"I'm guessing she wanted answers and went looking tor them." Daniel stated. "Add little hacker friend and she likely found out more than the NID was comfortable with her knowing."
"She only recently signed the NDA." Carter paused to take a sip of water, briefings involved a lot of talking. "Interestingly, she doesn't seem to have accepted any sort of monetary compensation and she could probably have used it. She owns an art gallery and a three bedroom house, both bought with the proceeds of a divorce settlement from Hank Summers. The daughter she shares with him, Buffy, seems to have gone through her own problems. Midway through her Freshman year her behavior started to change, she went from the Social Queen to social outcast, accused of fighting and starting a fire in the school gym during a dance. She ran away for a time and when she returned a plea deal included mandatory hospitalization. She missed the end of her Freshman year and the beginning of her Sophomore year and was tutored between the time of her release from the hospital and the start of the second semester of the Sophomore year at Sunnydale High School, Hemery High School, where she'd been attending before, expelled her."
"Did things improve in Sunnydale?" Daniel asked.
"She joined the Ancient Cultures Club run by Rupert Giles, Librarian and met Willow Rosenberg and Alexander Harris. Alexander Harris has never been in trouble with the law but his parents records read like Faith's surrogate mother. Except they're not actually his parents. The end of 1998 Rupert Giles discovered that Alexander might be his son. He started investigating, it seems he originally came to Sunnydale because he discovered a letter from an old girlfriend telling him she was pregnant and being sent to live with relatives in the states. He didn't find the letter until long after her death, the letter indicated the baby died. He got to Sunnydale and found no grave for the baby. And than one of those odd occurrences happened in Sunnydale. Chocolate bars sold by the school to raise money for new uniforms for the marching band were drugged. Four babies were kidnapped from the hospital, but were safely recovered."
"Kidnapped babies?! God damn, this town sounds like it's being run by the MOB or something!" O'Neill exclaimed.
"The Goa'uld have been known to demand that children be dedicated to them." Teal'c informed them. "Some even require them to be sacrificed to them. It's possible a Goa'uld, not wishing to call attention to itself, led a small cult in Sunnydale. Were more babies kidnapped?" He asked Carter.
"Yes and that's what led him to discovering Alexander is his son. Alexander was born the same day his girlfriend gave birth to the child she was told died. Babies were reported missing from the hospital that same week, but were not recovered. In the confusion, Alexander was given to the wrong parents. Rupert Giles gave a deposition on his findings and the results of the testing that proved Alexander is his biological son. Said testing didn't occur until after he graduated High School. He'd have been a minor until his eighteenth birthday and would have needed his legal parents permission. After graduation he was legally free to agree to the testing, when the results came in, Rupert Giles gave a deposition, presented the proof and got his son's birth certificate amended to show he's Alexander's father. Which now also makes him his legal father. Joyce Summers has followed suit and had Faith's birth certificate amended as well. Up until two days ago Faith was in a coma at Sunnydale Memorial Hospital. Joyce Summers has since reported to the hospital, who'd discovered Faith was missing, that Faith managed to make her way to her house, to her mother."
"She knew who her mother was." Daniel concluded. "She may have come to Sunnydale because her real mother was here, but her personal history would have made it extremely difficult to trust. But after coming out of the coma, she'd have been acting on instinct, needing somewhere she could feel safe. She may have even met Joyce Summers during those months she knew her daughter before they were attacked and went to the one person who might take her in."
"Anything else we should know, Major, before I report to the President and try to find out why we were never given these reports of yellow eyed people in Sunnydale?"
"Rupert Giles has a second child who's birth certificate has been amended to show he's her biological father. A Tara McClay came to Sunnydale and enrolled at the College. She works in a store he bought a few months ago, she seems to have gone looking for him after her mother died. Once he had proof of paternity, he had her birth certificate amended as well. She's two and a half months older then Alexander."
"He was busy back in the day." O'Neill muttered. "I need proof Faith's my daughter before I do anything else."
"I'll brief the President and we'll make decisions from there, son." The grandfatherly old general promised. "And figure out the mystery of Sunnydale while we're at it." He headed to his office to start the ball rolling while SG 1 silently commiserated with their hurting friend.
