Hinata felt like the island was beautiful. The water was so CLEAR. She could easily see her feet in the water and the tropical fish and animals on the island were a sight to behold. Hinata felt like such a tourist. So green to the world around her. She has been on many missions in her life and she never really stopped to 'smell the roses'.
She guessed that was the term people used.
When she felt like Naruto and Sasuke weren't looking or were busy training she would take pictures with her camera of the scenery. The animals, they were foreign and different. Large lizards with scales that were green, but if they let you get close enough you could see that had a rainbow shine to it. It amazed her really. How beautiful like was. Is this the different wonders she would see as a diplomat? She had to have it. She had to have this lifestyle now.
Was this what it meant to live? She was enjoying herself so much!
Naruto, Sasuke and Hinata arrived three days ago and Hinata has done any and everything for her two lovers. They were regularly given a fresh-hot breakfast, lunch and dinner. She even had snacks in between if they were hungry. She had fresh clean clothes when they got their original ones dirty, she had water for them any time they needed them and towels.
While Naruto and Sasuke were busy, Hinata found time to train. It was so much water around them why wouldn't she take advantage of it. Walking on the water while practicing Hyuga clan techniques always proved to be good for the mind, body and soul. It reminded her of the nights she would train when she was younger and how at peace she felt.
Before she was dragged out that life and had to succumb to ROOT.
Recently, since she's gotten out the hospital, over the past few months she had been watching Naruto and Sasuke train while in the village. She would dib and dab in some of the fire and lighting elements, but now with no one really watching her she was able to freely explore it and noticed that her lighting movements were getting better and she wasn't bad handling fire at all.
Sasuke would tease on their breaks from training with Motoi that Hinata was actually training in avoidance because she was a master in it. How he had never seen her busy herself so much with training on elements she didn't really enjoy using.
On the fourth day after training the three of them sat down together and Hinata listened to Naruto and Sasuke's experience. Naruto was happy to say that his darker half had been handled.
"It's not like I defeated my 'evil side' or anything. I just, I don't know. Accepted him. My dark side is a part of me. It's my thoughts and how I believe I truly feel. I should just be more honest about it. I shouldn't just accept Konoha's new affection towards me. I shouldn't question it so much. I'll let them feel how they want to feel. I can't really say I forgive yet. I know I will never forget. I just know it's okay for me to not always be…cool with everything going on if that makes sense. I guess I'm owning the fact that I was pretty fake in the past and I want to be more authentic."
Hinata smiled at this. She handed Naruto some fresh water that she cut up some strawberries in. "I am so happy to hear you say that Naruto. I am over joyed to hear you come to these terms on your own."
Naruto smiled and took the water. Hinata introduced him to many tasty healthy options and he gladly was open to all of them, "Eh. I've heard you and teme tell me this stuff all the time in the past. So I guess I finally decided to accept it on my own." Naruto laughed at this and laughed at the small blush that graced Hinata's face from his teasing.
Hinata then looked at Sasuke to see how he was doing and gave him water with a lemon, knowing he wasn't a fan of sweets and probably wanted something that had a tart taste to it. Sasuke accepted the refreshing liquid and just shrugged his shoulders, "Turns out I'm not as mentally messed up as Naruto. I don't struggle with identity crisis."
Hinata didn't react to Sasuke's picking and put her hand on Naruto's knee to calm him from taking Sasuke's bait. Sasuke rolled his eyes at this. They could be no fun sometimes. "I guess my 'anger issues' wasn't really on Itachi like I made myself think for so long. Which I kind of already knew, especially after finding out everything Obito and Madara had done along with that toxic piece of shit Zetsu. Even after finding out the truth I still somehow put all blame on Itachi sometimes and that really bothers me sometimes how my brain works like that. Sometimes I would start to realize it wasn't his fault, but then I would sink back and blame him. Like it was a comfort for me. In reality I was angry at the village. That's why it was so easy for me to leave…sometimes I still want to leave."
Naruto and Hinata shockingly didn't react negatively to the confession. Naruto being the first to speak after taking a big gulp of his water, "I'm not surprised at all. It's pretty obvious. You are kind of a 'workaholic' like me and you've taken a long break from missions. Very unlike you. You don't really have the same, I guess 'passion' for Konoha like Itachi or I do. So, I can see why you can get so angry with the history behind the village. Do you feel like you're forced to stay here? Do you feel like I weigh you down on staying here?"
Sasuke was silent for a minute. He looked to be thinking pretty hard, "No. I don't think you're making me stay. I stay because I want to be with you two. I want a relationship with my brother, but I'm being honest when I say I absolutely cannot stand the village itself. How can you just annihilate a clan like that? How are people so quick to get over the death of innocent women and children? The Uzumaki clan? Aren't you the least bit curious what the hell happened to your mother's clan and why you and Karin are like the last fucking people from that clan aside from Nagato? How the hell did you all end up in orphanages? Why the hell were they using your mothers clan as a demon host recycling bin? It's crazy. I don't understand these things and that's why I cannot be so prideful to the village."
Sasuke didn't show the typical anger and rage when talking about the massacre of his clan. He was past it, it seemed like. Now he just seemed lost and confused. Maybe that was why he applied for Anbu, so he could figure himself out. He could be more to himself and he could bridge a gap between his ninja career and his home life if he separated from the ninja ranks that Naruto and his peers were in.
Hinata scooted closer to Sasuke and moved behind him to massage his shoulders. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling of having her so close along with the relaxing feeling. "This is all good Sasuke. Yes? I couldn't imagine you in the past this relaxed when talking about your childhood. This is something very hard to accept and move past and you are finally doing it. Talking about it. It's an amazing stepping stone. We'll be there for you every step on the way."
Sasuke took one of her hands and kissed it, he looked at Naruto for a minute before speaking. "Such encouraging words coming from a hypocrite. Why do you do this? You always want to help, but you never accept help. Ever. It's actually frustrating."
Hinata didn't feed into his words and continued to busy herself with massaging his shoulders. Sasuke took her by surprise and pulled her over his shoulder and had her right in his lap. She had made a light yelp sound and before she knew it she was looking up at Sasuke from his lap. Hinata heard a camera snap and looked at Naruto to see he had took a picture of the scene with her very own camera.
"You gotta admit it's a sight to remember Nata. I hardly catch you with your eyes so big and surprised." Naruto couldn't help but laugh at the two. He stopped and just smiled when Hinata's cheeks grew puffy.
"Aww come on don't be like that. Sasuke has a point. I mean, we see you TRYING Hinata. I can't take that away that you're TRYING. You meditate. You busy yourself. You cook, you clean you train. I mean you're trying to self-heal yourself as best as you can. Which is fine. It's not working because you've been doing this for months and not getting the results you want and we can see you're getting frustrated by that, but its good enough to keep you in some way balanced. I mean me and Sasuke have been a good sport about it too. I didn't even press on why you randomly wanted to put in your diplomat packet. I didn't press on what happened on your escort mission that made you want to do it as soon as you got to the village. I'm not the brightest person, but I can put two and two together."
Naruto smiled when Hinata shrugged her shoulders, a page she took from his book. He would do this tick constantly to avoid going deeper in a conversation. "Well since we're being honest Hinata. Now is the time to be open."
Hinata looked at Sasuke after he finished talking and saw that he has sided with Naruto on this and sighed when Sasuke started to run his fingers through her hair, trying to get her to relax enough to open up. "The mission was fine. It was simply enough. I escorted the client and…and she kept her distance from me the whole time. She looked at me like I was some sort of monster. I at first did not let this bother me because everyone acts that way about Hyuga eyes. She then requested a bigger room so she wouldn't have to be so closed in with me. She didn't talk to me the whole trip. I was okay with that. It made the mission go faster. When we made it to her destination…everyone was looking at me like I was some sort of monster. I finally saw a local samurai from their village, and he said that people knew who I was. I asked him to please explain and he said he knew that I may not wear the mask anymore, but I still carry myself the same."
Hinata looked at Naruto before looking off into nothing, "Who would have guessed that one of my targets was from her home village. My client that I escorted was the niece of one of my targets. I didn't really take on to using night life and the shadows until further down the line in ROOT. So I'm sure some people saw me in the beginning of my career eliminate a target. People didn't see my face, but they sawme. She probably saw me kill her uncle. I didn't understand how she could remember me. I was pretty covered, but the samurai said it was how I carry myself. I can't escape it. It's like every time I go on a mission I just sink back to who I was. Do I really do that?"
Hinata still looked off into the distance. Answering her own question, "I think I do. I was upset with the client for not just saying something. Maybe she was afraid, or maybe she was just one of those noble clients and felt I was beneath her. Because really who am I? I'm not an heiress anymore. The Hyuga's don't even claim me. Still, I didn't want to apologize for what I did to her uncle to her. To anyone in her family. I have no clue why Danzo wanted her uncle killed, I just did my mission. I told the samurai thank you, and I apologized if I caused any problems to him. He was very understanding, but the client before I left called me a monster under her breath. I said nothing to her and left."
Sasuke still was stroking her hair when he spoke, "You wanted to though. I would have wanted to. What would you have said?"
Hinata went to play with the sand beneath them, "That Danzo was feeling generous that day. He typically orders for the whole family to be killed. So, the only reason she was alive to treat me like scum beneath her feet was because Danzo woke up in a good mood that day."
Hinata looked at Naruto with curious eyes, "Do you think if I became a diplomat that I could better my image. I had no clue it was so…badNaruto. How can you be Hokage with someone like me attached to you?"
Naruto smiled at her and chuckled, "I'm sure there have been Hokage's labeled unmerciful. I can be one of them if they want to go there with the whole you and Sasuke situation. As for the diplomat thing. I think you would do amazing in it. Still, your image is already out there Hinata. We're old enough to the point that it's not going to change overnight. People are either going to love you or stay in the past and hate you. It's up to you if you'll make the most of it."
Naruto kept his eyes on her as he leaned over to give Hinata a peck on the lips. When he pulled away he dazed into her captivating orbs before speaking again, "Oh, and Hinata."
"Yes."
"You're going to start training after lunch. We're not doing these secret anymore. Okay?"
Hinata eyes widened slightly, but she nodded her head agreeing to Naruto, who smiled at her afterwards. "Good."
Sasuke couldn't help the smirk that came on his face. Well it would seem that Naruto did win the war.
Naruto said he'd move on to the next phase of his training when Hinata completed this. So of course Hinata wanted the best for Naruto and moved forward with the training.
She sat at the Falls of Truth and couldn't take her eyes off how beautiful the scenery was and how blue and clear the water was with the breathtaking view. "Yes, yes Hinata. Beautiful. Come on let's get started."
Hinata sat down in the middle of Naruto and Sasuke. She frowned slightly at Sasuke's crude manners, "There is no reason to rush."
Sasuke gave her a bland look, "I know the difference between admiring and stalling."
Sasuke moved in front of her and looked at her and Naruto, "Now let me help you. Forgive me for saying this Hinata, but you never are open. Little bits and pieces pop out about you because you just mentally can't hold it in anymore, but other then that you won't share anything with us. So, let me just help you…understand and correctly express yourself. Let us see what you've seen, if only for a few moments to better understand you and help us all heal as a whole."
Hinata immediately avoided eye contact with Sasuke and activated her Byakugan. She was already on the defense and was about to push them away. "I don't know about that Sasuke."
Sasuke's red eyes looked at her frustrated. One, he was upset that she was using her Byakugan in a defense effort against him. She was pushing him away. He didn't like the feeling one bit. Secondly, he wouldn't do anything she didn't want to do, so now he was losing his temper.
"Hinatajustlisten. I'm not going to do anything you are uncomfortable with. I'm not doing it to pry. Just let us in, why can't you do that? The moment we get close to seeing anything that resembles your past you clamp up. You know absolutely EVERYTHING about us. Past and present, how do you think this is fair? You've seen my fucking baby pictures Hinata, and I haven't seen not one old picture of you. What sense do you make of this? Also, don't just shut me out like that ever again. You've over exerted your eyes enough in the past, don't use them unless youintendto use them against me. You've caught me off guard multiple times Hinata, you do not want to see me upset and actually focused on you."
Naruto took Hinata's hand and locked their fingers together, "It'll be just me, you and Sasuke. No one else will know what is going on. What happened or anything that has to do with what's in your head. At the end of all of this we will still be here with you Hinata. We're not going anywhere."
Hinata squeezed Naruto's hand tighter and finally looked at Sasuke with her defenses crumbling, "Promise?"
Sasuke let out a breath of relief before taking Naruto's hand and cupping Hinata's face, "I put my life on it Hinata." He leaned over to touch his forehead against Hinata's, "Look into my eyes and just relax. Like you're about to meditate. Do your breathing exercises."
The rest seemed like a dream.
"You were a cute baby Nata."
Naruto looked at a baby picture of Hinata on the mantle of a fireplace in the Hyuga residence. He was standing beside Hinata and Sasuke as they were in front of a 5 year old Hinata and her very pregnant mother. Naruto smiled as he saw the similarities of her and her mother, "You look just like her."
Hinata didn't say anything as she looked at her late mother. Sasuke looked at the 'little Hinata' and couldn't help but comment, "You always had short hair. From a toddler all the way through the academy. This whole time you just wanted it that way."
Hinata gave a slight smile, "My mother always complained because she wanted to give me cute hairstyles. She wanted my hair long to do that…but I was a daddy's girl and always wanted to train with my father, so I wanted my hair short."
Naruto and Sasuke gave her shocked looks. Naruto was the first to respond, "You gotta be kidding me. You were that type of little girl? Always under your father? I would have never imagined it."
Hinata looked like she wanted to touch her mother, but refrained from it, "My father was a different man before my mother died. I was different too."
Hinata looked at the familiar sight of seeing her mother on her death bed. She was so pale and looked so weak. Her father looked weak. She forever remembered seeing her father cry for the first time at this moment, looking at her mother's white-grayish fading eyes.
She was holding an infant Hanabi. She didn't want to cry and wake Hanabi up. So she just sat in the chair, looking at her parents as her mother was drawing her last breaths. Her mother was sick. She didn't understand or know what exactly it was and still to this day she was lost. Reason why she struggled with the fear of getting sick to this day.
"Take care of Hinata, Hiashi. She just needs a little push, but she will be great. She will be what the Hyuga clan needs. The best leader for the clan. Just you wait and see."
Immediately adult Hinata turned to walk out the door, "If you want to watch, that is fine. For obvious reasons…I cannot."
Naruto and Sasuke left the room with Hinata after they stayed a few more seconds looking at young Hinata hold in her emotions from watching her mother enter the afterlife. It was becoming evident from an early age Hinata was used to and forced to suppress her emotions.
It didn't start with ROOT. Danzo was right all along. It started since she could walk.
Naruto was the first to pull Hinata by the hand to his arms and wrap her into him. He held her tight and Sasuke came from behind and embraced her. Still, Hinata would not let out a tear at the memory. Probably already numb to having it replay in her head personally for so long.
All Hinata could hear were the words, 'She will be what the Hyuga clan needs.'
One of the many Hyuga clan secrets. Hinata watched as her father came back with her smaller tiny form. They watched in silence as the Cloud village demanded blood for their own dying. Hinata didn't know why they just didn't point out that this man did in fact kidnap her and it was a retaliation from it.
"They were so scared to start a war. A war over the weak Hyuga child. How embarrassing I must have been to my father and family."
Naruto and Sasuke didn't say anything as they watched her uncle take her father's place. The hate in Neji's eyes. The start of the horrible Hyuga family dynamic. The continuation of the downfall of Hinata's life. How everyone was so caught up in their own misery that they couldn't see that they all were hurting.
Hinata turned and looked at Naruto, "Maybe when you are Hokage you will fight for the children harder than they did in the past with me and you Naruto."
Naruto and Sasuke watched the 'training sessions' little Hinata was partaking in. They watched her father practically beat her. Adult Hinata did not look phased by this, "If you two do not want to watch that is understandable. It is custom for Hyuga training to be so vigorous."
Sasuke looked at her like she was crazy, "You think this is normal?" He would deem his own father a sadist at times, but this, this was nothing that he's seen before in training with family. This wasn't even remotely close to being labeled as 'training'.
Hinata was being abused.
In return Hinata grew up so self-doubting and so anxiety written that she failed in almost everything. Which in return made the abuse continue and the cycle never broke until SHE broke.
Hinata continued to watch as her younger self hopelessly tried to fight her father off, "You have to learn young how to handle pain."
Naruto decided he was done looking at the scene and looked at the adult Hinata, "Would you train your children this way Hinata?" Surely she had to have known this was abuse and not training. Even he knew this was abuse and not coming from a loving family.
Then again Naruto was starting to realize like how he was confused with certain human emotions, so was Hinata. She was deprived of the same affection he was.
Hinata continued to watch as her father left her on the floor tattered and bruised and saw her sister come up to train with her next. She frowned as she watched herself hold back and take the assault from Hanabi. How stupid she was to think she was doing the right thing. "Iwant my kids to know that they shouldn't hold back. I of course want them to train in Hyuga clan techniques."
A familiar cold look crossed her face as she looked on at the 'training', "I want my children to excel in what I failed in."
Naruto didn't react or say anything to what she said, but he took her arm and turned her away from the scene. He was feeling sick to his stomach.
The night Hinata went into ROOT. Naruto was always curious of this night. He watched how her father called her into his study. How absolutely lost and defeated Hinata looked. How she agreed to leave with Danzo.
They continued to watch when her and Neji collided and the older Hyuga looked like he wanted to beg her to stay. To not go. Hinata pleaded with him to watch her sister. To make the Hyuga clan something more.
It was a sad scene to watch. Sasuke and Naruto couldn't imagine living it.
Hinata looked at her memories with no real emotion to it. She barely acknowledged when Naruto held her and whispered apologies to her. The memory played in her head so many times she spoke like she was on auto-repeat as she looked on at the memory, "It's okay Naruto. It was my choice."
She finally snapped out of her trance when Naruto took her face to look at him, "No. Hinata. This was not your choice. They never gave you a choice. Be angry about it, it's okay to be angry about it because I'm furious about it."
When Danzo trained and spoke to Hinata, from the outside it would look like a father-daughter type of relationship. Something she always wanted. What she always strived for.
He never called her Hinata, and when he came up with the name Wire it was like it was a bonding experience between Danzo and Hinata. Danzo was present when Hinata accomplished her first assassination mission. He observed her use her chakra wires, more than likely to see how potent it was.
Sasuke watched the excitement run across Danzo's face. He imagined that Danzo probably felt like the luckiest man alive to come across Hinata and this new ability. "Hinata. Do you see the difference now? Of what it really means to have some one care about you? Look at how Danzo looked at you."
Hinata looked at Danzo. She saw what Sasuke was talking about. Just seeing the man, even in a memory made her want to just talk to him one last time like they used to in the past. She couldn't help how her eyes watered, "It…this was all I had. ROOT was all I had. Everything made sense back then."
Sasuke took Hinata's hands and molded them with his own. He touched their foreheads together and whispered for her to not cry, "Look how Naruto and I love you. Everything from back then, throw those feelings of love away because it was all lies. Do you believe me?"
All Hinata could do was hug Sasuke and nod her head.
Wire walked through a now empty house. The house wasn't exactly empty, more so everyone in it was no longer viable. Wire walked through the halls and double checked all the rooms to make sure she was successful in eliminating the family. The home floors were a beautiful hard wood floor that was flooded with blood. Organs exploded and littered everywhere.
Naruto looked at Wire. His eyes traveled down to her feet where he heard squishing sounds. The floor was so flooded with human vitals that it sounded like she was walking on the ground that just had a heavy rain storm.
It looked like it didn't bother her. Sasuke and Naruto would assume that it didn't bother her because this wasn't the first time she had done this. While it looked like Wire could care less and was going through the motions, Sasuke and Naruto turned to their Hinata and saw utter fear course through her face and her whole body shook.
They've found out her darkest secret.
Hinata looked at the memory and purposely avoided looking at Wire go into the nursery room. "I-I-I am being h-honest when I say it wasn't a lot of missions like t-this. I…I wasn't. I just didn't do a lot of m-missions like this."
She wasn't being honest. She knew that.
Naruto knew that and so did Sasuke. Their faces told her they knew.
Hinata couldn't stop herself from crouching down and tucking her head in between her legs. Naruto crouched down and held her as she let out a miserable and pain filled scream. Sasuke crouched down and rubbed her back whispering soothing words to her as she cursed the day she was born and begged for forgiveness.
"This is when I was first assigned to Naruto."
Naruto watched in amazement how well Hinata blended in nature. How she would put her body in such horrid conditions just to remain unseen and gather information. There were situations that he would be out training and a kunai would whizz straight past her and sometimes it would slice her skin, but she was able to camouflage with the environment so well he didn't notice her, and she didn't say a sound.
"After that situation is when I started to use my Byakugan for more information gathering missions."
The rest of the memories were really almost like a stroll in memory lane for them. When Hinata first made contact with Sasuke. How she spoke to the two males and how much the trio over all couldn't stand one another for almost a year. Then life happened. Naruto lost his sensei and overall couldn't take the lies anymore. The lies he had with himself and the lies he made up between Hinata and Sasuke.
Sasuke smiled when he saw Naruto first cornered Hinata and kissed her. He watched how the two got a head start of their relationship before him and he was glad they were able to have one another at that time.
Naruto watched the interaction when Hinata was aiming to kill Sasuke again for attacking Danzo. How realization hit her, and she ended up killing Danzo instead. The horrible things Danzo said to her.
Sasuke watched the dead corps of Danzo come to life and say haunting words to Hinata as he was aiming to stab her. How she was in such a mental turmoil that she was going to let him. How Naruto stopped it from happening and literally knocked Danzo's head off his body. The best thing Sasuke has seen Naruto do yet.
They watched the argument between Naruto and Hinata before they went off to pursue Zetsu. Leading to the final moment of her lighting her and Zetsu up like a firecracker.
Sasuke separated from Hinata and looked at her with onyx eyes. Hinata had this nervous smile on her face. Naruto leaned over and nuzzled his nose to her cheek until he heard her make a squeak sound. He wanted her to know that they were still there and not going anywhere. "How do you feel Hinata?"
Hinata looked at the two and smiled. She turned her head towards Naruto that had his nose on her cheek. She kissed Naruto in a bold move and pulled him into her arms. Hinata leaned back onto the ground and pulled Naruto on top of her. The blondes eyes widened, and he smiled into the kiss.
Hinata pulled back and gave Naruto a dazzling smile before she looked at Sasuke. She reached for the young Uchiha and was happy that he obliged with no sarcastic remarks. Sasuke wasted no time in shoving his tongue in her mouth and enjoying some of the rare times Hinata was so free.
Naruto littered her neck with kisses as her and Sasuke had a light make out session. When the three separated Hinata leaned her head back on the ground and closed her eyes.
"I never really shared how I felt. I never really thought it was all worth sharing. Thank you. Thank you for forgiving me. Thank you for everything."
Naruto hugged her from the side and buried his face into her neck, "Thanks for allowing us to be there with you. This is just a good beginning for us Hinata. We have to keep working on it. Ya know? We won't judge each other of our past, but we have to make sure we don't repeat any of this in our future."
Hinata nodded her head and couldn't help but notice Sasuke was still placing light kisses on her face and the corner of her lips. "Sasuke?"
"Let Naruto finish his training so we can get back home." Naruto and Hinata understood the hidden meaning to his hot-blooded words.
