"Ugh, this is impossible!" Herscher of Sentience (or "Senti" as she preferred) tossed her controller into the air, scowling. Her red eyes glowed as frustration buzzed around her like an electric storm.

In front of her, the screen of her gaming console flickered, showing the "Game Over" screen for the third time in a row. Senti had been trying to get her character, a hyper-competitive version of herself, to land the final blow in Super Smash Bros. But no matter what, some pesky player named "Old Timer" kept blocking her every move.

With a dramatic sigh, Senti slumped in her seat, crossing her arms as she glared at the screen, muttering under her breath. "Who even plays this game anymore? It's just so... so... childish!"

Then, an idea struck her—a mischievous grin spread across her face as she turned toward the corner of the room where Fu Hua, the stoic and seemingly indestructible veteran of countless battles, was sitting quietly, sipping tea.

"Hey, Old Timer!" Senti's voice cut through the air. "You know, you look like the kind of person who would totally be good at this game."

Fu Hua raised an eyebrow, not even bothering to look at her. "What are you talking about, child?" she asked.

"I'm talking about Super Smash Bros.," Senti said dramatically, standing up and twirling a controller in her hand like a weapon. "I think it's time for a showdown. You and me. Right now."

Fu Hua continued sipping her tea. "I don't play video games."

"Not even a little?" Senti's grin widened. "I bet you're just afraid I'll win."

Fu Hua's gaze finally shifted toward her, though her expression remained serene. "I have no interest in playing games meant for children. My time is better spent doing things that matter."

Senti pouted, crossing her arms. "Oh, come on! You're such a buzzkill! Everyone's so serious here! Live a little! Have some fun!"

Fu Hua raised a hand, calmly placing her teacup down on the table. "I've lived plenty. That's why I no longer waste my time on frivolous activities like video games."

Senti's face twisted into one of exaggerated despair. "Ugh, that's so lame! You're just mad because I'm better than you! You're probably like, so old you can't even handle a simple game anymore!"

That did it.

Fu Hua's eyebrow twitched. She placed both hands on the table, standing up slowly with a long, quiet sigh. "Very well, Senti. I'll humor you. But know this: there's a reason why I stopped playing games. I have no intention of going easy on you."

Senti's face lit up. "Now we're talking!" She tossed the controller into the air, catching it with expert precision. "Prepare to lose, Old Timer!"

The two sat down at a nearby table, the console flickering to life as Fu Hua took a seat. Senti, already bouncing in her chair with excitement, selected her character—a stylized, smug version of herself, of course. Fu Hua chose a neutral fighter, opting for the battle-hardened, yet unflashy, character of Captain Falcon. It was clear she wasn't interested in flashy tricks or gimmicks.

"Don't cry when I win," Senti taunted, her voice dripping with arrogance. "I'm just naturally good at everything."

Fu Hua's expression remained unchanged. "We'll see about that."

The match began, and immediately Senti dashed forward with lightning speed, launching herself across the stage with reckless abandon. Fu Hua, however, was patient. She stood still, carefully waiting for Senti to make a move.

"Ha! You're too slow!" Senti taunted, her character performing a series of flashy attacks. She spun in mid-air, then unleashed a flurry of kicks, sending Fu Hua's Captain Falcon sliding across the stage.

Fu Hua, unfazed, simply blocked and countered, a calm smile forming on her lips. "You should try controlling your attacks better."

Senti's eyes narrowed. "What did you say?!" With a growl, she pressed forward, her character leaping again and again, but Fu Hua was always a step ahead. Every time Senti moved to land a hit, Fu Hua deftly dodged or countered, her Captain Falcon gliding smoothly across the screen.

"This is pathetic!" Senti growled, her fingers rapidly pressing the controller buttons as she desperately tried to land a blow.

Fu Hua, as if in slow motion, moved Captain Falcon with precision, evading each of Senti's reckless attacks. "You're letting your emotions control your movements. The key to success is patience."

"You—!" Senti screeched. "You're so annoying!"

In a final, desperate attempt, Senti made a daring move, leaping across the screen with a charged attack that seemed to crackle with energy. But Fu Hua anticipated this, sidestepping at the last second, and with a swift punch, launched Senti's character off the stage, sending her spiraling into the void.

"Game over," Fu Hua said simply, leaning back in her chair.

Senti stared at the screen, her face frozen in shock. "No... no way!" she shouted, her voice cracking with frustration. "This is impossible! I was winning—I was supposed to win!"

"Calm down," Fu Hua said dryly, taking a sip of her tea. "You were too hasty. You should have analyzed the situation instead of rushing in with all that enthusiasm."

Senti's face turned crimson, fists clenching around the controller. "I... I'm not done yet! Rematch! Let's go again!"

Fu Hua sighed, her eyes narrowing slightly. "It's a game, Senti. And sometimes... you lose. I hope you remember that."

But Senti, unable to accept defeat so easily, pressed the rematch button before Fu Hua could stop her. "I'll get you this time, Old Timer. I swear it!"

By the end of the session, Senti was slouched in her chair, defeated but not broken—yet. Her face was a mixture of frustration and admiration. "Okay, fine," she grumbled. "You're better than I thought... but next time, next time... I'll win."

Fu Hua stood, stretching her arms. "Perhaps. But remember, Senti. Games are just that—games. You shouldn't let them control you."

Senti scowled but nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I'll think about it. But I'm still going to crush you one day!"

Fu Hua gave her a small smile. "I look forward to it."

The next morning...

No sooner had Fu Hua settled into her morning routine, sipping her tea and contemplating the balance of her life, than the familiar sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway.

Senti.

Before Fu Hua could even finish her sip, the door to her quarters swung open with a loud bang, and in dashed none other than Herscher of Sentience, her eyes blazing with determination. She had a slight bounce to her step, as though she'd won a great victory… which, of course, was not true. Not even close.

"Old Timer!" Senti cried, throwing her arms wide like an overenthusiastic puppy. "I'm ready for my rematch!"

Fu Hua sighed heavily, setting her tea cup down with the slow, deliberate care that only a centuries-old being could manage. She didn't even need to turn around to know what was coming. "You're back already?"

Senti practically danced in front of her. "Of course! You didn't think I'd just give up, did you? You may have beaten me yesterday, but today's going to be different. I'm ready, Fu Hua! Ready to beat you!"

Another heavy sigh escaped Fu Hua, this one a little more exaggerated than the last. She was beginning to feel like a broken record. "Senti... we went through this yesterday. I thought we already settled the matter."

"I'm not a quitter!" Senti retorted, crossing her arms. "And I've been practicing all night! I've learned your moves. I've studied you. I'm ready to give you a run for your money! This time, I'm totally going to win!"

Fu Hua turned slowly, her expression a mixture of both exasperation and the faintest glimmer of amusement. "You do realize that, despite your... enthusiasm, there is more to life than gaming, right?"

Senti stuck out her lower lip, putting on the most exaggerated pout she could muster. "Oh, come on! Stop being such a grumpy old timer!" She waved her hand in the air dramatically. "You're just mad because I almost beat you yesterday. I'll admit it, I was a little off my game... but today's going to be different! Trust me!"

Fu Hua simply gazed at her, her eyes as patient as ever, but her posture hinting at the heavy weight of inevitability. "You are very persistent, I'll give you that. But you should understand that a game is not won just by trying harder. You need strategy, patience, and control. It's not about spamming your moves and hoping they hit."

Senti waved her hand dismissively. "Yeah, yeah, I know all that. But who needs strategy when I've got sheer willpower on my side?" She grinned, showing the same self-assured cockiness that had almost cost her the match the day before.

Fu Hua considered this for a moment, then sighed again, clearly out of patience. "Fine. I'll indulge you. But be warned, I won't hold back this time."

Senti's eyes lit up, a mischievous glint in them. "That's the spirit! Let's do this!"

The two made their way to the designated gaming room—Senti leading the way with her usual over-exuberance, Fu Hua following with a calmness that suggested she'd been through far more trying battles than a simple video game could ever provide. As they sat down, Fu Hua chose her controller with a neutral, almost casual manner, while Senti frantically selected her fighter, determined to pick the most flashy, chaotic version of herself possible.

"You ready to lose again?" Senti asked, barely able to contain her excitement.

Fu Hua gave her a quiet glance. "I've fought many battles, Senti. This one will not be any different."

The game started.

Immediately, Senti launched her character forward with speed, unleashing a series of wild, uncontrolled attacks. "Take this! And this! And this—!"

Fu Hua dodged with the precision of someone who had trained for centuries, her Captain Falcon calmly sidestepping every attack with ease. "You're rushing again," Fu Hua commented, not even slightly winded. "Slow down and focus."

Senti's face twitched. "Focus? Who needs focus when I've got raw power and speed?!" She mashed buttons like a flurry of wind, each attack more desperate than the last. Her character darted across the screen, but no matter how fast she moved, Fu Hua was simply faster.

"Ugh, stop dodging!" Senti whined, her character spinning around like a whirlwind, only to miss Fu Hua again. "You're just too good! It's not fair!"

Fu Hua's Captain Falcon slid effortlessly out of harm's way, only to land a powerful counterattack that sent Senti's character flying. "This is why I told you to control your actions. You cannot defeat me if you do not think before you strike."

Senti clenched her fists. "You're so annoying! Why are you so calm about this?! You're ruining my victory!"

"Perhaps if you calmed down, you could think clearly," Fu Hua said, her voice like a gentle wave over a rocky shore. "It's just a game, Senti. No need to get so worked up."

"I'M NOT WORKED UP!" Senti screamed. "You just keep beating me! This isn't fair!"

For a moment, Fu Hua paused, her gaze softening. "Senti, it's a game. Losing is part of it. If you can't accept losing, then you can't truly understand the value of a challenge."

Senti glared at the screen, her mind swirling with frustration. But then, she took a deep breath. "Alright, alright. I'll stop being all... dramatic." She pressed a button slowly, her character standing still for a brief second.

Then, with a surprising flicker of focus, Senti adjusted her strategy. She began to move more deliberately, timing her attacks and reading Fu Hua's moves instead of rushing in with abandon. Slowly, her character began to land a few blows.

"Hey, wait a minute… I think I'm getting the hang of this!" Senti said, her voice filled with tentative hope.

Fu Hua said nothing, simply watching her closely, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

For a moment, it seemed as if Senti might actually pull off a victory. She managed to land several good hits on Fu Hua's Captain Falcon, and the crowd in the background cheered, as if aware of the shift in momentum. The screen flashed as her attacks grew more controlled, more deliberate.

But then, as if a switch had been flipped, Fu Hua's Captain Falcon responded with a devastating counterattack—a perfectly timed punch that sent Senti's character flying off the stage once again.

"Game over," Fu Hua said softly.

Senti stared at the screen, her mouth slightly agape. "You... you're unbeatable, aren't you?" she muttered, half in awe and half in disbelief.

Fu Hua's smile was faint but kind. "Sometimes, Senti, the true challenge isn't winning. It's in learning how to lose and getting better for next time."

Senti let out a long sigh, slumping in her seat. "Yeah, yeah, I get it... but I swear one day, I'll take you down!"

Fu Hua chuckled. "We'll see about that."
