A figure with orange wings protruding from his back headed to Academy Island alongside a plane carrying the people who passed the entrance exam at the Kaiba Dome. This was 14 year old Beck Hawkins and just like a certain brunette on the plane, he also used Elemental Heroes.
Everyone was eager to see what Duel Academy was like, including Beck.
'This is gonna be good.'
The plane landed at the harbor first as everyone on board got off.
Beck then touched down a few seconds later.
"I wonder what dorm I'll be assigned to." A brunette haired teen spotted him after he descended and walked over to him.
"Hey there." The teen waved.
Beck raised a eyebrow in response.
"Who are you?"
"Jaden Yuki. Nice to meet ya." He shook Beck's hand.
Jaden went on to mention that he wanted to become the next King of Games.
"Good luck." Beck muttered.
This was a difficult goal to achieve for any duelist.
A girl with light blue hair observed him talking to Jaden. She was intrigued with Beck.
This was Sara Shay, a first year student in the Obelisk Blue dorm.
"I hope to see what you're capable of." She smirked to herself.
The first years then went into the main building to find out what dorms they were assigned to.
Following a speech in the auditorium, Beck left to find the Slifer Red dorm.
His red uniform was a indicator that he was in the lowest ranked dorm on the island.
It took a while, but Beck made his way to the Slifer Red dorm.
'What kind of dorm is this?' He asked mentally. 'It resembles a outhouse more than anything.'
A unoccupied room was on the second floor of the outhouse like building and Beck opened the door to head inside.
He set his bag down on the floor and unzipped it to take some stuff out.
"Not bad." He whispered to himself.
This was something he could get used to during the four years he would spend at Duel Academy. When he was finished getting settled into his room, Beck left his dorm room to check out the campus from the air to make sure he didn't end up getting lost.
To the south was a building with a yellow roof and sides that was adjacent to another dorm.
It was the Ra Yellow dorm. The students housed here were extremely clever and intelligent just like the wielder of the Winged Dragon of Ra, Marik Ishtar.
Heading to the west, there was a building surrounded by a moat. It was the Obelisk Blue girl's dorm and male students weren't allowed to come there without permission.
Making his way back to the main building from the air, he felt like something was happening inside and wanted to check it out.
Wandering down a hallway, he followed what he was sensing and came across a duel that was about to end inside in a arena.
A armored figure with a sun behind it stood behind the duelist on the left.
"The Supremacy Sun, attack him directly."
The last of his opponent's life points had been reduced to 0.
After the duel came to a end, his opponent got to their feet.
"Thanks for the duel." The other duelist left.
Beck's presence was then felt.
"Oh, hey there." He greeted, approaching Beck.
"I came across the end of your duel while wandering down one of the hallways." Beck said. "What monster was that?"
"Want to find out." A Duel Disk was raised up. "I'm Ren Shadow and I challenge you to a duel."
Beck grinned, accepting the challenge.
In a different part of the building
A lot of students had left their classes, which included Jaden and his roommates.
"Do you understand what that teacher said? I fell asleep five minutes after he started talking." Jaden asked.
"I don't." Syrus answered. "I was awake the whole time, but I don't recall a thing."
"Neither do I." Chumley added.
"Hello, boys." A voice called out. Jaden and his roommates looked up and saw professor Banner heading their way.
"What's up?"
"There's a new student I would like for Syrus and Chumley to meet."
"Who?" Syrus blinked.
Jaden told his roommates about the encounter he had with Beck.
"Is he a good duelist?" Chumley asked.
"Only one way to find out."
When they entered the arena, a good amount of students came to watch the duel.
"We managed to make it in time."
"Who's dueling though?" Syrus asked.
They would soon receive a answer.
"I know who one of them is." A voice called out.
Jaden and his roommates turned to see a boy with black hair and gray eyes. He was Bastion Misawa, the smartest among the first year students.
"Hey there, Bastion. What are you doing here?"
"The same reason you're here obviously. To watch the duel." Bastion replied. "As for both duelists, one of them is Ren Shadow. He quickly defeated a proctor during the entrance exams."
"He must have some wicked skills." Jaden said, amazed.
Beck and Ren shuffled each other's decks and handed them back. Then the two went to different sides on the platform.
"You up for this?" Ren asked.
"Oh yeah." Beck responded.
"DUEL!" Both shout.
Beck: 4000
Ren: 4000
"I'll let you go first."
"With pleasure." Ren drew a card. "And I summon Sangan in defense mode." (3/1000/600) "That will end my turn."
"My move then." Beck drew a card. "I use Polymerization to fusion summon...Elemental Hero Sunrise!" (7/2500/1200)
"I've never seen a monster like that before." Jaden noted.
Syrus and Chumley were equally surprised. None of them were aware that there were different Elemental Hero fusion monsters.
"Now for it's effect." A card was ejected from his deck and when it was done, the deck was shuffled automatically. Beck had programmed that feature into his Duel Disk.
"I'll follow it by normal summoning Elemental Hero Heat." (4/1600/1200)
"And now my monsters will attack. Sunrise, go after Sangan." Beck ordered.
The three-eyed fiend exploded after being struck by solar energy Elemental Hero Sunrise generated.
"Sangan's effect activates. I can add a monster with 1500 or less attack from my deck to my hand."
"You're gonna need it. Heat, attack his life points directly."
Ren: 2200
"I place one card face down. That's it for me."
"In that case." Ren drew his next card from the top of his deck. "I activate the spell card Fires of Doomsday. This brings out two tokens which I'll release to bring out The Supremacy Sun." (10/3000/3000)
"The Supremacy Sun, attack Elemental Hero Heat." Ren ordered.
"Go, face down card. Favorite Contact! Sunrise and Heat are returned to my deck and fusion deck. Come on out, Elemental Hero Flame Wingman - Infernal Rage!" (6/2100/1200)
Elemental Hero Flame Wingman - Infernal Rage flew down onto the field after standing on top of a building.
"It gets a whole lot better. I return Favorite Contact to my hand from my graveyard with it's effect." The trap was ejected and placed back in Beck's hand for him to use later.
"Finally, I equip Elemental Hero Flame Wingman - Infernal Rage with Favorite Hero! Battle! Attack the Supremacy Sun with Flame Shoot!"
"Why?" Ren didn't understand why his opponent is attacking with a weaker monster.
"At the start of the Battle Phase, I activate the field spell Skyscraper from my deck." The field spell zone on his Duel Disk opened.
"I know what's coming next." Jaden was aware of Skyscraper's effect.
The Supremacy Sun then blew up after being engulfed by flames.
Ren: 2100
"I still have life points, so you haven't won."
"I'm about to because Favorite Hero has a second effect. I send it to the graveyard and allow Elemental Hero Flame Wingman - Infernal Rage to attack again."
"What?!" Ren exclaimed in shock.
What was left of his life points was burned away by a stream of fire.
The holograms faded away right after Ren's life points hit 0.
"Nice job." Ren told his opponent after the duel was over.
"You put up quite the fight. Want to duel me again some day?"
Both duelists proceed to shake each other's hand.
When they were done, Jaden and his roommates as well as Bastion approached them.
"That was epic." Jaden told him.
"I look forward to seeing what you're capable of one day." Bastion smirked.
"Same here."
"Want to get some dinner at our dorm's cafeteria." Jaden offered.
The four made their way back to the Slifer Red dorm.
