Beanie Head and Blue Hair

In this story, Peach Creek is somewhere between Seattle and Vancouver(Canada), in Washington, USA. And events of season 1 to season 6 in Ed Edd n' Eddy took place in 2008-2009.

2,500 words in this chapter!

Marie is sitting on a picnic bench at the Peach Creek Public Park. She sits with 4 other people, all of whom are friends from her group. She would sit with them if May and Lee were not busy. Some of them are eating food they bought from a fast food joint near the park entrance. This was their usual lunch spot.

Marie tells her friends about the assignment with Edd, a person whom she used to harass relentlessly. This caused her friends to tease her about whether or not she likes him once again. Marie insists that while she's interested in getting to know him, it's entirely platonic

On the walk back to school, one friend drew Marie a sketch of her and Edd holding hands with a heart behind her. She pockets the drawing, saying she'll discard it later.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy, eating at the China Palace, a Chinese restaurant in Peach Creek. On the square table, Edd sits, and in front of him is what seems to be an almost finished plate of Yangzhou fried rice. Eddy sits opposite Edd. In front of Eddy were a few garlic shrimps left and a small portion of rice, also almost finished. Ed sits on the side between the two. He has a clean plate in front of him. Seems like he already finished eating and licked the plate clean. Damn. In a public restaurant. Ed is just playing games on his phone since his food is finished.

"I'm still mad at the damn administration." said Eddy, still chewing his shrimps.

"Swallow before you talk, Eddy." said Edd, looking at Eddy, before looking back down his plate.

"Whatever." said Eddy, shrugging as he swallowed his food.

"What are you mad about?" asked Edd, looking back at Eddy after he spooned up a piece of his fried rice.

He then puts the food in his mouth.

"Those old heads should've never removed the dang cream cheese mashed potato- tater tots." said Eddy, in a tone like he's been through war.

Edd chewed and swallowed his food, before replying.

"I absolutely agree." said Edd, looking down. Lightly smiling.

"Man I used to eat those every day." said Eddy, staring into his plate. Reminsicing.

"What a shame... They were like tater tots! But instead of potatoes. It was mashed potatoes..." said Ed.

"Ed, you dolt. That's exactly what it is! Mashed potato tater tots." said Eddy, eyeing Ed.

Hearing the word tater tots reminded Edd of something. Didn't the Kankers like tater tots?

Edd looked up and raised his hand to call the attention of his friends, he covered his mouth as he was chewing.

"What?" Eddy said, looking at Edd.

Edd swallows.

"Tater tots. Fellas, do you recall back in Junior High eighth grade when the school recently opened and we had been assigned to separate homerooms? Then we tried to negotiate with the Kankers to trade our homerooms?" said Edd.

"Yeah, and then they made a joke of us in front of the school." said Eddy, scoffing as he grabbed one of his shrimps to eat.

"Then they tricked us into the girl's bathroom and- and-" said Ed, before being cut off by Edd.

"When I went to the Kankers in the boiler room, I gave them tater tots to trade for our spot." said Edd, looking at his plate of food.

"Yeah? Cool, and Lee used to say I look like one." said Eddy, eating his garlic shrimps.

"Ohhh, guys! You made me hungry again. I want some tater tots now." said Ed as he rubbed his stomach.

"Buy with your own money this time." said Eddy, looking at Ed.

Footsteps, chitchatting, and the whirring of the air conditioner filled the air between them for a moment.

"The Kankers.. We didn't even get our homeroom trade." said Eddy, resuming to speak.

"Well, I had a conversation with Marie earlier, and she seems to be more mature. I don't think she's as ferocious as back then." said Edd.

"How? When did you talk to Marie?" asked Eddy as he eyed Edd and raised his eyebrows, licking his fingers to clear the garlic sauce.

"We got paired up for an English assignment, that is all." said Edd, looking at Eddy.

"What assignment?" asked Eddy, as he grabbed another shrimp and ate it. Why would he do this right after licking his fingers clean? No idea.

".. It may sound strange, but we plan our future as if we are married." said Edd.

Eddy almost choked on his shrimp as he heard this, beating his chest with a fist.

"Really?" asked Ed, raising all of his unibrow.

"Yes, really." said Edd.

"Oh that's a strange assignment, alright, Double D." said Eddy, staring at Edd.

Edd nodded in acknowledgement.

"Good luck- sockhead. Plan out your marriage with your middle school stalker. I wouldn't even be surprised if she pulled the strings for this." said Eddy, coughing between the words of his sentence.

"Thanks, Eddy. Although, there is no need to mention the second part of your sentence, as I believe she is no longer the person she was 4 years ago. Don't be ridiculous." said Edd.

"Eh, who the hell knows?" said Eddy, eating the last shrimp on his plate then licking his fingers clean, for the last time.

"Double D, why do you eat so slowly?" asked Ed, looking at Edd.

"So I can enjoy the meal longer." replied Edd as he turned back to his plate.

Nothing worth noting happened later after lunch at school. The Eds went back to the school, but not before going to the candy store next to China Palace. Though they have grown up and things have changed, their love for jawbreakers remains a constant. They headed back to school and had 20 minutes to spare at lunch. They just sold snacks to some kids during those 20 minutes.

The day ended with Edd driving Eddy, Ed, and Sarah back to their Cul-de-Sac. And the Kankers are walking home together.

Edd unlocks the door to his house and enters. He takes off his shoes and puts on house slippers. He goes to his room and takes off his bag, hanging it close to the door. He sat down at his desk and began to do his homework.

Marie and May reached their trailer as they went inside. They know their mother is home, sleeping. She works early in the morning and gets home when they are at school. They don't see each other often because of this. Marie takes off her hoodie and puts it in the clothes basket.

"Let me shower first. I sweated a lot today." said Marie, soft tone as to not wake their mother.

"You sweat the most every day anyway! But go ahead." replied May as she eyed Marie.

"Yeah. Cause I exercise the most. Lazy bum." replied Marie, glaring at May.

"Shut your mouth and go shower, Marie." said May narrowing her eyes as she looked away and began to walk to the couch.

"And don't be long!" said May as she abruptly stopped in her path and turned back to point at Marie.

Marie goes up to her room, which is shared with both of her sisters. She undresses and puts on a towel as she walks back downstairs into the bathroom. Around 30 minutes later, she walks out of the shower. Marie is a long showerer. She loves the warmth of the shower. Her sisters hated this.

She then went upstairs and put on her Pajamas, olive green shirt, and black boxer shorts. Marie now lies on her stomach in bed, looking at her phone, scrolling through whatever, being blown by the small fan on the bedside table in front of her.. When she remembered something. She reached up to her black patchwork bag, which was decorated with sewn-on symbols, and it was lying on the bedside table, right next to the fan. She then pulled out Double D's number. She began typing it onto her phone and called, putting the phone up to her ears.

Edd's phone buzzed. He then put his pen down and pulled off his earbuds as he was studying. He then picked up the phone and put it on speaker.

"Hello. Edward speaking." said Edd. Putting his phone to his ear as he leans back on his office chair.

"Hiii Double D!" Marie says in a sweet, high-pitched voice, through the phone.

"Oh. Hello, Marie. What do you need at this hour of the day?" said Edd, surprised. Pleasantly? Not sure, depends on what she's calling for. It was 7 PM after all.

"Nuthin'... Calling to check if the number's right." said Marie.

"Well. It is I. How are you?" asked Edd.

"Fine. Hey, about the project. You said you want it to be warm autumn autumn-themed? Or white, red theme?" said Marie.

"Yes." said Edd.

"I had a thought in the middle of the day. We should make it us-themed. Y'know. Me and you, you put what you like, and I put what I like to decorate the paper." said Marie, explaining as she fidgets around with her nails.

Upon finishing her sentence. Marie realized that it might not be normal for a work like this to be a mix of the two people doing it. She did not think of this in the middle of the day, she thought of it just now because she didn't know what to say. Was that too intimate? Cheesy? Why did she suggest that? Maybe he'll think she likes him or something. Which she swore she doesn't! By the way!

"Interesting proposal, Marie. I never thought of that. Good idea. Why not." said Edd, believing it's the better alternative.

Oh.

"Okay. It would be like.. science flasks, math symbols on one side and then something like an electric guitar on the other side. Okay?" said Marie, gently kicking her feet around.

"Sure." said Edd as she rotated around in his chair.

Silence for a few seconds.

"Yup." said Marie.

Silence for more seconds.

"You play the electric guitar?" asked Edd.

"Nah. I play drums." replied Marie, twirling her hair with her fingers.

"Oh, wow. How long have you been playing?" asked Edd, as he stopped turning the chair around.

"Like two or three years." replied Marie.

"You have drums in the trailer?" asked Edd.

"No. I have it at a friend's house. Drums in the trailer are you kidding me?" answered Marie as she slightly chuckled.

Edd returned the gesture.

Silence ensues between the two phones for a few seconds.

"You play any instruments?" asked Marie, continuing.

"Uh, well. I possess the ability to play the piano and the pedal steel guitar. Although I don't particularly enjoy it." said Edd as he returned to revolve around in his chair.

"Hm? Well, if you don't like it, why did you play it? Did you lose interest?" asked Marie.

"No, I never had any interest. My parents forced me to." answered Edd.

"Damn. You mean the pedal steel guitar right?" asked Marie.

"Yes, piano, I quite enjoy." answered Edd.

"What even is a pedal steel guitar?" asked Marie, confused.

"It's basically a guitar on a table, minus the body, and you can change the pitches with your foot." said Edd.

"Huh. You learn new things every day, I guess." said Marie.

"That is one of the best things about life." said Edd.

"Heh." Marie exclaimed, smiling as she looked down at the bed sheets.

She then realized something.

"Wait! Isn't it that thing you played on your, uhm, makeshift cruise, that me, and my sisters chased you down with our own?" said Marie, excitedly.

"Oh! Yes, indeed it is." said Edd, recalling the memory.

"Wow. Guitar would've been way cooler. Wacky instrument to put your children on." said Marie.

"I've wondered the same." said Edd.

The conversation paused for a few seconds, and all Edd could hear was the fan blowing into her phone.

"What got you interested in drumming?" asked Edd, curious to learn about her more, he's surprised to find himself enjoying the conversation.

"Hmm... Well.. I just liked it when I tried it the first time, I guess. I found out I had a talent for it, so I just started doing it more. Like, I really like whacking things with sticks. Like baseball." answered Marie, playing around with the fabric of her bed.

"Ah, of course." answered Edd as he nodded.

"Why did you start playing the piano?" asked Marie, tilting her head.

"I find the piano to be a fascinating piece of instrument. So naturally, I began to learn it, and I enjoyed it." answered Edd.

"Oh, I guess for me, I never had an interest in drums. Until I tried it. Really fun. Y'know, I actually wanted to try playing an electric guitar. I tried both on the same day. Electric guitar, you just need to memorize and place your finger somewhere. I don't like memorizing. Plus, my fingers hurt. But drums, you just hit something with some other thing. Simple!" said Marie, cheer in her voice as she went on about her hobby.

"That's nice. Aren't drums more difficult than guitars?" asked Edd.

"I guess it depends on people. Drums are harder for most people. For me, drums are wayyyy easier." answered Marie as her eyes darted around the bedroom floor.

"Ah, of course." said Edd, nodding.

"I actually can play a few chords on the guitar though. I could play one song." said Marie as she looked up at the ceiling.

"What is it, Marie?" asked Edd.

"Mary Had a Little Lamb." Marie answered, laughing.

Edd chimed in with his own laughter.. They continue for a few more seconds.

"A bad version of it. Friends call it Marie Had A Little Lamb." Marie continued, laughing.

Edd continued laughing with Marie. Until there were no more words or sounds from the two for a few seconds.

"Well, Marie, I must say. It has been nice catching up with you." said Edd, looking at the phone.

Marie thought to herself. Wow, what nice words she never would've believed she would hear from Edd.

"Yeah? I can say that too." said Marie, smiling as she rolled in her bed and switched to lay on her back.

"Glad to hear." said Edd, smiling.

"Me too." said Marie, smiling wider than she expected as she stared at the ceiling.

"Well, I have to go take a shower and cook dinner." said Edd.

"Okay. Talk to you later, Double D." said Marie.

"Farewell, Marie." said Edd as he waved, stopping as he realized he was waving to someone on the phone. He then hangs up.

Marie puts her phone down. It has been a pretty nice chat. What does she have to do at 6 PM? Kill time, then fall asleep, I guess. Marie continues scrolling through Twitter.
