(Hello. I'm new to writing on this platform. I haven't written anything in a long time and wanted to start again. It seems to calm me, and Inuyasha is my favorite anime, so here I am. I hope everyone enjoys the first chapter. Let me know how I did. Any advice is appreciated.)
Summary: Kagome does not know how it happened or why. Kagome and Inuyasha grew up next door neighbors and were born on the same day. Their mothers were friends, so they always hung out together as kids. But one day, it all changed. One day, Inuyasha was her friend, and the next he hated her guts….
Chapter 1: Time of Judgement
The mid-October air was crisp as the wind blew. The air was dry as the crumpled-up leaves fell from the trees onto the sidewalks, roadways, and lawns. Thunder rolled in the background, indicating that rain was on the horizon. Kagome skipped happily out the front door and across her lawn to the lawn beside hers, where her best friend lived. Halloween was their favorite holiday, and it was just around the corner. She wanted to go over costume ideas with her best friend and find out which streets they could trick or treat on to get the most candy. Kagome stopped before her best friend's door and knocked on the door, practically jumping up and down in excitement.
A few minutes later Inuyasha opened the door, staring daggers at Kagome. Kagome, in her midst of excitement, didn't seem to notice. "Hey, Inuyasha! Guess what?! I have the best ideas for our customs this year! We are gonna-" She was cut off by a growl low in Inuyasha's throat. It was almost primal, making Kagome stop and stare wide-eyed at him. "I'm not going trick or treating this year, and I'm especially not going with you." Kagome was caught off guard by how cold and emotionless Inuyasha sounded. "W-why? Did I do something to upset you?" Sure, Inuyasha and Kagome have fought before, like most close friends do. But this felt different to Kagome, and she didn't like the pit growing in her stomach. "Why? Why, you ask?! I'll tell you why." Inuyasha stepped out of the house and slammed the door shut hard, breaking the frame and making Kagome jump, Kagome having never witnessed Inuyasha's raw demon strength. Inuyasha always kept Kagome away from the demon world. Of course, humans know about demons and live peacefully with them, but most still keep to their kind, only a few, like Inuyasha's mother and father, choosing to mingle. Kagome was snapped out of her thoughts as Inuyasha shoved her, making her take a few steps back. "Look at you! We are 12 years old! About to turn 13! And you are still a fucking child! Talking about trick or treating and shit! I mean you still wear my little fucking pony shirts! I'm embarrassed to be seen with you! You make me sick, and I never want to see you again!" Inuyasha all but screamed as he shoved her repeatedly, all the way to an old-looking well in his yard. Smirking, Inuyasha gave one final push, pushing Kagome back into the well. Kagome screamed as she fell headfirst down the well. Luckily, there was a good amount of water at the bottom, and she was not hurt, physically, anyway. Coughing up water and holding back tears, Kagome looked back up at Inuyasha, just to see him staring coldly down at her, then he turned around and disappeared.
Kagome stayed down in that well and cried for hours. Inuyasha did not come back to get her or apologize. After a while, afraid of getting sick from the freezing rain that started to come down, Kagome climbed out of the well and walked the short distance back home. Kagome never knew what caused Inuyasha to turn on her so suddenly, but she had an idea. But she didn't want to believe it. As years went by, Kagome clung to the hope that Inuyasha would enlighten her on what exactly happened that night. She clung onto that hope for 5 years…
(Present day)
Kagome violently slammed her hand down on her annoying, obnoxiously loud alarm clock. Groaning in annoyance, anger, and sadness. Kagome dreams about that fateful day at least 3 times a year, at random. She hates the fact that she is unable to forget or let go of Inuyasha. However, she wouldn't be able to forget him, considering they go to the same school and are in the same class. On the bright side, Inuyasha was gifted a sports car for his 16th birthday last year, so he won't pester Kagome on the bus anymore. His father is a generational millionaire and owns a very successful business. Kagome's mother owns her own catering business. It isn't nearly as successful, but they still easily make 6 figures. Mrs. Higurashi offered to get Kagome a car as well for her birthday, but she declined, Kagome wanting to work for an expensive gift.
Sighing, Kagome crawled out of her bed to the adjoining bathroom in her room. Turning on the shower, Kagome stripped out of her pink polka-dot pajamas and jumped in the shower. Kagome washed her hair and scrubbed her body clean before getting out and drying off. Looking at herself in the mirror, you would think she was abused by her parents. However, that is not the case. Over the years, Inuyasha has adopted a more physical way of tormenting her, instead of just verbally. It wasn't that the bruises were bad; he bruised her just enough to discolor the skin. The bruising would be gone in a few days. Not that she cared though, it has happened so much now, she has grown numb to the abuse from her former best friend. Dressing in a turtleneck and skinny jeans, Kagome threw her hair up in a messy bun and brushed her teeth. It is the beginning of October, so it is pretty chilly outside. Halfway satisfied with how she looks in the mirror, she walked out of her room and down the stairs, where her mom was already plating out breakfast for her little brother, Sota, and her grandpa. Grabbing a piece of toast and her backpack off the kitchen chair, she headed towards the door. "Is that all you're going to eat, dear?" Mrs. Higurashi called out. "Yeah, mama! I'm not that hungry, and I'm running late for the bus." Kagome called back, already opening the front door, hearing the screeching bus's wheels down the road. "Ok, honey. Be safe! I love you!" Kagome rolled her eyes and smiled. "Love you too, mama." Shutting the door, Kagome ran down the driveway to wait for the school bus. Glancing at Inuyasha's house, she saw his car still in the driveway, sighing, Kagome shook her head to herself. Inuyasha was seldom on time for school anymore. Kagome turned back to see the bus in front of her. Getting into the bus and walking to the back, and sitting down, away from everyone.
Kagome was not popular in school at all. She was considered weird and a geek for still liking cartoons and anime. Not to mention, people always commented on how she dressed and her weight. Kagome had curves, but by no means fat; however, she did not believe that. Kagome only had one friend, Sango. Sango was captain of the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams. She was very athletic and outgoing. Sango was also part of the popular crowd, part of Inuyasha's crowd. Kagome couldn't fathom why someone as popular as her is friends with her. Sango's boyfriend of 1 year, Miroku, is Inuyasha's best friend. The three of them have a very close knit friend group. Deep down, Kagome is still hurt about being left out by Inuyasha, but she pushes it down, knowing deep down how much Inuyasha hates her.
Kagome snapped out of her thoughts as the school bus jolted to a stop. Wondering who hired such an aggressive school bus driver, Kagome got up and walked off the bus. Putting her earbuds in, Kagome walked into school and straight to her locker, opening it and getting her books out. She didn't hear someone coming up from behind.
"Kagome!" Sango screamed as she jumped on her back. Kagome jumped and looked at Sango with wide eyes, her heart slamming in her chest. Ripping out her earbuds, she turned fiery eyes towards her. "Sango! What the fuck?! Don't do that. You scared the shit out of me." Laughing, Sango closed Kagome's locker door for her, linked arms with her, and walked to their first-period class. They shared the first and last period. "So.. I was wondering.. Since today is Friday and also my birthday, I'm thinking about throwing a party. My parents will be gone for the weekend, so we won't have to worry about-" Kagome instantly cut her off. "Sango… You know I'm not a party person. Crowds make me nervous, for one. And you know Inuyasha is not a fan of me, and I know he will most likely be there." Sango rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, Kagome! Live a little. One party is not gonna hurt it's good for the soul to let loose every once in a while. And as far as Inuyasha goes, it's not like he's gonna bite you. You can just ignore each other all night. It'll be fine." Kagome never told Sango about Inuyasha's physical abuse towards her, just the names he calls her. Inuyasha was always smart about not using physical force in public with Kagome, but if he caught her alone, that was a different story. She also didn't tell Sango that they used to be friends. She found it best to just keep that information to herself. "I don't know Sango… We have a test on Monday that I should-" Sango sighed as they walked into their first-period classroom and sat in their seats. "Fuck the test Kagome. It's my 18th birthday party. Please! Just one party! Please, please please please ple-" Kagome huffed in annoyance and defeat. "Fine, Sango! I'll go. But under no circumstances are you to try to get me and Inuyasha to be friends. Is that clear?" Sango has been trying to get Kagome and Inuyasha to be friends since sophomore year, and each time, Inuyasha managed to get her alone and teach her a lesson about trying to get back into his life. She had stopped trying a long time ago. "Yes!" Sango screamed as she hugged Kagome tightly. "You have my word!"
Just then, Inuyasha, who also shares first period with Sango and Kagome, walks in just as the bell rings. Wearing designer jeans with chains hanging off, and a red t-shirt. Kagome glanced up at the top of his head and sighed as she noticed he was still hiding his dog-like ears with a spell. You could still tell he was a demon, but it made it less likely to point out if he was a half-breed or not. Inuyasha started hiding his ears shortly after their fight 5 years ago. Kagome suddenly jumped as Inuyasha suddenly appeared in front of her and snapped his fingers aggressively in front of her. "What are you staring at, wench?!" Inuyasha said roughly. Sango piped up before Kagome could answer. "Probably at the board right behind your big ass head. Promise me you'll play nice. Kagome agreed to come to my party, and I want no fighting." Kagome elbowed Sango secretly in hopes she would shut up, and she did not. Inuyasha smirked then. "Oh really? I had no idea the geek liked to party?" Inuyasha refused to call Kagome by her real name since their fight, and Kagome learned to ignore it for the most part. Kagome instantly tensed at the way Inuyasha looked at her, as if he viewed her as prey. " I-I don't. I-It's just important to Sango if I go." Inuyasha rolled his eyes at her clear fear of him. A part of him enjoyed the fear and power he had over her, a small part of him he had long since buried did not. He smirked even more. Leaning down close to her ear, he whispered in a tone that was both laced with venom and what Kagome swore was lust, "You can go to the party if you want, I won't stop you. But just know, don't come crying when something… unfortunate happens." Leaning back up like nothing happened, Inuyasha walked to the back of the class and sat down. In truth, he wasn't planning to do anything to her at the party, he just wanted to freak her out. Sango watched both of them, knowing something must have happened to make the two act like this towards each other. She had known Inuyasha for 2 years, and yeah, he was a little stuck up, but she never saw him treat someone so badly like he does Kagome. Just before she was about to ask about it, the teacher walked in and ordered the class to settle down. Sango sighed, thinking she could pester Kagome about it at lunch.

Finally, the bell rang for lunch, and Kagome was starving, considering she didn't get much for breakfast. Kagome packed her things and walked out of her classroom to her locker. To her surprise, Sango was waiting by her locker. Usually, she ate with Miroku and Inuyasha. Not that she minded, she liked being alone with her thoughts. Stopping by her locker and opening it, she glanced at Sango and sighed. "I know that look. What's up?" Sango smiled a little. "Nothing. Just thinking. I know you don't like to talk about it, but we are friends and we should share everything, right?" Kagome paused for a moment, realizing what this was about. "This isn't about Inuyasha and me, is it?" Kagome hates talking about it, and she knew if she ever told anyone about Inuyasha and her friendship in the past, he'd probably kill her. "Come on. Inuyasha is a bully, yes, but with you, it's on a whole new level. There has to be a reason." Kagome sighed and slammed her locker shut, walking to the school cafeteria. Sango instantly fell into step with her. "Truth be told, Sango, I never got an answer as to why he treats me the way he treats me." Her eyes grew as she realized she might have admitted to more than she wanted to, and judging by Sango's face, she knew she had caught on. "Never got an answer? You mean, as you guys used to not fight? Maybe even used to be friends?!" Kagome tensed as Sango's voice gradually rose in pitch, looking around quickly to make sure Inuyasha wasn't around to overhear, before looking back at Sango. "Sango, shut up. Ok? Yes. Maybe we used to be friends, but Inuyasha can't know I told you that, ok? So just drop it." Sango was practically jumping up and down, already cooking up ideas on how to mend their relationship. "So what if Inuyasha knows you told me. Oh God, this is perfect. You guys should talk at the party and work out your differences." Grabbing their food and sitting down at the table, Kagome instantly shot that idea down. "No. He doesn't want to mend our relationship, and until I get closure on why he turned on me so suddenly, I don't want to mend it either." Sango frowned slightly, her eyebrows pulling together. "Fine.. I won't do anything. But you two should talk. I think if you two do, you'll get further than you think." Kagome rolled her eyes and started to eat, clearly done with the conversation. Not too far away sat Inuyasha and Miroku, Inuyasha staring daggers at Kagome, having heard half the conversation and not liking it one bit.

After lunch, the day went by smoothly, especially since she had not run into Inuyasha much today. However, he did share her last period with her, and happened to sit directly behind her. She just hoped he was a bit nicer today. That thought went out the window as she walked into class, with Inuyasha standing beside her desk, watching her. Kagome gulped and walked towards him, timidly setting her things down. Both of them were early, so there weren't that many students in the classroom, and the few that were there had earbuds in and weren't paying an ounce of attention to them. Inuyasha was the first to break the silence. "So.. What did you tell Sango about our past?" Kagome's eyes grew slightly, realizing he must have overheard. "N-nothing. She figured it out on her own…" Inuyasha growled slightly under his breath. "You mean nothing to" Instead of the fear she normally felt when Inuyasha berated her, Kagome felt anger in the moment. "I mean nothing to you? Is that it!" She suddenly yelled, shocking Inuyasha slightly. Inuyasha has not seen this part of Kagome in 5 years. "You know what?! I'm sick and tired of you pushing me around and treating me like shit! Last I checked, I didn't do anything to you! I bet the only reason you broke our friendship was for popularity! You even hide the cutest part about you, your fucking ears! How does it feel to constantly pretend to be someone you're not?!" By the end of her short rant, Kagome was huffing and puffing. Her chest moved up and down in quick breaths, and her face turned red in rage. Inuyasha blinked once, twice, then growled low in his throat, almost sounding like a warning. "I don't need to explain myself to a nobody like you." Leaning down close to her ear, he whispered in such a way that her blood ran cold. "And if you ever, and I mean ever, mention my ears again… you'll wish you'd never met me. Do I make myself clear?" Kagome gulped, fear instantly running down her spine. Before she could answer, Inuyasha leaned up and silently took his seat. Kagome instantly sat down as well, unable to believe that she stood up to Inuyasha after so many years. Maybe a party would be good, maybe that's what she needed.
