(Ch 8 From the Future)
Marty and Ally arrived at Doc's Mansion half an hour after leaving Lorraine's house. It was much larger than they had anticipated. "I think this is the place, Marty," Ally remarked, spotting the address number on the stone mailbox.
"Come on, he's gotta be home," Marty said, jogging up the stone walkway. They reached Doc's house and Marty knocked on the door to get someone's attention. Ally leaned against the porch and let out a sigh.
Ally noticed the door briefly open, allowing a quick glimpse of the occupant inside before closing the door. She tapped Marty on the shoulder, asking, "Marty, did you see that...?" She pondered, pushing herself up once more.
Marty spun around and was just about to rap on the door once more when it suddenly flew open. Lo and behold, it was a younger edition of Doc, sporting a hefty metal contraption on his head. "Doc?" Marty exclaimed. "Don't make a sound," he hushed to the twins as he ushered them into the mansion, slamming the door firmly behind them.
"Hey, I don't care about your names! I don't want to hear anything from you two!" Doc shouted as he removed a smaller version of that gadget from his little dog's head.
"Hey, Doc! You need to pay attention!" Marty shouted, attempting to grab Doc's attention as he was too busy tinkering with a big, smoking machine. Doc attached a suction cup to each of their heads, leaving them puzzled. What was his plan with these suction cups?
"Wait, what the hell are you-?" Ally started but Doc cut her off. "I'm gonna read your thoughts. You two come from a great distance," Doc said, guessing.
"Yeah, that's it!" Marty exclaimed, but Doc raised his hand to silence him. "Let me guess - you're asking me to subscribe to the Saturday Evening Post?"
"No, we don't!" Ally shouted in exasperation. "Don't say a word! Don't say anything now! Oh! You both expect me to contribute to the Coast Guard Youth Auxiliary!" he assumed once more, but the twins were fed up and removed the suction cups from their foreheads as they glared at him.
"Doc," Marty exclaimed as he removed the suction cup from his head, "I'm gonna put it straight forward. My sister and I are actually from the future. We used your time machine to come here, and now we need your help to get back to 1985."
Doc was watching them closely as Marty talked. They wondered if he would trust Marty's words just by looking at them.
"My God... Do you guys understand the significance of this?" he asked, putting his hand on their shoulders. Marty and Ally exchanged a glance. "It means this damn thing is completely useless!" Doc exclaimed, spinning around to remove the device in a hurry.
He dashed to the living room, with Marty and Ally right on his heels. "Doc, you have to believe us! We're not lying! You're the only one who understands how the time machine works," Ally pleaded, leaning on Doc's desk.
Doc didn't understand what she said. He touched his forehead and looked surprised. "Time machine? I never made a time machine," he said loudly, turning away from the twins. They still needed to show more proof that they were really from the future.
Marty exclaimed, "Look, here's more evidence!" as he took out his wallet. Ally also took out her wallet to display her driver's license to Doc. "My license expires in 1988! Marty's expires in 1987!" she pointed out, referring to the dates on their licenses.
"Look at our birthday, for crying out loud! We haven't been born yet!" Marty exclaimed, pointing at their birthdate. They were born in 1968, 13 years after the current time. Doc seemed unsure, so Marty showed him a picture of him, Ally, Linda, and David.
The photo displayed the four McFly kids standing by a well. Marty leaned against the well, using his hands for support. Ally stood beside him with her arms crossed. Linda and David stood on either side of them.
"Hey, check this out! This is a photo of our brother, sister, me, and Marty," Ally pointed to each person in the picture. "Oh, look at our sister's shirt. It says Class of '84," Marty pointed out, referring to the date on Linda's shirt.
Doc narrowed his eyes and grabbed a pair of pliers to pick up the photo. He placed it beneath his magnifying glass to examine it closely. "Pretty mediocre photographic fakery. They even cropped your brother's hair," Doc commented, placing the photo back on the desk.
Marty slammed his hand on the table and grabbed the picture. "We're being honest, Doc! You have to trust us!" he shouted. Doc circled around the teenagers and asked, "So, who was the president of the United States in 1985, Future Boy and Future Girl?"
The twins confidently declare, "Ronald Regan." "Ronald Regan?! The actor!?" Doc exclaimed in disbelief as he snatched up some rolled up blueprints from the desk.
Doc ran out of the house towards his garage, exclaiming, "Who's Vice President?! Jerry Lewis?!" Marty and Ally followed him, with Doc shouting, "I suppose Jane Wyman is the first lady!" as he bolted for the garage.
"Whoa, wait, Doc!" Marty yelled out, but Doc had already reached the garage and swiftly swung open the door. Ally urged, "You need to hear us out!" "I've had my fill of pranks tonight! Goodnight, future kids!" he yelled, then slammed the door shut.
Marty yelled, "Hold on, Doc! We figured out what happened! You shared the whole story," as he hit the door. "Exactly! You fell off the toilet and bumped your head on the sink. That's how you got the idea for the flux capacitor. And that's what makes time travel possible," Ally explained, looking away from the door.
Ally and Marty thought they hadn't gotten through to Doc when everything went silent for a moment. They had tried everything to make him believe them, but it seemed like their efforts were in vain. However, to their surprise, Doc finally opened the garage door and looked at them with wide eyes, indicating that he now believed them.
