(September 5, 1885)
(3:30 PM)
Marty was at one end of the shop while Ally stayed with Doc, who was at the other end. "Doc, come in," Marty spoke into the walkie-talkie. "Check, Marty," Doc said, working on the Delorean tires.
Ally smiled at this, "Awesome, Doc! This still works," The trio walked over to a scale model of Shonah Ravine, which was sitting on a table that was in the middle of the shop. Doc started to explain, "Forgive me for the crudity of this model it's-"
"We know, Doc. It's not built to scale," Ally said, not wanting Doc to feel bad for not completing the model. They remembered Doc's model of Hill Valley from 1955 the night of the thunderstorm.
"Don't worry, Doc. It's great," Marty said, patting Doc on the shoulder. It wasn't farther from the truth. Doc had put a lot of effort to make it. He seemed to be surprised to see them a few days prior.
"Alright. Tomorrow night, Sunday, we'll load the Delorean on the tracks here on the spur right by the old abandoned silver mine. The switch track is where the spur runs off the main line 3 miles into Clayton... Shonash... ravine," Doc explained.
Ally scratched the back of her head and said, "It's gonna be weird calling it that," However, Doc kept on explaining, "The train leaves the station at 8 o'clock Monday morning. We'll stop it here, uncouple the cars from the tender, throw the switch track, and hijack..." Marty shot him a look, getting Doc to correct himself, "Borrow the locomotive and use it to push the time machine. According to my calculations, we'll hit 88 mph just before we hit the edge of the ravine, at which point we'll instantaneously arrive in 1985 and coast safely across the completed bridge,"
The siblings look closer at the model, looking at the windmill. "Um, Doc, what does this mean?" Ally asked, pointing at the windmill. "Point of no return?!" Marty blurted, almost freaking out.
"That's our failsafe point. Up until that point, we can stop the locomotive before it plunges over the ravine. But once we pass that windmill, it's the future or bust," Doc explained.
They watched as Doc hook something to his railroad model so they'd see how it would play out. The train would pull out of the station, it would come up to the switch track, they'd pull the throw switch, it'd push the Delorean up to 88 mph.
Doc catches the model Delorean before it landed on the ground. "It couldn't be simpler," Doc smirked. Ally rubbed her face and she said, "Well, we're dead," Marty elbowed her in the ribs. "Did you have to say that?" he moaned. Ally rolled her eyes before there was a knock on the door.
"Hello? Emmett?" A familiar female voice said. Doc jogs over to the door to see who was outside. He turns to Marty and Ally with wide eyes.
"It's Clara! Quick, cover the Delorean!" Doc exclaimed. The trio covers up the Delorean with a white sheet before Clara opens the door, letting herself inside.
Marty hides the model Delorean behind his back. "Hello," Clara said, smiling at Doc. "Why, hello. This is quite a surprise," Doc nodded, smiling warmly at her.
"I hope I'm not disturbing anything," Clara commented, holding a telescope in her hands. Doc shook his head and replied, "Oh, no! Not at all! We were just doing some model railroading," They walk over to the train model railroad.
Clara smiled and turned to Doc, "Emmett, when my bags were thrown from the wagon, my telescope was damaged. And... since you expressed an interest... in science, I thought you might be able to repair it for me. I would pay you, of course,"
"Oh no, I wouldn't think of charging you for this," Doc said, shaking his head. He opened the case and took out the telescope from its case. He held it out in front of his eye and closed the other.
"I think the lens may be out of alignment because if you move it this way, the image turns fuzzy, see? But, when you turn it the other way," Clara said, moving closer to Doc.
Doc moved the telescope from his eyes and lowers his hand. He turns to face Clara. They gaze at each other. " "Everything becomes clear," he said dreamily.
Marty and Ally are a few yards away, watching the whole thing unfold. They swore if Doc and Clara got any closer, it would be apparent that they will kiss.
The siblings clear their throats before it could happen. Doc and Clara look away from each other hurriedly. Clara walks a few steps toward the door. Doc takes on a queer position holding the telescope right in front of him with an idiotic look on his face.
"I will have it repaired right away and have it for you tonight," Doc said. Clara looked at him dreamily, "Oh, the town festival is tonight and I don't want you working on my telescope during such an important event. You were planning on attending, weren't you?"
Ally started to say, "Well, we were actually..." However, Doc didn't let her finish and he said, "The festival! Why, yes, we'll be there,"
Clara smiled and said, "Great, see you tonight then," Clara turned to Marty and Ally, "Mr. Eastwood, Miss, Oakley,"
Marty nodded at Clara politely, "Ma'am," Before she left, she turned towards Doc and she said, "Thank you for taking care of my telescope,"
Doc nodded and he said, "You're quite welcome," Clara then left, shutting the door behind her.
"Nice telescope," Marty said, shooting Doc a look. "Marty, you might as well forget it. He's clearly in love," Ally said, shaking her head.
