Chapter 17
"I heard what you said to Roxie you know," Dave said once they had finally gotten out of the chair they were both sitting in.
"Oh, you did. I didn't realize you were anywhere around," Lynnette said, looking surprised at Dave's admission. Surprised but not angry.
"I only caught the last couple of minutes and decided not to bother you, so headed here to my office. I figured I might as well get some work done while you were busy with your sister," Dave explained. "I could tell from where I was standing that what you said, hit the mark. Roxie knew you were right in what you said."
"She did, which is why she didn't argue with me, because she knew I was correct," Lynnette agreed, not at all upset that Dave had eavesdropped on a private conversation, even if he had only caught the tail end.
"Roxie needed a reality check," Lynnette explained. "She needed to realize that mom only harps on the subject of her settling down because she wants to see all her children settled with people that will make them happy. That she got two of her children settled about a month apart was a red letter day for her but only encouraged her to badger her other two unmarried children.
"Roxie, of course responded like a teenager instead of a grown woman when mom starts up on her, finding a man and giving her grandchildren. Really, all I did was point out how much mom sacrificed for all of us, as even university professors don't make that much and while that man sent the minimum amount in child support payments, as little as he could get away with legally, for the three children he knew about, that doesn't mean that things still weren't tight financially, especially when you add an unexpected child, namely me.
"That money that, that man that I share DNA sent for my siblings was gone in no time, as it's not like he went out of his way to send more than he absolutely had to. I'm actually kind of surprised he even bothered to send child support, as it's not like mom had the money to take him to court and even if she did, he still could've dodged having to pay, even if the judge had ruled in mom's favor. All I did was remind Roxie about how much mom has sacrificed for her and the rest of us."
"Well, you accomplished your goal," Dave told her smiling kissing her tenderly. "Roxie will now hopefully start to act more maturely, at least when that particular subject of her settling down comes up, as she is mature in most ways."
"Yeah, she is," Lynnette agreed, smiling. "Rocky, however, will likely never grow up, as he still acts like a teenager in a lot of ways."
"Well, you can't have everything," Dave said shrugging philosophically. "I suspect that's just his personality. He's the comic relief when situations get tense. He can make people smile or laugh. Now, why don't we go check on our son, as he should be awake from his nap since I'm assuming that's where he is in his crib."
"Yeah, that's where he is," Lynnette agreed, as she and Dave held hands after they'd exited Dave's office and headed for the nursery that had been set up for some time before Derrick had actually arrived.
~~~Dave and Lynnette~~~
Meanwhile, while, Lynnette and Dave were walking towards the nursery where their son was in order to spend some time with him Michelle was staring at the pregnancy test that she had just taken in disbelief. Then the disbelief dissolved, and the joy finally surfaced when she realized that there was a plus symbol on one end to indicate she was finally pregnant.
Finally, Michelle thought wanting to jump up and down in joy. Her patience had finally been rewarded. She had so much wanted to have Spencer's child, but it hadn't happened in the last few months not like her father and Lynnette, who had gotten pregnant right away.
It looked like Derrick was going to grow with someone who would be a sibling to him. Michelle knew that Spencer would be overjoyed when he found out that she was pregnant. So would Diana, Spencer's siblings and her father.
The first person that should be told was her mate, though, and the others could wait until she told him, and then they could tell the rest of the family together.
Michelle tried her best to contain her joy, as she didn't want anybody to ask why she was, so happy because then she would have to explain. If she had to explain then the secret would be out and Spencer would find out, just not from her.
Michelle put the pregnancy test in her pocket so that Spencer wouldn't find it in the trashcan and besides, the test was proof that she was indeed pregnant.
Spencer came into the room just then with a book in his hand, a not in the least unusual sight. Spencer was always reading something. Of course, lately he didn't read as much as he had used to, because he was lonely, because he now had Michelle as well as a nephew he adored. He also had his sister living in the same house and his siblings and mother were frequent visitors.
"Spencer," Michelle called quietly, and Spencer looked up immediately. "Before you start in on that book you got from dad's library I have some news."
"I'm listening," Spencer said simply, as he put his book on the side table that was by the bed and then took his mate into his arms.
"I was going to tell you this later since you weren't here, but since you came in just now, I might as well go ahead," Michelle began, and then withdrew the pregnancy test from her pocket. "I am finally pregnant something I know that we both desperately wanted."
Spencer blinked and then blinked again, as if trying to process the information then he gave a loud whoop! A sound that was so unlike Spencer that Michelle just stared at him in amazement and astonishment, all rolled into one
"You are?" Spencer asked disbelievingly and the joy radiating from him made Michelle smile.
"I am," Michelle promised him handed him the pregnancy test.
"This is great news!" Spencer said smiling from ear to ear, a rather unusual expression for him, as he wasn't the type to smile very often much less grin like a maniac.
Spencer hugged Michelle tight and kissed her on the lips, and then started kissing his way down her long, elegant neck causing Michelle to groan in pleasure.
"I'm so happy Mellie," Spencer told his mate once the two of them had come up for air.
"So am I, as you know how much I've been wanting to have your child," Michelle told him even as she kissed him tenderly again.
"Your father is going to be beside himself," Spencer said. "You know how much he's been wanting grandchildren out of you and me."
"True enough," Michelle agreed laughingly. "Your mother is also going to be over the moon as well as all three of your siblings and my two brothers."
"Yeah, they definitely will be," Spencer agreed, as he hugged Mellie again.
Michelle reveled in the affection as Spencer wasn't usually one to be very demonstrative. He didn't usually hug her like he was doing now or get excited. He just wasn't the type that was a hugger or one to get excited about much at all, but he was genuinely excited about becoming a father in a few months.
It had been something he wanted for the last few years Spencer had told Mellie, but he had figured it would never happen.
Michelle had then asked him why he had fought so hard against them getting together and Spencer had explained while he had wanted to settle down that he had figured that once Michelle had really gotten to know him that she would dump him like yesterday's garbage, so we had wanted to put himself through the emotional pain of that happening once she realized that he wasn't who she thought he was.
The voice of his father in his head, claiming that no woman would want him for a permanent relationship and had kept repeating over and over how useless he was hadn't helped. It had been like a recording, set to repeat every time Spencer even thought about certain things.
Finally, though, William Reid's voice had been banished for good once Spencer had gotten together with Michelle.
Michelle had been absolutely enraged at that, even though she had known that the voice of Spencer's father had been taunting his son with nasty untrue things in his head for years, things that William Reid had actually said that Spencer remembered, because his memory was eidetic.
Still being reminded of what a nasty piece of work, the Senior Reid was didn't help Michelle keep her temper.
"I'm so happy about this," Spencer told her. "So how far along do you think you are?"
"I would say no more than a month, perhaps six weeks, but no more than that, as I've been trying pregnancy test every month like clockwork. Also, my menstrual cycle is pretty regular and I haven't had that in at least three weeks. I'll have to go to the doctor to tell him and how far along I am."
"Well, you need to make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible, as I'm anxious to know. You'll probably pretty accurate in your estimate, but still it doesn't hurt to have it confirmed," Spencer said.
"I was already going to make an appointment with my doctor Michelle told him. "I also want it confirmed that I'm 5 to 6 weeks along maybe seven at the outside," Michelle told him. "I would've gone ahead and made that call if you hadn't come in so soon so I thought it was better if I tell you first, then make that appointment."
"You go ahead and do that then," Spencer said as he gesturing her towards the communication center. "Once you do that we need to tell the others. We'll have to call mom and tell her and also Roxie and Rocky. As for your father and Lynnette, we can tell them at dinner."
"I think we should tell my father and Lynnette before you contact your mother as he deserves to be the first to know, and then after that you can tell the others."
"All right, we'll do it your way," Spencer agreed without arguing kissing Michelle on the lips again. "Let's go tell Dave and my sister that you're pregnant. You know that both of them will be very happy for us.
"Yes, they will be," Michelle smiled kissing Spencer passionately again.
Once the kiss broke both Michelle and Spencer left their suite of rooms, hand-in-hand and headed to inform Dave and Lynnette about the upcoming birth.
