Warnings: ableism and bullying

"September 2011

Hogwarts has been a dream come true, which is saying something since my life so far hasn't been the best. It's my third year, and I still cannot get over how amazing the castle and my friend is. Sometimes, though, I think they can't see me.

-Aegon,"

Aegon Kane put down his quill and sighed. The common room was quiet, which wasn't surprising, since it was five in the morning.
"I should try to go back to sleep," Aegon muttered, standing up from the red chair. The warm fire filled the cozy, earthy room. The food from the kitchens filled his nose. "Or I can try to sleep tomorrow," Aegon muttered and sat back down.

He looked up when he heard someone walk in.
"Did you stay up all night again, Kane?" Aegon rolled his eyes at the sound of M.J., the bully in his dorm.

"Were you eaten by a troll in your dream?" Aegon asked back, standing up to make his way out of the common room.

"Get back here!" the bully yelled. His large fist swung through the air.
Aegon ducked, but he was too slow. He closed his eyes, waiting for the blow, but he felt nothing.

"Leave him alone," a voice said, making Aegon open his eyes. In front of him was the blue-haired boy he had seen around.

"Stay out of this, Lupin."
The other boy, Lupin, rolled his amber eyes and let go of his hand.
"I will see you later, Kane," M.J. said before pushing Aegon back down into the chair.

"I thought Hufflepuffs were supposed to be nice," Aegon muttered, rubbing his back. Lupin smiled.

"Bullies happen everywhere. Are you alright?" Lupin asked, sitting down across from Aegon.

"Yeah," Aegon asked, looking around again. The room was full of students talking or playing games. "I'm Aegon Kane. You?" he asked, playing with his quill that he picked up.

"Teddy Lupin," Teddy said, rubbing his eyes. Aegon didn't say anything else as he looked down at the quill, playing with it.

Both boys were quiet for a while, but Aegon felt Teddy's eyes on him. The fire crackled behind them. "Did...Did you have a nice summer?" Aegon asked Teddy.
He could not believe he was talking to someone he had just met. Why? No one liked him.
Teddy Lupin, the coolest Wizard in his dorm, wouldn't like him because he was a freak. An orphan freak. His parents didn't want him because of how he was. To add to that, he was a wizard. He didn't need them, though. He knew who he was, even if no one else did.

"I did, thank you. I have a new Godbrother, and my dad finally got his job back teaching DADA. I can't wait for his class to start," Teddy said, rubbing his eyes again. Aegon looked at him, but he didn't meet his eyes.

"How was your summer?" Teddy asked after a few seconds. Aegon let out a shaky breath.

"It…it was,"

"Kane!" Aegon looked up when he saw his friend wave at him.

"Hey man," Aegon said back. "Are you going down for breakfast before classes start?" Aegon asked.

"Yeah, are you joining me? Or are you too cool for me?"
Aegon rolled his eyes.

"Very funny," Aegon said, standing up. "Do you want to join us?" Aegon asked Teddy, who looked confused.
Aegon couldn't blame him. He wasn't shy around his friend.

"Yeah, I'd like to," Teddy answered as the three walked out of the common room.
