Sunset of the Dead Part 03
Sunset opens the front doors a crack to check outside the front of the school and sees that everything there were no Walkers in sight.
"We're in the clear," she says while pushing the doors wide enough to let a small group out including Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Big Mac, and Flash Sentry. The last to walk out is Princess Twilight wearing her crown along with Spike.
"Are you sure?" Twilight wearily glances around.
"We've been at this for a while now, Twilight," Sunset rolls her eyes before turning to the group. "Get ready! We'll be moving out in five!" all of them nod. The Flame haired girl then starts leading the purple girl to the statue.
"What are you going to do now?" the Equestrian princess questions while noticing that the group that's mostly made up of high schoolers that are carrying various tools as makeshift weapons and various forms of those tubes with handles that she had been informed to be called guns.
"We're going to look for Trixie," the yellow girl sighs. "As annoying as she may be, she's still one of us. Plus! Her magic acts help keep our minds distracted."
The entire time, Twilight's eyes never left the guns. She even eyed the one strapped to Sunset's side. "Earlier… you looked ready to kill me."
That stopped the yellow girl in her tracks. "When I first got to this world, I knew it wasn't a place for an Equestrian. But I was too stubborn and blinded by my pride that I looked past it. When people were dropping dead and then started walking, I thought those were monsters. But the real monsters are people who are like you and I but with some twisted points of view. They do things that were so horrible that I still can't comprehend it," she turns around to reveal herself crying. "And as much of a jerk that Gilda was, she didn't even deserve to end up the way she did!"
"I knew a Gilda. What happened to her?"
Sunset wipes away the tears. "Cannibals," and all color drained from Twilight. "Humans who choose to treat other humans as their next meal. This place is too harsh for Equestrians. It will change you. If you live long enough," the flame haired girl lets the warning linger before walking towards the caged statue. "I should know."
Twilight examines the contraption surrounding the statue. "I guess it was you who barred up the portal?" despite it looking like it was built from junk, she was impressed.
"Yeah! After we finished fortifying the school I noticed it was nearing time for it to open," Sunset removed some pieces and switched them up and eventually set up a leaver and a wheel. "I couldn't risk a Walker mindlessly ending up in Equestria," she pulls the leaver before turning the wheel and the gate starts lifting a gate.
"I can understand that," the lavender girl turns to one of the dead corpses. "Who knows how much our world would change if the dead started rising."
"I have an idea," the yellow girl mumbles as she stops turning the wheel and pushes the leaver to lock the gate. "There you go, Princess. One way trip to Equestria."
"One way?" the princess lets out a chuckle. "It's not like it's going anywhere." There was a pause as the former unicorn refused to meet her eyes. "Is it?"
"Look! The only reason the portal is still here is because I had hoped the Crown would save Sweetie Belle. It did. Once you're back home I'm destroying the Portal. Equestria doesn't need this world's problems."
"What about you? Equestria is your home?"
"It hasn't been my home for a long time. Besides. I can't face Princess Celestia."
"Sunset…" Twilight walks up to her fellow Equestrian and places hand on her shoulder. "Princess Celestia didn't only send me to bring back the Crown. She wanted me to bring you home as well."
"You don't understand, Princess Twilight," Sunset looks down where her hair hides her teary eyes. "I don't belong in Equestria. I've killed people. Not just Walkers."
"It was out of defense. You said so yourself. I'm sure that Celestia will—"
Sunset shouts, "She was my first kill!"
There was a pause, and everyone looked over at them before looking down, as they understood the story.
Twilight manages a, "What?…"
The flame haired girl looks up to reveal bloodshot eyes. "This world's Celestia. I killed her. When I first got here, she tried to help me. Even back when I was the worst person in school. But I was stubborn and ignorant because she reminded me too much of the Princess. When the dead started rising, she protected me but got infected. This was before we knew what happens after you died. She eventually stopped breathing. I was devastated. Then relieved once she got up. That is until she tried to take a bite out of my face. I was desperate and ended up knocking her into the wall where her head busted open."
"It wasn't your fault, Sunset. She was one of those things. I'm sure that our Celestia won't hold that over you."
"Maybe not," Sunset sniffled. "But this world's Celestia got infected because of me and in the end I killed her. How can I look into the Princess' eyes and not see her dead?"
Twilight looks down, not having an answer. "I guess there's nothing I can say to change your mind?"
Suddenly, Rainbow Dash is up next to Sunset with an arm laying over her shoulders. "I hope not! We'd be lost without her."
"That's not true, Rainbow," Sunset lets out a chuckle as she removes the arm.
"But it is," Flash approaches them. "You can ask anybody here."
Big Mac then lets out a "Eyup!"
The cowgirl then walks up to her. "Sunset. Many o' us would not be ah'live if it weren't fer you."
Sunset smiles at the group around her.
"It seems like you have your duties here," Twilight grabs their attention. "As I have mine back in Equestria," she curtsies. "I hope you change your mind about destroying the Portal. I would like to get to know you better."
"I'm sorry, Twilight. It's too dangerous."
"I understand. Spike…," the lavender girl turns towards the statue just as her number one assistant is by her side. "Let's go home."
The Princess takes a deep breath, preparing for the shift she'll experience from the portal and just as she goes to take the first step, the cage is suddenly dropped over the portal. Standing to the side of the portal is Twilight's double with the leaver pulled.
"Twilight!?" Sunset shouts while approaching the spectacled girl. "What are you doing!?"
She looks up at them. "Saving an entire world?"
"What are you talking about?"
"This Twilight is infected! If she returns home then all of Equestria will be doomed."
Princess Twilight's eyes widen. "What!? That can't be. I wasn't bit."
Her doppelganger and Sunset face her and the flame haired girl with dread in her eyes tells her. "The bite just kills you."
Guest(Austin): This was actually inspired from a story I once started reading on FIMFiction. It was a bunch of stories that gives scenarios of what if Sunset ended up on a different kind of world. Not sure it had one, but I started wondering what if one of those was the Walking Dead Universe. It also helped inspire my What Happened to Flash Sentry? One-Shots.
