Third POV:
It had been a full day, since Naruto had summonedReikon, the Chief of the Fox Summons. His chakra had nearly been depleted after that summoning, so the time since had been spent recovering, meditating, and preparing.
But today, something wasdifferent.
As Naruto stood in the training chamber of the underground library, going over his chakra control exercises, a powerful gust of wind exploded from behind him. His eyes widened as a familiar energy surged through the air.
A swirl of crimson chakra burst open in the center of the room, and from it emerged Reikon, his golden-red fur practically glowing in the dim chamber.
"Naruto Uzumaki."
The voice was firm, laced with pride and challenge.
Naruto straightened up, wiping the sweat off his brow. "Reikon... You're back."
Reikon gave a slow nod."You want to walk the path of the Uzumaki. You want vengeance. Restoration. To do that, you need more than knowledge or power. You need control, instinct, and most importantly—resolve."
Naruto nodded. "I'm ready. Give me your test."
Reikon's tails flared behind him, forming a ring of blazing chakra that surrounded Naruto. The walls of the chamber shimmered, then disappeared entirely. The world shifted around him.
In the blink of an eye, Naruto found himself in a vast forest clearing, the sky blood red and storm clouds rolling.
Naruto POV
"What the hell—this isn't the library anymore... This must be part of the test."
Then he heard it. A growl. Low and guttural.
Out of the trees emerged a fox — not as large as Reikon, but still towering over Naruto. Its fur was dark grey, and its eyes glowed with menace. Another followed. Then another. Three foxes, each circling him.
Suddenly, Reikon's voice echoed in the sky, deep and ancient:
"These are my subordinates. Test your strength. Survive against all three for five minutes. No clones. No running. Show me what an Uzumaki is made of."
Naruto's eyes narrowed. "Heh... fine. I'll show you."
He unsheathed his sword — forged in the library's smithing room, chakra-sensitive and etched with sealing marks — and readied his stance.
The first fox lunged. Naruto rolled to the side, slashing across its front leg. Sparks flew. The second one followed, and he leapt above it, slamming a kunai with an explosion tag onto its back.
Boom!
It stumbled back, dazed. But the third was smarter — it didn't attack immediately. It watched him.
"They're not just beasts. They're strategists... damn," Naruto muttered.
He weaved signs fast —"Suiton: Mizurappa!"A burst of water shot from his mouth, slowing the first fox's approach, but it wasn't enough to stop it.
"Come on, Naruto, think... You don't need to overpower them — outsmart them!"
He threw a smoke bomb at the ground. When the smoke covered the field, he slipped to the side, focused chakra into his feet, and ran up a nearby tree.
He threw three shuriken laced with minor seal tags — the tags erupted into blinding light upon impact.
Flash from Level 1 of the library.
The foxes staggered.
Naruto leapt down.
"Let's end this — Sealing Style: Binding Chains!"
He slammed his palm on the ground, and red chains burst from his seals, binding two of the foxes.
But the third — the watcher — had vanished.
He looked around frantically—thenWHAM!
Naruto was slammed into the ground from above.
The third fox grinned down at him.
"Urgh..." Naruto coughed, tasting iron. "Is that... all you got?"
He grabbed the kunai hidden in his sleeve, jammed it upward, and stabbed it into the fox's leg. It howled.
Naruto used the momentum to roll out and stood again, blood trailing from his mouth.
Reikon's voice echoed once more:
"Enough."
The forest shimmered and dissolved around him. Naruto found himself back in the chamber, kneeling and panting. His clothes were torn, body aching — but he wassmiling.
Reikon stood before him, nodding solemnly.
"You did not win. But you did not run. You fought with your mind, your body, and your will. You passed, Naruto Uzumaki."
Naruto looked up. "So... what now?"
Reikon leaned closer, placing one claw gently on his shoulder."Now, our bond deepens. You may call on my lesser kin freely. As for me... earn my full strength. Keep growing. I will fight alongside you only when you are ready to lead a nation."
Naruto grinned. "Then I'll become strong enough to lead more than a nation."
Reikon gave a fanged smirk."That's the Uzumaki spirit."
With a final flare of chakra, Reikon vanished, leaving Naruto alone once more — bruised, but stronger.
And determined.
Timeskip:
Two months had quietly passed since Naruto had unlocked the hidden section of the Uzumaki Library. The days melted into one another—filled with training, meditation, and grueling practice with Reikon and the younger fox summons.
Though he'd yet to face the test promised by the Fox Boss, he was growing stronger each day, mastering sealing formulas and refining his chakra control to levels he never thought possible. But with growth came pain.
Naruto was in the middle of sparring with a mid-sized fox namedKoru, when his body suddenly jerked and he stumbled, clutching his head as a wave of memories surged into his mind.
"Agh—!" he cried out, falling to one knee.
Koru's ears perked up. "Naruto?! What's wrong?!"
"Clone..." Naruto hissed, teeth clenched. "One of my clones just—got killed..."
The memories were raw and sudden—a burst of sensation, fear, the briefest image of shadowed steel, and then darkness.
He didn't recognize the attacker. It had been a clean, surprise strike.
Naruto spent the entire day in deep meditation, organizing the shattered reflections of that clone's experience. The day ended with no clearer answers.
Two days later, it happened again.
Another clone.
Same pain. Same type of death—swift, silent, calculated.
Naruto's brows furrowed deeply as he sat cross-legged, the soft light of the foxfire around the training room casting flickers on his worried face.
"Someone's tracking me... through the clones? But the concealment seal should've hidden their chakra. It doesn't make sense..."
His eyes narrowed as a thought formed in his mind.
"If only I had a way to warn them... or get messages across..."
That's when the idea hit him.
"...The foxes!"
Later that night, he gathered a few of the messenger foxes—small, fast, and incredibly stealthy.
"Go," he instructed, pressing scrolls into their tiny satchels, "Find my clones. Give them this seal—have them dispel themselves only at specific times I've written. No early release unless attacked. Tell them to stay hidden, watch for enemies. No more risks."
The foxes bowed, disappearing into streaks of wind and chakra.
Naruto exhaled slowly, calming his nerves.
The next morning, he was meditating again, when he felt a familiar chakra above him.
Two of them.
"...Zabuza? Haku?" he muttered, standing and brushing the dust off his pants. "They're... early?"
With a burst of chakra, he phased through the seal-protected floor and emerged aboveground.
The cool breeze kissed his face as he rose, and there they were.
Zabuza stood with his arms crossed, his ever-present blade slung over his back. Haku looked different—slightly thinner, with a worried crease on her brow. But when she saw Naruto, her expression softened, eyes glimmering.
"Oi, brat," Zabuza grunted, narrowing his eyes. "We weren't supposed to see you for another two months."
Naruto tilted his head. "Yeah, what happened? You guys okay?"
Haku stepped forward and hugged him tightly, surprising him. "You... look alright," she murmured. "I was scared something happened to you..."
Naruto blinked, slowly returning the hug, confused but grateful. "I'm okay. I promise."
Zabuza cleared his throat. "Tch. Enough with the sappy stuff. We need to talk."
Naruto released Haku, now fully alert. "What's wrong?"
Zabuza's face was unusually serious. "Brat... you got anyhistorywith someone real strong? Like, the kind of person no one messes with?"
Naruto raised an eyebrow. "Uh... not that I know of. Why?"
Zabuza crossed his arms, his voice dropping.
"Few nights ago, we wrapped up a mission. Thought it was clean. Turned out it wasn't—we got ambushed. Guy almost took me out. Fast. Silent. Like a damn shadow."
Naruto's heart skipped. "What happened?"
Zabuza's eyes narrowed.
"Before I could blink, someone elseappeared. Cloaked, masked. Wiped out the attacker in a single strike."
Haku shivered. "He was terrifying... and yet... he didn't hurt us."
Zabuza continued. "He turned to me. Said something I wasn't expecting."
Naruto leaned in.
Zabuza mimicked the deep voice. "'I know you're with Naruto... and I know where he is. But I can't reach him. So I'm givingyouthis task. Consider it payment for saving your life.'"
He looked Naruto dead in the eye.
"'Tell him to better conceal the chakra in his clones. They're searching for him. Tell him to hide until he's strong enough.'"
Naruto felt his blood run cold. "He said... he couldn't get to me?"
Zabuza nodded. "Didn't say why. Just vanished after that."
Naruto scratched his head, looking at Zabuza with a grin. "So, I've got some mysterious knight in shining armor out there, huh? Someone who saves your life and tells you to hide your chakra, and now I've got to figure out who they are... I mean, seriously, this is like some cheesy fantasy story. A masked hero comes to the rescue and leaves cryptic advice... what's next, a horse?"
Zabuza scowled, arms crossed. "Yeah, except that 'knight' is probably watching us right now, brat. So, less talking and more hiding."
Naruto chuckled, but his smile faded as he thought about it. "Right... maybe I should be a little less sarcastic. Whoever they are, they've got a point. I need to lay low."
Zabuza deadpan said. "Now let's just hope this mystery knight doesn't show up on arealhorse."
"...Who was he?" Naruto whispered.
Zabuza sighed. "Didn't get a name. Just a masked shadow with eyes that could slice steel."
Naruto looked to the sky, the wind brushing through his hair, thoughts racing.
Someone's watching. Someone strong. And the enemy... they're already looking for me.
He grit his teeth.
"I need to get stronger. Fast."
It had been a day since Zabuza spoke of the mysterious figure who had almost killed him, the cloaked protector who warned about the clones. The weight of it all pressed down on Naruto. He could feel the ticking clock in his chest, the urgency building with every passing second.
He sat cross-legged by the campfire, his mind a whirl of stress. Zabuza and Haku were still here, huddled around the fire outside the hidden entrance to the Uzumaki Library. The camp was quiet, save for the crackling of the flames. Yet Naruto felt none of that peace. His mind was spinning with questions, doubts, and fear.
The cloaked figure who saved Zabuza, the clones being hunted...What am I supposed to do?he thought. How can I hide myself? They'll find me. They always find me...
Haku noticed his furrowed brow and the deep sigh that escaped his lips. She quietly walked over to him and sat beside him, her warm presence a quiet comfort amidst his inner turmoil.
"Are you alright?" she asked softly, her voice filled with concern. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, trying to ease his tense posture.
Naruto blinked, looking up at her. Her violet eyes were full of worry, and for a moment, it took his breath away. He hadn't realized how much he had come to rely on her warmth. Haku always seemed to know when he needed comfort without saying a word.
"I'm... I'm fine," he said with a forced smile, but it faltered as he spoke. "I just... don't know what to do. They're coming. I can feel it. And I can't hide forever, can I?"
Haku's smile softened, and she gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "You're not alone. You've got me, and you've got Zabuza. We'll figure this out together."
Naruto met her gaze, her smile giving him a sense of hope he hadn't realized he needed. For just a moment, the weight on his shoulders lightened.
Zabuza's voice broke through the brief silence. "Oi, stop looking so gloomy, brat. There's nothing worse than a ninja who lets his head drag him down."
Naruto chuckled dryly, feeling a bit of the tension ease from his chest at Zabuza's teasing. The older man had a way of making everything seem like a challenge, and sometimes, that's exactly what Naruto needed.
"You know, for someone who's supposedly so tough, you sure know how to cheer me up," Naruto said, grinning at Zabuza, though the smile didn't reach his eyes.
Zabuza gave him a sideways look. "That's because I'm better at this whole 'surviving' thing than you are. You've got a long way to go before you're the kind of ninja that doesn'tneedconstant babysitting."
Haku gently nudged Naruto's side. "I'm sure you'll get there. Just keep pushing forward."
As Naruto stood up and looked toward the horizon, a strange feeling of resolve settled within him. There was a way to do this, a way to hide. And he was going to take it.
That's when it happened—the voice.
Boy, I know a way to help you. Meditate first. Meditate and try to get in your mind.
Naruto's breath caught in his throat. It was the voice of the Nine-Tails.
Without thinking twice, he fell into a seated position, crossing his legs and closing his eyes. The world around him fell away as his consciousness drifted into his mindscape. He stood in the vast, empty sewer—the familiar feeling of cold water and damp air greeted him as he walked toward the large cage that had housed the Nine-Tails for as long as he could remember.
There, inside the cage, sat the great fox—Kurama, the Nine-Tails, his eyes glowing faintly as he looked down at Naruto with a mixture of disdain and interest.
It's me who called you,Kurama's voice echoed in his mind, powerful and steady. It's me they're after. They think they can get to me, but I won't let them.
Naruto stared at him, trying to make sense of everything. "If they're after you, can't I just give you to them?" he asked, his frustration evident.
Kurama's growl rumbled through the mental space. As easy as it sounds, it's not that simple. If I'm extracted from you, you'll be killed. And I'm sure you don't want to die just yet, do you?
Naruto swallowed. "No... no, I don't."
So, if you want to protect yourself,Kurama continued, his tone still gruff, you'll need to protect me as well. I hate you, but I hate it more when someone controls me. For now, I'll cooperate with you.
Naruto nodded slowly. "Alright. But how can we hide? How can we stop them from finding us?"
Kurama's eyes narrowed.Remember the old man—the one who was trying to unseal the defenses before he was killed? I can sense the remnants of the seal... and I think, if you try, we can unseal the protections again. It won't be easy. It will require every ounce of your chakra.
Naruto's heart raced.Could this be the key?
Naruto quickly explained his plan to Zabuza and Haku, his voice steady despite the anxiety gnawing at him.
"The defenses... I need to get to the skeleton of the Uzumaki Kage. I saw the old man perform the seals in a memory. If I can replicate them, I can restore the barriers."
Zabuza gave him a look that was both skeptical and curious. "You're certain you can do this, kid?"
Naruto met his gaze. "Ihaveto do this."
With no further argument, Zabuza and Haku followed him to the old ruins where Naruto had first seen the Uzumaki Kage's remains. The area was cold and eerie, the air thick with the weight of history. The skeletal remains were just as they'd been before—silent, stoic, the final resting place of those who'd once defended this land.
Naruto knelt before the intricate, ancient seals embedded into the ground, the memory of the old man's hand signs clear in his mind. He began, his hands moving with precision as he formed the first seal.
Boar... Dog... Bird... Monkey... Ram...
The sequence of hand seals continued, Naruto's chakra flickering and flaring with each new gesture. His movements became faster, more practiced. He could feel the seals starting to activate, the power of the ancient protections stirring beneath the ground.
But as he reached the fifteenth and final seal—Rat—Naruto felt his chakra surge violently, a red aura flaring from him, burning through the air. His body shook, but he held steady, the final hand sign landing firmly in place.
Boom!
A massive shockwave erupted from the ground as the seals activated. The air crackled with energy, the defenses rising around the hidden library.
Zabuza, stepping back in surprise, muttered under his breath, "Damn, brat... you actually did it."
Haku stepped forward, a relieved smile crossing her face. "You did it, Naruto..."
Naruto stood, panting from the exertion, the glow of the activated seals humming around him. His heart raced, but there was no time to rest. The barrier was up, but it wouldn't hold forever.
Naruto turned to Haku, offering her a tired but sincere smile. "We're not done yet. But this is a start."
Haku walked over to him, placing a gentle hand on his arm. "I know you're scared, but you're not alone in this. We'll stand by you—no matter what happens."
Naruto's eyes softened as he met her gaze. "Thanks, Haku. I... I don't know what I'd do without you."
She smiled warmly, her cheeks flushing slightly. "You'll never have to find out."
