Chapter 20
Several months later
"What's for dinner tonight Dave?" Lynnette asked her mate, as she sat on his lap while he sat in his office chair, which was very comfortable and real leather.
"It is around that time you know," Lynnette added.
"Well, I thought we could get to Kelly's catering again," Dave said.
"I know how much you loved them for our wedding and it was always in the back of my mind that we could have some meals out on the veranda. It's certainly warm enough to have a meal outside today and I thought it could be just the two of us. I've already arranged everything and gave Giorgio the night off."
"That sounds splendid," Lynnette beamed him. "What about Spence and Michelle, though? Michelle is five months pregnant and she's bound to be hungry, since I know how hungry I was by my fifth month."
"Don't worry, Spencer is taking her out to dinner," Dave said. "It'll be just the two of us for dinner tonight. Bertha of course, will look after Derrick and come and get us if there are any problems, not that I expect any. Spencer thought Mellie deserved a night out since she's been stuck in the house for over a week now. Spencer knows that once the baby comes, they probably won't be going out to dinner very often until they're at least a few months old, so if you put it in that context, Mellie definitely deserves the night out. As for James and Tristan, since they are still living here as well they are perfectly capable of buying themselves dinner or eating something from the kitchen," Dave explained.
"And why didn't I know about this?" Lynnette wanted to know sounding upset that she hadn't known about Spencer's plans. "I would think somebody would've told me before now."
"Hey, calm down, sweetie," Dave said. "I know you usually know everything that goes on in this house, but Spencer and Mellie deserve their privacy. Spencer only told me so I would know they wouldn't be here for dinner, which is why I arranged Kelly's Catering for tonight and gave Giorgio the night off. I know how much you enjoyed her food, so I thought this could be a special meal between the two of us."
"I do appreciate your thoughtfulness," Lynnette told Dave calming down. "It's just that Michelle usually tells me everything, as we've gotten quite close."
"Michelle didn't know that Spencer was taking her out to dinner until he told her in time for her to get dressed up for it. as they're going somewhere really fancy," Dave explained.
"Well, I guess that's OK, then," Lynnette said grudgingly. "Spencer is really good at keeping secrets."
"You might know a lot of things that go on in this house, but you don't need to know everything Lyn," Dave told his mate gently using her nickname. "Spencer and Mellie deserve their privacy. You don't see Spencer and Michelle being upset because they don't know everything that's going on with us do you?"
"No," Lynnette said subsided. "There are just some things that I don't want share with my brother and that he wouldn't want to hear about in any case."
"Then why did you think you needed to know Spencer's plans to take Mellie out for a nice dinner ahead of time?" Dave asked her gently.
"I guess because I'm used to knowing everything that goes on in this house," Lynnette confessed. "I usually hear everything that's going on."
"You're a busybody," Dave told her. "I'm not saying that to upset you and I'm not claiming it's a bad thing, but it tends to make people who are want to know everything whether they need to know or not. When those people learn that they don't know as much as they think they do they tend to get upset that they didn't know of some event or some secret that happened without their knowledge."
"I guess you're right," Lynnette admitted as she cuddled into Dave.
"And any case, Kelly's Catering should be here shortly and then we can have a nice private meal while Spencer and Mellie enjoy their own dinner at Ronaldo's and James and Tristan can either order something and have it delivered or go out to some restaurant.
"So, I thought Kelly's only did catering for a big events like weddings or birthday parties," Lynnette questioned. "I wouldn't think they'd do just a dinner for two."
"The catering is only one part of their business," Dave explained.
"They also do dinner parties or a meal for just two people, though that portion of their business is relatively new in the last year or so."
"So, Kelly has expanded her business just since we got married," Lynnette said, and Dave nodded.
"Yes, apparently our wedding, as well as Spencer's and Michelle's has had a lot of catering jobs coming her way, as more people have been ordering from her since. The two weddings were the biggest events she had ever handled where a lot of big money people were present. After she catered the two weddings, which were big and important events, there were so many orders, Kelly had to hire more staff in order to accommodate the uptake in business, and that just expanded to include meals for smaller groups. They now have a menu of what you can get if you want a meal for just two people or a whole group."
"Well, I'm glad she's doing so well as that means she'll stay in business," Lynnette said pleased. "I'm happy that me and Michelle were able to help her expand her business. She's a nice person and her food is out of this world, so she certainly deserves much success."
"Kelly was so pleased about the uptake in business that she was happy to cater a meal for the two for us," Dave said
"Well, I'm so glad I could help her out," Lynnette said, "as I really liked her and she deserves all this good success she can get."
"She does," Dave agreed. "As I told you at the beginning of our conversation, I always had it in the back of my mind to see if we could have some meals catered from her since you like the food so much and this is just the first opportunity that I've had to implant that idea."
"Well, it was certainly a very good idea," Lynnette said, kissing him passionately for his thoughtfulness.
"They should be here in just a minute, as this is the time that they're supposed to arrive," Dave said, looking at the clock on the wall of his office.
Just then, the doorbell rang proving that Kelly's catering could be right on time.
"I'll let them in and lead them out to the veranda so they can set up," Dave said, as he rose to his feet and headed for the front door.
~~~Dave and Lynnette~~~
Lynnette studied the spread of food that had been left by the catering staff once they had set everything up before they had departed, saying they would be back for the equipment tomorrow. It was like a mini buffet; it definitely was not as large of one that they'd had for their wedding reception. Of course not, since there were only two of them and not a bunch of guests that had to also be fed.
"You really went out of your way this time," Lynnette told Dave. "This is all the things that we had at our reception, just in smaller quantities since there's only the two of us."
"I had Kelly prepare it especially, since you liked the food that you chose for the reception so much," Dave explained, even as he put his arms around her shoulders from where he was standing behind her.
Dave pressed a kiss onto the back of her neck after he moved her hair aside.
"And you remembered everything we had?" Lynnette questioned.
"I could hardly forget the happiest day of my long life. It was a defining moment for me. It is imprinted on my memory forever," Dave told her sincerely. "The day we were joined in marriage for all time, even if everyone doesn't realize that, except for very few. I will remember everything about that day clear as a bell. The food, the decorations, who was there to see us wed, the music and the song you wrote just for the wedding that you sang for me, your voice soaring over the audience sounding like an angel that had been sent down from heaven just for me. I remember our first dance, which was my favorite part of the night other then you, singing the song you wrote, as I got to hold you in my arms for the entire song."
Dave smiled reminiscently in remembrance.
"That is so sweet and endearing Dave," Lynnette said with tears forming in her eyes. "You certainly have a very good memory," Lynnette added in a teasing tone having quickly gotten over her first reaction to Dave's words. She was touched at her mate's speech, as she could tell he sincerely meant them, and that it had indeed been the happiest day of his long existence when they were joined in marriage. She turned around in his arms and kissed him passionately. "Let's eat shall we before it gets cold?"
"Sounds good to me," Dave agreed, smiling, kissing away the few tears that had fallen that were on her cheeks. He led Lynnette over to the two person table that was covered in a white tablecloth with a candle in the middle and two plates, one on either side. Their only scenery was the stars, as it was late enough that night had fallen. They could see the stars perfectly clearly in all their glory, because there were no lights to interfere with the sight. The ones inside had been mostly turned off, so they wouldn't interrupt the glorious view of a sky, full of stars. With the warm breeze that was blowing, it was absolutely the perfect night for dinner outside on their own veranda.
"So shall we fill our plates, my lady?" Dave asked his mate smiling at her.
"Yes, we shall, kind sir," Lynnette answered playfully, as she picked up the plate from her side of the table and headed for the buffet.
Dave followed her silently and let Lynnette have first pick of the food before he started to fill his own plate.
The two walked back to the table and sat down in the chairs on either side, picking up their silverware from the napkins they had been placed on.
The two sat in silence for a while, enjoying their food, just like they had at their reception, just without people trying to barge in to their privacy. Some people didn't know how to leave others alone, even at an event as glorious as a wedding, especially someone like Dave who was high profile.
So many people wanted to discuss business, even with the groom when he had just gotten married. Those people had no sense of decorum.
As soon as they finished eating, Dave went over to the music player that had been set up in a corner and set it to playing the song they had danced to at their wedding.
"My lady? Shall we dance?" Dave said offering his mate, his hand, which Lynnette took without hesitation.
"This is so romantic," Lynnette sighed in contentment, as she put her head on Dave's shoulder.
"That was my intent," Dave told her, as he kissed her hair, smelling the scent of her shampoo. He kissed the top of her head gently and then added, "I don't want you to ever regret our life together. I want to show you every day how much I love you, how much I adore you and how I'm so proud of you. Proud of all you've accomplished."
"You're the one that invited Blake Yearwood to our wedding reception," Lynnette reminded him feeling she needed to give credit where it was due as it was only thanks to Dave that Blake Yearwood had been at her wedding in the first place.
"That's only because I want to see you succeed, as you have a very fine voice. Thousands of people deserve to hear your voice, to hear you play. I'll be with you every step of the way I promise," Dave swore softly.
"I can always conduct business while you're busy playing and singing as most of it can be done over a computer and communicators. I'll always love listening to you for as long as I live. Your voice is so pure, so filled with emotion, that people just can't help but respond."
"I will never regret meeting you, Dave, not even if we live 5000 years," Lynnette told him touched yet again at Dave's sincere words, even as she nestled her face into his shoulder. "I always knew that something was missing from my life, though I didn't know what that was until I started having those dreams of what happened to my previous incarnation."
"Our life together has just begun. Thank you for sharing your life with me and for giving me a son. You have made all my dreams come true," Dave told her softly kissing the side of her neck that was exposed to his sight and not covered by her long blond hair.
"You're more than welcome. It's not all one-sided you know as you've made me very happy too. I'll never regret us meeting, not if we live a million years," Lynnette told him smiling softly, as she lifted her head and kissed him on the lips.
The two fell silent and continued to dance together until the song ended minutes later.
