Chapter 25 – A Surge of Defiance
The battlefield trembled beneath Sokovia's fractured ground, explosions lighting up the sky as the Avengers and Ultron's remaining drones clashed in a war that would determine the fate of the planet. Smoke billowed from burning debris, and the air thrummed with tension.
But in the heart of the chaos stood Ben Tennyson, transformed into the mighty Feedback. His sleek black-and-white form shimmered with vibrant electric energy, his glowing green eyes locked onto Ultron's red optics with unwavering determination. Sparks danced across his elongated, conductoid fingertips, and arcs of crackling energy pulsed outward with each step he took.
"Feeling nervous yet, Rust-Bucket?" Ben called out, his voice dripping with smug confidence. He twirled his fingers, letting a current of energy ripple between them, a teasing smirk forming across his face.
Ultron growled, his Vibranium form sparking as his mechanical fingers clenched into fists. "You are a child playing with power you do not understand."
"Aw, thanks for noticing!" Feedback quipped, his tone mockingly cheerful. "Don't worry though—I'll make sure to send your shiny scrap heap a postcard from the junkyard."
Ultron roared in frustration, launching himself at Feedback with terrifying force. His claws swiped through the air, each movement calculated, his Vibranium-enhanced body moving with inhuman precision. But Feedback dodged with effortless agility, his conductoid reflexes allowing him to twist and sidestep Ultron's attacks.
As Ultron lunged forward again, Feedback countered with a powerful surge of electricity. The blast struck Ultron square in the chest, sending him crashing into the rubble with a deafening impact.
"I don't know, Ultron," Feedback said, flexing his hands as the air around him hummed with raw power. "For a genius AI, you're really bad at this whole fighting thing."
The Vision hovered nearby, phasing through incoming drone attacks with grace, his serene expression unshaken. "You're provoking him," Vision remarked, his calm tone juxtaposing the chaos around them. "Is that wise?"
Ben turned his head slightly, still grinning. "Wise? No. Fun? Absolutely."
Thor landed beside Vision, Mjolnir crackling with lightning as he surveyed the scene. "Tennyson fights with a ferocity I have not seen before. It's… impressive."
"Thanks, Thor!" Feedback called out, without missing a beat. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a toaster to break."
Ultron rose slowly from the rubble, his Vibranium armor scorched, his optics glowing with seething fury. "Enough!" he bellowed, his voice vibrating with rage. He extended his arms, and the Omnitrix core embedded in his chest began to glow ominously.
"You've been amusing," Ultron sneered, his red optics locked onto Feedback. "But it's time to end this farce."
Feedback's smirk faded slightly as he watched the core pulse with energy, a dangerous hum growing louder by the second. "Uh-oh," he muttered, frowning. "That doesn't look good."
Ultron grinned maliciously, his confidence returning. "The Omnitrix core holds enough power to create hundreds of big bangs. You don't stand a chance."
The air around Ultron distorted as he unleashed a massive energy beam, the sheer force of it tearing through the battlefield. The beam surged toward Feedback, its blinding light engulfing everything in its path.
Natasha, standing on the edge of the battlefield, froze as her eyes widened in horror. "Ben!" she screamed, her voice breaking as she watched the light consume him. The emotional bond they had formed over the years sent a pang of fear through her chest, her mind racing with the thought that he was truly gone.
The battlefield fell silent as the light lingered, its blinding intensity making it impossible to see what remained.
But then—it began to fade.
As the glow diminished, the silhouette of Feedback emerged, standing tall and unyielding. In his hands, he held the energy beam itself, contained between his conductoid appendages. The energy arced wildly, desperate to escape, but Feedback's grip was unrelenting.
Ultron staggered backward, his expression flickering with disbelief. "Impossible," he muttered. "That energy should have obliterated you!"
Feedback's frown deepened, his voice laced with frustration. "You really don't get it, do you?" He shifted his stance, the energy still contained between his hands. "I *am* power."
Without warning, Feedback released the contained energy upward, letting it disperse harmlessly into the atmosphere. He glared at Ultron, his green eyes burning with renewed intensity.
Then—Feedback did something no one expected. He pressed the Ultimatrix dial again, cycling through alien after alien at lightning speed. One moment he was Heatblast, releasing a wall of fire; the next, he was Big Chill, freezing drones solid. Diamondhead. XLR8. Wildvine. Echo Echo. Rath. Alien X. Every alien he unlocked unleashed its unique power in rapid succession, decimating Ultron's forces.
Finally, Ben returned to Feedback, his electric form humming with raw energy.
"Now," Feedback growled, his voice low and dangerous. "It's my turn."
He surged forward, electricity crackling around him as he collided with Ultron. The impact sent shockwaves through the battlefield, and Ultron stumbled as Feedback's fists slammed into him repeatedly. Sparks flew with each strike, Feedback's sheer force overwhelming the Vibranium armor that had once seemed impenetrable.
"No quips this time?" Feedback taunted, his tone sharp as he delivered another devastating blow. "What happened to all that big talk?"
Ultron roared in fury, swinging wildly, but Feedback was relentless. With one final surge of power, he grabbed Ultron's chest and ripped the Omnitrix core free, tossing it aside like discarded scrap.
Ultron staggered, his movements growing unsteady. But even as his body began to falter, his red optics glowed faintly with mockery. "You think this changes anything?" Ultron rasped. "The core was just a boost. I can run without it."
Before Ben could respond, a thunderous roar shook the battlefield.
"HULK SMASH!"
The Hulk barreled forward, leaping into the air and slamming both fists onto Ultron with earth-shaking force. The impact cratered the ground, and Ultron's form crumpled under the sheer power of the Hulk's strike.
The battlefield fell silent once more.
Tony landed nearby, his suit battered but intact. "Is he down?" he asked cautiously.
Thor stepped closer, Mjolnir at the ready. "I do not believe anyone could withstand such an assault."
Natasha, still reeling from the events, scanned the battlefield until her eyes locked onto Ben, still in Feedback form. She let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. "He's alive."
Vision hovered nearby, his calm demeanor returning. "It appears we have won this battle."
The Hulk grunted, crossing his arms. "Hulk done."
But as the team began to regroup, a distant glow caught their attention.
They turned their eyes upward.
Far in the distance, the meteor—bright and burning—approached Earth's atmosphere, its destructive path clear.
The Avengers stood in silence, their victory against Ultron overshadowed by the looming catastrophe.
