Tokyo Shatterdome, 2028
Akane Yashiro was having a very nice dream. She dreamed she and her fiancé, Dobashi Hayama playing on the beaches of Okinawa. Oh, wait. That actually did happen, just last week. He had taken her to Okinawa on authorized leave for "something special" in his words. After playfully splashing each other, Dobashi would drop on his knees and pull out something that would make her heart soar: an engagement ring. He then sealed it with four words:
"Will you marry me?"
With those four words, Akane let out a squeal and wrapped her boyfriend in her arms, causing them to lose their balance and fall laughing into the surf.
That was until her dreams were immediately shattered.
"Warning, Kaiju Signature detected. Category 5. Size: 100 meters tall. Weight: 60,000 tons. Confirmation: Godzilla. Trajectory: Osaka. Jaeger Strike Team authorized. Military forces have been dispatched."
With a groan, Akane woke up and found Dobashi's embrace had lifted.
"Looks like we're being deployed." he told her, apparently having recovered from his sleep inertia.
"Wha time izzit?" Akane drawled, her voice full of sleep.
Without waiting for her fiancé's response, Akane reached over and grabbed the alarm clock. The numbers on it made her eyes widen and then narrow.
2:30 in the morning.
"Why couldn't that stupid lizard attack us in the late morning...?" Akane groaned as she kicked out her legs from her shared bed. The cold jolt of her bare feet touching the floor instantly woke her up with a yelp to the sound of crews scrambling about. Might as well get it over with.
A few minutes later, Akane and Dobashi headed down to the holding cells, having donned their olive-gray Drivesuits, their helmets held in their elbows, the Coyote Tango emblems displayed proudly on the left and right sides of their suits. They came upon the Conn-pod of Coyote Tango and entered. They were strapped into the control harnesses of the Pod; Akane took the right side, Dobashi the left.
"This is Coyote Tango," Dobashi announced. "Ready for the drop."
"Copy that,Tango,"replied one of the LOCCENT bridge bunnies, Jinshi they believed.
With that there was a sudden jolt much akin to a rapidly descending elevator as the Conn-Pod was lowered into the Jaeger's main body. There was another jolt as it connected.
"Tango, this is Marshall Taizo Tachibana," came the voice of the Shatterdome's Marshal. "Stand-by for Neural Handshake."
"Drift commencing in t-minus tenseconds." announced Samedhi, the Jaeger's on-board AI. "Ten... nine... eight... seven... six... five... four..."
"Ready to step into my head?" Akane asked slyly.
Dobashi flashed her an equally sly smirk. "Ladies first."
"Three... two... one. Commencing Drift."
Before either of them could react, memories began to rapidly flow through and towards each other as they entered Drift Space.
A birthday Mom's making a cake The first birthday without Dad he died a hero damn Godzilla damn him to Hell Susumu, you're crazy, she'll never look at me I stand corrected They dance and play in the Kwoon "She is my co-pilot" Their first kiss Their first drop in Hokkaido, punching Anguirus in the face not bad for a first date, celebrating with ramen the beaches of Okinawa, the sand beneath their toes, the spray on their faces, the ring, "Will you marry me?" The surf on their backs time to protect humanity once again
And just like that, the two were jolted out of Drift Space. Akane and Dobashi lifted their arms. From outside the Conn-pod they could see Coyote in tandem. They had become one with the machine.
"Right hemisphere calibrating." Akane announced raising her dominant arm, curling her fingers into a fist.
"Left hemisphere calibrating." Dobashi spoke, his palm open.
The two then slammed their hands together. The collision rang across the Shatterdome like a train crash. Just then, the hangar doors opened, letting in a torrent of rain into the Dome and a squadron of Jumphawks soared above. The VTOLs lowered cables with people on them. The cable operators attached the cables to the Jaeger before giving a thumbs up. With that,Coyote Tango was lifted into the air.
"Tango, you will be joined by four other Jaegers: Cherno Alpha, Striker Eureka, Gipsy Danger, and Crimson Typhoon," Marshall Tachibana told Akane and Dobashi over the communications. "The SDF has sent a platoon to distract Godzilla and people have been evacuated into shelters. Your job is to hold him in the Miracle Mile."
In other words, "survive". Akane and Dobashi were well aware that Godzilla was notorious, not just being the most feared living thing on the planet, even with the presence of more powerful Kaiju like Ghidorah, Destoroyah, and SpaceGodzilla, but because he was also a well-documented Jaeger Killer, a Kaiju with a knack for destroying more Jaegers ever since the program's early years. This was NOT something anyone would take lightly, even with the presence of veteran pilots.
Just then, from the corner of her eyes, Akane spotted a fleet of SDF jets headed for the coast, no doubt in intercept with Godzilla. On their way to die. It was a little known fact that Jaeger Rangers had a lifespan of thirty minutes against higher-up Kaiju, the military were lucky to at least get four.
Those pilots are doomed,she thought.
"They know what they signed up for, Akane," Dobashi told her. "Besides, somebody has to keep civilians safe, not just the PPDC."
"How did you...?"
"I'm in your head, Akane," Dobashi replied with a mischievous grin. "As you are in mine."
"Oh, right." Akane sighed. "Drift."
It took them thirty minutes to arrive at the drop point, by that time, four other Jaegers had already been deployed. The first that came to view was Crimson Typhoon, a Chinese Mark-4 and one of the most unique Jaegers in that, instead of a two pilot team, she had three, the Wei Tang triplets Cheung, Hu, and Jin. She had a Conn-Pod that reminded Akane of a hand-held camera with a single lens as the cockpit. She had three arms to accommodate her pilots, two smaller right arms with four fingers, and a larger, single left arm with three fingers that tripled as a buzzsaw or a retractable IB22 Plasmacaster, and the emblem of the Jaeger on the shoulder pauldron. Her legs were double jointed, giving them the appearance of canine or bird legs. Much as her name suggested, she was a rich crimson. Underneath the left side of her chest were four Chinese letters that translated into "Red Crimson Wind Violence".
The Jaeger next to her was Cherno Alpha, a veteran, military green-colored Mark-1 piloted by married couple, Sasha and Aleksis Kaidonovsky, that used to patrol the Russian coastline in her early years before being transferred to the Tokyo Shatterdome. If one were to describe Cherno with one word, it would be "tank". Everything about this Jaeger was built to be sturdy and take as many hits as she would give back. She had a very boxy build to her with large, four-fingered hands that would deliver a devastating punch with electrical discharge for an extra kick. She had an upper body that resembled a cooling tower from a nuclear power plant that served as a false head as well as housed twin flamethrowers. In the center of her chest, rested the true Conn-Pod. Unfortunately, because she was an older model Jaeger, she didn't have any escape pods, so chances were, the pilots had one of two options: bring down the Kaiju and live to see another day, or die.
Next was Gipsy Danger, a Mark-3 Jaeger, piloted by the Beckett brothers, Raleigh and Yancy. While Coyote Tango invoked images of battleships and combat helicopters,Gipsy, with her faded baby blue paint-job and decals and retro-styled humanoid build, invoked images of old WWII bombers, especially the Enola Gay.Her Conn-Pod was rounded with a yellow-tinted visor. Massive pauldrons on her back added to her imposing visage.
Finally, there was Striker Eureka, one of the most recently built Jaegers as well as the first of the Mark-5's to be built with a strange technology left behind by a race known as the "Ancestrals". Because of this,Striker stood out the most among the gathered Jaegers, looking like a factory fresh sports car amongst a crowd of jalopies. She had a mostly gray color scheme but with muted green and brown highlights to resemble the colors of the Australian Outback. She was sleek in appearance with a pair of "Angel Wings" on her back that would aid in maneuverability. Her overall body scheme reminded Akane of Lester Hayes, the quarterback of the Oakland Raiders. Dual, retracted Sting Blades rested within the confines of her forearms while her chest contained six AK Missile launchers. Her emblem, displayed proudly on the left side of her chest, was that of a missile held in the jaws of a slavering bulldog modeled after her pilots' pet dog, Max who was more of a teddy bear than vicious attack dog. She was piloted by the father-son team, Hercules or "Herc" and Chuck Hansen. Of the two Hansens, Akane found Herc the more reasonable while his son was a loud-mouthed, arrogant braggert.
In the distance, a battle raged, accented by the occasional bolt of lightning, revealing the silhouette of a certain giant saurian.
Once Coyote touched down, her presence was noted.
"Tango," Yancy Beckett's voice rang over their comms. "Glad you could make it to the party."
"Glad we could join you," Dobashi replied.
"Yeah," Chuck's voice crackled on the comms. "We need all the fodder we can get for this."
Akane scowled at the younger Hansen's words.
"Hey, Chuck," Akane sneered. "You realize that Striker is just as much scrap metal to Godzilla as any of us, right?"
"I get that, really I do, Yashiro," Chuck replied, his voice thick with arrogance. "But, as far as I'm concerned, Striker's got a better chance of survivin' this encounter."
"Hey, Hansen," Raleigh crackled on the comms, "Why don't you put your money where your mouth is!"
"You argue like little children!" Sasha reprimanded the Rangers.
"Da," Aleksis added in. "Why don't you all put money where mouth is?"
"Nah, Sash," Raleigh chuckled. "This is just banter."
"Yeah," Dobashi replied. "If we were arguing, we'd be throwing insults at each other."
Before anyone could speak again, a bright, blue flash split the horizon, followed by a line of explosions. The SDF had engaged the target... and lost. Akane felt sick in her stomach. All those people, with lives outside the Defense Force... gone in an instant. She wondered if some of them, any of them, had family and friends. Her thoughts were felt by Dobashi but he said nothing.
"SDF forces have been wiped out," Tachibana announced. "Jaegers, you're up."
"Alright," Chuck announced. "Our turn!"
Striker Eureka seemed to mimic this by slamming her fist into her open hand.
Akane felt a ping of disgust. Those were people who had just died and Chuck wanted to treat this like a game.
"Alright," Dobashi spoke on his comms before switching over to the Shatterdome's comm-links. "LOCCENT, what's the current whereabouts of the target?"
"Godzilla should be right on top of you." Jinshi replied.
The Jaegers looked around hoping to spot the notorious Kaiju but all they could see were sheets upon sheets of torrential rain. Not even a bolt of lightning could be seen.
Akane told him, "I can't see two feet ahead of us in this rain. I'm gonna shoot a couple flares."
Dobashi was about to protest but said nothing.
"Samedhi," Akane ordered the Jaeger's AI. "Fire flare shells."
"Acknowledged." Samedhi replied.
With that, the twin mortar guns on the shoulders of the Jaeger ratcheted down, the large gears and wheels they rested on making a clicking, grinding noise that reverberated throughout the Conn-Pod. Once they were at an acute angle, two flare shells erupted from the turrets sailing high in the air with a whistle akin to fireworks before exploding in blood red sparks. And right there, standing before them, silhouetted against the rain and demonic, red glare stood an all too familiar form; a leonine head, three pairs of maple-leaf shaped bone white dorsal fins, a tall yet stocky body twisting with tightened muscle, his grooved, blackish-gray/mottled brown skin dripping with sea water, a long, segmented tail waving and coiling in the air, and a pair of fiery, orange/red eyes that seemed to glow with internal light.
The Butcher of Tokyo
Odo Island's Dragon God of Destruction.
The King of the Monsters.
Godzilla.
Standing at his full hundred meter height, the Kaiju absolutely towered over the Jaegers by ten to twenty meters. Even the largest Jaeger in the Strike Team, Cherno Alpha, only came up to his chest. Given the fallen buildings, he must have advanced his way through the coastline. He was already past the Miracle Mile. Right now, he stood there, waiting to see which Jaeger would make the first move.
"Alright," Akane told the assembled pilots. "We're going to need a plan of action."
"I got a plan of action," Chuck said. "Beat 'em to a pulp!
Before Akane or Dobashi could react,Striker charged at the King of the Monsters.
"Striker, wait!" Akane called. "We need to come up with an actual plan!"
"Sorry, Akane," Herc apologized for his son. "But he's already made up his mind."
Akane and Dobashi watched as Striker pulled her fist back and with a swift motion, uppercut Godzilla, causing him to stagger. She then followed up with a haymaker. As Godzilla tried to recover, Striker Eureka spun about, her Sting Blades unsheathed and ignited. The blades cut into Godzilla's flesh. However, when doing so, Striker left herself wide open as Godzilla spun around and tripped the Jaeger with his tail. The Jaeger fell like an eighty-meter tree, destroying surrounding buildings as she toppled over.
Herc and Chuck grunted as they hit the ground hard. So far, Striker was holding up, but against Godzilla, they didn't know how long.
"Chuck, if we survive this," Herc scolded his son. "Maybe let me do the thinkin'?"
"Now's not a good time fer a lecture, old man!" Chuck shouted.
Just then, they felt the Jaeger get pinned to the ground as Godzilla stepped on her torso. By the sound of her hull beginning to creak and pop, he was applying pressure. From the Conn-Pod, they could see Godzilla's glaring, fiery eyes bearing down on them.
"Try this on fer size, ya big, walking handbag!" Chuck shouted as he and Herc deployed the Jaeger's signature weapon, the Anti-Kaiju Missile Barrage. The Jaeger's chest unfurled, revealing six missile launchers which fired their payload at Godzilla. While they didn't hurt the Kaiju, they did startle him enough to lift his foot off. However, that wouldn't be enough and chances are, when he recovered, he would be absolutely pissed. However, before he could get his bearings, a blue plasma bolt struck him in the face.
"We got your back, Striker!" Yancy Beckett yelled.
Herc and Chuck saw Gipsy Danger and Cherno Alpha racing to the rescue, her right hand having transformed into a Plasmacaster firing at Godzilla. This allowed the father-son duo to lift their Jaeger off the watched as Cherno closed the distance and delivered a tesla-coil enhanced haymaker to Godzilla, the impact generating an iridescent electrical halo. However, before she could hit him again, Godzilla grabbed the fist and flung the Jaeger into a building, causing it to crumble like a house of cards. He then turned his attention to Gipsy and swung his tail into her chest, knocking her aside. In the gloom of the rain, Herc and Chuck watched as Godzilla's dorsal fins began to light up the night sky with an azure glow brighter than the sun, a distinct crackle almost like electricity and a blazing fire filling the air. However, before he could get any further, he was hit with a roundhouse by Crimson Typhoon. Distracted by the Mark-4, Godzilla let out a bark and turned his attention to the more acrobatic Jaeger.
"Thundercloud Formation, brothers!" Cheung shouted.
In response, all three brothers lined up as their Jaeger's hands shifted into buzzsaws and assumed a defensive stance. Godzilla roared before charging. In unison, the brothers swung their arms, the Jaeger's momentum added by the turbines on her back. The blades cut into the Kaiju's skin. That is, until Godzilla grabbed two of Typhoon's hands, crushing one of her right hands. However, Crimson began to rotate at the torso before flinging Godzilla to the ground.
"Cover fire!" Akane shouted.
With that,Coyote fired off a salvo of mortar rounds which struck the disoriented Godzilla. With that, Typhoon, Gipsy, and Striker activated their Plasmacasters and assumed a triangular position. Before Godzilla could even get off the ground, he was struck by a barrage of plasma fire from the three Jaegers until he was obscured by blue tinted smoke.
Akane couldn't believe it. They were getting the drop on the most feared Kaiju on the planet. They might actually when this. Her pride was shared by Dobashi. This could be the day they would finally be free of Godzilla.
It was only too late that they both realized they had made the greatest mistake anyone could make when contending with Godzilla or any Category 5 Kaiju: Underestimating them.
Just then, a different blue glow shone through the plasma smoke. Before anyone could do anything, a lance of blue energy shot through the shade and struck Crimson Typhoon head on. By the time the smoke cleared, the Jaeger pilots watched in horror as they saw the damage. A smoldering crater of molten metal was all that remained of the Jaeger's neck and upper torso. The Conn-Pod was just... gone. Chances were, the Wei Tangs were utterly vaporized with it. They didn't even have a chance to react, not even a chance to scream before they were wiped off the face of the Earth. Akane was so shocked, it felt like Typhoon fell in slow motion before finally hitting the ground, sending up a wave of dust and debris. The impact could be felt within Coyote's Conn-Pod.
"Typhoon's down." Akane and Dobashi heard Aleksis tell LOCCENT in Russian.
"Let's get this bastard!" Sasha declared, also in her native tongue.
With that, Akane and Dobashi watched Cherno charge like a robotic bull toward Godzilla who had just now gotten to his feet.
"Cherno, stand down!" Dobashi cried over his comms. "It's not worth it!"
His cries went unheard as Cherno assumed an attack stance, her turbines lighting up.
"Fry, you goddamn lizard!" Sasha roared in Russian.
With an explosive pop,Cherno's flame turbines roared into action and twin streams of fire erupted from their nozzles, engulfing Godzilla in flames. It wasn't enough as, Godzilla, his body smoldering with napalm, walked through the blaze and grabbed both turbines in his claws and crushed them, spilling ignited fuel onto the ground. However, he wasn't done as he began to claw at the Jaeger's false head, ripping and tearing into it like a bear mauling its prey. For a brief moment, he paused and his eyes fell downward. Akane felt a cold shiver run down her spine, a sentiment shared by Dobashi.
He found her nuclear core, she thought horrified.
As if confirming her fears, Godzilla thrust his hand into the Jaeger's reactor. The moment his claws made contact with the core, pearlescent radioactive energy began flowing into his talons and his dorsal fins began to ignite into a blue aura.
"Hull has been compromised!" Sasha cried.
"Hang on, Cherno, we're on our way!" Chuck shouted, his father joining him in running Striker toward Godzilla.
Godzilla peered over his shoulder and casually lashed his tail out at Striker, sending her toppling to the street, leaving an eighty-meter tall imprint in the asphalt.
Back at LOCCENT, Taizo could only watch in horror as the Jaegers started dropping like flies.Typhoon was utterly destroyed,Chernowas fighting a losing battle, and Striker, while salvageable, was no longer combat-ready unless she got her aft back to the Shatterdome for repairs.
"Gipsy, Coyote," he ordered. "Pull back, I repeat, pull back! Get out of there now!"
Despite his orders, he knew Godzilla wasn't going to let the remaining Jaegers retreat. They had angered him. There was no way in Hell he was going to let them leave. He wanted blood.
And the King always got what he wanted.
He was satisfied with his meal. He drained the metal giant of its energy in less than a minute. It wasn't much, just enough to satiate his hunger. However, it wasn't enough. His body was healing from the onslaught of these human machines. It was time to remind them of their place. He would do so through example. Wasting little time, he started tearing into the machine, his opponent no longer having the means to even wave its arms in futility. He tore off one arm and threw it aside. It landed in the ocean behind him with a loud splash. He then tore the other arm and threw it into one of the human's metal nests. It crumbled the moment the arm struck it. He then punched his hand through the glass piece in the machine. That did it. As he pulled back, he let his enemy fall down.
With another enemy down, he looked around to see who else he could tear apart. Just then, his eyes fell upon another metal giant, one that hadn't participated in the fight, or, at the very least stood in the back and fought him from afar. He would make an example of that one too.
With a roar, he charged forward, pushing himself along with his claws to gain speed and momentum. His speed wasn't diminished, even as the metal giant fired on him with its cannons.
"SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT!" Akane yelled at Dobashi as they unloaded their full salvo at the charging Godzilla. Each bolt of lightning illuminated the King of the Monsters as he raced toward them, getting closer with each stomp and undeterred by the bombardment. Just then, Godzilla closed the distance and slammed intoCoyote Tango. The impact caused Dobashi to shout and Akane to scream as Godzilla shoved them into a building. Godzilla then reached over to Dobashi's side and ripped off one of the mortars before throwing it aside much like he did with Cherno's arm. Godzilla and Coyote grappled but it was clear Godzilla had the advantage.
They watched as Godzilla gripped Coyote and proceeded to slam her into building after building before finally pulling her back, about to throw her. Dobashi and Akane's eyes locked. Just then, Dobashi detached from his harness and covered Akane's body as Godzilla threw the Jaeger long and far. They plowed through another building and Akane's vision went black before they hit the ground.
He watched the metal giant fall to the ground, the metal nest falling all around it. He was about to roar when a burning pain washed over him from behind. With a growl, he turned to see one more enemy standing before him: the blue giant.
"Okay, we got his attention," Yancy said. "If you have a follow-up plan, Rals, I'd be more than happy to hear it."
"How's this plan?" Raleigh replied, mentally projecting the plan to just keep shooting Godzilla with supercharged plasma shots.
"Oh, wow," Yancy sarcastically spoke. "How original. I couldn't have come up withthat in thirty seconds.
Raleigh ignored him and turned to Jazmin, Gipsy's onboard AI named and voice-modded after the Beckett brothers' estranged little sister of the same name.
"Jazmin," Raleigh ordered. "Super charge the Plasmacasters."
"Acknowledged."
Yancy then activated the Plasmacaster on his side of the Jaeger and proceeded to dual-wield the cannons, the bolts slamming against Godzilla's charcoal-gray body. With each shot, Godzilla's body briefly smoldered before being extinguished by his healing factor. Nothing seemed to slow him down as he began to close the distance. In a few minutes, Godzilla had made his way to the Jaeger. Just as Raleigh was about to make a shot, a sharp, burning pain lanced through his left hand causing him to howl in pain, the Relay Gel sparking like crazy.
He held the giant's energy weapon and crushed it in his talon. The cannon began to sputter and flare as its energies leaked out from the weapon. With the weapon disabled, he turned his attention to ending the machine as quickly as possible. His eyes then turned to the spinning object in the metal giant's chest. He could practically feel the radiation within and he was rather peckish after finishing off the false-head giant. Maybe, after he was done, he could feed off it. But first, he had to bring it down. He remembered the times he would strike the heads of the metal giants and they would go down. So, that's where he would start. He reached out with his talon and stabbed it into the right side of the head.
The Beckett brothers looked up in horror as a white object pierced the hull of the Conn-Pod. It took them only three seconds to realize it was one of Godzilla's claws.
"The hull!" Yancy yelled out in distress. "He pierced the hull!"
Yancy felt a twinge of fear that was both his own and not his own as he turned to face his little brother.
"Raleigh, only listen to me!" Yancy stated. "You have to-!"
He never finished the statement. One minute he was standing in front of Raleigh, the next he was gone, along with half of the Conn-Pod, letting in the torrential downpour.
"YANCE!" Raleigh howled only for his circuit suit to spark again, igniting him with pain.
"Warning,"Jazmin announced. "Drift sequence out of alignment. Neural damage imminent. Warning, Drift sequence out of alignment. Neural damage imminent."
Yeah, I heard you the first time, Jazmin, Raleigh thought bitterly through pain. You don't have to keep telling me.
His Drive Suit still sparking, Raleigh reached over and took over control of the right arm only to get jolted as Godzilla slammed him into a building tearing into the Jaeger. The impact caused debris to rain into the damaged Conn-Pod, along with the deluge. But he didn't care. He had to do this. For the Kaidonovskies, for the Wei Tangs.
For Yancy.
He let loose a roar of his own, filled with sadness, passion, defiance, and all the anger he could muster and fired the largest plasma discharge ever recorded since Gipsy Danger's deployment. The blast sent Godzilla flying back, his upper torso and neck burning bright. Raleigh felt Gipsy falling backward to the streets below Then...
Blackness.
Akane felt pain. When she moved, she could feel like her body had been hit by a sledgehammer. It hurt to so much as to shift her legs. She then looked around to see the Conn-Pod in utter shambles. She noticed her Drive Suit had some minor damage. Just then, she heard a groan. Dobashi!
She got up, gritting her teeth and hissing as she worked through the pain to reach Dobashi, currently pinned against a mixture of building debris and Conn-Pod wreckage.
Ignoring the fire in her body, Akane got to work shoving the wreckage away from her fiancé... only to gasp when she saw the state he was in. She noticed the blood dripping out from the crevasses of his Drive Suit. She could only imagine what he looked like underneath.
"Ak-Akane..." Dobashi spoke, his once strong voice now raspy and weak.
"Don't talk." Akane told him as she pulled him up, her voice near to breaking. "We-we're gonna get you some help."
Dobashi sadly shook his head. "You know it's too late for me, Akane." he told her.
"No, no, no," Akane told him, tears starting to burn her eyes. She was in full panic mode. "Do-don't say that! We're gonna call LOCCENT, we're gonna get you patched up, and... and..."
"Akane, listen to me." Dobashi told her. His soft voice somehow stronger than his old voice, despite him working through even more pain than she was. "We both know that's not going to happen. I need you to do one thing for me."
"Wh-what's that?" Akane asked.
Dobashi leaned forward and gave her one last kiss before whispering one word into her ear.
"Endure."
And with that, Dobashi's eyes rolled to the back of his head and he let out one last breath before he fell down. Dobashi Hayama left the world cradled in the arms of the woman he loved.
Akane couldn't hold back her tears any longer as she sobbed into the chest of the man she loved. She cried until her throat burned and felt like it was going to give out as rain pattered against her Drive Suit. Just then, she heard a rumbling sound. She turned over and saw Godzilla rising to his feet. He searched around, as if confirming his enemies were down.
Sorrow turned to anger as her sobs turned into hissing snarls. She narrowed her tear-stained eyes at the very monster who had taken her world from her. She first let out a yell. That yell turned into a shout. That shout turned into a roar, a roar that crescendoed into a piercing, angry, mournful scream that was only encompassed by a loud crack of thunder and Godzilla's own roar of victory.
