand there stupefied.
Her friends couldn't contain their laughter.
"I-I'm sorry?" Weiss stammered, not knowing what to say.
The orange-haired girl smiled widely; surely, she was thrilled at her perceived victory over the Schnee heiress. The look on her face made it quite clear that she was treating this issue as seriously as it was possible.
"Of course you are, Pancake Heathen." The girl said. "Those pancakes I'm eating were made with all of Renny's skill and passion! It is a heresy to call them anything but perfect! Now, Pancake Nonbeliever, come here and atone for what you said by eating this delicacy with me."
Weiss, once again, could only stand there in confusion.
Was this really happening right now?
She was seconds away from pinching herself to check whether she was still asleep or not. It must have been a weird fever dream she had gotten after she had fallen asleep on the bare floor.
It had to be, right?
Her friends were still chuckling.
"Let's go and eat, Weiss." Jaune said after letting all his laughter out. "I don't really mind eating pancakes for breakfast. Besides, those pancakes here did basically come with a seal of approval."
"That girl does seem passionate about it." Ilia added with a nod.
Weiss could only stare as her friends made their way to the table covered with pancakes.
A sigh escaped her.
Well, it looked like they were going there now. She supposed she should probably just accept what was happening and follow her friends. At least there would be something to eat for her, even if it was mostly pancakes.
With a quiet resignation, she followed behind her friends.
The orange-haired girl chuckled boisterously.
"I knew you wouldn't be able to resist the temptation of those heavenly pancakes." The girl said. "Come and taste the delicacy that Renny prepared for me. Don't eat too much, though; I still want to have some pancakes for myself."
Weiss nodded her head as she sat down at the table.
The silverware was already there—most likely prepared beforehand by the staff at Beacon so that every prospective student would have something to eat their breakfast with—she only needed to sit down and eat.
She grumbled a little at the meal in front of her.
It still looked like it had enough sugar inside of it to curse anyone who ate it with diabetes for the rest of their lives.
The orange-haired girl looked at her expectantly.
Jaune and Ilia already began tasting the pancakes themselves, and they didn't look too ill because of that. In fact, they actually looked quite satisfied with those syrup-covered pancakes instead.
Weiss looked back at the pancakes.
There wasn't anything wrong with at least trying those things, she guessed.
After only a moment of hesitation, she swiftly cut off a piece of the meal and took a bite.
It was surprisingly tasty.
The orange-haired girl's smile widened.
"I told you those pancakes were great." The girl said with a chuckle. "There's nobody quite as good at making delicious food as Renny is. He could become a professional chef if he wanted to."
Weiss let out a quiet hum as she swallowed the food.
"I-I suppose it is good." She admitted with a slight cough. "It's certainly better than its smell led me to believe. Who is this Renny person, anyway? Is he the chef here at Beacon? How do you know him?"
A grin appeared on the orange-haired girl's face.
"He is-" The girl was interrupted by a plate full of pancakes suddenly being placed on their table.
"It's me." The person who placed the pancakes said in a kind and approachable tone. "My full name's Lie Ren. I'm not the chef here, by the way. I was simply allowed to use the kitchen. I'm pretty sure anyone could use it if they asked."
Weiss turned her head to look at Lie Ren.
The boy had long dark hair and a stature that made him seem like he would have lived through the end of the world without losing his calm. It was almost like he was the exact opposite of the orange-haired girl.
As she looked at him, Weiss almost let out a sigh of relief.
It was great to finally meet a person here that was relatively normal. When the first two people she met at Beacon were both quite peculiar, she slowly began to fear that her friends and she were the only normal people around.
She wasn't sure whether she would have liked that or not.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Lie." She greeted with a kind smile. "I'm Weiss Schnee, and these two are my friends, Jaune Arc and Ilia Amitola. I hope all of us can be friends in the future."
Lie Ren nodded his head.
"Did you really make all of those pancakes by yourself?" Ilia suddenly asked as she ate her plateful of pancakes. "They are incredible. I wouldn't mind having you as the cook here permanently if that's how good you are at cooking. As long as you would cook different foods as well, that is."
The long-haired boy smiled.
"Please, call me Ren." The boy said. "Also, I'm not planning to cook all that often in the future. I'll probably make some food for my friends from time to time. Don't expect me to do it regularly, though."
Ilia sighed.
"What a pity."
Weiss chuckled a little.
The orange-haired girl gasped.
"I'm not going to give my Renny to you, understood?" The girl said. "Our bond is special, and it's not going to be broken by something as simple as a single request. He's my cook, nobody else's."
An amused smile appeared on Ilia's face.
"Don't worry, we are not going to separate Ren from you, ugh-" Ilia paused as she tried to remember if the orange-haired girl ever introduced herself to them.
As it turned out, however, the girl had never given them her name. There wasn't a single moment in their entire encounter during which the girl's name was said in any context at any point in time.
Ren narrowed his eyes a little as he glared at his friend.
"Did you forget to introduce yourself throughout your entire conversation, Nora?" The boy asked.
The orange-haired girl avoided the eye contact.
Ren sighed.
"Of course, you did." The boy mumbled to himself. "Her name is Nora Valkyrie; she's my dear childhood friend and a bit of a bother in certain situations. I hope you three weren't too inconvenienced by her."
Weiss smiled wryly.
"Don't worry; it wasn't anything serious."
The boy grumbled a little.
Nora laughed loudly.
"Alright, enough of that; let's go prepare for the initiation! I have so many different explosives I want to test out during that test. It's going to be glorious. I simply cannot wait for it!" The girl declared loudly.
Ren faked a cough.
"We will first clean up all the plates and utensils, of course." Nora amended.
Ren nodded.
"We should probably start making our way soon, too. The initiation isn't going to wait for us, and we still have to pick up our weapons." Weiss said. "Do you two want us to help with all the cleanup? I wouldn't mind helping a little."
The orange-haired girl and the long-haired boy waved their hands at them dismissively.
"Don't worry, we will handle things fine on our own." Ren said. "See you later at the initiation. I hope you three will pass without any issues; I wouldn't mind sharing a school with you."
Weiss nodded her head as she slowly stood up.
"Alright, we will see you then."
With their temporary farewells said, Weiss, Jaune, and Ilia made their way out of the cafeteria with full stomachs and satisfied smiles on their faces.
They didn't know what sort of people they were going to work with during their years at Beacon. If these people were going to be like Nora and Ren, however, then everything was going to be just fine.
All they needed to do was simply pass the initiation first.
(...)
It didn't take long for most students to start preparing for the initiation.
The test had to happen at some point, and the day had only so many hours. There was no doubt in most people's minds that they would be told to go somewhere to take a test sometime soon.
It was only a question of when.
That was why they needed to be ready for the test as soon as possible.
Of course, the most basic way of being ready for any challenge the school could throw at them was having their weapons with them. That meant having to pick those up from their lockers.
Weiss frowned as her friends and she made their way through the halls of Beacon.
They were currently busy walking from locker to locker and picking up their weaponry, while making sure that none of her excess baggage spilt from those lockers, forcing them to put it back again.
She was extremely lucky her friends had been there to store some of her items in their lockers.
With how much she had packed for her life at Beacon, a single locket she had received for storing things—at least until they earned their rooms—wouldn't have been anywhere near enough to handle everything.
It was already difficult enough to store everything even with the two additional lockers from her friends.
Thankfully, neither of her friends had nearly enough personal items to fill up a single locker, so there was a lot of space to spare for her. She would have to thank them for that at some point.
A thoughtful hum escaped her.
It might be a good idea to take her friends shopping at some point.
They could use that occasion to search for any internet cafes in Vale as well. In the worst-case scenario, they could technically just buy a full set of four gaming computers for their team, anyway.
The cost of buying four computers wouldn't have been too bad for her, and it would have been worth it in the end.
There was no expenditure that she would consider too great for being able to play video games with her friends. She could probably somehow justify it to her father through the Scroll conversation too.
It wasn't like her father could properly investigate her spending here anymore.
With neither of her parents capable of scrutinising her every action here, she could do anything she wanted; within reason, of course.
There were still some things she probably shouldn't do no matter what. Anything that could potentially land her on the news for any reason was basically forbidden for her to do, although that was just an extreme example.
As long as she stayed out of the radar a little, she should be fine.
She should probably focus on the initiation for now, though.
They were approaching one of their lockers, after all.
"Did we really put your things so far away, Weiss?" Jaune asked. "I don't remember walking for so long yesterday. We would have been far more tired if we had walked so much with all your stuff the last time."
"It's because we were coming from another direction, Jaune." Ilia said.
Jaune huffed.
"I know that, but it still feels long even when comparing the time it took us to get from our lockers to the hall." The boy explained. "I can't be the only one who feels it's longer, right?"
Ilia turned towards the blonde boy and looked at him for a moment before smirking.
"What; are you suggesting that your locker had somehow moved during the night?" The girl said. "Are you scared that it's haunted, country boy? Don't worry, scaredy cat, a real huntress like me is going to protect you."
Jaune blushed a little before sputtering.
"N-No, that's not what I meant!"
Weiss let out a chuckle.
It was relieving to see that neither of her friends seemed too worried about the upcoming initiation.
"Sure, it isn't, Jaune." She joined in on the teasing. "If you want to really check whether it's haunted or not, though, then you don't have to wait. We are basically here, and I'm sure you'll be the first one to find out whether it's haunted or not."
Jaune turned towards her with a betrayed look on his face.
"Not you too, Weiss!"
Weiss laughed a little bit harder.
A tired groan escaped her blond friend.
The act of teasing her friend was always such an enjoyable activity to partake in. His reactions were always so expressive; it's almost like he was doing them on purpose so that Ilia and her could tease him further.
Regardless of whether the boy reacted like that on purpose or not, though, the teasing would have to be postponed, as they were already in front of their lockers.
Although there was unfortunately no way to actually reach their stuff from where they were standing because some red-haired girl was currently blocking their access by unpacking the things from her own locker.
Weiss let out a quiet sigh.
Why did those lockers have to be put so close to one another anyway?
"Excuse me, Miss; could you please make a little more space for us or finish your preparations if it's possible?" Weiss asked politely. "We would like to take some things from our lockers, and you are kind of obstructing our access."
The red-haired girl shook a little in place at her sudden request.
"Of course!" The girl said—Weiss couldn't help but note that her voice sounded slightly familiar—and shifted a little in place. "I'm sorry for blocking your way. I'll just get my weapons and be on my way."
With her words said, the girl quickly picked up the last couple of things from her locker before turning towards them and stepping a little to the side.
The moment Weiss had a chance to see the face of the girl she was talking to, however, she immediately widened her eyes in surprise. She instantly understood why that girl's voice sounded so familiar to her.
"You're Pyrrha Nikos!" She gasped.
Pyrrha winced.
Ilia and Jaune looked at her in confusion.
"Who?" Both of them asked.
Pyrrha's eyes widened in surprise.
Weiss turned towards her friends in disbelief.
"What do you mean by 'who?!'" She asked, before pointing towards Pyrrha. "She's the four-time champion of the Mistral Tournament. She's basically a huntress celebrity whose fights are streamed on the television every other week!"
Her friends looked at her for a moment in silence before slowly nodding their heads in understanding.
"I see." Jaune said. "That's why I haven't heard of her, then. I don't usually watch the television; my parents and sisters tend to hog it most of the time, and I would rather spend my free time playing video games with you two, instead."
Ilia nodded in agreement before turning towards her and explaining herself as well.
"You know my living situation, Weiss." The faunus girl said. "I don't have either the money or the time for things like television. The only reason I can play with you guys is because I'm basically a surrogate daughter of the internet cafe owner."
Weiss opened her mouth for a moment before closing it.
Okay, that actually explained everything.
In hindsight, she probably overreacted to her friend's lack of knowledge in this situation. She should have anticipated that they wouldn't know who Pyrrha Nikos was in the first place.
"I-" She paused. "You're right, I'm sorry for reacting like that."
Her friends waved her apologies off as if they were unnecessary.
It seemed that it wasn't a big deal in the end.
"It's not a big deal." Ilia said, before pausing for a moment and smirking. "Though, it is quite amusing to see you specifically acting like that towards someone. After all, you're a celebrity in your own right, Weiss Schnee."
Weiss turned towards her friend with widened eyes. She could already tell where this was going, but she didn't want to admit it was happening to her. Usually she was the one on the other side of this situation, after all.
No matter how much she wanted to deny it, though, a dangerous thought still entered her mind.
Was she being teased right now?
"Ilia." She whined.
Ilia let out a laugh.
"I wonder if it means that she's actually an even bigger celebrity than you, Weiss." The faunus girl mused out loud. "Hey, Jaune; do you think we should ditch our lesser celebrity here for someone of real class like Pyrrha?
Jaune hummed.
"We would be swapping to a better model, wouldn't we? That's an incredible idea, Ilia."
Weiss groaned.
"Stop that, please." She said.
Her friends chuckled.
"I think I finally understand why the two of you enjoy teasing me so much now." Jaune said. "Maybe I should start teasing you more often from now on; what do you think about that?"
"Don't do that." Weiss protested. "If you as much as think about teasing me like that again, then you are going to regret it later. Mark my words, I'll get my revenge for that later, whether you like it or not."
Jaune smiled widely.
"Sure, you will."
Weiss harrumphed.
Before she could try to defend herself, however, a loud laughter interrupted her.
She turned around to see who interrupted her like that, and what she saw surprised her quite a bit.
Pyrrha Nikos was strongly laughing at the situation while holding her stomach. The famous girl looked like she was about to knock herself out with how amusing she found the situation.
In all honesty, it was almost concerning.
Weiss shifted in place a little.
They weren't that funny.
Sure, their interaction was rather light-hearted, but there wasn't anything about it that should have resulted in such a drastic reaction from the celebrity. In fact, she was pretty sure that if she were in the exact same situation as Pyrrha, she would have only given a short polite laugh to not look out of place.
A subtle frown appeared on her face.
Was Pyrrha Nikos actually a socially inept person?
She instantly wanted to get rid of such a thought.
It was impossible; Pyrrha Nikos was a celebrity that was famous worldwide and someone who earned her fame through her own effort. There was no way a person like that wasn't versed with social interactions.
The thought she had was as absurd as a thought could possibly be.
Wasn't that situation almost parallel to her own, though?
She wasn't exactly a social genius, either. There were maybe two people she could consider to be her real friends, and she couldn't even speak to her parents properly. Yet, despite all of that, she's still a famous singer who has already performed multiple live concerts around the world.
Could Pyrrha be as lonely as she used to be?
She should probably try to act a bit less starstruck towards her.
After all, she wouldn't have enjoyed having to spend time with some obsessive fan, either.
In the end, it took a good minute or so for the famous girl to stop laughing and calm down. The moment she did calm down, she had to take a deep breath in order to be able to do anything.
"I'm sorry." Pyrrha said, nearly breathless. "It was the first time I saw people acting so humorously in front of me. I wasn't prepared for that. It's great to meet you three. I hope you continue to treat me well from now on."
A wide smile formed on Pyrrha's face. Weiss almost felt as if she needed to put on sunglasses due to how bright that smile was.
A person with such a pure smile shouldn't be allowed to exist.
They would need to protect it in the future.
"I-It's alright." Weiss said. "We are all just friends here; those two won't care for something like that, and neither will I. In fact, I don't know what you'd have to do for them to start being bothered by things like that. Those two didn't even know who you were a moment prior, after all."
Her friends snorted.
Pyrrha's smile widened, somehow.
"That's great!" The red-haired girl said. "Say, the teams at Beacon are supposed to be made of exactly four people, right? Would you three mind if I were to join your team after the initiation?" "
The three of them turned towards each other for a moment.
"No, we wouldn't mind." They said.
Pyrrha looked like she was about to jump up in joy.
"May all of the potential students please make their way towards the Beacon Cliff?" The headmaster's voice suddenly echoed through the halls. "The initiation will begin in twenty minutes; presence is required."
All of them turned towards the school's PA system.
"It looks like it's time to get going." Pyrrha said, before starting to head towards the building's exit. "I hope we will be able to form a team during the initiation. Let's hope that it won't be too difficult to do that. See you guys at the cliffs!"
Weiss and her friends could only stand there and watch as probably the most famous person in the world was practically skipping her way through the building. The sole reason for that being the fact that they would accept her in their team.
It was quite an entertaining sight to see.
"Did we just pick up a lost puppy?" Ilia asked.
Weiss snorted.
"It certainly feels like it," Jaune said.
The initiation was certainly looking quite promising.
(...)
The cliffs of Beacon were steep, wide, and loomed over a seemingly endless forest.
It was a perfect place to host the initiation. At the very least, it was the best place that they could have been sent to in a short time and that was also within the school's influence sphere.
Surely, the staff at Beacon would only let them take tests in the most fitting of places.
Weiss didn't really know how such a place could be fitting for a test as important as this one, though.
There was barely anything here!
How were they going to be tested if they were worthy of studying here if there was hardly any equipment to test them?
Would the teachers even be able to monitor them while they were exploring the forest?
Although, the height of the cliffs, and the contraptions—which, if she guessed correctly, were most likely some form of launchers—they were standing on, made it pretty obvious that one of the things that was going to be tested would be their landing strategies.
Wait a moment, did she ever go over the landing strategies with her friends?
She didn't remember ever teaching them any, and they had for sure never talked to her about it, either. It was entirely within the realm of possibility that her friends wouldn't know how to get down to the forest.
With a hidden concern, she quickly glanced at her friends.
They didn't look too worried.
In all honesty, both her friends looked more curious than anything. Whatever the case, at least they didn't appear to be too scared of failing, so the situation could have always been worse.
She tried to relax.
Her friends were going to be fine.
The only thing she needed to do was trust them.
In the worst-case scenario, they would get a bit ruffled by tanking a fall like that with their aura, and maybe lose a couple of points in the evaluation. They could easily recover from something like that.
"I see that everyone's already here," Ozpin remarked.
Weiss instantly turned towards the headmaster.
All the prospective students became quiet.
The initiation was about to start.
Ozpin smiled.
"For years all of you have trained to become warriors, and today your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." The headmaster pointed towards the giant forest behind him and underneath the cliffs. "Your task will be to find a single relic down there and bring it back to Beacon. There is a finite number of relics, and the Emerald Forest is filled with Grimm. You will be expected to give your all in order to accomplish that task."
Weiss nodded her head in understanding.
Okay, the test was going to be a form of retrieval mission. It was something she had trained for, and she knew that both her friends—despite their rather unorthodox huntsmen education—were prepared for missions like these as well.
They could do it.
"Also, the first person you make eye contact with is going to be your partner for the next four years." Ozpin suddenly added.
Weiss froze.
Were the teams they would be stuck at for the next four years really going to be chosen like that?
It was a terrible idea!
How was she supposed to ensure that her friends and she would be on a team together if her partner was basically chosen by a random chance?! Trying to ensure everything went according to their plan was going to be a nightmare.
Her friends—as well as multiple other people—shifted in place.
It was clear that there weren't many potential students who were fans of the headmaster's idea.
"I'm hoping to see a lot of competent teams form this year, so you should do your best to not disappoint me." Ozpin said. "Remember, do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die."
The older man stepped to the side.
"Do you have any questions?"
Jaune raised his hand.
"How are we supposed to get down to the Emerald Forest?"
Ozpin took a sip from his mug.
"Do not worry, we will get you there."
In an instant, the contraptions underneath their feet whirred into action, and every single one of them was immediately sent flying through the air in the direction of Emerald Forest.
The initiation had begun.
And cut!
This and the last chapter were mostly cast introductory chapters, kinda like "Here's the new people you can expect to see in this part of the story, and here's how their relationship with the people you know". I hope, I didn't do them too badly.
The next chapter is going to be initiation, and team forming.
(By the way, does anyone knows some decent free grammar checker, lately the QuillBot, which I'm using, had some issues.)
See ya then!
