Full credit to Taylor Swift and the genius that she is, really inspired me. I don't know if anyone will actually read this but if you follow and or review I'll keep it going!

"Cause the sign on your heart said it's still reserved for me. Honestly who are we to fight the alchemy?" blared through the speakers as she drove down that very road she had driven a million times before. The only difference was this was the first time in about 5 years. So many things had changed, businesses were closed, new housing popped up. You know, the things you expect to happen when you've been gone this long.

Not that it made it sting any less as the brunette gripped the steering wheel. With just her old rucksack in the seat next to her she sighed approaching the parking lot of the high school reunion she had told herself over the years she would never be going to but she couldn't break the promise she had made to her friends all those years ago. Luckily Rosewood wasn't one of those places you needed to worry about people breaking into your car and getting away with it. Everyone knew everyone. That was one way to summarize the town.

Emily turned the key in the ignition into the off position of her black and white Jeep rubicon. Of course it had stickers all over the windows from the places she had been, places she wished she could forget. From one as simple that reads "US Army" to locations like "Kuiat" and "Afghanistan" Stepping out of the Jeep her feet hit the pavement underneath her dress uniform boots. This was a special occasion, she was allowed to wear the garments and show the pride she still had from serving her country. Sure she only had a short two weeks, well ten days total of leave but here she was.

Rolling her hands over the creases left from the drive she found herself at the entrance table. Stating her name she sighed "Fields, Em—." Her words cut short as the person behind the table was someone she wasn't sure would actually be here, Spencer. "Emily!" She exclaimed before wrapping her arms around Emily. With a laugh and maybe even an escaped tear or two a smile filled Emily's face. "Oh my god you're actually here—you know we had a bet going on if you'd actually be able to come or not, Ms Solider" Rolling her eyes she shook her head "Very funny, I remember making a promise at a sleep over when we were ten…I don't break promises"

That was when she heard the faintest voice, sounding almost like it was breaking as the woman said her name "Em…" Turning her head she could feel her heart drop into her stomach. "Alison…" Emily could feel her breath catch in her throat. "You really should go talk to her Em, I know it's hard—" Spinning back towards Spencer Emily sighed "Yeah, I'll go do that. Find me later?" With a nod from Spencer she was off in the direction of someone who had broken her heart over and over again.

——Flashback——

"You're joining the army? What happened to us going to college in California?" Tears slowly fell from the blondes eyes as she shook her head. "When were you going to tell me?" Emily couldn't find the words, while yea they had talked about this it hadn't been a sure thing until that afternoon. "Answer me Emily!" The sharpness of the way Alison said her name almost hurt more than the whole situation at hand. "What were you planning on breaking up with me and just leaving?"

Running a hand through her hair Emily approached Alison. "Baby, no…I just thought you were okay with this…you said you'd still be with me?" Alison looked out the window, unable to look Emily in the eyes. "Just because I said that doesn't mean I'm actually okay with it…" her voice became weak as Emily wrapped her arms around her. "Please…don't—just stop. Go play solder. I'm sure you'll find some woman out there and take her home"

"Damn it Alison, you were supposed to be the one. Don't do this, don't give up on us. We are supoosed to be endgame..."

-End Flashback-

The memory flooded Emily's mind, there was no way it wasn't filling Alison's mind also. Approaching her Emily took a deep breath, several actually. "You look great—I see you haven't changed a bit" Emily smiled for just a moment. That was until he showed up, wrapping an arm around Alison's waist hugging her even tighter than the silver dresses that lie against her skin. "You've got to be fucking kidding me" Emily laughed throwing her head back. "Guess we won't talk. See ya…"

Of course she was hurt but Emily also wasn't stupid. She couldn't have expected Alison to be single all of this time that they had been apart. The weird part was seeing her with a man was somehow worse than if she had been dating a woman. Pulling a pack of cigarettes out of her pocket Emily brought one to her lips as she stepped outside lighting it quickly raking in a pull.

"That's gonna kill you, you know" Emily had become quite the smart ass since she graduated high school, war and PTSD would do that to a person. "There's a lot of things that should have killed me—a cancer stick isn't going to do it." Shaking her head as smoke billowed out of her mouth. Turning to see who had spoken to her she realized it was Hanna. The one person she had actually put time into staying connected to but for some reason her voice hadn't registered. "Oh my god I'm sorry…I ran into—someone." Hugging her blonde best friend tightly she didn't have to say anything out loud for her to understand.

"Emily, please we need to talk." That was Hanna's queue. "I'll go grab you a beer, or six…" she muttered softly before flashing a relatively fake smile to Alison. Emily continued to smoke her cigarette, she needed that sense of calm. "Em you know that can kill—" Putting up a hand the tanned skinned woman collected herself "If one more person says this can kill me Im gonna argue at least I'm not sucking on flavored air."

Alison put her hands up in defeat "I'm sorry you're right. We're all adults. You're welcome to consume whatever it is you choose." Emily was able to contain her composure for as long as she figured this conversation could go. The army at least helped her learn when she should and could hide her emotions. "It's good to see you, I'm sorry about Aiden…he just knows our story and he's quite jealous." Emily presents a nonchalant facial expression as she shrugs "Not my problem, besides he needs to let things go. It's been what four years?"

"Em—just let me talk for one fucking second" This really caught Emily off guard. Never in their almost 4 years of dating did she ever speak this way to her except for that night… Emily was reluctant but decided to hear her out "Look I know how we left things and I just wanted to say I'm sorry. The way things happened was my fault, I shouldn't have tried to take you away from doing what you wanted to do. I know how stupid this sounds now but maybe we can have lunch or something soon? How long do you get to stay for?"

Emily took another drag before throwing the now butt of her cigarette onto the ground. "I really appreciate that, I know it's big to admit when you're wrong…"
