The Wondrous World of Pokémon! A world filled with mysterious creatures known as Pokémon, who come in all shapes and sizes. They live everywhere imaginable. On the land, in the seas and skies, and some even come from outer space. These creatures can bond with humans thanks to the special capture devices known as Pokéballs. Those who use Pokémon for battle are known as Pokémon Trainers. Fiore has defended a Local Mart from being robbed by the Pilferers, and, with the aid of two new rivals, Derek and Strayer, Latrell and Silver battled a powerful wild Froakie, with the latter managing to catch it. Blue has made it the Semifinals of the Basalt City Contest, and her next opponent is one of Cerulean City's Sensational Sisters, and a Gym Leader. Will Blue be able to overcome her and make it to the Final Round of the Basalt City Contest? And will her friends be able to make it to the Contest Hall in time to support her?
With Latrell, Silver, and Strayer running through the city
Latrell: C'mon! We gotta make it to th Contest Hall!
Silver: Yeah! Let's hurry!
Strayer: I don't know what's going on, but I don't have anything better to do, so I guess I'm with you two. Let's go!
In the Contest Hall's Arena
Lilian: It's time to kick off the Semifinals of today's Pokémon Contest! On my left, we have the rookie prodigy, it's Blue!
Blue: (Walks to her side of the arena as the crowd cheers)
Lilian: To my right, we have one of Cerulean City's Sensational Sisters! The oldest sister, it's Daisy!
Daisy: (Walks out onto her side of the arena, then waves and winks to the crowd)
(The crowd erupts in extremely loud cheers)
Blue: (Nervously chuckles) Wow... she's definitely popular...
Lilian: Alright, let's get right into it!
Blue: Pikachu, you're up! (Throws her Pokéball to reveal Pikachu)
Pikachu: Pika-Pi!
Daisy: Let's go, Starmie! (Throws her Pokéball to reveal a Starmie)
Blue: Starmie? (Pulls out her Rotom Phone)
Rotom Phone: Starmie, the Mysterious Pokémon. A Water and Psychic Type. This Pokémon has an organ known as its core. The organ glows in seven colors when Starmie is unleashing its potent psychic powers.
Blue: A Psychic Type, this'll be tough. Let's get the momentum with speed! Pikachu, Quick Attack!
Pikachu: Pika! (Rushes towards Starmie with Quick Attack)
Daisy: Uhh... what was it... Reflect!
Starmie: (Uses Reflect, which softens the blow of Pikachu's Quick Attack)
Lilian: Ohh! That Reflect will make physical moves useless for quite a while.
(The screen shows Blue's point bar going down)
Blue: Okay then, use Thunder Shock!
Pikachu: Pika-Pika! (Uses Thunder Shock, aimed at Starmie)
Daisy: Light Screen!
Starmie: (Uses Light Screen, weakening the blow of Thunder Shock)
Lilian: And now Starmie has set up a Light Screen! Now all of Pikachu's attacks will be weakened.
Blue: Pikachu! Thunderbolt!
Pikachu: Pika-Pika... Chu! (Jumps in the air and fires Thunderbolt at Starmie, managing to push Starmie back a bit)
Lilian: Ooh! Despite the Light Screen weakening the blow, Pikachu's Thunderbolt is still doing major damage!
(The screen shows Daisy's points going down, but Blue's doing the same, so the gap hasn't exactly closed)
We join Latrell, Silver, and Strayer still running, with the former's Rotom Phone floating in front of the trio as they run
Latrell: C'mon Blue!
Silver: You've got this!
Strayer: Wow, that girl with the Pikachu is kinda cute.
(Latrell and Silver just stare blankly at Strayer)
Back to the battle
Blue: Pikachu, Thunderbolt again!
Pikachu: Pika-Pika-Pika... (Jumps in the air)
Daisy: What was that move called... oh, right, Psychic!
Starmie: (Uses Psychic on Pikachu, trapping it in midair just before it releases its attack)
Pikachu: Pika! (Tries and struggles to break free of Psychic's hold, though he doesn't succeed)
Blue: What?!
We then join Fiore running through the city, watching the match on her Rotom Phone
Fiore: That looks even stronger than Ralts' Confusion! Blue, you've gotta win this.
We then cut back to the battle
Blue: Pikachu, break through!
Pikachu: Pi... Pi... Pika... (Struggles to push through, trying to use his electrical energy to do so, but isn't successful)
Daisy: Drop it!
Starmie: (Sends Pikachu plummeting to the ground with Psychic, making the Mouse Pokémon hit the ground hard enough to make a huge dust cloud erupt in the arena)
Back with the Male Trio
Silver: Pikachu!
Latrell: Is he okay?
Strayer: Pikachu's getting destroyed out there.
Latrell: That's why we need to be there and support them. Let's pick up the pace! (Starts to run even faster, with Silver and Strayer following behind)
Once again, we're back at the battle
(As the dust settles, we see Pikachu still standing, but he is struggling and looks ready to fall on the ground)
Pikachu: Pika... Pika... Pi...
Blue: Pikachu!
Lilian: Ooh! Pikachu's one resilient Pokémon! Unfortunately, that won't help Blue's points.
(The screen shows Blue's points going down even more, leaving her with only a fourth left, compared to Daisy who's only lost a bit over a tenth)
Daisy: Now, what was that move she loves? Got it! Hydro Pump!
Starmie: (Fires Hydro Pump aimed right at Pikachu)
Blue: Dodge it!
Pikachu: Pi- (Attempts to move out of the way, but flinches in pain) Ka! (Cries in pain as Hydro Pump hits him directly, sending him flying back and hitting the ground)
Blue: Pikachu!
Pikachu: (Struggles greatly, but manages to stand up and gets on all fours) Pika!
Blue: Pikachu, you're okay!
(The screen shows Blue's points going down a bit more)
Lilian: While Pikachu can still stand, Blue only has 2 and a half minutes left to make a major comeback! Can she do it?
Blue: We can do this, Pikachu! Run circles around Starmie! Quick Attack!
Pikachu: Chu! (Uses Quick Attack and gets close to Starmie, then starts running in circles around Starmie)
Daisy: Psychic!
Starmie: (Tries to use Psychic, but it can't pinpoint Pikachu's location and the attack fails)
Lilian: And it seems Pikachu's too fast for Starmie to catch!
Blue: Pikachu! Keep running and repeatedly use Thunder Shock!
Pikachu: (Keeps running around with Quick Attack, but uses Thunder Shock multiple times as he runs, damaging Starmie a bit)
Blue: Light Screen may be weakening our blows, but damage builds up over time.
Lilian: Blue seems to have employed an interesting strategy to damage Starmie, and it's working!
(The screen shows Daisy losing some points, leaving her with about 2/3 of her points)
Pikachu: Pika-Pika-Pika-Pika-Pika... (Starts running even faster as its electricity starts charging and focusing on its tail)
Blue: Pikachu?
Pikachu: (Jumps in the air as the electricity on its tail forms into a ball) Pika... Chu! (Does a front flip as the electric ball flies and hits Starmie right on the core)
Starmie: (Gets pushed back from the attack, but manages to stay on the ground)
Blue: What was that move?
Lilian: And in a shocking twist, Pikachu's learned Electro Ball!
Blue: Electro Ball? Nice going Pikachu!
Pikachu: Pika!
(The screen shows Daisy's points going down to about half)
Lilian: With only a minute left, Blue has a chance for a comeback!
We join Fiore still running toward the Contest Hall
Fiore: Pikachu's new move can help them turn the tables. Blue, don't lose this.
Blue: Pikachu, Thunderbolt!
Pikachu: Pika-Chu! (Jumps in the air and quickly uses Thunderbolt)
Daisy: Hydro Pump!
Starmie: (Uses Hydro Pump, and it clashes with Thunderbolt until the two bot bdecide to stop their attacks)
Pikachu: (Lands back on the ground perfectly)
Blue: Pikachu- (Stops in the middle of what she was saying when she notices a weird veil around Starmie make itself visible, then disappear)
Daisy: Hmm?
Lilian: It seems tha Light Screen and Reflect have worn off!
Blue: This is our chance! Pikachu, run at Starmie and fire Electro Ball back to back!
Pikachu: Pika! (Quickly runs towards Starmie while uses Electro Ball three times at Starmie)
Daisy: Hydro Pump!
Blue: Thunderbolt!
Pikachu: Pika... Chu! (Quickly stops himself in his run, then fires Thunderbolt, but the Thunderbolt changes its direction and envelopes around one of the Electro Ball, then hits the other two, connecting them like a chain, then it hits Starmie from the side of its body)
Starmie: (Shrinks back in pain from the Thunderbolt, then gets hit by every Electro Ball, sending it flying and hitting the ground)
Lilian: Ooh! Starmie takes a direct hit! Will it be able to stand after taking four super effective hits?!
Starmie: (Struggles, but manages to get up, when it suddenly gets paralyzed)
Blue: Yes! It's paralyzed! Pikachu-
(Suddenly, a buzzer is heard)
Lilian: That's time! Now let's look at the results! The winner is...
(We then see the screen, that shows that while Daisy did lose a lot of points, she was still slightly ahead of Blue)
Lilian: It's Daisy! Daisy has won the match and is moving onto the finals!
Blue: (Looks sad, but quickly forces a smile, then goes and picks up Pikachu) Pikachu, thanks a lot.
Pikachu: Pi?
Blue: I'm fine, don't worry. You were perfect out there. You should rest now. (Returns Pikachu to its Pokéball)
Inside the Dressing Room with Eevee and Diane, who were watching Blue's match
Blue: (Walks into the room)
Diane: Blue! Are you okay?
Blue: Diane! Yeah, I'm fine, thanks for worrying.
Eevee: Ee! (Jumps onto Blue's shoulder and nuzzles against her cheek)
Blue: Thanks, Eevee. We should go now, Pikachu needs rest. Good luck in your match, Diane.
Diane: Thanks! Alright, I should go now. I'll do my best.
Blue: (Walks out of the dressing room)
In the Contest Hall Lobby with Blue
Blue: Well, at least we tried, right Eevee?
Eevee: Ee?
Blue: C'mon, let's go. (Walks out of the Contest Hall with Eevee still on her shoulder)
Torchic: Tor? (Curiously looks at Blue as she walks out of the Lobby)
Outside the Contest Hall
Blue: (Walks out the door, then turns to her right and sprints off in no general direction)
Fiore, Latrell, Silver, and Strayer: (All make it to the door of the Contest Hall, and see Blue as she sprints off)
Latrell: We gotta go after her.
Fiore: Yeah, we should hurry.
Silver: Alright, let's- (He's cut off from Torchic suddenly jumping out of the door and accidentally hitting him in the face, knocking him down, then running off in the direction Blue went)
Strayer: You okay, man?
Silver: Yeah, I'm fine. Let's go.
Fiore: (Finally notices Strayer) Who are you?
Latrell: Long story, we'll explain on the way.
We join Blue sitting alone on a bench next to a fountain, looking somewhat sad, while Eevee is playing in the water
Blue: I tried so hard... but I still couldn't win. They all helped me train so much, and I still couldn't...
Eevee: Ee? (Jumps out of the water and sits next to Blue)
Blue: (Pets Eevee's head) I'm sorry, Eevee. All of your hard work went to waste.
Torchic: (Approaches Blue) Tor...
Blue: What kind of Pokémon are you? (Pulls out her Rotom Phone)
Eevee: Ee-Vee?
Rotom Phone: Torchic, the Chick Pokémon, a Fire Type. Torchic feels toasty warm if you hug it. It has a flame sac inside its belly, and the flames burn continuously as long as Torchic has life in it. Torchic is one of the three Pokémon new Trainers from the Hoenn Region can choose.
Blue: A Hoenn Region Starter. Just like Silver's Treecko. What are you doing here?
Eevee: (Goes back to playing in the fountain)
Torchic: Tor! Tor-Chick! (Uses its feet to mak a questionable drawing of Pikachu and Starmie)
Blue: Oh, you saw that? (Chuckles) You must've thought I sucked, huh?
Torchic: Tor! (Shakes its head)
Blue: Really? But, I couldn't win, even with a Type Advantage.
Torchic: Tor? Tor-Chi? (Tilts its head in confusion)
Blue: (Chuckles) You're cute. And you're funny. Where's your Trainer at?
Torchic: Tor?
Blue: Are you-
Eevee: (Accidentally cuts off Blue by splashing water out of the fountain, splashing Torchic in the process)
Torchic: TOR! (Jumps around frantically due to the sudden splash of water, then jumps towards Blue, with her holding onto the now shivering Fire Pokémon)
Blue: Eevee, Torchic is a Fire Type. It doesn't like water. Apologize.
Eevee: (Jumps out of the fountain and gives a regretful look) Ee...
Torchic: Tor, Tor-Chi!
Blue: Are you okay, Torchic?
Torchic: Chi!
Blue: That's good. Do you have a Trainer? They're probably worried sick.
Torchic: Tor. (Shakes its head)
Blue: Oh. Well, I should probably get going now. (Gently places Torchic down) I should go now. C'mon Eevee.
Eevee: Ee! (Jumps onto Blue's head)
Blue: Bye Torchic! (Waves to Torchic then begins to walk away)
Torchic: Tor! (Quickly runs and stands in front of Blue)
Blue: Torchic?
Torchic: Tor-Chi!
Blue: Do you... wanna come with me?
Torchic: (Nods its head) Tor!
Blue: Well... I guess that settles it. Go, Pokéball! (Throws a Pokéball at Torchic, then Torchic goes into the Pokéball and it shakes three times, then its button glows green to signify the successful capture)
Eevee: Ee!
Blue: (Picks up Torchic's Pokéball) Welcome to the team. Come on out! (Tosses Torchic's Pokéball into the air, and the Fire Pokémon pops out)
Torchic: Tor!
(Just then, Latrell, Silver, Fiore, and Strayer all run up to Blue and her two Pokémon)
Latrell: Blue! There you are!
Blue: Hey guys!
Fiore: Sorry we weren't there to watch you in person.
Silver: And that we didn't get here sooner.
Strayer: (Points at Fiore and Silver) You can blame that on the fact that these two took a wrong turn three times.
Latrell: Individually.
Blue: (Notices Strayer) Umm... Sorry, do I know you?
Strayer: O-Oh, sorry, I should've introduced myself. (Gets closer to Blue and shakes her hand) I'm Strayer. I'm from Lumiose City, in the Kalos Region.
Blue: Well, I'm Blue, I'm from Viridian City.
Strayer: (Blushes a bit) I saw your battle against that Starmie. You were amazing.
Blue: (Slightly blushes) O-Oh, really? Well, thanks, that's sweet of you to say.
Blue and Strayer: (So cute...)
Latrell, Silver, Fiore, Eevee, and Torchic: (Deadpan the two)
Silver: (Whispers to Latrell) Should we tell her-
Latrell: (Whispers to Silver) No. Let's just enjoy.
Torchic: (Starts pecking at Strayer's feet, prompting all the Trainers sans Blue to acknowledge its existence)
Silver: Hey! It's that Torchic from earlier!
Latrell and Fiore: (Start to laugh)
Latrell: Maybe its come back for Round 2.
Blue: (Chuckles and picks up Torchic) Nice to know you've met my new Pokémon.
Fiore: It's your Pokémon?
Blue: Yeah, I caught it just before you all showed up.
Silver: Well, I'm tired and hungry. We should head back to the Pokémon Center.
Strayer: Good idea, Charmeleon could use some rest.
Blue: Pikachu as well.
Latrell: Grookey and Pidgey too.
Fiore: Piplup needs some rest too.
Silver: Throw Onix and Froakie in too.
Blue and Fiore: Froakie?
Silver: It's a long story.
Latrell: We can explain on the way. C'mon, let's go! (Runs off towards the Pokémon Center, with everyone else following)
Sometime later after everyone's Pokémon have recovered, outside the Pokémon Center
Latrell: You're really gonna go, Strayer?
Strayer: Yeah, I'm still collecting Gym Badges, so I can't slow down now. I'll be headed to Cerulean City. Latrell, Silver, good luck to both of you in getting all eight Gym Badges. Blue, good luck with your Contests.
Blue, Latrell, and Silver: Thanks!
Strayer: Alright, I'm off. Who knows, I may run into Derek out there. Bye everyone! (Walks off)
Fiore: Hmm?
Latrell: Something wrong, Fiore?
Fiore: Oh, I'm fine.
(Blue's phone buzzes)
Silver: What's that?
Blue: (Checks her phone) It's Diane. She says Chocolate won the Contest and that she's gonna leave Basalt to find another Contest.
Fiore: Well, I guess we should hit the road again too, right guys?
Latrell: Oh, Arceus, no. I'm personally way too beat after today.
Silver: You can say that again.
Blue: Well, we already stayed in Basalt City for a week, what's one more day?
Latrell: Yeah, we can head out in the morning. Next stop, Cerulean City!
And with that, Blue's first Contest comes to an end. While she lost the Contest, she gained a new friend in Torchic. And Latrell and Silver bid farewell to the second Rival they found here in Basalt City, one who seems to have taken a liking to Blue. What will happen as our heroes head to Cerulean City for Latrell and Silver's next Gym Battle? Find out next time. As the Journey Continues!
