Chapter 13: Second Round Showdown

In the stands, Yusei, Luna, and Roxas had joined their friends in the stands after Leo had been released from the medical room.
"You lost?! How are we supposed to keep dueling now, Luna?! It's not fair!" Leo whines.
"Look who's talking. At least I didn't lose my match like you did," Luna counters.
"But.." Leo frowns.
'I guess because he passed out, Leo doesn't remember my duel was more important than just this tournament.' Luna thought recalling her match with Prof. Frank. 'And what power was the Professor talking about? Could he have meant that mark on my arm?'
"Hey Luna, is something wrong?" Yanagi asks concerned about this.
"Did you hurt your arm?" Dexter asks.
"Uh, my arm's fine. I promise," Luna assures but Roxas and Yusei aren't convinced.
"If you say so. I think it's time I get you two home," Yusei states.
"Have fun babysitting," Bolt smirks.
"All right! We can have a sleepover!" Leo said excited.
"Do you mind if I spend the night with you again?" Roxas asks looking at Tifa and Jessie.
"Of course, you can. Why even ask?" Jessie smiles.
"We're not going to throw you on the street, especially when you're competing in such an important tournament," Tifa smiles.
Smiling Roxas was grateful to have the two of them.
"Ladies and gentlemen listen up!" The MC announces getting everyone's attention. "The second round has been announced! Check out the competition brackets! Who knows what excitement awaits?! Who will win? Who will lose? 4 Duelists, 2 rounds, 1 Champion. Who will it be? Things are going to get crazy. See you tomorrow."
As he hung up the matches were on display all over the arena.
Yusei vs Greiger and Roxas vs Akiza.
"Oh no, Yusei's facing Grieger. He's super tough," Leo gulps remembering his match.
"And Roxas is facing the Black Rose," Jessie gasps.
Narrowing his eyes, Roxas knew this next duel would be a challenge.
"Looks like you'll be Turbo Dueling," Bolt declares looking at Yusei.
"Is that bad?" Yusei asks.
"Word on the street is Grieger has himself an insane Duel Runner. It's supposed to be unbeatable," Bolt informs getting Leo's attention.
'Unbeatable?' Leo thought before getting an idea. 'If I can sneak into his garage before the match, I can figure out what he's got planned and tell Yusei,'
"Leo, are you okay?" Luna asks snapping him out of it.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. Uh, I'll be right back. I forgot something somewhere else," Leo said trying to play it cool as he walked away.
"Where are you going?" Luna asks.
"Oh nowhere specific. See you later," Leo said running off.
"Leo," Luna said worried about what he was up to.
Meanwhile in Satellite, a boat docked at the harbor.
As crew members got off, Blister was among them.
"Step right up. This here is the fastest ride to the satellite market where you can get your hands on all the best-recycled tech," A man with a van calls out.
"Room for one more?" Blister asks approaching him.
"Hey Blister, long time no see. What are you doing here? I thought you were stationed in the city." He said letting Blister in.
"A favor for a friend," Blister declares.
"I thought you gave up friends," He remarks.
"So did I," Blister said as they drove away.
At the stadium, Lazar and Goodwin presented Greiger with a trap card.
"This card should help you in your duel against Yusei," Lazar said as Greiger took it.
"Perfect," Greiger said putting the card in his deck.
"Just don't forget Greiger. We need you to bring out Yusei's mark," Lazar reminds.
"Greiger knows what the stakes are. He's a faithful servant of Iliaster and will determine if Yusei is truly a signer, correct?" Goodwin assures.
"Yes, I swear it, and when I'm finished can I rely on your word?" Greiger asks.
"Of course, your village, right? Tragic. I wish something could have been done to stop the devastation. Any word from your family?" Goodwin asks.
"Nothing yet, I hope they are all okay," Greiger said.
"Oh, I'm sure that they are," Goodwin said.
"Yes, and I'm sure they're in dire need of the food and supplies you promised to deliver once I get Yusei's mark to appear. Now I must go and prepare for my duel," Greiger said walking away.
Walking down the hall, Greiger saw Jack approaching him.
Coming to a stop, the two duelists glared at each other.
"Nice outfit, Greiger," Jack mocks.
"I didn't come here for trash talk. What do you want?" Greiger asks getting to the point.
"Just know this, I don't like you, Greiger, and I have never," Jack declares pissing him off. "Don't even think about beating Yusei. He's mine. Then again, I shouldn't worry too much, you were barely able to beat that pig-tailed pipsqueak before,"
"Listen up, Jack. My job is to put Yusei through the wringer, so in the meantime why don't you stay out of my way unless you want to get hurt," Greiger said walking past him.
'You better not get in the way of my destiny,' Jack thought glancing at him.
At 7th Heaven, Roxas, Tifa, Gogo, and Jessie sat together eating dinner.
"To Roxas making it to Round 2!" Jessie said raising her drink.
"Here, here," Tifa and Gogo said raising their glasses.
Smiling Roxas raised his.
"Hey! If you're gonna eat with us, you need to cheer with us," Jessie turned her head to reveal Mulan was here.
"Here, here," Mulan raised her water nonchalantly.
"Not that we're crazy enough to throw sector security out on the streets but why are you still here?" Gogo asks.
"As long as Roxas is still in the tournament, I need to make sure he shows up for his match tomorrow," Mulan said.
"Relax, I'm not going to run," Roxas assures.
Mulan was about to answer when her stomach started to growl making her blush bright red.
"Sounds like someone's hungry," Jessie teases. "You can join us if you lose the attitude."
Slowly, Mulan walks over and pulls up a chair.
"T-Thank you," Mulan said in a calm tone.
"Do you hate Roxas or something? You two seem to have a history," Tifa said.
Pausing Mulan glanced at Roxas and sighed. "I wouldn't say I hate him but he's been affecting my job lately. Stealing a Sector Security Runner and escaping Satellite can leave a bad impression,"
"You broke out of Satellite and didn't get arrested?" Gogo said glancing at Roxas impressed. "I might have underestimated you," She smiles.
"And now instead of arresting him like I would for any criminal who did these things, I have to escort and protect him or I'm fired. As if I'm not treated like a joke as it is," Mulan muttered that last part.
"What do you mean?" Roxas asks.
"Tell me something, how many female Sector Security officers have you seen?" Mulan asks.
"Uh well…" Roxas starts.
"Not many. Why do you think that is?" Mulan asks leaning in. "Because Law Enforcement is a hierarchy built around rules written by ignorant old men. And if it's not the rules, your colleagues will treat you less. Even though I'm one of the few women who made it to the higher ranks I'm still somehow beneath them," Mulan explains.
"I'm sorry to hear that, you're really good at your job," Roxas said.
"Not many people I try to arrest say that," Mulan remarks.
"I know this situation isn't what you expected and frankly we don't know what's going on either," Tifa said.
"That's an understatement," Gogo said.
"But right now, we're stuck together until this is over, so maybe for now if we promise to help you keep your job do you promise to not treat us like we're criminals?" Jessie suggests.
Looking at them, Mulan smiled softly. "Even though all of you technically are?"
"Was that a joke?" Roxas said as she giggled.
"All right you all have a deal. Just don't do anything crazy until the Fortune Cup is over," Mulan offers.
"No promises," Gogo said as they all laughed.
Meanwhile, Leo was in the back storage area looking for clues on Greiger's runner.
Scanning the area, Leo finally found Greiger's garage.
"There it is," Grinning Leo stacked several items so he could climb in through the window. "Just a few more inches."
Unfortunately, the stack he used to climb up there was uneven and the poor kid lost his footing causing him to fall into the garage.
Groaning Leo sat up and rubbed his head.
"Next time I'll ask Roxas to come along. Maybe those giant keys of his can unlock doors or something," Leo said reaching for his flashlight. "Now to find that runner,"
But the second Leo turned on the light a giant skull appeared right in front of him.
Scared Leo bangs his head against the wall causing an alarm to go off.
"This can't be happening!" Leo panics.
At Leo and Luna's place, Luna and Yusei were sitting down to a fancy-looking meal but had no clue about Leo's whereabouts.
"Where's Leo? It's not like him to miss dinner." Luna asks looking at the clock. "He knows curfew is at 8 pm,"
"I'll go out and look for him. He could be in trouble." Yusei said.
"I can help," Luna said standing up.
"You should stay here. It's late." Yusei urged.
"Come on. He's my brother. And with me out you can cover twice the ground," Luna urged.
"All right. Call Roxas and the others first, see if he's there, and be safe." Yusei said going to get his runner.
"Okay." Luna nods in understanding.
At the bar, Jessie scooted closer to Roxas.
"So Roxas, you have a special girl in your life? Meet any pretty ones in Satellite?" Jessie asks curious.
"Uh, not really. The only girls I've know are all here," Roxas gestures.
"Oh really? So tell me of all of us who do you think is the prettiest?" Jessie asks startling him.
"W-What?" Roxas said as Gogo's gum popped in surprise while Tifa nearly choked on her drink and Mulan almost tripped.
"Come on, you honestly expect me to believe that a young man like you isn't attracted to any of the girls in this room? I won't judge," Jessie teases.
"Jessie, please don't." Tifa pleads when the phone rings.
"Uh, I'll get it," Roxas said getting up.
"Aww, you're no fun," Jessie pouts.
"I think someone has had enough to drink tonight," Mulan said.
"Really Jessie?" Tifa asks.
"What? For all we know he could have picked you," Jessie teases.
Blushing softly, Tifa didn't hate that as much when Roxas came back in.
"Hey did anyone see Leo before we left?" Roxas asks getting their attention.
"I thought he was with Yusei and his sister," Tifa said.
"Luna says he never came home," Roxas said and instantly the jokes and teasing died down.
"You mean to say he's missing?" Jessie asks.
"At this hour? This is bad," Mulan said concerned.
Back at the garage, Greiger approached it with a giant wrench in his hand.
'What tripped the alarm to my garage?' Greiger thought as he opened the hatch only to see Leo had passed out. "What are you doing here?"
In Satellite, the van pulls up in front of a large market.
As the others walked out, Blister put his hat on.
"Promise me you'll be careful, Blister." The driver said.
"It's me we're talking about," Blister assures.
"I'm just saying. A lot of Goodwin's goons have been seen wandering around these parts lately," The driver warns.
"Don't you worry about me? I'll be fine," Blister said walking out.
Looking at a tracker, Blister was following them to Roxas and Yusei's friends.
Entering the abandoned subway line, Blister approached the hideout.
Taking out a flashlight, Blister looks around for any sign of anyone.
"Hello! Anyone here? Don't be alarmed. I'm a friend of Yusei and Roxas. They sent me here to check on you! Hello?" Blister calls out but no one answers.
Looking around Blister saw the entire place had been ransacked.
"This isn't good. Where could they be?" Blister asks.
Back in the city, Yusei was driving down the streets when he met with Roxas, Mulan, and Gogo who pulled up on their runners.
While Jessie was holding onto Gogo, Tifa was holding onto Roxas when Luna ran over and joined them.
"Any luck?" Yusei asks as they take off their helmets.
"Nothing," Roxas shook his head.
"I'm scared," Luna said.
"Don't worry Luna, we'll find him," Jessie said when Yusei got a call.
Answering it, Blister appeared on screen.
"Blister?" Yusei said surprised.
"Yusei, I went to your friend's bunker but the whole place had been trashed," Blister declares.
"What?" Roxas said leaning in.
"Trashed? But they're okay, right?" Yusei asks but Blister shakes his head.
"They're missing. I can't find a trace," Blister admits.
"They got them all? Blitz, Tank, Nervin, Rally?" Roxas lists.
"All of them," Blister states.
"Wait…Rally?" Mulan paused concerned.
"Do you think Goodwin got to them?" Yusei asks.
"No idea. Not even Sector Security has a trace of them. It's like they vanished into thin air," Blister said.
"That's impossible, Rally has a mark. I was there when they put it on him. That should allow you to track them," Mulan said.
"Not if you know the right tricks. If Goodwin's gotten to them they could be anywhere." Blister said when his signal got fuzzy. "They're starting to track my signal. If I find anything I'll let you know."
"Be careful," Yusei said as Blister hung up.
Glancing at Roxas, the two of them were worried about their friends.
"Are your friends missing too?" Luna asks.
"Yeah." Both nod.
"Roxas, Yusei…I'm so sorry," Tifa apologized.
"I don't believe this," Mulan said about to reach for her speaker when Gogo grabbed her arm.
"What do you think you're doing?" Gogo glares.
"What are you gonna do? Arrest us? I thought we had a truce," Roxas says.
"Yeah but—" Mulan starts.
"You know Rally as well as we do. Are you fine with a little kid being held hostage so Yusei would be forced to duel? Is the law all you care about?" Roxas asks.
Looking at them, part of Mulan wanted to turn them into Security for all the laws they were breaking…but a bigger part of her knew this was wrong. The people who were supposed to be protecting others were kidnapping people to use as hostages. Even if Yusei and Roxas were breaking the law their friends were innocent.
"Believe it or not, I'm no stranger to working around rules and laws," Mulan said turning it off. "We have a deal. Until the Fortune Cup is over, truce,"
Smiling they were happy at least one person in Sector Security was reasonable.
Suddenly they heard a noise.
Turning down an alley, they saw Greiger emerge from the shadows carrying Leo on his shoulder.
"Greiger?" Roxas gasps.
"Leo!" Luna gasps.
"Greiger, what are you doing with Leo?" Yusei asks.
"Relax. He's fine." Greiger assures.
"That wasn't what he asked," Roxas narrows his eyes.
"He broke into my garage, I found him sleeping on the floor," Greiger adds.
Going their separate ways, Yusei and Greiger brought Luna and Leo home.
"Thanks for bringing Leo back. I owe ya one," Yusei said as they moved their talk outside by the pool.
"Forget it, the boy was just trying to help you out," Greiger brushed off.
"Help me out?" Yusei asks confused.
"He wanted a sneak peek at my new Duel Runner like everyone else. In fact, I had to install 5 new alarm systems just to keep it under wraps," Greiger said.
"I'm surprised you didn't report this to Mulan," Yusei said.
"Nah. He reminds me of my little brother. I'm not going to punish him just because he's trying to help you out. It won't make a difference. You're still going down," Greiger states as Yusei glares him down. "I may be a good guy off the track but you don't want to mess with me when I'm turbo dueling. These are the big leagues Yusei, and there's quite a bit riding on this tournament for me and my future,"
"What? Some big trophy?" Yusei asks.
"Trophy? Hardly. My big future revolves around me and my family," Greiger declares. "They're far away waiting and hoping I bring them some help. We used to count the stars together, but here there's only smog. And you. Why are you dueling here?" Greiger asks.
"My friends, I don't have a choice in the matter," Yusei answers.
"Let me guess. Goodwin made you an offer you couldn't refuse?" Greiger asks surprising him.
"How did you know? Did he offer you the same?" Yusei asks as Greiger nods.
"He offered me a chance to rebuild my family's village. My people believed our ancestors were servants of the People of the Stars and our village has a deep hidden power," Greiger explains.
"Hidden power? Are you talking about the Legend of the Crimson Dragon?" Yusei asks.
"They say the one who controls the dragon controls the destiny of the entire world. I haven't been back to my village in years, but after I complete my mission here, I'll head back to rebuild my home." Greiger said.
"You can't trust Goodwin," Yusei states.
"I don't have a choice. I was told my village was consumed with fire and destruction unlike any natural disaster ever seen. Then Goodwin came to me. He promised to help but only if I helped him with his quest." Greiger explains.
"Greiger, you're being used," Yusei said.
"I don't care. If it means rebuilding my home, Goodwin can use me as much as he needs. I'm sorry Yusei, but tomorrow I have to win no matter what, and then I have to crush whoever wins the next match too. Be it the witch or your friend," Greiger declares.
"Well, my friends need me to win," Yusei counters.
"Then I guess we'll leave it at that. May the best man win tomorrow," Greiger said walking past him. "You're a good guy. In a perfect world, we'd both get what we want in the arena tomorrow. But the world isn't perfect. One of us has to lose and tomorrow it's going to be you,"
As Greiger leaves Yusei has to prepare for his match.
The next morning, everyone was back at the Fortune Cup eager to see the semifinals.
"Welcome back to the Fortune Cup Semifinals! 4 Duelists remain and the winner will take on Jack Atlas! First up in our Turbo Duel where we have Yusei Fudo facing off against the tower of power, Greiger!"
As the crowd went wild, Mulan watched from near the exit while everyone else was in their seats.
"Hey Luna, where's your brother?" Jessie asks.
"He said he wanted to tell Yusei something," Luna answers.
In the pits, Yusei was setting up his runner while Leo and Roxas stood nearby.
"Yusei, I'm sorry about what happened last night. I was just trying to help." Leo apologized.
"I understand but cheating is never the answer," Yusei said.
"Besides, have a little faith, Leo. Yusei can take him," Roxas assures.
"He's right. I don't need to cheat to beat Greiger. Now if you guys will excuse me, I have a Turbo Duel to win," Yusei said putting on his helmet.
"Go for it and take him down!" Leo smiles pumped up.
"You got this!" Roxas smiles.
Smiling back at them, Yusei revved his engine and raced out.
"You better get back to your seat," Roxas urged as Leo nodded and ran off.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, let's hear it for Yusei!" MC said as Yusei shot out of the corner and towards the starting line.
As the crowd cheered him on, all his friends were surprised.
"Hey look at that, they're cheering for him now," Tifa said.
"Yeah, because he beat me. Since he won the fans realize he's a good duelist," Gogo points out.
"People respect winners," Jessie states.
In his corner, Greiger was waiting for his turn.
'This is for my family. And when I win this match I'll get exactly what I want,' Greiger thought remembering his siblings.
Flashback:
On a starry night, Greiger was racing down an old trail on a black duel runner while two kids watched from a hill. A young boy and a girl slightly older than him. These were Greiger's siblings.
"Go Greiger!" They cheered.
Smiling Greiger waved back at them. However, this happy moment was ruined as dark flames suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Screaming Greiger's siblings hugged each other begging for their older brother to help them.
Flashback End:
'Goodwin, have I got a surprise for you,' Greiger thought as the door opened.
Revving his engine a loud noise echoed through the entire arena surprising everyone.
"What's that sound?! An earthquake?!" Yanagi panics.
Suddenly shooting out his corner was Greiger riding the biggest duel runner you've ever seen. It had 2 wheels on each leg with one on the front over a giant skull, and two upper attachments.
"Look at that! It's the biggest duel runner I've ever seen! A whopper of a chopper! It's the wheels with appeal! It's Greiger and his beast!" The MC declares.
Pulling up onto the course alongside Yusei, Greiger looked down at him amused.
His runner was almost twice as big as Yusei's runner.
"Look at the size of that thing," Jessie gasps.
"Yusei's gonna have his work cut out for him," Bolt admits as Leo joins them.
"What did I miss?" Leo asks.
"Only the most insane duel runner ever," Luna points.
Looking out onto the course, Leo gasps seeing the skull that scared him last night.
"No wonder he needed an alarm. That thing is massive," Leo gasped as they approached the starting line.
"That thing looks as vicious as Greiger's monsters," Roxas gulps watching this from the back.
'Greiger, you had better not jeopardize my chances of getting even with Yusei,' Jack thought watching this from his viewing area.
"You call that thing a duel runner? Did it come with training wheels?" Greiger mocks.
"Bigger isn't always better," Yusei simply states.
"Yeah right, talk to me after the duel. Good luck, Yusei. You're gonna need it," Greiger said ready to win this.
"And now activate the Spell World field spells!" MC declares that both runners activated Speed World.
"Duel Mode engage…autopilot standing by." As Speed World covered the arena both duelists revved their engines.
"Countdown engaged…ready…set…duel!"
Flooring it, both runners raced off beginning the duel.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 0
Greiger: 4000 SC: 0
"I'll make the first move." Greiger drew seeing a familiar card. "And I'll start with this, Spell Reactor-RE," Greiger said summoning his dragon machine monster.
Spell Reactor-RE: 1200/ 900
"I place 3 cards facedown and end my turn," Greiger said as 3 cards appeared.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 1
Greiger: 4000 SC: 1
"My turn," Yusei drew but before he could make his move Greiger's engine roared making him cringe.
"How is Yusei supposed to concentrate with that noise?" Jessie cringed.
"Who says he can?" Leo cringed.
"First I'll place a card facedown and then I summon Speed Warrior in attack mode!" Yusei said summoning his go-to warrior monster.
Speed Warrior: 900/ 400
"In that case, I activate my trap card, Hidden Soldiers! Since you summoned a monster I can summon a level 4 monster from my hand. So say hello to Trap Reactor-Y FI! And with this Yusei, I only need one more card before I can summon out your defeat!" Greiger said as his green plane machine monster appeared.
Trap Reactor-Y FI: 800/1800
"Oh no, not those cards," Roxas said remembering them from Leo's duel.
"Wait, is he?" Dexter asks catching on.
"Yusei needs to take out one of those monsters quickly," Bolt warns.
"On the turn, Speed Warrior is summoned his attack points double," Yusei said as his monster powered up. "Now send that Spell Reactor back to the shop!"
Racing in, Speed Warrior kicks Spell Reactor in the face causing an explosion but Greiger doesn't seem fazed.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 1
Greiger: 3400 SC: 1
When the smoke cleared, Spell Reactor was still standing.
"No way," Yusei gasps.
"Don't tell me you're shocked. I had two facedown cards and one of them was Fake Explosion," Greiger said revealing his facedown card. "This card prevents my monster from being destroyed it also allows me to summon a Level 5 Monster from my hand. Summon Reactor-SK!"
Appearing on his field, was the last monster of Greiger's reactor trio.
Summon Reactor-SK: 2000/ 1400
"Oh no. He has all 3 Reactors on the field," Dexter gasps.
"And if he has that Delta Reactor…" Leo pauses.
With everything in place, Greiger knew this was his moment.
"I activate my Delta Reactor trap card!" Greiger said revealing his final facedown. "This sends Summon Reactor, Spell Reactor, and Trap Reactor to the graveyard. I hate to do this to you, Yusei. But I told you last night one of us has to lose and today it's you."
As all three monsters glowed, a large plane monster appeared on the field in their place.
"Not that card," Roxas said seeing the giant that took down Leo.
"I summon Flying Fortress SKY FIRE!" Greiger declares as his monster flies behind him.
Flying Fortress SKY FIRE: 3000/ 2500
"It looks like that bad bike is not just for show as Greiger brings out his big bang beast!" The MC declares.
"If you thought it was loud before, get a load of this. Once per turn you take 800 points of damage whenever you summon a monster or place a card facedown and that card is automatically destroyed," Greiger said closing in on Yusei. "Face it, friend, you can't make a move without getting hurt! My family needs me which means you're going to have to lose this match!"
With no other moves to make, Yusei ends his turn.
"Brace yourselves, folks, because now Greiger is back in the driver's seat!" The MC said on the edge of his seat.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 2
Greiger: 3400 SC: 2
"My turn," Greiger drew. "Flying Fortress SKY FIRE attack his Speed Warrior!"
As his flying fortress rained fire down on the field, Speed Warrior leaped to dodge only to smash into a wing before being destroyed.
Yusei: 1900 SC: 0
Greiger: 3400 SC: 2
Cringing Yusei struggled to regain control as he briefly spun out allowing Greiger to take the lead.
"Oh no! Yusei's in trouble!" The MC said as Yusei managed to fix his runner and race after Greiger. "Wait! He's still in it! But that attack cost him all the speed counters he had gathered so far."
"That's not good," Gogo cringed.
"It's gonna be hard to catch up with him now," Yanagi said.
"You seem like a nice guy, Yusei. But you gotta fall. I have too much riding on this duel. I place one card facedown and end my turn," Greiger said.
Yusei: 1900 SC: 1
Greiger: 3400 SC: 3
"My turn," Yusei drew. Looking at it, he saw he drew a trap card. 'With SKY FIRE on the field, he can destroy the first card I play every turn. Which means I need to play my cards smart.' Yusei thought.
"I summon Shield Warrior in defense mode!" Yusei said as his big shield warrior appeared at his side.
Shield Warrior: 800/ 1600
"I activate my SKY FIRE's special ability! When you play a card, that card is destroyed and SKY FIRE rains 800 points of damage from above!" Greiger said as SKY FIRE fired multiple missiles destroying Yusei's monster and damaging him.
Yusei: 1100 SC: 1
Greiger: 3400 SC: 3
"Yusei spins out again!" The MC said as Yusei got control again and raced after Greiger.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn," Yusei said ending his turn.
"Greiger is wiping the track with Yusei! He has no monsters, no speed counters, if Greiger nails him with a direct attack it's over!" The MC comments.
"He's done. Greiger has him to where he can't even summon a monster without it getting destroyed." Leo said.
"He's playing much more aggressively than he dueled you, that's for sure," Tifa said.
"I wouldn't put this duel in the books just yet. Yusei could still have a chance," Bolt states.
"He can?" Yanagi asks.
"Think about it. What do we know about Greiger's monster?" Bolt asks.
"Well, once a turn it can destroy a monster or a set card," Dexter recalls.
"As soon as Greiger destroyed Shield Warrior, Yusei set a card," Bolt points out.
"That means Yusei's main focus wasn't the monster but that face down," Dexter realized.
"I bet you all corndogs that facedown is a game changer like Mirror Force," Bolt bets.
'Yusei has two facedown cards. Let's see if you're clever enough to figure out his game plan Greiger,' Jack thought.
"My turn," Greiger drew and saw it was the card Goodwin gave him.
Yusei: 1100 SC: 2
Greiger: 3400 SC: 4
'I'm sure one of his facedown cards could turn the tables. I could discard a card from my hand to destroy one of those cards. But wait…Yusei could be planning that. If I deplete my hand I won't have anything to use in the future,' Getting a new plan, Greiger floored it and raced across the field about to overlap Yusei. "Behind you, Yusei! I attack you directly!"
As SKY FIRE fired bullets down on him, Yusei braced himself.
"I activate my facedown card, Wasteland Tornado! This card allows me to destroy one spell or trap card on the field and I choose Limiter Break!" Yusei said revealing his other facedown.
"Why are you destroying your own card?" Greiger asks.
"Because when it's destroyed, I can summon Speed Warrior from my graveyard!" Yusei said summoning his warrior in defense mode. "And now that I have a monster, I won't take any damage!"
Taking the attack, Speed Warrior was destroyed.
"You may have stopped by attack but now your field is empty once again and I didn't have to get rid of any of my cards to do it," Greiger points out.
'This guy isn't messing around. He figured me out,' Yusei thought.
"Mirror Force huh?" Jessie raised an eyebrow.
"That wasn't even close," Gogo deadpans.
"Well, Tanner? Where's those corndogs you promised?" Leo asks.
"Well…we never shook on it," Bolt said embarrassed.
"Yusei narrowly dodged a bullet, but he can't keep this up. He has to get that SKY FIRE off the field," Roxas said.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn," Greiger said setting a facedown.
"My turn," Yusei drew.
Yusei: 1100 SC: 3
Greiger: 3400 SC: 5
Looking at the card, Yusei saw it was Rally's Turbo Booster.
"Rally," Yusei said softly. "I summon Massive Warrior in attack mode!" Appearing on his field was a bulky warrior carrying a large platform.
Massive Warrior: 600/1200
"With another monster summoned another monster gets leveled thanks to my SKY FIRE's special ability! Which also deals you another 800 points of damage!" Greiger said as SKY FIRE bombarded Yusei's warrior destroying it and damaging him.
Yusei: 300 SC: 3
Greiger: 3400 SC: 5
As Yusei struggled to hang on, Greiger pulled ahead overlapping Yusei.
"I activate the Speed Spell Zero Rebirth! When my speed counters are 3 or more I can summon a monster that was destroyed by an effect but its attack points become zero. And now I resummon Massive Warrior!" Yusei said as his warrior returned to the field.
Massive Warrior: 0000/ 1200
'Why would he summon a monster with 0 attack points?' Greiger thought.
"Remember what you said Greiger, we're both out for our own. And if I plan on winning this battle, I'll need my friends to help get me to the finish line. This is for you, Rally! And the rest of my pals! I special summon Turbo Booster!"
Appearing on the field was Rally's monster.
Turbo Booster: 0/ 0
"Rally's card? Oh boy, Greiger's in trouble now," Roxas smirks knowing what it does.
"Massive Warrior attack Grieger's SKY FIRE!" Yusei orders.
"You're just sending your monster to its doom!" Greiger warns.
"Not with Turbo Booster's Special ability! By releasing this card I can destroy one of your monsters as long as it battled one of mine." Yusei said as Massive Warrior jumped atop Turbo Booster.
"But you'll still take 3000 points of damage which will win me the duel," Greiger points out.
"No, I won't. My Massive Warrior has a special ability too. He makes all my battle damage zero. I release Turbo Booster!"
As Turbo Booster launches Massive Warrior into the air it smashes through Greiger's flying fortress causing it to crash to the ground and explode.
"What a comeback! Yusei has knocked Grieger's SKY FIRE out of the sky!" The MC declares.
"You may have grounded my monster but I activate my trap Chariot Pile!" Grieger said revealing his trap and giant spikes shot out of his tires. "You won't beat me, Yusei! There's too much at stake here!"
Flashback:
In Grieger's room, Greiger saw a file on Goodwin's computer.
"I can't believe it…you did this!" Greiger snaps as tears pour down his face.
Slamming his fists down on the table Greiger was intent on making someone pay.
Flashback End:
"I respect you as a duelist, Yusei! But there is something I must do and you're just a roadblock in my way! My turn!" Greiger drew.
Yusei: 300 SC: 4
Greiger: 3400 SC: 6
"I activate Chariot Pile's effect! Once per turn, I can deal 800 points of damage but the only way to negate it is if you release a monster on your side of the field. What will it be Yusei?" Greiger asks.
"I sacrifice Massive Warrior to negate the damage!" Yusei said as Massive Warrior moved in front of the spikes stopping the effect.
"You're just delaying the inevitable," Greiger states.
"My turn," Yusei drew and saw it was Junk Synchron. 'Just what I needed.'
Yusei: 300 SC: 5
Greiger: 3400 SC: 7
"I summon Junk Synchron to the field in attack mode!" Yusei said summoning his little orange tuner monster.
Junk Synchron: 1300/ 500
"And because I successfully summoned him, I can also summon a monster from my graveyard. Like my Speed Warrior!" Yusei said summoning Speed Warrior to the field in defense mode. "Now that I have him on the field, I can give Speed Warrior a little tune-up!"
"A synchro summon!" Greiger gasps.
"I tune my Junk Synchron with Speed Warrior to summon Junk Warrior! Let's Rev it up!" Yusei said summoning his purple synchro warrior.
Junk Warrior: 2300/ 1300
"Attack Greiger directly!" Yusei yells as Junk Warrior flies in. "Go Scrap Fist!"
"Not good enough Yusei! Chariot Pile has another effect! Whenever I'm targeted for a direct attack if I pay 800 life points I can stop your attack and destroy your monster!" Greiger said as a barrier appeared around him deflecting the attack and destroying Junk Warrior.
Yusei: 300 SC: 5
Greiger: 2600 SC: 7
"And just when he had gotten a powerful monster onto the field," Leo said.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn," Yusei said.
"My turn," Greiger drew.
Yusei: 300 SC: 6
Greiger: 2600 SC: 8
"I activate the Speed Spell Angel Baton! Which lets me draw two cards as long as I send one to the graveyard. Now I activate the Speed Spell Speed Fusion!" Greiger said playing a spell card.
"A fusion card?" Yusei gasps.
"I was saving this card for a special occasion but you've pushed me to this Yusei! I fuse my Black Salvo with my Flame Spirit Ignis to summon a being of pure destruction that burns all who oppose it to ashes. I summon Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird!" Greiger roared as a large flaming bird with black metal armor cawed through the entire arena.
Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird: 2800/ 2300
"I've never seen a monster like that before," Yusei said surprised.
"Take a good look because it's the last one you'll ever see in this tournament again! Fenix attack Yusei directly!" Greiger orders.
Swooping in, Blaze Fenix took a deep breath before breathing flames down on Yusei.
"I don't think so! I activate my trap card, Synchro Spirits! By removing a synchro monster in my graveyard from play I can summon the monsters that were originally used to summon it! So by taking Junk Warrior out of the game, Junk Synchron and Speed Warrior return to the field!" Yusei said summoning his two monsters in defense mode.
Leaping up to protect him, Junk Synchron took the attack from Blaze Fenix but wasn't destroyed.
"How come your monster is still standing?" Greiger asks.
"By removing Shield Warrior from my graveyard, I can prevent my monster from being destroyed," Yusei said protecting his monster.
"Then I'll activate Chariot Pile's effect! Unless you sacrifice a monster, you take 800 points of damage!" Greiger said.
"Then that's what I'll do! Go Speed Warrior!" Yusei said as Speed Warrior jumped on the spikes destroying itself and protecting Yusei.
"You just have an answer to everything huh? Well, Blaze Fenix has its own special ability one that not even you can stop!" Greiger said.
"What is he talking about?" Leo asks.
"On top of Chariot Pile which deals 800 points of damage, Blaze Phenix can destroy all monsters on Yusei's field, and for each one, he loses 300 life points," Bolt explains.
"But that's all he has left," Leo gasps.
"Exactly, and with no monsters Yusei can't protect himself against Chariot Pile or that Bird," Luna adds.
"I'm afraid your fate has been sealed Yusei! There is nothing you can do to win this Turbo Duel now. On my next turn, you're finished!" Greiger said ending his turn.
Yusei: 300 SC: 7
Greiger: 2600 SC: 9
"This is brutal! Yusei is holding no cards in his hand and only one monster! Everything depends on his next draw!" The MC said.
"Let's do this!" Yusei drew. "I summon Tuning Supporter in attack mode!" Yusei said summoning a little monster with a wok on its head.
Tunning Supporter: 100/300
"Next, I tune my Junk Synchron with my Tuning Supporter to Synchro Summon Armory Arm!" Yusei said summoning a vicious gauntlet-like monster.
Armory Arm: 1800/ 1200
"That monster doesn't even come close to beating my Blaze Fenix," Greiger mocks.
"Maybe not but when Tunning Supporter is used to synchro summon it enables me to draw another card," Yusei said reaching for his deck.
'This next draw will decide everything,' Roxas said keeping his eyes glued to the screen.
From the stands all their friends, even Mulan couldn't take their eyes off the match.
'It all comes down to this,' Yusei drew and smiled seeing he got the right card. "I activate the Synchro Return Speed Spell Card! As long as I have 5 or more Speed Counters, I can use this spell to summon a Synchro Monster that's been removed from play. So say hello to my Junk Warrior!" Yusei said as his monster returned to the field.
Junk Warrior: 2300/ 1300
"Next I activate Armory Arm's special ability! By equipping itself onto my Junk Warrior it raises my monster's attack points by 1000!" Yusei said as Armory Arm attaches itself to Junk Warrior's right arm.
Junk Warrior: 3300
"And now my Junk Warrior is more powerful than your Blaze Fenix! So you know what's next, Junk Warrior attack Blaze Fenix the Bombardment Bird!" Yusei orders as Junk Warrior flies in.
Cawing Blaze Fenix fires a barrage of fire attacks but Junk Warrior dodges them. As Armory Arm glows, it grows to a gigantic size before crushing Blaze Fenix with a giant glowing fist.
Yusei: 300 SC: 7
Greiger: 2100: 9
"Since I destroyed your monster, I can activate Armory Arm's special ability which means you take damage equal to your monster's attack points! This duel is over! You said one of us would have to lose well it looks like that someone is you!" Yusei declares.
"Impossible!" Greiger gasps.
Flying in, Junk Warrior raised his glowing arm and brought it down right on top of Greiger finishing him off.
Yusei: 300
Greiger: 0000
Spinning out, Greiger came to a stop while Yusei raced ahead.
"He did it!" All of Yusei's friends cheered.
"Huh, no wonder Trudge can't ever beat him," Mulan smiles impressed.
"I knew he could pull it off," Leo said.
"That was a close one," Luna smiles when Dexter notices something.
"Hey if the duel is over, why are those spikes still there?" Dexter asks pointing to the spikes from Chariot Pile that were still attached to Greiger's runner.
"Yusei won his match. Now it's my turn," Roxas said bracing himself.
Up in the viewing box, Goodwin and Lazar looked down at Greiger.
"Well, that's too bad. Not even Greiger could bring it out," Lazar comments.
"Yusei will awaken his abilities soon enough. We must be patient," Goodwin insists.
"I knew Greiger didn't stand a chance. All Yusei has to do is win one more duel and then he and I can settle this,' Jack thought walking away.
"That's it, people! After 6 rounds of white-knuckle action Satellite's Shooting Star Yusei managed to whip out a come-from-behind win!" The MC said as Yusei approached Greiger.
"Greiger, are you okay?" Yusei asks as Greiger stands up.
"Come on Yusei, give us a victory—" The MC starts.
"I'm fine Yusei, but it's not over," Greiger said revealing he had his own microphone.
Curious everyone in the arena turned their attention to Greiger.
"What's going on? Turn his mic off!" Lazar orders.
Confused the MC tried talking into his mic. "Hello? Testing 1, 2, 3. Is this thing on?" He asks but no one hears him.
"I was hoping to do this differently but if it needs to be like this, so be it," Greiger states.
"What's he talking about?" Roxas asks curiously looking at the screen.
"I told you about my village, Yusei. I told you about the fire and the destruction, but I learned the truth. Goodwin isn't going to help me rebuild my village like he promised. How can he when it isn't even there anymore?!"
"What are you talking about?" Yusei asks.
"Look!" Greiger said pointing to the big sphere where an image of Greiger's home appeared. "This was my village! Before Goodwin came along!"
"How's he doing that?! Someone turn off the sphere!" Lazar orders.
"Let him have his moment," Goodwin said unfazed by this.
"I hacked into Goodwin's files and found out it wasn't a natural disaster that destroyed my home. Goodwin used our valley as a testing ground. He tried to resurrect his precious Crimson Dragon but he couldn't control the energy, it was too powerful. And then—" On the screen, everyone looked in horror to show the entire valley being destroyed in a giant ball of light.
"He's going to expose everything! We must silence him!" Lazar snaps but Goodwin is still unfazed. "Aren't you concerned?"
"Don't worry, no one is going to believe him," Goodwin said surprising him and Jack.
"My village! Everyone who lived there! All gone! Vanished without a trace!" Greiger declares as the footage showed nothing but a big crater where the village was.
"I don't believe this," Roxas said in disbelief.
All the destruction of homes, willing to go so far for what he wanted. It reminded him of Xehanort.
"Greiger, are you certain?" Yusei asks just as surprised as Roxas was.
"I saw the files myself, I'm certain! And now Goodwin is going to answer for all his lies!" Getting back in his runner, Greiger races around the course.
"Greiger!" Yusei gasps.
Seeing what he was doing Mulan took out her speaker.
"Code Red on the field! Repeat! Code Red! All Sector Security officers in the arena respond!" Mulan orders.
"Now that everyone knows what you did! It's time for you to pay! For my family! My home! Your tower is about to come crashing down!" Greiger declares.
Racing along the rims, Greiger launches himself towards Goodwin's viewing box.
"No!" Racing in from the opposite direction, Yusei rams his runner against Greiger's knocking one of the wheel spikes off.
As the two runners fell back, the spikes flew towards the viewing box right at Goodwin.
Panicking Lazar dropped to the ground but Goodwin grabbed the spinning spikes in his left hand stopping the attack much to Lazar and Jack's surprise.
"How are you doing that?" Jack asks as the glove on Goodwin's hand is ripped off revealing a robotic arm.
Crashing to the ground, Greiger ran to Yusei and grabbed him by the jacket.
"Yusei! How could you do that?! I had him!" Greiger snaps.
"I'm sorry that Goodwin lied and used you, but going after him won't solve anything or bring your loved ones back. If you do things this way, you're no better than him," Yusei states.
Growling, Greiger let go of him. "GOODWIN!" Greiger roars at the top of his lungs.
The first match was over, but it didn't end the way anyone had expected. Now the only thought on anyone's mind was, what does the next match have in store?
