The Cheaterthon

At Darkley's Boarding School, Lloyd and Melissa were sitting in the classroom while their teacher was giving a lesson about something bad while some of the other classmates were looking a bit bored or paying attention.

"Chad really can't stop showboating, can't he?" Lloyd asked.

"What did you expect, it's Chad. He even has a poster of himself in his bunk." Melissa pointed out.

"Fair point." Lloyd said with a nod. "Although yesterday Chad nearly stole my outfit when I was taking a shower just so I could streak naked throughout the class."

"Yeah. Be lucky I didn't see you when you told me." Melissa said with a slight blush of awkwardness. "That was classic prank 101. Chad really went out of line there."

"But you did get him back, right?" Lloyd asked.

"Tried to. But ended up being stuck in a locker for an hour." Melissa said with a frown. "Luckily there was a hanger inside for me to unlock his locker, his combination to his locker is pretty predictable though."

"Mind telling me?" Lloyd asked.

"The combination is…" Melissa stopped herself to swallow some puke coming out of her mouth. "Chad is awesome."

Lloyd gave a snort laughter. "Seriously, Chad's ego is as big as that hair of his." He joked.

"Yeah, Hey Jimmy Neutron, brain blast!" Melissa quipped as the two shared a quiet laugh before Melissa frowned. "Lloyd, aren't you tired of being treated this way to the whole school?"

"I've got notes." Lloyd answered her. "Been like this since I was brought here."

Melissa then gave a small smile. "Hey, maybe we'll prove ourselves to the school together. Who knows, maybe your father will come in and blast a hole in the wall to teach them a lesson." She quipped.

"Heh, I would really like to see that." Lloyd said with a chuckle.

Just then, the speaker beeped. "Attention, all classes, Principal Darkley's would like to give an announcement." The intercom spoke up to the whole class.

"Principal Darkley has an announcement?" Melissa asked in confusion. "What do you think it is?"

"Who knows? Maybe a special assignment or something?" Lloyd asked as Darkley then spoke up.

"Good afternoon, my fellow school. I'm sorry for the interruption, but I happen to notice that you all have been working hard on your assignments and thought I would give you a special award." Darkley spoke up, which made the students chattered in excitement as their teacher shushed them quietly. "So, I thought of a little fun activity. Tomorrow, there will be no work, all classes are off because tomorrow is the Darkley's Cheaterthon!" He announced, which made everyone cheered in excitement. "My fellow students, a high cheating race all across Darkley's, no rules and cheating is allowed, let's all see which competitors prove that they are more than meets the eye." He finished.

Lloyd cheered at that while everyone else cheered next while Melissa looked on with a thoughtful smile.

Later that night, every classmate was asleep in their bonks as they were sound asleep. But at the boy's bunk, Melissa sneakingly tiptoed across the room as she then walked up to Lloyd's bunk as she opened the door quietly to see him sleeping.

"Lloyd. Psst. Hey, Lloyd." Melissa whispered, but Lloyd was still asleep as she quietly went towards him and tapped him a bit. But Lloyd was still asleep before Melissa then plugged his nose, which made Lloyd puff up as he then woke up with a startled gasp.

"Eh, what's up doc?!" Lloyd said a bit loud which made Melissa instantly cover his mouth and looked around the room to see that no one woke up.

"Oh, good. You're up." Melissa said casually with a smile while Lloyd gave her a look. "Come on, I have an idea."

A bit later in the middle of the night, Melissa dragged Lloyd up on the roof. "Whatever this is, it better be good." Lloyd said tiredly.

"I know. I know. Look, what if… what if, what if, tomorrow, we ran at the Cheaterthon?" Melissa suggested, while gesturing to the field around the school while Lloyd looked down before turning back to Melissa with a tired look.

"I'm going back to bed." Lloyd said before turning away.

"Nono! Hear me out, Lloyd." Melissa said to him while stopping him. "We don't even have to win the race."

"Oh, good. Because we wouldn't anyway." Lloyd shrugged.

"But, but if we beat just one of our classmates, it proves we're just as good as they are." Melissa said with a smile. "Not only will we go down in Darkley's history, but the dishings, the bullying, being treated like an outcast, we would show everyone in school that we're just as bad as they are if we cheat them off."

"Or we might get really humiliated and busted back to page one." Lloyd said hopelessly.

"Well, yeah, that. But at least we would've done something, you know." Melissa optimistically said.

"Melissa." Lloyd started.

"Come on, Lloyd. We can--" Melissa tried to say.

"Melissa." Lloyd said a bit loudly as Melissa stopped as he spoke. "Trust me, I've been here longer than you have. We're just not as bad as the other classmates, yet. And right now, I doubt a simple race would do that sooner. Come on, let's go." He said as he walked back down while Melissa sighed.

"Fine. Maybe you're right, Lloyd." Melissa said hopelessly as she looked up at the night sky as the stars sparkled. "Maybe." She muttered while giving a determined look.

The next morning, Darkley had already set up the goods for the Cheaterthon as some were having a fun time playing ball or frisbee while there were some BBQ setups cooking food while some of the classmates were getting ready for the race while Melissa and Lloyd were tailing behind.

"The Cheaterthon is finally here!" Lloyd said in excitement. "Even though it's cheating, it's always fun to watch."

"You got that right." Melissa said in agreement before turning to the left. "Now, follow me."

"Where are you going?" Lloyd asked with a brow. "The race is that way." He pointed ahead.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. Follow me, I have a surprise." Melissa said as Lloyd sighed.

"Great. We're gonna be late now." Lloyd muttered as he followed after Melissa. "I wanted good seats before they were taken." He complained.

"It's a BBQ, Lloyd." Melissa said dully.

"Yeah, but they always take the good seats and sometimes we have to sit behind a dumpster to eat." Lloyd pointed out. "We were lucky to even get seats at the right time during lunch time."

"Look, just trust me, you're gonna love what I have planned." Melissa told him as she kept leading on for some time.

"Okay, where exactly are you taking me, Melissa?" Lloyd asked.

"If I told you then it wouldn't be a surprise now would it?" Melissa answered with a smirk. "Although, I would advise taking your shoes off for this."

"Uhh, why?" Lloyd asked in confusion.

"Just trust me. I'll tell you later." Melissa said as Lloyd did just that.

"Seriously, for what?" Lloyd asked.

"Don't be a wart. Trust me, it will all be worth it." Melissa said as she then turned a corner.

"Hey, you don't be a wart." Lloyd countered as he kept following.

"Good comeback Lloyd." Melissa said with a smirk.

"Look, I know this is like fun for you, for joking around, which I also do half the time, but if you make me miss the Cheaterthon, I swear I'll lose it and I'll--" Lloyd trailed off as he turn and saw something that made his jaw dropped at what he saw while Melissa kept her smirk.

What they were seeing was that they were by the bushes as they saw the starting race tracks while up a small hill just over the race. "Welcome to the Cheaterthon! And look, today's competitors are taking the field!" An announcer called while some of the racers then got ready to race while doing some stretches.

"Oooh! Look at this! We've never been this close before! It's like I'm in the race." Lloyd said in excitement before he slowly turned to Melissa, who kept her smile. "You did this for me?"

"You are my best friend, Lloyd." Melissa told him with a smile. "I thought that you might like this, after the bullying you have received over the years I feel like you deserved this." She said while raising a hand for a high five.

Lloyd smiled at that. "Thanks Melissa." He said before he high fived her as they watched the race.

Just then, everyone quieted down, which made Lloyd and Melissa turn and saw that Principle Darkley was walking up stage as he walked up to the microphone. "Thank you all for coming today. I would like to say that it is good for you all to come to the Cheaterthon. The one time of year where we have our fun, and it doesn't matter who wins as long as they cheat to win." Darkley said to them with a smile. "Now remember, the rules are there are no rules. Now racers, take your marks!" He called as the racers stood ready.

"I can't believe we get to watch from this close to the starting line! The best seats in the house!" Lloyd said in excitement, before he felt something on his feet as he looked down and saw Melissa tying up some roller skates, which she has a pair on as well. "Why did you bring roller skates?" He asked in confusion.

"Get set!" Darkley continued.

"It's time to show them we do belong in the School." Melissa said with a smirk. "And that we are more than meets the eye."

Lloyd's eyes widened in realization at what Melissa was planning. "Oh no." He muttered.

"Go!" Darkley finished, which made the racers take off, which made Melissa push Lloyd downhill as they were in front of the race while Melissa held Lloyd's hand as the son of the dark lord screamed as they roller skated across the path while some racers went by them.

"Are you crazy?!" Lloyd asked Melissa in disbelief.

"Sure feels like it!" Melissa joked as she pushed Lloyd by her as he skated ahead a bit as she followed after him. "Woo-hoo!"

Darkley watches the race start before he notices something as he sees two familiar students. "I'm sorry. Is that Lloyd Garmadon and Melissa Zhau in the race?" He asked as he turned to his computer monitor where some cameras were set up to monitor the race.

The other viewers all chattered in surprise at seeing Lloyd and Melissa at the race because of their reputation in the school. "What?! Lloyd and Melissa?!" Brad asked as he, Gene and a few others watched.

"They can't even do evil right!" Gene added while they saw the race through the screens as well.

Melissa and Lloyd kept skating while moving past some racers while some were either knocked away or fell down as the two avoided them. "If we survive this, I'm gonna kill you!" Lloyd shouted while giving a look to Melissa.

"I accept those odds!" Melissa said with a smirk as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a few Lego bricks and threw some on the ground behind her and the rest to the racers ahead of them, which made them yell in pain as they fell down. "I owe you for those Lego pieces!"

"More like a thousand!" Lloyd called as he and Melissa kept skating while Darkley eyed them through the monitors. "I can't believe we're not in last PPPLLLAAACCCEEE!!!!!!!" He shouted as he and Melissa rolled down a big steep hill that gave them speed.

Just then, Chad came by and brought out his skateboard and rode it. "Eat it, brats!" He called as he nudged Lloyd, which made him spin before Melissa quickly caught him to keep him steady as they rolled down before entering a path with boulders around while some racers unexpectedly hit them.

"We're not fast enough!" Lloyd called out.

"Improvise by using the racers to give us a push!" Melissa called as she then grabbed a racer and yanked herself forward to give her some speed while the racer fell down with a yelp. "This is a Cheaterthon, so let's cheat to win!"

"YYeah, good call!" Lloyd called as he grabbed a racer.

"Hey! Let go!" The racer called.

"Sorry, have a race to win!" Lloyd called as he yanked himself forward while grabbing one racer at a time to gain some speed. "Sorry, just passing through!"

Melissa then sees a racer catching up to her, so she straightened up her arm out in front of her and caught him before the racer noticed her. "Get off!" The racer shouted as he yanked free, causing Melissa to lose her balance as she rolled across the path before Lloyd caught her as they continued skating.

"The competition is pretty stiff!" Lloyd said to her.

"Well, you know, we just need to move it along!" Melissa said as they then saw many racers ahead of them as they needed to get ahead of them as Melissa looked around for something to give them the boost they needed or a shortcut. "Lloyd, follow me!" She said as she turned right.

"Wait, where are you going?!" Lloyd asked as he followed her right up a tall hill.

"We needed more speed than the others! So, the tallest hill, plus gravity, equals a boost!" Melissa called as they looked down. "Now, let's do this!"

"This girl is trying to kill me." Lloyd muttered before Melissa then pushed them down, which made Lloyd scream as they went downhill much faster as they felt the wind pushing their cheeks from the force.

Chad was in the lead as he gave a victorious smirk, but then Lloyd and Melissa zoomed by him. "Hey!" He called as he lost his balance and fell to the floor as he tumbled across the ground and glared at Melissa and Lloyd. "Grrr! Dorks!" He yelled in rage.

"Eat it, Chad!" Melissa taunted as she and Lloyd were in the lead.

"That work! It actually worked!" Lloyd cheered with a smile.

"Is this the dumbest thing we've ever done?!" Melissa asked with a smile.

"Oh yeah! It's going up there!" Lloyd answered as they kept going.

Just then a racer grabbed a rock and threw it ahead which hit Lloyd in the leg which made him fall on the ground with a yell. "Lloyd!" Melissa called out in concern as she helped him up.

"No! Go! Leave me!" Lloyd tried to insist, but Melissa held him up.

"No! We're finishing this together!" Melissa said with determination as she held Lloyd as they were close to the finish line that was just up ahead of them while Lloyd held a leg up while Melissa kept going while using their skates as support while the crowd watched anxiously while Darkley hummed at impressiveness at the two.

Lloyd and Melissa were almost at the finish line and it looked like they were about to win, but then they were tackled down as a racer behind them went by them, making them fall to the ground as the racer crossed the finish line while skidding on his knees while giving a victorious scream as everyone cheered her.

Lloyd and Melissa then slowly got up and looked at each other. "Well, at least second place ain't that bad, right?" Melissa asked sheepishly.

But then, all the other racers went by them, which made Lloyd slowly turn to Melissa with a look while Melissa gave a sheepish smile from jixing them in losing the race in last place when they were this close to victory.
