After everything, Marty and Ally head back to Doc's place. As they enter the garage, they hear Doc replaying the tape Marty made in 1985, constantly rewinding it just before the Libyans appear.
While there, they think about sharing what happens to him right before that moment. They circle around the DeLorean to reach him. "Doc?" Marty calls out, catching the scientist's attention.
"Oh, Marty, Ally, I didn't notice you two come in. What an intriguing device," Doc replies, glancing back at the twins as he stands up from his kneeling position.
"Doc, we need to tell you about the night we recorded that tape," Ally begins. "Allison, please don't tell me; I shouldn't know too much about my future," Doc interrupts, getting back to work on the DeLorean, which has a big hook on the back.
"Wait, Doc, you don't get it," Marty insists, but Doc isn't having it. "No, knowing too much about my future could put my existence at risk, just like you two have risked yours!" he exclaims, bending down to meet their gaze. He makes a valid point.
Now that they're there, they can discuss the plan Doc devised while they were away. They move to the center of the garage, where a small model of the town square sits. "Alright, let me show you the plan to get you both home. Sorry for the roughness of the model; I didn't have time to paint or scale it properly," Doc explains.
"It's looking pretty good," Marty said, giving the scientist a friendly pat on the arm. "Thank you, thank you," Doc replied, nodding appreciatively. "So, what's the plan, Doc?" Ally asked, leaning against the table.
"Here's the deal: we'll run some heavy-duty electrical cable from the top of the clock tower and connect it to these two lampposts. We've rigged the time machine with a pole that connects straight to the flux capacitor. When the moment's right, you'll drive toward the cable, hitting 88 mph. Lightning will hit the clock tower, sending 1.21 gigawatts into the flux capacitor, and you two will be zapped back to 1985!" Doc explained, his eyes wide with excitement.
The twins listened intently; this was their only shot at getting back to their timeline. Doc handed Marty a toy car to mimic the DeLorean.
"You wind it up, and I'll simulate the lightning," Doc said, putting on goggles and holding jumper cables. "Ready, set," he called out as Marty wound the toy car and placed it on the platform.
"Go!" Doc shouted. Marty released the car, which rolled down the platform and hit the wire, igniting a fiery explosion. "Whoa!" they yelled as flames erupted. The car flew off the platform and crashed into a pillar, setting it ablaze.
Doc gasped and rushed to the fire, grabbing a fire extinguisher. He started dousing the flames while the twins watched nervously. "Wow, you're really boosting our confidence, Doc," Marty remarked.
"No worries, I'll handle the lightning; you two focus on your dad," Doc said, extinguishing the fire. He lifted his goggles and turned to the twins. "So, what went down between them? Did he ask her out?" he inquired.
"Um... I think so," Marty said, nervously rubbing his neck. Just as they were about to explain how Biff had caused a ruckus, a knock on the door interrupted them. "Huh? Who's that?" Ally wondered.
Doc went to check who it was and, upon seeing the visitor, turned back with wide eyes. "It's your mom! She found you two! Quick, cover the time machine!" he shouted.
They hurriedly draped a grey tarp over the DeLorean to hide it, and Doc opened the door for Lorraine, who was clutching her schoolbooks.
"Hi, Cal-Marty. Ally," she greeted, sounding a bit anxious. They had to keep it cool. "Lorraine, how did you find us?" Ally asked. "I followed you two," Lorraine replied.
'Wow, and we thought Dad was the odd one...' Ally thought. Lorraine looked at Doc, who stood with his hands on his hips. "Oh, this is our Uncle, Doc," Marty introduced, prompting a puzzled look from the scientist.
"Y-Yeah, I don't think you two have met," Ally chimed in. "Hello," Lorraine said. "Hi," Doc responded, still with his hands on his hips. Once Lorraine moved away, Doc stared at the twins, eyes wide.
"Um, Marty, this might be a bit... forward, but would you ask me to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance on Saturday?" she asked shyly, backing him toward the car. Marty glanced at Ally, then back at Lorraine, unsure of how to respond.
"Wait, so no one has asked you out?" he questioned her. "Nope," Lorraine replied, circling the time machine. "What about George McFly? He's all alone," Ally chimed in. Lorraine's eyes widened at the mention of George. "George McFly? He's not bad looking, but..." she said, glancing flirtatiously at Marty, "I want a guy who's strong, someone who can defend himself and those he cares about."
Doc leaned against the covered car, sensing the tension between Marty and Lorraine, while Ally shot Marty a look that screamed awkward. "Don't you both agree?" Lorraine asked, her expression softening. "Uh, yeah... totally," Marty stammered, scratching the back of his head. Lorraine definitely had a valid point there.
