Beanie Head and Blue Hair

3,900 words this chapter!

Friday morning, Edd woke up at his usual time of 6:30 AM. He completes the same routine. He puts on his usual orange jacket for school. He picked up Ed, Eddy, and Sarah in his sedan. Jimmy went with them this time. His parents' car is under maintenance.

"Thank you for having me Double D." said Jimmy, smiling.

He's grown into a flamboyant guy who knows a lot of people. He's bisexual. His crush on Sarah? He never gave it much thought, he tries his best to see her as only a friend. Has been working well. Currently wearing a red striped shirt, blue jeans, and has a red scarf around his neck. His braces have come off, his teeth are perfectly white and straight.

"Always, Jimmy." said Edd, nodding at Jimmy through the rearview mirror. Turning back to focus on driving.

Jimmy sits next to Sarah in the back seat, and next to Sarah is Ed. Ed is looking through the window, daydreaming.

"Are you guys cramped back there?" asked Edd, looking at his passengers through the rearview mirror.

"A little bit." said Ed. As he turned back to Edd.

"We can manage, Double D." said Jimmy. Nodding his head, smiling. He loves smiling. As he turns back to talk to Sarah.

"Okay, good." said Edd, turning back.

"Don't get too cramped or we won't find Waldo!" said Eddy as he burst into loud laughter after finishing his joke.

Eddy sits in the front seat. Ironic that he's making fun of Jimmy's outfit, as he himself has on a black jacket with a skeleton riding a motorcycle with flames on the back.

"Very funny, Eddy." said Jimmy, rolling his eyes.

Ed laughed heartily a bit.

"Bit rude, don't you think, Eddy?" said Edd, eyeing Eddy.

"Yeah, sorry! I just had to!" said Eddy as he continued laughing.

A few minutes go by.

"Double D, you can't get more slow than this!" said Eddy. Irritated.

"Eddy, please. Understand we have 3 people in the backseat. If I drove any faster, an accident could occur." said Edd, looking at his friend.

"Edd! But you're going like, what?! 10 miles per hour!" interjected Eddy. Pointing at Edd's speedometer.

"That is the lowest legal speed for this road." said Edd. Keeping his focus on the road.

"You can go fas-" said Eddy.

"Eddy, please, stop distracting the driver." said Edd, interrupting Eddy.

"I don't mind, Double D. We aren't in a rush, are we?" said Jimmy, turning away from speaking to Sarah.

Eddy scoffed. As he leans back on his seat and groans, crossing his arms.

The group reached the school, and they all stepped out onto the asphalt. Instructed by Edd to close the door gently, they did so.

"Thank you, Double D, for driving me to school." said Jimmy as he raised his hands to shake Edd's.

"No problem, Jimmy." said Edd as he shook Jimmy's hands.

Jimmy nodded at Edd as he started walking into school with Sarah by his side, walking along with him.

"Oh- Double D! I forgot to tell you, you don't have to pick me and Jimmy back home today. We're going somewhere!" said Sarah, stopping in her tracks as she turned back.

"Oh, okay, Sarah. Enjoy the outing!" said Edd as he waved at the two.

Sarah and Jimmy continued walking their way.

Since they arrived relatively early, even though Edd went slow. They spent their free time goofing around in their usual shenanigans. Ed found a quarter on the floor. Good for him.

A few minutes before the bell rang, the Kankers arrived. They show up mostly just within 5 minutes before the first period starts. Sometimes later. They split upon reaching school to their own classes. Or somewhere. On fridays, Marie and May share their first class together along with Ed and Eddy. History Class.

Marie sits next to May. Across the room are Ed and Eddy, sitting next to each other.

"Ed. That's Marie, right?" whispered Eddy as to not be too loud, subtly pointing at Marie.

"I think so, Eddy." whispered Ed back. After looking at Marie.

"Double D said he kind of talked with her, didn't he? And that's May next to her." whispered Eddy.

"Yeah." whispered Ed.

"I guess we haven't seen them bully people in a while." whispered Eddy, looking at Marie.

"Maybe they changed, Eddy. People grows." whispered Ed, a flash of wisdom occurring as he stared blankly at the book on his desk.

"Whate-" whispered Eddy, before being interrupted.

"Ed. Eddy. What would you like to share with the class?" said the teacher, loud enough to catch Ed and Eddy's attention. Interrupting Eddy, as she places both her hands on her hips

Everyone looked at the pair.

"Oh- uh- nothing, Miss Berry." said Eddy. Looking at her.

"N- nothing, Miss Berry." said Ed, in unison with Eddy. Looking at the teacher.

"What were you two talking about?" said Teacher Berry.

They both went silent. Eddy looks around his classroom. Meeting the eyes of pretty much everyone in the class. He scratched his head.

Ed looked down at his table, frowning.

"Don't speak again. Sorry class. Moving on.." said Teacher Berry. She begins looking at the book in her hand and began to read it out loud again.

Marie and May turns back from Eddy and Ed as she continues to add funny accessories to the historical photos.

"Heh, those goofballs." Marie thought to herself. Friends of Edd, it would be interesting to catch up with them too.

The rest of the day went by uneventfully until lunch break. Then Ed, Edd n' Eddy went out of the school. Edd brought home-cooked food for lunch today. So it was just Ed and Eddy buying food to eat. Fast food. Since Edd wasn't gonna eat it with them. He does like to indulge in unhealthy fast food sometimes. But only on occasions. After that, they went to buy snacks to sell and got back to school as soon as possible to distribute them as much as they could.

Marie's day went by pretty much the same. For lunch, she and her friends went to their usual spot and ate their usual stuff.

After lunch, everyone went back to class, same smooth routine with nothing peculiar happening. After all the classes were done and the bell rang for the last time this week, people were excited for a Friday evening or night. Some people have extra classes but I mean, mostly not on a Friday.

RINGRINGRINGRINGRING The final bell rings through the school.

Everyone headed out of their class.

Edd is waiting near the school entrance for Ed and Eddy. This is usually where they meet up to get ready to go home.

"Ed. They screech, and yip, and bark. That's what Google said." said Eddy to Ed as they were walking together towards Edd. He then put his phone back in his pocket after reading from it.

"Oh, oh! So it would be like, AHHH-" said Ed, shouting at the end for a split second before having his mouth covered by Eddy.

"Dude! What's wrong with you?!" said Eddy, covering Ed's mouth, and due to the height difference, he compensated by jumping and dragging Ed's head down.

They reached Edd by the time Ed shouted.

"Jeez, man, what happened?" asked Edd, seemingly worried as he raised his eyebrow.

Eddy lets go of Ed.

"Lumpy wanted to know what the fox actually said. I told him they screamed, then, you know!" said Eddy, narrowing his eyes at Ed.

"Oh. Haha." Edd chuckled.

"Worst song on earth, and somehow inescapable, people seem to sing it everywhere I go." said Edd.

"It is kind of good." said Ed.

"No, it's not!" shouted Eddy, looking at Ed.

"It is annoying to say the least." said Edd, looking at Ed.

"You guys are not cool. Let's just go home." said Ed, rolling his eyes. He then began to walk.

The other two followed them around.

2013. What a time to be alive.

As the trio was walking out, they saw Marie walking with a group of 4 other people, about to walk out. Edd was reminded of his project.

Edd told his friends to wait, and walked up to Marie, who saw him walking up to her, everyone of Marie's friends looked over. They were talking before, but they went quiet when he came over.

"Hey Marie." Edd said, waving at her as he approached her with a friendly smile.

"Hiya, Double D." said Marie. Looking at Edd, smiling.

"So, regarding our project. Let's meet up at my house tomorrow if you don't have any plans. Or yours. Up to you." said Edd, as he scratched his head, looking at the school tile.

"Sure. Let's do your house, mine is too messy." said Marie. A light smile on her face.

"Of course. What time?" asked Edd, looking at Marie.

"Uhm... Like noon is fine, I guess. You want me to bring anything?" asked Marie.

"We'll discuss. I can pick you up from your home if you would prefer." said Edd.

"Thanks, I'll walk. Short few minute walk." said Marie.

"Okay, sorry to you all for keeping Marie for a bit. You can go to tend to your businesses now." said Edd to everyone.

"Great. I'll see you then, Marie." said Edd as he began stepping back to Ed and Eddy. Waving goodbye to Marie.

"Okay. See you, Double D." said Marie as she raised her hands and waved goodbye with her fingers.

Ed, Edd n' Eddy began walking out of school. Marie then turned back to her group, and almost all of them were smiling at her.

Ensue the barrage of teasing and friendly bantering, which actually got to Marie, and she told them to stop entirely, no more teasing. Displaying her assertive manner.

Seems like they're gonna stop. Marie hopes they actually do.

The 3 Eds reach Edd's car.

"Marie and her.. edgy friends. Seems like you had a pretty nice conversation with her." said Eddy, looking at the group as they head away.

"Well, all we talked about was plans to meet up tomorrow to work on our assignment." said Edd as he clicked the button on his car key. A single beeping noise emits from the car as it flashes the headlights once.

"Oh. Meet up where?" asked Eddy as he walked towards the passenger seat door.

"My house." said Edd as he opened his car door and got in.

Ed opened the backseat door.

"Oh." said Eddy as he opens Edd's car door and got in.

"That's cool." said Ed as he sat down.

"Sure." said Edd as he strapped his seatbelt.

"Have you talked to any other Kankers?" asked Eddy as he also strapped in.

"Not yet. I would love to catch up with them also." said Edd as he turned on the car.

"How different is she from before?" asked Eddy. Already strapped.

"The obvious difference I had observed was that she isn't an aggressive bully anymore." said Edd.

"Really?" asked Ed.

"Yeah." said Edd, as he began to pull out of the school parking lot.

"That's great, I expected them to just stay a bully, stuck in misery, or something." said Eddy as he stared out of the window.

"Don't expect the worst from people, Eddy." said Edd as he began to drive out.

"Ask Ed. Ed, what did you think they were gonna turn out?" said Eddy, turning back to look at Ed.

"Uhm.. I don't know..." said Ed, looking down.

"Whatever." said Eddy, as he turned back to look out the window.

Then Ed, Edd, and Eddy went home.

As the 3 reached the cul-de-sac, they went to Ed's basement to relax. This was routine, every evening after school, they'd spend some time there as it has many entertainment devices, PS3, comic books, cool movies, all on a big TV, and a comfortable couch. Ed was proud of what he had done with his room with the help of his friends. Eddy was drawn. Edd chooses to be there as he enjoys the company of his two best friends.

"Dude, Ed, PLEASE! Help me get my stuff back!" said Eddy, with his laptop on his lap, sitting on Ed's bed.

"It takes time to get out of the mines, Eddy." said Ed, playing on his computer.

"It's gonna frickin' go away!" said Eddy, his voice clenching, staring fiercely at his laptop.

"Just take some stuff from the chest and go, Eddy." said Ed.

"Alright, I have completed my homework." said Edd as he stood up and put his notebook in his bag, and pulled out his laptop.

"About time, Double D, join quick and help me get my stuff back." said Eddy.

"It takes time to power up my device and the game, and connecting to the server, Eddy." said Edd as he powered on his laptop, walking to sit on the couch, which was set next to the bed, facing the TV. Which was once a desk ruled by Baron O' Beefdip, who has been set on the coffee table that stands between the couch and the TV.

"God damn it!" said Eddy.

DINGDONG Ed's house bell rang.

"Our pizza!" said Ed as he enthusiastically got out of his chair.

Ed ran to grab the money everyone had gathered and paid for their part of the pizza on the desk. He runs out of the basement.

"My stuff is gone by now. Whatever." said Eddy as he scoffed and half-lidded his eyes.

"Heh." exclaimed Edd as he watched his laptop continue to boot up.

Silence for a few seconds.

"Eddy." said Edd, turning to look at Eddy.

"What?" said Eddy, looking at Edd, then back to the laptop.

"Do you still hold grudges against the Kankers?" said Edd, looking at Eddy. He was curious as he felt Eddy might still hold a negative view of the 3 sisters. So he asked, to understand Eddy and his opinions.

"I mean. I don't know. They made our life a living hell years ago. So?! What do you think?" said Eddy, narrowing his eyes at Edd.

"I don't believe they've been mischievous in quite some time." said Edd, turning back to stare at his laptop as it continued trying to boot up.

Silence.

"I did talk to Marie, and she does appear to be more grown up, as I've stated." said Edd.

"Sure, sure, people can change. I get it, Edd. I just can't know for sure until I actually talk with them. And I mean you only talked to Marie, who knows about the other two?" said Eddy.

"Valid point, Eddy. But if Marie has, the others might have too." said Edd, turning back to look at Eddy.

"Who knows? I believe that Marie seems changed to you, Edd. To you." said Eddy, looking at Edd before returning to focus on his game.

"She has. I don't doubt my belief." said Edd, shrugging.

"I can't be sure until I talk to her and her sisters, alright?" said Eddy, looking at Edd.

"I understand." said Edd, turning back to look at his laptop that has finished starting.

Ed came down the stairs, holding a large box of pizza as he set it on the coffee table.

"Smells really good, right guys?" said Ed, with his signature wide goofy smile, looking at Edd and Eddy for approval.

"Certainly." said Edd as he set his laptop aside and reached for the box.

They ate pizza, gamed, and that was it for their night.

After a few hours hanging out at Ed's house, Edd and Eddy had to go home, so they walked together, Eddy getting to his house first and Edd having to cross the cul-de-sac back to his home.

Reaching his house, Edd took his shoes off as he went up to his room, hanging his bag and putting his laptop bag on the desk. Edd wraps a towel around his waist as he goes to shower. After he finished, he went back to his room and wears his yellow pajamas, getting into bed by the time of 9 PM.

For Marie, she went home at 9 PM after a day of hanging out at her friend's house.

Marie walked through the lane, crossing the community bridge that connects the lane to the trailer park. It was dark, so she quickly headed straight to her trailer. Reaching it, after stepping up to the door, she reaches for her key as she inserts it into the door and opens it.

The door opens as May stands in front of Marie, arms crossed, wearing her white one-piece pajamas. She had heard the footsteps and stepped up to greet Marie in.

"Hi, Marie." says May as she steps back to let Marie walk in.

"Yo." Marie says as she enters the trailer, closing the door behind her softly.

"Another night out?" asked May, looking at Marie.

"Yep." said Marie as she walked towards the staircase.

"Lee and Mom is sleeping, be extra quiet." said May as she followed Marie.

Marie rubbed both her eyes as the TV was shining brightly.

"What are you doing up?" asked Marie, turning back to look at May.

"I'm not sleepy, so I'm just watching whatever is on TV." said May as she walked to the couch, sitting down.

"I'm gonna go take a shower." said Marie as she went upstairs to the shared room.

Marie followed her usual routine, coming downstairs in one towel wrapped around her as she took a 20-minute shower. Marie goes upstairs to put on her pajamas. Years old yellow shirt with a blurry band album cover on it. Is the blur on purpose? She went back downstairs and sat down on the couch with May on her left.

"You ain't going to bed?" said May, turning away from the screen briefly to look at Marie.

"Nah." replied Marie as she laid back on the couch.

Nothing but the low sound of the TV filled the living room.

May laughed because of what was on screen. Marie lightly chuckled.

The two continued to sit in silence watching the TV together Until whatever was on screen was cut to commercials.

"You remember Ed, Edd, and Eddy?" said Marie, looking at May.

"What about them?" asked May as she raised her eyebrows, turning to look at Marie.

"I got paired up with Double D for an assignment." said Marie, turning back to stare at the ceiling, playing with her hair.

"That's nice. How is he now?" asked May, turning back to look at the TV.

"He hasn't changed. Same old... smart guy that he is." said Marie. "Adorable dork" was what she was about to say at first before deciding to switch at the last moment.

"Good to know. I wonder if big Ed's any different." said May, still staring at the TV, though she wasn't focused on what was airing.

"What? You still like him?" asked Marie, turning back to look at May.

"I mean... He got taller... and.." said May, thinking about her answer.

"And?" said Marie, staring at May anticipating an answer.

"Maybe...?" answered May, after some hesitation.

Ed has always been the man of her dreams, and that has never changed. After she grew out of bullying, Ed was always still in her mind, she'd look at him whenever she could. She contemplated actually building a relationship with Ed after all the bullying had stopped, much like Marie.

She had genuinely asked him out months after their run-in with Eddy's brother, but Ed took it as another beating, and he ran. She had tried this multiple times, actually. But he has always feared her. Painful. Her sisters were unaware of this.

She tried to think of alternative ways to get him to fall for her, but none seemed good enough. Eventually, she stopped trying after a year or so. She has learnt to keep this from her sisters as they seem to mock her for it. Well, until now, it hasn't been brought up in so long, so why not?

"Maybe?" asked Marie.

"I still think he's handsome." said May, leaning forward, looking at the floor.

"Really?" said Marie, a little surprised. She thought May would've moved on.

"Yeah, of course I still like big Ed." said May, as she leaned back on the couch.

"So why aren't you making a move?" asked Marie, turning her body entirely to face May, fully engaged in the conversation.

"I- I don't know how. He's so scared of me." said May, looking down at her stomach.

"I think Double D is cool with me, so Ed could be cool to you also, I think." said Marie, resting her head on her left hand.

"No. You're lucky cause it's Double D, he's smart. He's always been the one talking to us." said May as she played around with her zipper.

"Well.. maybe." said Marie.

"Hmph, you're really lucky, Marie, you know." said May.

"Sure." said Marie as she turned back to face the TV.

Silence as they stared back at the screen for a few minutes.

"Oh, also. Tomorrow, can you cover my laundry for me?" said Marie, glancing over at May for a split second.

"Why?" asked May, raising her eyebrows.

"I'm going out.. to work on my assignment with Double D." said Marie.

"...For real?" said May, looking at Marie, narrowing her eyes.

"What? Please? I'll do yours next week." said Marie, looking back at May to plead.

"Fine. The way you said that feels like you tried rubbing it on me." said May.

"Rubbing what?" asked Marie, as she raised one of her eyebrows.

"That you get to spend time with your Ed. I'm jealous, y'know." said May, turning back to the screen.

"Whatever. I don't even see Double D that way anymore." said Marie as she turned back to the screen.

"What? Really?" said May, turning back to look at Marie with surprise written on her face.

"... Obviously. We're not kids anymore." said Marie, shrugging.

"I thought you liked him this entire time." said May, after believing her sister would share her feelings. She slowly turned back to look at the TV.

"Jeez, sorry for not making that clear." said Marie, rolling her eyes.

"Tsk- Shut your mouth." said May as she sneered at Marie for a split second.

An hour later and a few small talks about what they're watching on TV, May and Marie both eventually fell asleep on the couch. With the TV turned on.

Commotion is heard, footsteps, the trailer slightly shaking. This slightly awakened May. But she tries to go back to sleep quickly. She is cut off as her body is shook awake, by someone's hands.

May opens her eyes to see her mother.
