Somehow I forgot to post this after writing it and didn't find it again until I looked through my writing tag on tumblr.
Anyway the prompt was 'Time's Up' and initially was going for angst but got this instead. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Time's Up
Evan stared. He stared for a long time.
What should he do? He never thought this would be hard. Sure, it wasn't supposed to be fun (for a lot of people anyway), but…
He sighed. He needed to make a move soon. Before -
"Your Highness," his opponent, a tactics tutor who was recently added to the teaching roster, spoke up with partially concealed amusement, "I'm afraid time is up."
"Five more minutes," complained Evan, his ears drooping.
"When you become king, there will be times where you will have less than five minutes to decide on what to do."
Evan sighed again and sullenly picked up a pawn piece and moved it forward, taking an opposing pawn out of the game.
"Very good, my Prince," smiled the tutor before taking a moment to consider his next move. He adjusted a knight to its new spot. "Your turn."
Evan nodded and proceeded to take another few minutes to make his move once more.
You can tell I didn't do any research on chess while writing this lol whoops
