The world around him was... different. The skies above were a dull, murky red with a faint orange glow along the horizon. The terrain was mountainous, with jagged rocks jutting from the ground and a heavy mist hanging in the air. There was no sign of Covenant forces—just an unsettling, quiet peace.

And then, he heard voices.

"Hey, do you see that?"

"What is that?!"

Master Chief's helmet turned toward the sound. A group of figures stood at the edge of a rocky cliff. They wore brightly colored armor and clothing, contrasting sharply with the bleak environment. They were talking and gesturing toward him, their eyes wide with curiosity.

One of them, a young girl in a red cloak, seemed to be the most excited. She had a gleam in her eye and a big smile on her face.

"W-wait, is that... is that a spartan?" she gasped, bouncing on her heels.

Master Chief remained silent, assessing the situation. He needed information. These strangers could either be allies, or they could be enemies. He didn't know which yet, but he wasn't going to make the first move.

The girl in the red cloak dashed toward him, her movements quick and erratic, and before Master Chief could react, she stopped right in front of him, looking up at his towering figure.

"You're huge!" she exclaimed, eyes sparkling. "Are you a superhero? You kind of look like one! But wait... your armor's all different. What kind of hero wears armor like that?!"

Master Chief stared at her for a moment, his helmet tilting ever so slightly.

She was energetic, far too energetic, but she didn't seem hostile.

Just... strange.

"I'm not a hero," Master Chief replied, "I'm a soldier."

The girl gasped, as though this revelation was the most exciting thing she'd ever heard.

"A soldier! Oh my gosh, you're like a... like a space soldier or something, right? Are you from another planet?" she asked.

Before Master Chief could answer, another figure stepped forward—this one had golden blonde hair and an almost cocky grin on her face.

"Let me guess," she said, raising an eyebrow. "You're some kind of armored guy who likes to punch things. What is it with all the big guys and their love for punching?"

"Hey, don't be rude!" the red-clad girl scolded, turning to the blonde. "He might be our new best friend!"

Master Chief's helmet turned to the blonde. She was taller than the red one and had a confident posture, but there was something playful about her demeanor.

"Don't mind Yang," the blonde's companion interjected. She had long white hair and a calm, collected expression. "She's just... always trying to make jokes. Can't help herself."

Yang threw her hands up. "What?! That was a good joke! Come on, he looks like he could punch through a mountain. I'm just trying to get him to show off a little!"

"I would prefer not to," Master Chief replied flatly, his voice even and professional.

Ruby, the red-clad girl, giggled at that. "He's so cool!" she whispered to herself, eyes shining.

"Uh, guys," came a voice from the shadows, and from the corner of his eye, Master Chief saw a figure step out, her movements graceful and measured. She wore a black outfit with a veil of black hair that fell over one shoulder. Her gaze was cool, unreadable, but it held a certain sharpness to it.

"I don't know what just happened, but we should probably take him somewhere safe." Her voice was calm, with an almost scholarly tone.

"Blake's right," Weiss added, nodding in agreement. "Who knows what this man has gone through. We should at least offer him some hospitality."

Master Chief watched them all, still unsure of who or what they were. Their accents and mannerisms were strange, and their attire was unlike anything he'd ever seen before. They didn't look like soldiers, but they seemed capable.

"I am unfamiliar with your world," Master Chief said, his tone neutral but firm. "Where am I?"

Ruby's eyes widened again, and she jumped up. "You don't know where you are?!"

"No," Master Chief replied, locking eyes with the red-clad girl. "I was... pulled here. And I need to understand where here is."

"You're in Remnant!" Ruby exclaimed, almost bouncing off the ground with excitement. "This is the land of Remnant! You know, where all the cool huntsmen and huntresses live, and there's bad guys called Grimm, and—"

Yang smirked. "We get it, Ruby. You don't have to give him the whole tourist brochure."

"But—"

Weiss cleared her throat. "Ruby, what she means is... Remnant is a world filled with danger. If you truly are a soldier, you'll need to understand what you're up against."

Blake's gaze narrowed, studying him. "You said you're a soldier, but your armor is unlike anything we've ever seen."

Master Chief slowly looked down at his armor, as though considering her words. "I come from a place far from here. A war has been going on for years. My mission... it was interrupted."

"War, huh?" Yang said, her face twisting into an exaggerated, cartoonish frown. "Well, we're no strangers to that. We've been in our own fair share of... well, adventures."

Ruby grinned at Yang's joke, but Master Chief didn't respond.

The air around them was heavy with tension and unspoken questions. There was no way to know how this situation would unfold, but something told him that this world—these people—would either be a huge help or another source of conflict.

"Can you help me get back home?" Master Chief asked, his voice grave.

Ruby's face lit up, and she immediately bounded forward. "We'll totally help you! We'll show you everything! You'll meet my teammates, and then we'll go on a big adventure—maybe even fight some Grimm! Oh, this is going to be so cool!"

Yang clapped her hands together. "Don't get too excited, Ruby. We don't even know how he got here."

"True," Weiss said thoughtfully. "But we'll figure something out."

Master Chief wasn't sure if they were capable of helping, but one thing was clear—they weren't enemies, at least not yet. And for now, that would have to be enough.

He gave a small nod. "I'll follow your lead."

Ruby's smile widened even further. "Yay! I'm Ruby! And this is Yang, Weiss, and Blake!"

Master Chief looked at each of them in turn, silently noting their names, faces, and postures. The team, it seemed, was ready to face whatever lay ahead. And maybe, just maybe, Master Chief could learn something in this strange new world of Remnant.

As they began to walk, Master Chief found himself wondering: what exactly had he stumbled into?

Ruby, of course, was practically bouncing off the ground in front of him. "So, Chief, what's the coolest thing you've ever fought? Like, I mean, what would you say is the absolute scariest thing you've ever taken down?!"

Master Chief didn't answer right away. There had been plenty of things he'd fought—thousands of Covenant soldiers, horrific flood creatures, towering Forerunner constructs—but he wasn't sure how to explain any of that to Ruby, or if she'd even understand.

Before he could respond, Yang chimed in from behind with her usual energy. "I bet it's a giant alien monster or something. I mean, if you've fought anything that looks as cool as your armor, I'd call it a major win."

Master Chief glanced over at her but kept moving forward. "I've fought plenty of things worse than you can imagine."

Yang grinned, clearly amused. "Oh, I doubt that. You know, I'm pretty sure you haven't fought the 'grimms' of bad puns."

Ruby groaned dramatically, though she was grinning. "Yang, please! We've been through this—nobody likes your punny jokes!"

"I thought they were killer jokes." Yang said, giving Ruby a sly wink.

Master Chief, sensing this was some kind of playful banter, remained stoic. He was used to focusing on the mission, not engaging in what he assumed were lighthearted exchanges. But he couldn't ignore the humor in their dynamic. Maybe these people weren't so different from his old squad after all—just a lot more colorful.

A sudden screech broke the conversation.

"Grimm!" Blake hissed, her hand already on her weapon. Her eyes narrowed, her instincts sharp as ever. "They're coming!"

Master Chief's helmet immediately swiveled toward the sound. He didn't need anyone to point him in the right direction. In the distance, large, black shapes moved quickly through the trees. Their eyes glowed an eerie red, and their bodies were made of twisted, dark material, as though formed from pure malevolence.

"What are those?" Master Chief asked, already preparing for a fight.

Ruby was practically vibrating with excitement. "Those are Grimm! They're like... evil creatures from the shadows! But don't worry, we've got this!" She winked, lifting her huge scythe like it was just another day in the field.

"Stay behind me," Master Chief said calmly as he activated his shield, his fingers resting on his weapon.

Blake, not missing a beat, dashed forward, her blades flashing as she engaged the closest Grimm—a large, wolf-like creature with a jagged mane of darkness. The thing growled, snapping at her, but she was already behind it, slicing at its back legs with precise movements.

Master Chief's eyes narrowed under his helmet. The grimms were quick, but nothing compared to the speed of a Covenant Elite. He was used to enemies that were faster and more coordinated than these beasts.

As a couple of smaller Grimm charged him, Master Chief raised his assault rifle and opened fire with pinpoint accuracy. The first two Grimm crumpled as his rounds tore through their dark flesh. But to his trained eyes, something was off. The creatures didn't react like they should have.

"Covenant?" he muttered under his breath, raising his rifle to reload.

"What?" Ruby shouted over, her eyes wide. "Did you just—did you just take out TWO of them?! Master Chief, you're amazing!"

Yang rolled her eyes. "Pfft, she's already fan-girling over you. We didn't even get to fight a Grimm together!"

"Did you just say Covenant?" Weiss asked, glancing at him with narrowed eyes. "What are you talking about?"

Master Chief didn't have time to explain. He was still scanning the battlefield, trying to make sense of what he was seeing. Something wasn't right. The Grimm had a form, but their movement and behavior seemed too coordinated, too intelligent—like Covenant elites attempting to mask themselves as monsters.

Suddenly, a massive Grimm—the size of a bear—came charging at them, its large claws swiping through the air like deadly blades. Ruby's eyes widened in excitement.

"Whoa! That one's big! Master Chief, you should totally fight that one!"

"I've got this!" Yang yelled as she launched herself at the beast, her fists glowing with fiery energy.

Master Chief shook his head, but he wasn't about to let the creature get the better of them. As Yang took the front lines, punching the Grimm square in the face, Master Chief moved into position. He dashed forward, utilizing his augmented speed to close the distance faster than the creature could react.

"Heads up!" Yang yelled as she swung, missing by inches.

With a swift motion, Master Chief dropped to a knee, his right arm sweeping low to knock the Grimm off balance. He didn't hesitate. His combat knife was in his hand before anyone could blink. With one brutal, surgical thrust, he buried the blade into the creature's heart.

The beast let out an agonized screech, its form cracking apart like brittle stone, its dark matter disintegrating as it collapsed into a pile of dust.

Ruby's eyes were as wide as saucers. "Oh. My. Gosh. Did you just—did you just do that?! You killed that thing in one move!"

Master Chief wiped the blade clean, then stood up, his posture impassive. "It wasn't much of a fight. These aren't Covenant. They're just creatures. They're weaker."

Yang jumped up and punched the air with excitement. "That's what I'm talking about! Now that is how you punch things!"

Weiss crossed her arms, still frowning slightly. "I don't know whether to be impressed or terrified. You just... make it look so easy."

Blake, who had been standing back and surveying the area, finally spoke. "I don't think we're dealing with the typical Grimm here. There's something off about them."

Ruby, always the optimist, was still bouncing. "Well, it doesn't matter! We have a super soldier on our team now! We're going to be unstoppable!"

Master Chief turned to Ruby, his voice even. "I'm not on your team. I'm here for my own mission."

Ruby blinked and giggled awkwardly. "R-right. I didn't mean to—uh, sorry! That's just how I get when I meet new people!"

Yang snickered. "Oh, Ruby, you've got it bad. It's okay, you fangirl all you want. We'll still help him find his way back."

"I didn't ask for help," Master Chief muttered.

Weiss, with a little smirk, sighed. "I'd say, 'Just shoot me now,' but I don't think any of us have enough bullets for this situation."

Master Chief didn't respond. Instead, he simply turned back to the forest, scanning the horizon. There were more Grimm out there, and if they were as twisted as the ones he'd just faced, he'd need to stay focused.

Yang, though, wasn't done. "Hey, at least someone in this team can make the big bad Grimm go boom. Look at him, just wrecking shop out there!"

The group groaned.

That pun was really bad...
