(Lighting strikes; quick flash to reveal a sign that reads " Echo Creek Public Library") (Inside, a boy is seen shaking his head; pan over to the "X", "Y", and "Z" shelves; Marco is seen getting a book; Star's pigtails slide in from the left and to the right; cut to a shelf with books; Star's pigtails slide in behind) (Cut back to a view of the shelves; Marco is at the rear getting another book; Star's's pigtails slide in from the right and to the left, then back again) (At the bookshelf; Marco gets the "Karate 2000" book and leaves; Star's pigtails slide from behind the books) (As Marco goes to a chair, Star's shadow is seen running from one shelf to the other; Marco cracks open the book and starts reading; Star slides in from the bottom mouth agape)
Star: HI, MARCO! (Marco recoils, then faces Star; she gets near him while holding a book with a cover that reads "magic")
Marco: *whispering* Star, what are you doing here?
Star: I gots me a book on magic! Wanna see? (She opens the book and shows him two pages of ponies and magic)
Marco: *whispering* I have no time for magic. I am all reading for karate! Now beat it.
Star: What?
Marco: *whispering, jumping up in anger* Star, will you stop being so loud and get your book and get lost?!
Star: What? Speak up!
Marco: *whispering, again jumping up in anger* Star, will you quit yelling? This is a library! You are to keep quiet! (He lands then walks away; Star gives a side glance then shrugs; wipe up to Marco and Star heading to the checkout counter)
Marco: *whispering* Now Star, the head librarian is checking out books today, so will you please show some respect and keep your mouth shut? (They stop simultaneously; Star grabs the back of Marco's hoodie then points at his nose)
Star: Oh, yeah? Well, why should I?
Marco: *whispering* Because Star, I have a reputation to uphold. For you see, I have been patron of the month for the past twelve months! (Cut to a top-down view; pan up to reveal a picture of Marco wearing a white dress shirt with a black bowtie; he is seen smiling)
Marco: *whispering* So if you would shut up, clam up, button your lip, close your cake-hole, and please be quiet so that everything will be hunky dory, okay? Now, come on! (He scurries off to the left; Star looks at him cluelessly)
Star: Okay! (Cut to the checkout counter; Ms. L, the librarian, is seen sitting contently; a tall shadow looms over her and she whistles; Marco drops the stack of books on her counter)
Marco: *whispering* Here are my selections for today, Ms. L.
Ms. L: My, my, Marco. What a big stack you have. Why, Marco, you're quite the little scholar. (She pinches Marco's cheek; he turns away shyly)
Marco: *whispering* Aw, shucks.
Star: *slapping cheek* Oh, brother. (Ms. L starts checking out the books)
Ms. L: You know, if you keep this reading up, you'll be the patron of the month all of next year to (Star reaches her hand up the stack of books and takes one of them down)
Ms. L: No television, no donuts for you. I bet it's just all study, study, study day and night. Well, Marco, I think you're all set. There you go. (She gives Marco his stack of checked out books; he leaves; Star looks at the book she took)
Marco: *whispering* Thank you, Ms. L. Come on, Star.
Star: Hey, Marco! There's no pictures in this book!
Marco: *whispering, offscreen* Star! Come on!
Star: But you forgot...
Marco: *whispering, offscreen* Star!
Star: You forgot to check out!
Marco: *whispering, offscreen* Move it or lose it, Star! (Fade to Marco's room ; two giant stacks of books are seen; pan down to Marco reading and writing one of them)
Marco: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. (He yawns; Star pops up behind him)
Star: Hey, Marco! Here's that book you forgot! (She places the book on Marco's head; he takes it down and opens it)
Marco: Why, thank you, Star. (He opens the book)
Marco: More learning material...? (He gasps and looks at the library stamp)
Marco: No stamp?! This book has been illegally checked out! (Zoom in to Marco's conscious; Marco is standing in front of a tall checkout counter with Ms. L, who is seen from the top, crying; her head then flies around Marco; finally, Ms. L's head grows to immense size, towering over Marco)
Ms. L: Oh, Marco! How could you? Your actions have brought shame upon this library! For this, you shall be punished! You're banned from the library... FOREVER! (She takes out a stamp with the word "BANNED" on it and hits Marco in his head; he falls off the counter and to a deeper part of his subconscious, where many voices mock and ridicule Marco; he falls into a book that reads Dante's Inferno, inside the book, Marco lands on a book-like couch and is slapped by a red hand; a devil is seen laughing at him)
Devil: Welcome to library heck. (He laughs evilly; back in reality, Marco is seen in a corner while his stacks of books loom over him; the devil's laugh trails off)
Marco: The book must be returned. Just do it! (He grabs a pair of goggles, activates a bibliograph, and prepares a suction gun)
Marco: Mission goggles, bibliograph, ultra suction cracker... (He turns to point his suction toward the screen a lá James Bond; lightning strikes to the public library; it is nighttime) (Cut to the rooftop; Marco appears from the flash of lightning wearing a black bodysuit then sneaks off to the left; Star appears from the ladder wearing a bodysuit too; she flips, hops, and jumps over to Marco; she spins on one foot then stops)
Marco: Are you quite finished? (Star nods "Yes"; Marco shows her some rope)
Marco: Now I am going in. You just lower me down on this rope and I return the book. And remember: This is a library mission, so keep quiet!
Star: *loudly, making "OK" hand sign* Okey dokey! (Marco looks away annoyed and sighs)
Marco: Hold this. (He hands Star one end of the rope and dives into the library; Marco quickly grabs the rope to slow his fall)
Star: Back sure hurts! (A butterfly flies in from the left; Star is dazzled by it; inside the library, Marco comes to a stop)
Star: Pretty. (She lets go of the rope and chases after the butterfly; inside the library, Marco, still suspended in mid-air, watches as the rope falls down)
Marco: Star? (He starts running in mid-air, but ends up dropping to the floor; wipe to the bibliograph; it points straight; the blue rectangle lights up with "FOUND!" written on it; Marco looks at the lobby straight ahead and chuckles; he sneaks between the shelves to get there) (At the checkout counter, Marco stops and thinks for a moment; he takes out his goggles and puts them on; the lasers are activated) (Marco prepares to evade the lasers; cut to the next scene; he is seen walking underneath them while whistling along to the background music; at the counter, he wipes sweat off his head and places the book in the return bin; Star suddenly pops out)
Star: Hi!
Marco: *quietly* Star How did you...? Wha...? How did you get...? That's it! I've had it with your princess business!
Star: But... (Marco is full of frustration)
Marco: QUIET! (His voice echoes throughout the library; cut to a wall; three red sound waves are seen hitting the poster, which slides up to reveal a noise alarm)
Computerized voice: *whispering* Warning. Noise level exceeded. (Cut back to Marco and Star, the former realizing the mistake he made)
Marco: Whoops. (Ms. L enters the library)
Ms. L: Intruders! (Two large, burly men, named "Thug 1" and "Thug 2" respectively, walk up behind Ms. L)
Ms. L: Sic 'em, boys! (Marco and Star run away; Thug 1 and Thug 2 chase them) (At a wall with multiple drawers, Thug 1 enters from the left, stops, then scratches his head; one of the drawers slide out to reveal Star; she and Thug 1 look at each other and Star quickly retreats; as Thug 1 looks inside, another drawer opens with Marco sliding out; he retreats and Thug 1 looks inside; beneath that drawer, Star slides out and blows a raspberry at him; he looks there while Marco appears in a drawer behind him and whistles at Thug 1; at this point, Thug 1 becomes frustrated and looks at the wall of drawers; out of nowhere, Star and Marco hop out of his back pants pockets as if the pockets themselves were drawers) (Marco and Star run through the library while Thug 2 tails them; at a table, Marco and Star are seen reading newspapers; Thug 2 runs by then runs off to the left; Marco and Star look up, shake hands, look to their lefts, then run off) (Cut to another aisle; Thug 2 is on the lookout for Marco and Star, who both suddenly walk by disguised as books; Marco has a mint green book cover that reads "Infinite Theory" while Star has a pink book cover that reads "Ballet History", the latter is also seen in her everyday clothing)
Marco: Yep, just books. Judge us by our looks 'cause we're just plain ol' books! (Thug 2 looks bewildered and shrugs; cut to a bookshelf; Marco and Star run in and stop; Marco looks out for them)
Marco: I think we lost them.
Star: Marco, I'm tired of this game. I quit playing.
Marco: "Quit"? What do you mean "quit"? It is too late for "quitsies" now! We must fight! (Star grabs Marco's back and drags him with her)
Marco: No...! (Cut to Ms. L and Thugs 1 and 2; Marco and Star are seen on the other end; Star is waving)
Star: Hey! Librari-ann! We quit! You win!
Marco: Traitor!
Ms. L: What? Why, Star, thank you for apprehending your loudmouth friend. I see good things in your future. *to Marco, unhappily* And as for you, Mr. Diaz... (Marco grumbles to himself and shakes; fade to Marco reading Star and several other kids a story)
Marco: And so, after Prince asked Mr. Grumpster to leave nicely, everyone in Snuggleville gave each other a warm, fuzzy hug. The end. ...Blech. (Pan up to a picture of Star as the library patron of the month.)
