The twins were out of breath when they finally made it to the now Lone Pines Mall because of the incident with the pine trees when they first went into 1955. When they made it, it was 1:36 am, the time that the Libyans got there. Doc's van and the other Delorean were sitting open by the van.
They saw Doc being held up at gunpoint by the Libyans before he was shot down by the terrorists, making the twins become pale in the face. They looked as if they were going to be sick but they heard their other selves screaming, "NOOO! You bastards!" getting them to look over at their other selves running behind the van.
They watched as their other selves jumped into the other delorean. It felt like a lifetime ago that they had done that. While the Delorean was being driven around, the Libyans were chasing it while shooting at it. The present Marty and Ally rolled down the shrubbed hill that was by the mall sign and they stood up, watching the other Delorean light up and vanish into thin air, causing the Libyans to go blind and crash into a newspaper stand.
When they were incapacitated, Marty and Ally looked over at Doc and they stumbled over to him. "Doc! Doc!" Marty shouted, dropping to his knees. "Doc, wake up!" Ally shouted, also falling to her knees. When they turned Doc over, he looked lifeless. The two started to sob, starting to believe that they were too late.
"Oh… no…" Marty sobbed, turning his back to the scientist, covering his eyes. "We can't be too late…" Ally said, sobbing as she leaned against Marty's shoulder. When they turned their backs to Doc, the scientist started to move around. He blinked a few times before he sat up again.
The twins heard this and they looked behind them, seeing that Doc was alive. They made eye contact with each other, their eyes widened in shock. "You're alive!" Marty exclaimed, turning around to face him. Ally couldn't say a word from the shock she felt.
Doc looked down and he unzipped his suit, pulling it apart to reveal a bullet proof vest underneath it. "What…? A bulletproof vest…? How did you know about that? We never got the chance to tell you," Ally said when she was finally able to talk. With a smile, Doc reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a familiar note.
Marty took it with a surprised look on his face and he opened it. It was the same note that he and Ally wrote back in 1955. The paper had been put back together with tape and it was a brownish color. It was hard to believe that Doc had actually kept it all this time.
"Wait, what about all of that talk about screwing with future events? The space-time continuum?" Marty asked, dropping the note after he and Ally read it. All Doc did was calmly look at the two teens, shrugging his shoulders casually at them. "Well, I figured, what the hell?" he said with a small grin. They had noticed how calm Doc was being at this moment.
His whole demeanor was collected, much different than how he acted before they went to 1955. Out of relief, the twins hug their inventor friend, feeling relieved that they were able to save his life.
