Usagi

Mom had been dating someone for the past 10 months. At first I guess she didn't think I would notice but when your mom does not come home at night you kinda figure something is up. Honestly it was about time she started dating someone, as far as I can recall she has always been by herself. Her priorities have always been work and myself and for that I will always be grateful after all some single parents completely ignore their child.

One day she came home, more excited than normal. She was bouncing on her feet, she even made a full course dinner; it had been awhile since she did that.

"Usagi darling," she said.

I looked at her and placed my fork down, "Mother?" I asked.

"As you know I have started dating a man…" she started.

"Okay…" I looked at her unsure where she was going with this.

"Things have been going well between us. At first I refused him but he just charmed his way in. As you know he does live outside the city and the drives are long. He is a good man, with good intentions. He has his own company, he lets me work and is not put off by a hard working woman like myself" she stopped to drink water.

I sight, "What are you trying to tell me mom?" I ask.

"We are moving into his house."

My jaw literally dropped. Did I hear her right? Did she just say we are moving in with a complete stranger?

"Mom, you can't be serious?' I say disbelief pouring out of me.

"I am completely serious Usagi" she looked straight at me with her serious face.

"But why?" I asked.

Why would she want to move in with him? They haven't even been together for a year.

I watch my mother look down at her plate and sigh, "Usa-chan I love this man. I haven't felt this way since the passing of your father."

My father…I have very few memories of him. He passed away when I was only five years old but I have heard of the great love he and my mother had for one another. I look at her, she finally started dating someone after so many years of being single and if she says he is a good man I suppose he must be, after all I have never known her to be wrong about people before. I nod my head at her,

"I understand mom. When are we moving?" I asked her, putting food in my mouth.

My mother beamed at me, "This weekend."

I nod again and we finish eating our dinner.

I look around the property…when she said house I expected a small two floor house not a mansion. Honestly I should have asked her for more information on this man, maybe then I could have searched him up or something. She confidently walks up the stairs and rings the bell, a few seconds later the door opens revealing an older looking lady. She smiled at us and motioned us in.

"Hi Luna, is Mamoru in?" my mother asked.

"Yes Ms. Serenity he is, he should be coming down any second now" the sweet old lady replied.

"Luna! I've told you to stop putting the Ms in front of my name. Just Serenity is fine" my mom tells her.

I study this Luna lady as she smiles at my mother and nods. Her name seems to fit her, she looked at me and smiled warmly reminding me of my grandmother. I think I like her already.

My mother started walking up the stairs when I see a man start walking down, from what I can see ,his side profile,he must be a very handsome man. The way he interacted with my mom made me smile. That's when I hear my mom introduce the man,

"Mamoru, this is my daughter Usagi."

She steps to the side and I get a better look at the man, my eyes widen such deep dark blue eyes that for some reason were looking hard at me. Why? Did he think I was a problem? We haven't even had any time together for him to give me such a look. Nevertheless this is for my mom, I take a deep breathe as I introduce myself to him,

"Hello my name is Usagi, thank you for taking care of my mother. We will both be under your care now please take care of us well" I say with a smile.

He nods at me and turns back to my mother.
