Chapter 7

1 month later

Spencer and Michelle's wedding had been beautiful attended by fewer people that had Dave's and Lynnette's, but then Michelle didn't have to invite a lot of people, because she wasn't as well-known other than as the daughter of David Rossi. She didn't have to invite a lot of the people her father had, because while she had money of her own she still wasn't as public a figure as her father. Her not being a public figure was on purpose so many people had never heard of her. Her wedding had been beautiful and perfect and now it was just over a week later and Spencer and Michelle were on their honeymoon and would be for another two weeks.
"I am pregnant, I am pregnant," Lynnette announced excitedly, entering Dave's office.
"You are?" Dave asked looking up from where he was sitting in his office dealing with some business.
Dave had cut back considerably when it came to work obligations, as he wanted to spend as much time with Lynnette as he could. He still did some business every day, but now he didn't keep himself so busy because he was lonely. It helped that Lynnette had a career of her own and wasn't just one to laze around.
In fact, Lynnette had started playing at high end clubs, just like in Las Vegas, but the difference here was that Blake Yearwood had taken her on and she was going to sing in a music competition that was right here in New York in just a few months. She had also began recording her songs at a music studio that Yearwood owned in order to get them into music stores around the country.
Lynnette would gradually sing at bigger and bigger venues and Dave would always be at her side when she did. Dave could always do business while she was performing as he could do a lot with just a computer and a link. Dave had his own private shuttle and they would travel in style whenever Lynnette had a concert or was performing somewhere not in New York. Dave intended to travel with her, as he didn't want to be separated from her unless absolutely necessary. It had taken Letty so long to be reborn that he was still getting used to the fact that she was back at his side and would always remain there.
"I am," Lynnette promised, even as she handed him the pregnancy test she had used.
"This is great news!" Dave nearly whooped in excitement. "You need to see a doctor as soon as possible to determine how far along you are."
"I can't possibly be more than 6 to 7 weeks as that was when we were married," Lynnette said. "I was immortal before the wedding so I might've gotten pregnant slightly before that I suppose."
"It doesn't matter we'll just say it happened on our wedding night and nobody, not even your mother or siblings, have to know any different," Dave said.
"I doubt any of my siblings would care if I was pregnant slightly before, not even Spencer, as he already knew I was going to marry you. Mom might be a different story though. It might indeed have happened on our wedding night for all I know, so let's not get ahead of ourselves," Lynnette said.
"The doctor can tell us," Dave said and Lynnette nodded.
"I'll make an appointment," Lynnette agreed without arguing.
"Use my name to get an appointment by tomorrow if you have to," Dave told Lynnette firmly. "I'm anxious to know how far along you are. Don't let the receptionist give you the runaround and give you an appointment a week or two from now just because the doctor is extremely busy."
"I actually don't have a doctor, as my last doctor was in Vegas. I haven't been in New York long enough to even think about getting a doctor and really I don't need one considering what I am now. The only time I ever would need to see one is when I'm pregnant, so the doctor can confirm that I am and also help me give birth when the time comes."
"I hadn't thought about that, but you're right. What you need is an obstetrician one who specializes in women's pregnancies," Dave said practically.
"I want you to have only the best, so I'll ask around and see who the people I know recommend. While I know plenty of people who are doctors, in various fields, none of them are obstetricians."
"I would prefer a woman, not a man, as my doctor," Lynnette said. "I saw a lady doctor when I still lived in Vegas. Not that I had a chance to see her often, except for a checkup, because I was usually healthy, even before you turned me immortal."
"Luckily, women doctors, are pretty thick on the ground nowadays," Dave said grinned giving his wife a passionate kiss to show how happy he was with the news that she was pregnant. "That wasn't true in the past though."
"This is a century where women can do anything they want though, even become doctors," Lynnette said.
"True," Dave agreed. "I know plenty of women who are in businesses that used to be for men only. There were so many professions that denied women back in the past we both know that."
"Personally, I think men just wanted to suppress women as long as possible so that they couldn't prove they were just as competent and sometimes more so," Lynnette said
"That doesn't surprise me," Dave snorted in amusement at his mate's sardonic tone. "Men can be very arrogant I know this from experience. I can be arrogant too, but only when I need to be and I'll never be that way with you because you are half my soul. I intend to love you and cherish you for the rest of our very long lives."
"Arrogance isn't necessarily a bad thing so long as it's used in the right way," Lynnette said. "And as for that love and cherish thing I intend to do the same for you that you intend to do for me."
Dave and Lynnette hugged and kissed for a few minutes before continuing the conversation perfectly content to be together.
"But a lot of men use their natural arrogance in the wrong way," Dave said continuing the previous conversation. "Men, still try to suppress women, even in this century and sometimes they still succeed. Most men though can't browbeat a woman into doing what they want. There are plenty of laws now to protect women, but the problem is a lot of women don't know the laws well enough to protect themselves from the men that want to keep them downtrodden."
"I won't say they deserve their situation, just that they should learn the laws that concern them so they can't be fooled by men," Lynnette said. "A lot of men will keep trying to suppress women, even though this is a far better time for the most part then in the past."
"If anybody tries anything with you let me know I'll handle it," Dave practically growled.
"I doubt they will," Lynnette said. "I know how to punch somebody if I need to. A kick or punch in the privates gets men to back off."
"Ouch!" Dave said, his hands instinctively going to his package as if to protect them from Lynnette's kick.
"You don't need to worry about me doing that to you," Lynnette told him dryly with laughter in her eyes. "You are far different from some men I've had to deal with over the years. For one thing, even if I did hit you in the privates you would recover nearly immediately, because you're immortal and the pain would fade instantly," Lynnette said. "For another, you haven't done anything to make me do that, but I can't say the same, about other men I've met over the years."
"Sorry, instinctive reaction," Dave said.
"No, need to apologize, just that you don't need to worry about me hitting you, especially in that area," Lynnette said. "Now about that Dr..."
"I'll make some calls," Dave promised. "I should have a name for you in an hour or two."
"Let me know," Lynnette said, as she kissed Dave again before leaving his office.
Dave went back to work with a rather goofy smile on his face after Lynnette had left.

~~~Dave and Lynnette~~~
"You are about 6 to 7 weeks along," the doctor that Dave had found said.
Her name was Linda Balasingham.
"That basically means I got pregnant on our wedding night," Lynnette said, "and that's what I'm going to tell mom when I contact her to inform her that I'm pregnant. She'll be thrilled for me and for Dave."
"That's what every mother wants grandchildren to love and spoil," Linda said with a smile.
"She'll spoil them rotten," Lynnette agreed. "Of course, she lives in Las Vegas and has a job at Las Vegas University, but still, I'm sure she'll come up here to New York frequently to spend time with her grandchildren."
The fact that Lynnette had told Diana that she was welcome to use Dave's shuttles whenever she wanted to visit meant that her mother didn't have to waste the money to come and see her grandchildren or her daughter and son-in-law.
Living was so expensive now that having free access to one of Dave's first class shuttles meant that Diana could be a major part of her grandchildren's lives and not just see them a few times a year.
Dave had also brought the subject up before Diana had left to head back home and assured her the offer was made with his full agreement as he wanted to see her on a regular basis and for her to see her grandchildren when they came, regularly from both Lynnette and Spencer.
Diana had been very touched by Dave's offer made through her daughter, so she didn't even feel guilty for using one of Dave's shuttles free of charge to come to New York. Dave had also said that this offer was also for Roxie and Rocky they were family and they wanted to see her other two children on a regular basis too.
Diana was really beginning to like the way that Dave operated as he was generous, kind, loving and gentle, though she was sure he could be tough in business, which was fine.
"You know you snagged yourself probably the most eligible bachelor on the planet," Linda told Lynnette.
"I've been told that repeatedly by some people when they learn who I'm married to," Lynnette said her tone as dry, as the desert. "A lot of the circle that Dave should be part of if he cared about that are rather disappointed that Dave married me, as to that set I'm a nobody. I'm somebody without wealth or breeding, but since I'm a musician and I'm well on my way to being famous I would've had more money in just a few years. I might not have as much as they do, but that wouldn't have been true in say 10 years from now. As for breeding, those ladies often are useless and have no goals and no work ethic. Dave doesn't really care what they think and neither do I. They had plenty of opportunities to get a marriage proposal out of him and yet they didn't. It's not like he hasn't dated a lot of them over the years before he met me of course. That none of them got a ring on their finger means they shouldn't complain that Dave is now unavailable. They should realize that they lost and get on with their lives, as there are plenty of handsome, wealthy fish in the sea."
"You're right that the kind of women you were talking about often sit on their butts and do nothing except spend their fathers or husbands money," Linda agreed.
"And women like that never would've interested Dave as more than a temporary distraction," Lynnette said firmly. "He definitely never would've married one of them as he's way too independent for one thing to follow the antiqued rules that that set abides by. It is one of the major reasons that Dave and his family have never considered themselves part of their social circle though."
Lynnette didn't bother to tell Linda that one reason Dave and his family didn't consider themselves part of that ultra wealthy social circle where those that were part of it had inherited the bulk of their money was because they were immortal. Dave and his three children adopted or not would have been expected to marry someone from that same circle, if they were really part of that set.
Of course, the fact that Dave had adopted instead of marrying to have children was something of a black mark against him already if the Rossis were part of that set, because technically, his kids weren't related to him at all and to the people in that circle that mattered to them, but not to anybody outside of it.
Actually, most of those that inherited their wealth would've just married someone by arrangement and never adopted at all, as that would mean that those children didn't share the same blood, which shouldn't matter, but often did, to a certain type of people. Dave was very wealthy that was true but that didn't mean he agreed with societies rules.
"Most of that circle that inherited that their wealth instead of making it a dollar at a time never would have adopted and married by arrangement. Those people can do what they want of course, but when you arrange a marriage it is more often than not unhappy," Lynnette said.
"In my experience that's very true," Linda said.
"I agree with you there," Lynnette said. "Also, it wouldn't surprise me to discover that those men in arranged marriages have a mistress or even several."
"No. it wouldn't surprise me either," Linda agreed wholeheartedly.
"Dave and I love each other, so that will never happen with us. Both of us married for love, not by arrangement, which makes a huge difference in a marriage," Lynnette added.
"I bet you your husband was excited when you told him you were pregnant," Linda said.
"Yeah, he was very excited," Lynnette agreed smiling as she remembered Dave's reaction. "He insisted I use his name to get an appointment right away, as he wanted to know how far along I was. So did I, but I don't have his clout."
"I couldn't say no, when I was asked to see you right away," Linda said.
"You are the top obstetrician in the city and Dave wanted only the best. He's kind of anxious to know how far along I am, as this will be his first child ever or at least it will be the first one that is related to him."
"I can understand that," Linda said. "I had heard rumors about how he has three children."
"He does, but they are all adopted they're not his by blood," Lynnette said. "That doesn't mean he doesn't love them, just that they're not really related to him, except through adoption. In fact, my older brother just married his only daughter Michelle just a few weeks after I married her father."
"Well, that's surprising," Linda blinked in surprise.
"Why is it so surprising?" Lynnette asked curiously.
"Two children in the same family married to another two people in the same family," Linda tried to explain why she was so surprised.
"But those children aren't directly related, even if me and Spencer are," Lynnette said. "If you think about it, it's really not all that unusual, as it has happened a lot in the past, though not necessarily with somebody so wealthy as Dave and his daughter, but still..."
"True, I'm just surprised, that your husband would allow it to happen as most of the wealthy set are very uptight about who they marry," Linda said.
"Dave has never been like that. I would never have fallen for him if he was," Lynnette said. "He can't stand most of those in that circle actually, which is one reason he never could have married one of those spoiled daughters of the ultrawealthy, the ones that inherited their money. His children aren't spoiled at all, as I've gotten to know them and they actually work for a living, even though they do have money. They aren't like those that inherited their money at all at least for the most part. Because Spencer introduced me to Dave, we are now married and I'll always be grateful to my brother for introducing us."
"I would think that someone, as wealthy as David Rossi would act like he's above the little people," Linda said.
"It's a stereotype a reason," Lynnette agreed, "but no, Dave's nothing like that. Most people of his wealth would've just married and been done with it, but he's not one to do so unless he's truly in love. Those who married by arrangement often dislike or hate someone like me and that's not something that Dave would ever do. I mean why make yourself miserable? Also, most wealthy people never would have adopted, because those children wouldn't be directly related."
Lynnette didn't bother to tell Linda why Dave had never married before they had met. Dave never would've married at all if he hadn't found her, his mate, who had finally been reincarnated.
"I suppose everybody's different, which is something I know. It just surprised me that two people from the same family married into the same wealthy family that's all," Linda said.
"I don't blame you for being surprised," Lynnette said. "That's just the way it happens sometimes that's all. My brother met Michelle, because Dave wanted to get him to work on a project that was just starting and I met Dave through my brother."
This was not the complete truth, but fairly close considering the circumstances of how she had met Dave. It was close enough to pass muster anyway and that was all that mattered. Linda didn't need to know every little detail and really, it wasn't any of her business though she could understand Linda's curiosity, so didn't mind assuaging it at least somewhat.
She knew very well that her marriage to Dave was very controversial not that she or Dave cared about that, but that didn't mean that people wouldn't ask questions. So long as those questions were from pure curiosity and not for other reasons Lynnette didn't mind answering.
Lynnette left Linda's office not much later with a spring in her step as she now knew that she had probably gotten pregnant on her wedding night and that would make Dave happy. She had been wanting children for a long time that went all the way back to her first life where she was murdered without remorse by three idiots that should have known better.
If only those three men had left well enough alone she and Dave would've left in a few weeks at the most. Also, she had been living there for quite a while before those men had done the totally stupid. Why they had suddenly decided to set her home on fire while making sure she couldn't escape she didn't know, as it simply didn't make any sense. She was sure they had been extremely drunk when they had done what they had and drunk men were rarely reasonable or rational and if they'd had a grudge against her, as Letty, the liquor would have given them courage to do what they had. There had been a pub in town, which a lot of men went to, to socialize.
It wasn't a place she had frequented, but then women didn't drink in public back in those days. She wouldn't have been welcome and she knew it.
Lynnette drove her car home, as she was anxious to tell Dave the news. She knew that he would be very excited to have it confirmed that she got pregnant on their wedding night would make him happy.
