A black coat and blond hair.

It was like seeing a familiar shadow in the distance whenever he appeared on the island.

Kairi quietly watched as the mysterious figure looked out into the horizon, almost as if he longed for something— the melancholy look on his face said it all. The girl had never been more curious to know who this person was, or why they seemed to appear every so often. But a part of her thought it was best not to meddle.

Maybe it was due to the fact that whenever she did try to approach him during previous visits, he was already gone, which made it seem like she imagined the stranger.

But he was real, she was sure of that.

Still, it was strange. Besides the suspicious choice of clothing, there was something about the boy that reminded Kairi of her childhood friend. Someone that meant everything to her, even being apart from one another. She spent days, weeks, months, waiting for his return, but the day had yet to come. The little hope she held onto fizzled out with each passing day.

Oddly enough, the stranger's presence was reassuring. It made her feel less alone.

Maybe… I should talk to him…

But it was too late. The boy disappeared.

Kairi's heart sank as she stared at the empty space where the mysterious figure stood moments ago. The unwelcoming feeling of loneliness filled the air around her.

She needed to do something about it. No more waiting around.

Kairi was going to find out more about this mysterious boy the next time he showed up.

Little did she know, there wouldn't be a next time.

She felt confident at first when she went back to the island the following day. She waited and waited, but the boy never appeared. It was possible he decided not to go that particular day, it was bound to happen.

But then it happened again the next couple of days. No signs of him whatsoever.

Kairi really wanted to hold onto the little bit of hope she had left, it just seemed like the world was against her— it wanted her to give up. But she knew better than that.

Day after day, week after week…

Suddenly, everything had become a blur.

Kairi found herself going to the island out of habit, but she couldn't remember why. It was one of her favorite spots, she knew that much. However, it was unclear if there was something more waiting for her there. It was an odd feeling, like something was missing. She stopped visiting the small island after some time and went on with her life, never looking back after that.

Days, weeks, months, years…

It was nearly Kairi's 18th birthday and nothing had changed. She was still living her ordinary life on the main island, around the same people, with the same routines. Even though she enjoyed her time living there, she truly wished things were different for once.

The redhead leaned on the windowsill as she looked up at the twinkling stars outside, wondering if there was something more out there for her. The more she wondered, the more determined she was to find that out herself. Maybe taking a chance wouldn't hurt. She smiled as she made up her mind.

No more waiting around.
