Chapter 47: goodbye Daddy

[Uzumaki compound, later that night]

Tsunade was sitting at one of the tables, drinking sake while looking at a photo album of her past, after Kakashi had been taken to the hospital as she had refused to treat him. After doing a preliminary examination, finding nothing life-threatening, and saying that the doctors at the hospital could easily take care of him.

She had decided to go down memory lane and look at a photo album she had not looked at for years. Hearing the soft creek of a floorboard, she looks to her left and sees Ashia peeking around a door. With a smile she asks, "what are you doing up this late young lady?" Ashia slowly walks into the room and says, "I woke up and I went to see Daddy but he wasn't in his bed, so I went and got a glass of water." Tsunade nods her head and says, "well I think your daddy went out to see some old friends."

Ashia gave a nod and asks, "what are you doing Grandma Tsunade?" Tsunade has a smile on her face and says, "I'm just looking at some old photo albums." As she waves her hand to come closer. Ashia walks up and sits in her lap and looks at the photo album. Looking at the pictures, she sees a picture of Tsunade and a white-haired man and points at it and asks "who's that?"

As she looks at the picture she's pointing at, Tsunade has a smile on her face and says, "that was my former boyfriend, Dan Kato." As Ashia Looks at the picture again, she squints her eyes and then says "he looks like a dork." The moment Tsunade hears this comment, she begins to laugh. Due to the fact that she had said this many times herself. Her laughing is interrupted by the sound of the voice of Shizune asking "what is so funny lady Tsunade?" As she walks in with a tray of tea.

With a large grin on her face, Tsunade looks at her and says "well, it seems like Ashia is good at describing people through their pictures, as she took one look at a picture Dan and called your uncle a dork."

Shizune, after putting down the tray of tea, let out a small laugh herself and says "well, we all know it's true, so I won't fight it." She then reaches over and rubs Ashia on the head, then grabs the album and asks "you want to see a real dork?" As she flips through the pages, she then shows a picture of Nawaki.

Ashia looks at it and says "he looks almost like big brother." But both women noticed she has slightly red cheeks.

Tsunade, after managing to get her laughing under control, notices that Ashia seemed to have a small frown on her face. Looking down at her, she asks "what's wrong sweetie?"

Ashia, letting out a breath, says "I'm just sad because my daddy has to leave tomorrow." Looking up at Tsunade, she asks "isn't there any way he can stay Grandma? What if he says he's sorry? Big brother says when you do something bad, you're supposed to say you're sorry. He only did it because Grandpa was going to do something naughty and he had to stop him."

Tsunade put her arms around her and began to rub her back and says "I'm so sorry sweetie. There's nothing we can do. While you are correct that when you do something bad, you're supposed to say you're sorry, the situation with your daddy is different. Even though I'm going to become the Hokage, I don't have the power to let him come back due to the nature of his crime."

After managing to calm down Ashia, the three continue to look at pictures for another hour before Ashia started to fall asleep on Tsunade's lap. Standing up carefully, Tsunade carries Ashia back to her room and put her back in bed. The moment she's back in her bed she grabs her stuffed crow and hugs it despite being asleep. Tsunade smiles seeing this. She then looks at the nightstand and sees a new picture had been added to the collection. This one's showing Itachi and Ashia sitting on a park bench, having ice cream. Ashia had a big smile on her face as she was eating her pistachio flavored ice cream after having found out it was her mom's favorite.

[Breakfast hall]

As usual, all the kids were sitting down to breakfast, chatting to one another. Naruto was standing in the doorway talking to Tsunade and Shizune along with Hinata and Ino, when they see Daiki come in and sit down next to Rein and put a small wrapped package on the table in front of her and underneath his breath he says "happy birthday or whatever."

Rein narrows her eyes and asks "what's the point of this?"

Daiki, looking away from her, says "it's the rule. On your birthday, you're supposed to get presents." Rein picks up the package and opens it, revealing a silver picture frame.

Daiki, still looking away, says "I noticed the frame that you have your mother's picture in was falling apart."

Rein, who was desperately looking the other way to hide her pink cheeks, says "thank you." Underneath her breath before quickly leaving the room.

Naruto, along with his group who had watched this, looks at Ino and says "please tell me who is worse. Me or him."

Ino crosses her arms with a smirk on her face as she says "now that is a hard question to answer Naruto-kun. Daiki at least acknowledges the girl he has a crush on while you, on the other hand, you were completely oblivious to your own personal stalker. I am honestly surprised you never realized that she was stalking you all those years with her following you and hiding around corners and in bushes."

Ino was looking to her left at a red-faced Hinata as she says "I wouldn't be surprised if she broke into your apartment and stole a pair your underwear."

Naruto scratches his head and says "now that you mention it, I did have my favorite pair of boxers disappear one time. They had foxes eating a bowl of ramen on them. The old man used to always tell me I must have just misplaced them."

Ino's eyes went wide as she remembered seeing a pair of boxers in Hinata's dresser that match that description when they were looking for the outfit for her date with Naruto, but before she could say anything else, Hinata jabs her finger in the side of Ino's neck, making her collapse like a puppet who had its strings cut. Luckily Naruto was still looking the other way and did not notice. Hinata then says "oh dear. I think she collapsed. I'll just take her to the medical wing."

Naruto scratches his head and says "I hope she's going to be okay and she didn't get what you had back before you moved in, when you would always go red in the face and pass out every time I try to talk to you." Hinata then says "I'm sure she'll be fine." As she drags her away. Naruto nods with a smile and says "well, I'm glad that she's got this under control." Then he goes into the breakfast hall, calling out "hey, you brats. Save me some of that apple smoked bacon."

Both Tsunade and Shizune, who had been standing off to the side, were shaking their heads while trying to contain their laughter. Tsunade, shaking her head and rubbing her forehead says "that boy puts the E in Ignorant." After getting her own laughter under control, Shizune says "who needs to watch soap operas on TV. All you got to do is move into this compound."

[Naruto's office]

Naruto was sitting in his office going over some paperwork when there was a small knock at his door. Calling out "come in" and looking up from his paperwork, he sees Sakura and a woman walk in. Putting down his pen, he asks "hello Sakura, what can I do for you today?"

Sakura introduces her aunt and says "my aunt saw an ad in the paper for a new maid and I thought I would introduce her to you." Naruto smiles and greets the woman and says "yes, we are indeed looking for a new maid. We are also looking for help with the laundry." The woman smiles and says "I think I'll be more interested in the maid position." Naruto just nods his head and pushes a button on his desk, calling Amie to come to his office.

Folding his hands on the desk, Naruto then says "Sakura told me that you're constantly working. If it's not too much trouble, why is that?" The woman looks down and says "I'm constantly having to go from job to job because of my husband. He-He's a drunk and an impulsive gambler who can't keep a job. So, it falls on me to continuously pay off his debt and bar tabs. Honestly, I do want to leave him but I just don't have the resources to move into a new house, buy furniture, and everything else. It's just not possible and although my sister has offered to let me live with her, I just couldn't do that to them."

Naruto leans back in his chair and says "I'll tell you what I'll do since you're going to be working here at the compound. And since quite a few of my little sisters have become attached to little Ainu so much, with the position of a maid, I can offer you one of the apartments here in my district at a reasonable price. I will even cover the cost of furnishing it for you." The woman looks up at him and says "I couldn't accept that. That's way too much."

Naruto just gives a laugh and says "when you become an employee of this family, you become a member of this family, and we always look out for our family. So, getting them in an apartment with everything is no contest for us." She then breaks down into tears, being comforted by Sakura. Soon Amie walks in and asks "you wanted to see me, Lord Uzumaki?"

Naruto gets a tick mark on his forehead and asks "what have I told you about calling me Lord Uzumaki, Amie?" She just smiles and says "it is not my place as someone in my standing not to call you by your title my Lord." Which makes Naruto get a pout on his face.

Naruto then gives an explanation and introduces the woman. He then says "once you are finished, I want you to contact the security and have her escorted home so she may be able to collect her belongings and her daughters. They can both stay here in the compound until we can get the apartment ready for them." Amie gave a nod and says "I will see to it." She then asked the woman to follow her.

Naruto watches as they leave. Once they are both gone, he looks at Sakura and says "I want you to tell me right now and I want the truth, Haruno. Your aunt says your uncle is a drunk. I want to know. Has he ever hit her or Ainu?"

Sakura looks down and plays with her thumbs. She then says "she's never admitted to it, but my mom and I have seen bruises on her. she just says that she bumped into something or fell." Naruto, who's eyes had narrowed, says "I'm going to need a picture of your uncle. That way my security will know he is no longer welcome inside this district or my compound."

Naruto then looks at the clock on the wall and sees it's only an hour away from when Itachi would have to leave. He then stands up and says "I guess it's time to get ready." As the two of them make their way through the courtyards towards the training hall, where he knows that the father and daughter duo are training. Sakura smiles as they walk through one of the open areas and says "I have to say, your compound is beautiful."

Naruto gives a nod and says "I agree with you." Sakura then spies a woman sitting at one of the outdoor tables, talking to two children, who are hugging her but have tears going down their cheeks.

As Naruto looks where she is looking, he gives a small shake of his head and says "before you ask, the reason they are sitting there like that is because their mother just asked me to have her children stay here for a while. She's an ex-kunoichi who had a mission go horribly wrong and she was captured, beaten and raped for over 3 days before her team was able to rescue her. She now suffers from PTSD. The invasion screwed up with her mind and she almost attacked one of her kids when they came up behind her while she was cooking. She's an old friend from my old neighborhood so I automatically agreed to let the kids stay here until she can get her head back on straight." Sakura quickly nods her head in understanding, seeing the logic in not wanting to have a kunoichi having panic attacks around young children.

The two of them continue across the compound but stop as someone goes "pst, pst, big brother." The two of them see one of Naruto's little brothers wearing a gray trench coat, standing next to a tree. Naruto lets out a breath and shakes his head as the two of them walk over and he says "Sakura meet the family snitch. You ever need any dirt on any of my family, this is the boy you talk to."

Sakura looks at him then breaks into a grin. Quickly looking back at the boy and asks "you got any dirt on your big brother here?" The boy takes out a notebook and says "let's see. Well, big brother has weird magazines hidden in his room. They have pictures of ladies wearing small bikinis." Naruto quickly puts his hand over the boy's mouth and says "and that's enough out of you."

Naruto, after avoiding the look he is getting from Sakura, asks "now, what do you want?" The boy just replies that one of his sisters has now got a boyfriend and he saw her kissing him. Grumbling under his breath, Naruto says "I will deal with that later." Which makes Sakura giggle into her hand.

Grabbing Sakura, he leads her towards the training hall. Looking out of the corner of his eye, he sees that Sakura is still looking at him. Letting out a breath, Naruto says "don't look at me like that. Yes, I have swimsuit issue magazines of girls in bikinis. But I'm also a teenage boy Sakura. And, before you make a comment of me being a pervert, you should know, it was Yoshino along with the other moms who gave me the magazines."

Sakura blinked her eyes at him and asks "really?"

Naruto replies "they claimed that they would rather have me having those magazines and looking at the pictures of the girls in the privacy of my room then going out and trying to spy on the hot springs or changing rooms." Sakura blinks a few times and then nods her head and says "I guess that makes sense and at least the girls in those magazines want to be looked at."

[Training hall]

As both Naruto and Sakura slip into the room and take kneeling positions on tatami mats, the two of them see none other than Ashia standing in the middle of the room wearing a training gi. On either side of her was a small net. They also noticed that she had her Sharingan active. Standing in front of her a short distance away were both Hinata and Hanabi, each had a basket with red and white tennis balls.

Itachi, who was standing to the side, gave a nod of the head and instantly both girls began to throw the tennis balls at her. Ashia then begins to do her best to sort the tennis balls between colors, using her reflexes and her Sharingan, into the two nets.

After a few moments, Itachi signals them to stop as Ashia, who had suddenly begun to clutch her eyes, with Itachi quickly moving to look at them. He instantly noticed that she had managed to unlock a second Tomoe in her eyes. A proud smile appears on his face as he congratulates her on her accomplishment.

Sakura, who had been kneeling next to Naruto, whispers to herself "incredible. She's already activated her Sharingan. She's a prodigy, just like her father." Naruto shakes his head and says "please do not call her a prodigy. I know you were not at the third stage of the tournament, but the truth is, I hate the term of prodigy. It often leads to them becoming arrogant with a large head. just look at Sasuke and Neji. Both of them were called prodigies and both of them suffered from a superiority complex."

Naruto, seeing that the training session was over, stands up and approaches the group and says "Ashia, I'm sorry honey but it's time. We need to make our way to the front gate."

Ashia looked at her big brother. With a few tears in her eye, she hugs her daddy's legs and says "okay." The group then heads out. After Itachi had collected his belongings, the group makes their way out of the compound. As they approach the gate of the compound.

Sakura sees her aunt being escorted out of the compound by no less than five men, whose size would make her uncle look like a toothpick next to an oak tree. A small smile appeared on her face now that she knows that her aunt is now free from her uncle.

[Front gates of the village]

Naruto was now talking with Itachi, asking him how his eyes were feeling after having both Hinata and Tsunade look at his eyes and using their abilities to heal them. He commented that his eyes now felt as good as new and the partial blindness was gone.

Hiruzen and Tsunade walked up to the two and Tsunade says "I will not deploy any trackers to track you down for another day." Tsunade looks at him and says "I have decided I'm going to reveal the truth about the attempted coup by your family. I won't reveal your daughter but it's time the village knew the truth." Itachi nods his head and says "I understand. Maybe that will finally get my foolish little brother to understand what I was trying to teach him."

Itachi then looks at Ashia, who was standing next to Hinata, who had just called out. "Take me with you daddy. I want to come." Itachi waves his hand in a come here gesture, which instantly makes the girl run towards him. Right before she could get to him, he extends his right hand. Using his two fingers on his right hand, he pokes her in the forehead and says "maybe next time." He then disappears in a flock of crows.

Ashia drops to her knees and begins to cry but is instantly hugged by Hinata. Naruto then looks at them and says "why don't you get the rest of the girls together and teach our little bird here the joys of gorging out on ice cream that you girls do so well when you're upset." All of the women in the group behind him all give a little laugh. Ashia looks up at her big sister and says "can we get pistachio?" It was my mommy's favorite." Hinata just nods her head and smiles at Ashia and says "of course sweetie. We're also going to need a lot of cookie dough and chocolate." She then picks up the girl.

Naruto just smiles and nods his head and says "good. That's taken care of. Now, I've got something important I got to do." In a puff of smoke, a golf bag filled with supplies suddenly appears in front of him and he then begins to look through it. Ino looks at her boyfriend and asks "what are you doing now, you moron?" Naruto replies "one of my little sisters decided she wants to get a boyfriend. So, now I'm going to go stare at him while palming one of my weapons." He then looks at Shikamaru and asks "what do you think?" Reaching into the bag and pulling out at baseball bat "should I go for the classic baseball bat or should I go for the lead pipe? I have a feeling that taking a katana would just be two cliche." Inoichi let out a laugh and says "no. Go for the nine iron. You can get a good back swing on it." Which gets him a slap on the back of the head by his wife.

Yoshino walks up to him and grabs him by the ear and says "you leave that girl and her boyfriend alone. You hear me young man?" In a whining voice, Naruto just says "but it's my job as a big brother." Not giving him time to finish, Yoshino gives his ear a twist and asks "are you back talking me young man?" Naruto quickly puts the tools back in the bag and says "no ma'am." Yoshino let's go of his ear and says "okay ladies. Let's head back to the Nara compound. We can use one of the meeting rooms to help Ashia."

Sakura calls out "I'll catch up in a minute." She then walks up to Naruto and says "do you have a minute? There is something I want to talk to you about."

Naruto nods his head and begins to walk back towards the village and says "of course. What's on your mind?" Sakura lets out a breath and says "I've got a date coming up with Lee and I was hoping you would be willing to talk to him about settling down a little and not being so loud. He seems to listen to you."

Naruto gave a small laugh and says "don't worry. I will talk to him and I get it that he can be a little bit much at times and it wouldn't be a good idea to have that happen on a date."

[Later that day, Naruto's office]

Naruto was finishing up a bit of paperwork. Going over a report of all the children's progress in the academy. It turned out hiring the former Rogue kunoichi from the Hidden Grass Village, who had taken to be the academy teacher, was going well.

Right as he sat back in his chair, the door to the office opens and his mother walks in without her mask. With an innocent smile on her face that Naruto does not buy for an instant he asks "what did you do?"

Kushina instantly gets a pout on her face and puts her hands on her hips and asks "is that any way to treat your mother? Instantly accusing her of doing something?" Naruto just looks at her and says "I have that same look on my face whenever I pull a prank or I did something. So, stop trying to tell me you didn't do anything because I got that look from you."

Kushina, with a grin on her face, says "I may have or may not have left a large crate of pranking supplies where the kids could find them. Besides, it's in my job description as grandma to help cause you a headache. Normally, this would be because of all the headaches you gave me growing up but due to circumstances outside of our control, I'll just have to guess how many headaches you would have given me."

Naruto just lets out a breath while underneath his breath saying "and people wonder where I get my craziness from." Kushina begins to flare her arms at her side in a child-like manner and says "I am not crazy! I know for a fact because the voice inside my head tells me so."

Naruto then hears the voice of Kurama saying "trust me brat. Even at a young age, she had one really screwed up mind inside her head. Half of her dreams when she was young, was about her dominating the world and becoming the ruler."

Naruto just rubs his forehead and asks "so, what brings you here today?" Kushina replies "I just want to see how your mission in the Land of Lightning went." Naruto tells her everything that had happened. Kushina nods her head and says "good. I'm glad to see that overgrown gorilla was able to act nice for once. Although, I'm still planning on visiting him for calling me a tomato. I'll show him a tomato."

Naruto just shakes his head and says "mom, will you please get over it? Yes, your head looks like a tomato. It's just a fact of life and a nickname that you will have to accept. I mean, for the love of the Sage, you named me Naruto. Do you know how many fish cake jokes I've had to put up with because of you?"

Kushina, with a child-like pout on her face, says "Naruto is a perfectly wonderful name." She then reaches into her cloak pocket and pulls out a folder and says "but the reason I came here today was to give you this. You told us to keep an eye out for him and we found him." Naruto reaches out and takes the folder and opens it. He then looks back up at his mother and asks "where is he?" She replies "he's on the border of the Land of Wind and the Land of Rivers. Your father is watching him so he won't be going anywhere."

Naruto quickly gets up to give this mother a hug and says "thank you. Now if you excuse me, I need to get to the tower. Try not to spoil the kids too much, please." His mother just laughs and says "no promises."

[Hokage Tower]

Naruto knocks on the door. After hearing a voice say "come in." He walks in and sees both Tsunade and Hiruzen going over some paperwork. Tsunade looks up at him and asks "so, what brings you here today brat?"

Naruto calls out "Yūgao, if you're here, I need you." Yūgao instantly drops down from the ceiling. He then says "I need you to do two things for me. First, I need you to go to the academy and get Konohomaru and put him in one of the holding cells until further notice. Next, I need you to get Asuma and bring him here as quickly as possible." Yūgao looks at the Hokage, who gave a nod of the head, knowing that Naruto would not be acting like this if it was not important.

Hiruzen looks at Naruto and asks "what's going on Naruto?" He replies "we should wait for your son to get here." Asuma walks into the office 10 minutes later and asks "so, what's going on? Yūgao didn't give me much information, just to get here quickly."

Naruto looks at both of them and says "the reason I had Yūgao bring you here is because I just came across a piece of information that you need to see." As he holds up the folder and hands it out to Asuma, who calmly takes it, with his father walking up next to him. The moment they open the folder, Tsunade watches as the cigarette that had been in Asuma's mouth falls to the ground. As both of the men's faces become red with rage, due to the page depicting none other than Akuma Shibasaki, the man who had killed Asuma's younger sister along with her husband.

[Omake the burn]

Naruto was walking through his district, heading home after talking with his publisher for his book. Finding out that he had distributed the book out of the village and the book sales were going well. Naruto had mentioned that he was in the process of making another book. The publisher instantly agreed to publish it when it was finished.

Naruto had just entered through the main gate and was heading towards his office when the smell hit his nose. Following it and walking around a tool shed, he finds one of his little brothers smoking a cigarette. Naruto instantly grabs him by the back of the neck and says "you are in so much trouble young man." Naruto then begins to drag him in one direction.

After dragging him through the village, towards his destination, the hospital comes into view. Walking through the main door and walking up to the reception desk, Naruto asked a nurse on duty where he can find Sara. The nurse directed him to the 5th floor. Giving a nod of the head, he then drags the boy towards the elevator.

Arriving on the 5th floor, Naruto drags the boy down the hallway to the receiving area and sees not only Sara but also Hinata, Sakura, and Ino having a conversation.

Sara, who had spotted Naruto walking down the hall dragging a boy by the scruff of his neck, asks "what's going on here?" Naruto then replies "I came here because I need your help."

Surprisingly, it was Hinata that replied. Looking up from her clipboard she says "Naruto, the pediatric ward is downstairs but if they have not been able to help you in the past, I doubt they'll be able to help you now."

Almost instantly, everybody within hearing range that heard this, began to burst out laughing. She was instantly in a hug from both Sakura and Ino. Naruto had fallen face first to the ground. He then looks up at her and says "you became so mean. You're spending too much time with the girls." Hinata just replies "you're the one who wanted me to come out of my shell. And I have to have a hard stance if I'm going to be the girlfriend of an Uzumaki, with all the shenanigans that you get up to."

Naruto then has crocodile tears going down his cheeks as he was being laughed at by all the nurses.

Sara, despite having a smile on her face, says "okay. Well, despite the good burn Hinata here gave you, what can I help you with today?" Naruto stands back up and shoves the boy forward and says "I would like to introduce you to someone. Meet Mr. Smokey McSmoker of cigarettes." Sara, along with all the other nurses, lock onto the boy. Naruto then says "I was wondering if you could give him the same speech you told me. About how if you ever caught me with a cigarette in my mouth, I had to have a signed permission slip from Kami."

Sara got her scary smile on her face and says "oh, don't worry. I'm sure we here at the hospital can give him a very, VERY educational course on what happens to smokers." As she reaches out and grabs the boy and begins to drag him down the hallway. The boy calling out "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Big brother, please! Please big brother!"
