Conrad had known that upon hearing the news of their future ruler, his family would have various reactions. His mother's thoughts on the matter had been spot on. She was already asking him what sort of colors would look the best on their future queen.

And considering the young girl's odd hair and eye coloring, Conrad was sure that red, black, and maybe even some shades of purples and blues would fit her the best. Though he kept his thoughts to himself for the time being otherwise the palace and its residents would all find themselves swimming in dresses.

But aside from that, he wasn't sure. Which seemed to disappoint his mother terribly.

Almost as terribly as having her idea of personally decorating the girl's personal space for when she finally arrived. That particular idea had been shot down by all three of her sons instead of just Conrad. Though in his defense he had been ready to crush the mere idea himself if need be.

So, he was a little bit surprised by the fact that his older brother Gwendal and his younger brother Wolfram had both chimed in to stop their mother from running with the idea before she could jump up from her chair to get started on herself appointed project.

"So, we're to have a new Queen instead of a King," Gwendal muttered with a dark scowl. "I was hoping that we would have a bit of a break from more women wreaking havoc on us for a while." Their mother shot a pout his way, but Gwendal ignored it. "But I guess that's too much to ask for now."

Conrad stared at his older brother in sympathy, understanding very much why he was upset by the news. After all, hadn't their previous queen allowed her brother to start a war with the humans? And hadn't he, himself been sent to fight on what could only be considered a suicide mission? All because he was part human.

Their people had suffered much loss and pain during those years. And the human's had suffered just as well. And yet despite the fact that the war had ended twenty years ago... The hatred between both Demon Tribe and Humans still ran so, so very deep.

"Can you tell us if the girl is from the Demon Tribe at least?" Gwendal finally asked and Conrad sighed and shook his head before replying.

"I'm not entirely sure, she may have some Demon Tribe blood in her- perhaps distantly. But she appeared to be human to me."

And that was just one of the reasons why his family had needed to be prepared. With the hatred of humans running so deep between many of the Demon Tribe- the girl's life could easily be snuffed out by someone that they might not even consider to be a threat to her.

The thought of one of their own killing their future Queen for being a human turned Conrad's stomach.

Gwendal didn't look any happier by the news, but he also didn't look any unhappier by it either. "I see. Thank you for letting us know."

"Of course." Conrad said politely when he saw something red and fiery forming in the air above his younger brother's head, from the corner of his eye. "Wolfram. Don't. Do. It." He said warningly as he turned to finally look at his younger brother.

Wolfram looked like he wanted to commit murder right then. So much so that he possibly wanted to start his rampage by burning the castle down with all of them inside of it. The boy had always had a horrid temper but to see him barely managing to control himself like this was...well, frightening.

And then finally, the dam keeping Wolfram silent broke.

"How can the three of you just sit here and plan to let a filthy, disgusting human-"

"Wolfram, enough!" Gwendal shouted as he turned his head to glare at the boy. "Human or not, she was chosen. We have to abide by the Great One's rules!"

Wolfram crushed the fire ball that he'd been creating in his hand and snarled at Gwendal like an animal with its teeth bared. "I don't care about the damned rules!"

The boy sneered, his words causing their mother to gasp in disbelief as Conrad closed his eyes and silently tried to will this storm to pass soon. Hopefully before either he or Gwendal lost their own tempers with their brother.

"The Great One isn't going to be the one subjected to her will and whims! We are!"

"Wolfram," Conrad started to say once the boy fell silent again. "Not all humans are bad. I'm sure that her highness will be a lovely, young lady." He said in an effort to reassure his younger brother.

After all, it wasn't as if he didn't understand why the kid was so pissed off.

There was an both spoken and unspoken rule given to them by the Great One. One that annoyed the hell out of many of them. Conrad couldn't exactly say that he was one of those number's per se, but even he would admit the flaw in the rule.

Absolute loyalty and obedience both came at a steep price for them. They had had King's before who hadn't cared a whit about their lives or the many, many lives of the people within the Demon Kingdom. No. They had cared more for using them as sacrificial pawns as if their lives were nothing, but part of a game meant for their entertainment. And it was because of those previous Kings- that they had so much trouble whenever a new King arrived.

Because the Great One was who dictated who their Kings/Queens would be- no one really knew what they were getting themselves into until it was too late to run. Not that any of them could just drop what they were doing and simply vanish if they pleased.

Many of them had jobs that were detrimental to the wellbeing of the kingdom and its people.

And since that was the case- said people were basically trapped and had no other choice but to stay put. No matter how much some may want to run for the hills.

"When is the next time you are planning to check up on her?" Gwendal asked seriously, already knowing that his brother was going to check up on the girl and go back to Earth often to see her. Even if she wasn't aware of his presence.

And if that was the case, Gwendal may as well go with him and learn what he could about their future queen since any information that they could get now could only prove beneficial to them once she finally arrived.

"I'll go back in a few weeks to see what she's up to." Conrad said with a slight shrug.

He was well aware of how time tended to move differently on Earth than in their world. A few weeks there often equaled a year or so in his world. So hopefully by the time he went to check on her again she may be older than six or seven.

Which would mean that she'll be much more active in her world and also more fascinating to watch. It also meant that Gwendal, if he actually decided to go with him, would also be more interested in her.

"When you decide to go, tell me so that I can make the arrangements necessary to go with you."

"Of course." Conrad said with a slight nod before his mother chimed in too.

"Oh, I want to go too!"

Both Gwendal and Conrad just sighed knowing that while they may have stopped their mother once already- they probably wouldn't be able to stop her from going with them to check on their future Queen.

It would inevitably lead to more work and messes to clean up. But at least their mother would have some fun for once. Conrad smiled and shot his older brother a look that basically said, This is all you. While Gwendal got an almost pained look on his face and tried to tell their mother that she couldn't go.

And failed.

A fact that had Conrad trying to hide the fact that he was smothering a laugh behind one of his hands as Gwendal esc used himself to go and lock himself away in his office to hide for the next few days.
