Chapter One- Penny
The Governor's POV
Penny, my daughter, entered the world on October 11th, 2013. Upon meeting her gaze, I was immediately struck by her deep brown eyes and understood the true meaning of love. I had loved my wife Sarah, but the love for our daughter was different.
It was completely unconditional.
The automobile accident that claimed the life of my wife was a tragedy, but losing Penny shattered me. My wife's passing left me with only Penny. But after Penny was bitten, I had no one. I kept her alive in the zombie-like form longer than I should have. My second in command, Martinez, finally convinced me I had to put Penny down for her own good. I knew that Penny wasn't there anymore, but letting her go took everything out of me. I had nothing and any human left in me was gone.
I found Andrea on the same day and if it hadn't been for her, I might have killed myself. During a supply run with my men, I came across two beautiful blonde women lying on the ground. It felt like a sign to me, a second chance to have a wife. One girl was pregnant, and I felt she was the one for me. As soon as our eyes met, she passed out, and I knew she was close to death. I had Martinez take the younger sister with him while I put the pregnant woman in the truck with me. The younger girl was screaming and begging us to leave her alone. I ignored her pleads. In the past I would have at least tried to calm her but my heart was too cold to care.
I separated the girls immediately, even though the younger one was begging me not to take away her sister. I knew that they were out there together alone for several months and separating them would be to my advantage. Besides, my wife belonged in my apartment, sick or not.
