"So that's it for today, have a good day and I'll see you all tomorrow." Aizawa said as he dismissed Class 1-A for the day. Once he left the room, the students inside stood up and began to talk amongst themselves as they collected their belongings.
"Are you headed straight to Nighteye's?" Izuku asked turning to Hayato as the white haired boy put on his bookbag.
"Yeah, Mirio and I have to patrol AGAIN today and Sir would kill me if I showed up late." Hayato sighed and rolled his eyes before noticing Ochaco and Tsuyu walk up to them.
"Us too. Well sorta, Ryukyu just wants us to shadow her and Hado tonight." Ochaco said helping Izuku pick up his bookbag from the floor.
"But our time with them has been a blast so far, ribbit." Tsuyu said making Ochaco smile and nod in agreement. "What about you, Midoriya? Are you and Tokoyami going to Hawks' agency today, ribbit?"
"Hawks said he had some urgent business come up, so we don't have to go today." Izuku explained shaking his head.
"At least you guys are liking where you are." Hayato noted, surprising Ochaco and Izuku. "Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful to have a mentor like Sir. But having me go on patrol everyday is insane considering one of the last times I was on patrol: I got chased across most of the city by a guy wanting to tear into me like a Christmas present." Hayato explained before beginning to leave the room. "I'll see you guys back at the dorms, if I miss my train I'm screwed." Hayato said waving to his friends while in the back of the room Katsuki sat glaring at him.
"It must feel great being able to patrol in uniform like this right?" Mirio asked as he and Hayato began their patrol in a part of the city Nighteye specified they go to.
"Well, the tougher uniform at least." Hayato said as he remembered how Blitz tore his original suit to shreds. "It could use a couple changes for some...changes I've gone through since then."
"Oh...you're a late bloomer huh?" Mirio asked making Hayato raise an eyebrow and stare at him.
"I'm just saying, before you even blink I could smack that visor of yours across the street." Hayato said making Mirio laugh and slap him on the back.
"I'm just messing with you man, no need to get so sensitive." Mirio said before seeing Hayato stumble forward and accidentally bump into a little girl with white hair wearing a sweater and pajama pants in front of them, knocking her over.
"Oh man I am so sorry, my partner and I were just fooling around." Hayato said as he bent down to help pick the little girl up. But when he grabbed her hands to lift her up, he noted that under her sleeves: both of her arms were bandaged up. He looked down and noticed that underneath her pant legs both of her legs were wrapped as well.
"We really didn't mean to, we are so sorry." Mirio said kneeling down and noticing the same things Hayato saw as well. The girl stayed quiet as Hayato helped her stand up while a man wearing a black trench coat next to her turned around, shocking Mirio as he noticed the man was wearing a plague mask.
"It's alright, boys. My niece is a little shy." The man said in a voice that sent shivers down Hayato's spine and goosebumps across his entire body. He didn't know how, he didn't know why, even recent events wouldn't have made him think it, but he was sure of it. The man underneath that mask and coat was Blitz, there was no doubt about it. He'd heard his voice with and without his mask muffling it, and he was 100 percent certain that was him. "Just don't play so rough, someone else might not have been so understanding."
"Of course...it was an honest mistake. We honestly didn't even realize your uh...niece, was there." Mirio said while Hayato kept his attention focused on the little girl, looking at the horn sprouting from her forehead and the bandages her clothes were hiding, but it was to mostly keep himself from reacting and attacking Blitz. Once she made eye contact with him, her lip began to quiver and she began to tremble.
"It's okay, Eri. These two boys didn't mean any harm." Blitz said rubbing the back of the little girl's head in an attempt to console her but instead she jumped slightly once he touched her. "I haven't seen you two before, are you new heroes?"
"We're just a pair of students doing some field training under a pro hero. I'm Lemillion and this is my junior: Breakneck." Mirio explained while nudging Hayato to stand up.
"I see, well I see bright things for you two in the future. Especially your junior, I can see him doing great things if he's so worried about a little girl that had a little bit of a fall." Blitz said trying to get a reaction from the boy. He grinned under his mask when he could see Hayato's eyes shift towards him under the lenses of his cowl with anger and hatred evident in them.
"If I may ask sir, why the mask? It makes you seem like a shady character if I'm going to be honest with you." Mirio asked when he already knew what the mask meant. Whoever this man under the mask was, he was clearly a member of the Shie Hassaikai working under the villain Overhaul.
"Oh I was just headed to join some my friends for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign and we like to dress up, it really improves the immersion of the game. But I had to pick up my niece first and I didn't have time to change." Blitz explained before taking Eri by the hand. "We have to leave now before her father gets upset with us, it was nice talking to you two."
"Likewise." Mirio said as Blitz began to casually walk away with Eri. But as they got far from them, Eri turned around and gave one more fearful look at Hayato before looking ahead and continuing to walk with Blitz. Hayato stood up and removed his cowl, taking a deep breath as he began to mentally count to ten. "Did you notice that?" Mirio asked taking off his visor as the two walked into a nearby alley. Hayato's silence meant that he should explain himself more to the boy. "Those masks, the ones they used to use in Europe during the time of the plague, there's a group of the Yakuza called the Shie Hassaikai that's practically infamous for using those masks. It's like their calling card. Whoever that was, he sure seemed like he knew who we were."
"That's because he does. At least me." Hayato said making eye contact with Mirio. "That was the Speed Hunter, that was Blitz." Hayato said shocking Mirio who placed his hands on his shoulders.
"Are you positive?"
"Lemi...Mirio, I know that guy better than anyone else. I've seen him in and out of his costume and I've had more conversations with him than I'd like to admit. It's him, I'd bet my life on it." Hayato said, placing his hands on his hips and taking a deep breath. "That little girl...you saw that?"
"Yeah..."
"She was so scared, but it was how quiet she was that scared me even more." Hayato said before putting his cowl back on. "I'm going after them."
"What? You can't be serious." Mirio said as he grabbed Hayato tightly by the arms. "I saw the way she looked, I saw those bandages on her arms and legs, I want to help that little girl too...but we have to play this smart and report this to Sir first." Mirio said as he let go of Hayato and made eye contact with the boy. "Our jobs as heroes isn't to react impulsively and put civilians in danger." Mirio sighed as he put his visor back on and raised a finger. "He could hurt that little girl knowing that's why you're after him and we can't allow that, so let's just compose ourselves and come up with a plan."
"I held her hand...I just want to be a hero that can help everyone he can reach in time. She was right there and I let her slip away." Hayato whispered, looking down at his hands and clenched them tightly.
"We're going to find her again, I'm sure of it. But we should still go report it to Sir. He might have some insight on what to do now." Mirio said as they left the alleyway and continued their patrol.
Momo yawned as she exited the elevator on the second floor of their dormitory. She had finished her homework for the day and with Hayato busy at his internship: she didn't have much to do. But there was something on her mind that she realized she finally had a chance to address so now she was going to the one person she could talk to it about. Once she was at his door, she knocked three times hoping the boy inside would hear her. "Excuse me, Midoriya?"
"Coming." Izuku called out from behind the door. Once he opened it, he was surprised to see their Vice-Representative standing in front of his door. But considering the time they had spent together already, he let his guard down and opened the door completely. "Yaoyorozu? What are you doing here?"
"If I can come in: I'd actually like to speak to you for a moment." Momo explained herself quickly to the boy who nodded and led her inside, making sure no one else was around to get the wrong idea. Once she was inside, Momo looked around and giggled slightly at the sight of the All Might merchandise in the room.
"It reminds me of the times I went to visit your family's apartment. Anyway, onto the matter at hand: can I ask you a question?" Momo asked as she sat down on his bed.
"Sure, what's on your mind?"
"You know Hayato seems to constantly avoid talking about his family except for Mira. I was wondering: is there a specific reason he doesn't really talk about his parents often?" Momo asked making Izuku sigh and take a seat on his desk chair.
"Specifically? I think he's just more attached to Kazuma, the grandfather he lost not too long ago. Plus I think he's just ashamed for not really giving them the chance they wanted to make it up to him." Izuku explained as he thought about it for a moment and it was the best answer he could come up with. "He does love his parents, don't mistake his distance from them for hatred. He wants to give his father Raito a chance to be a father and after seeing how quickly he bought Kazuma's apartment, kept Hayato's room the way it was left when he moved in with us, and paid for the majority of Kazuma's funeral arrangements: he can see how much he really wants to reconnect with him. And his mom...well, Towa has always been a sore subject for him. He always called my mom the mom he never had, but he always knew she was out there somewhere but he was always afraid that she hated him. The day of the Sports Festival, I saw Hayato break down in her arms like I'd never seen him break down before. He didn't reject her when she held him and it was like he finally got what he was missing the entire time because he grabbed onto her and didn't let her go." Izuku explained as he looked at the floor, remembering the late night conversations they would have when neither of them could sleep. He smiled when he remembered the day when Hayato finally reunited with his parents and turned his attention to Momo who was staring at him in surprise.
"He...didn't tell me that last part."
"Well that is the day you two started dating and a lot happened. I mean a few hours before that he and I were beating each other like crazy and then I caught you two kissing in the infirmary-" Momo blushed heavily once Izuku said that and quickly buried her face in her hands.
"He didn't tell me that either." Momo groaned from embarrassment as she thought no one caught them during their private moments in the festival. "Hayato told me he told you that day, but he didn't tell me you walked in on us...why does he have to put us in these situations?"
"To be fair: you were the one who blurted out in the middle of class that you were together. Hayato was actually pretty good at keeping everything secret up until then. He just couldn't keep anything hidden from me since we slept in the same room at the time." Izuku pointed out making Momo groan even more as he reminded her of that day as well. "This is your first ever relationship isn't it?" Izuku asked making Momo remove her hands from her face and nod slowly.
"I never really had the freedom to really have a boyfriend before. There was always a boy or two that had feelings for me, but I was never allowed to pursue anyone that my parents didn't approve of or see any possible benefit from being in a relationship with them. I'll be honest, I always expected to be in an arranged marriage in the end-"
"But then came along Hayato." Izuku said making Momo smile and nod. "He's honestly the best friend I could ask for."
"I can tell. You know I thought I had the best plan for his birthday, but you really beat me that day." Momo playfully stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry at Izuku who chuckled as they began to reminisce about Hayato's birthday.
"Hayato are you in there?" Izuku asked as he knocked on his best friend's door. After a couple of seconds Hayato opened the door in his pajamas, yawning as he scratched the back of his head.
"Hey bud, what's up?" Hayato asked, grabbing his toothbrush and closing his door.
"You seem pretty tired."
"I mean we were all up pretty late celebrating Ashido's birthday last night." Hayato chuckled as they walked towards the elevator.
"Speaking of birthdays." Izuku chuckled, poking his best friend's arm. Hayato rolled his eyes as the elevator door opened and the two walked inside. "Are you excited?"
"What for? I didn't get permission to go see my family and my grandpa's doing some top secret mission." Hayato said, confusing Izuku. Once they reached the first floor: they walked into the bathroom to see Denki and Eijiro inside brushing their teeth. "Hey guys."
"How's it going, guys?" Denki said, greeting the two as they began to brush their teeth as well.
"You getting used to dorm life yet?" Eijiro asked, wiping the toothpaste off of his face.
"It's taking some time but I'm enjoying it." Izuku said giving a thumbs up to the two who nodded and gave him one back.
"Oh and before we forget: happy birthday man!" Denki said as he and Eijiro slapped Hayato's back and shook his shoulders as they walked out. Hayato began to gag and cough violently as some toothpaste fell down his throat while Izuku chuckled at the sight next to him.
"It's great to have friends like ours, right?" Izuku asked, making Hayato glare at him as he regained his composure.
"Good morning you two, did you have a good night's sleep?" Tenya asked as he walked in with his toothbrush as well.
"Well, I could still use an hour or two more." Hayato chuckled before Tenya walked up to him and extended his hand.
"First allow me as your class representative and your friend and rival to wish you a happy birthday." Tenya said making Hayato nod and shake his hand.
"Thanks, Iida."
"Rival?" Izuku asked making the two next to him nod.
"As the only two speedsters in our class, it's only normal he and I would see one another as if a rival." Tenya explained while Hayato placed a hand on Iida's shoulder.
"And since now we have the opportunity to train together, Iida and I have started training together to improve our abilities and speed." Hayato continued surprising Izuku. "Don't get jealous now, it's only natural he and I use each other to train since our Quirks are essentially opposites with how they handle our speed. I help him reach his max speed quicker-"
"-and I help him with long term use of his Quirk so he doesn't burn out too soon." Iida explained before patting Hayato's back. "You should go find Yaoyorozu, I heard she has a surprise for you."
"Alright alright." Hayato said as he walked out of the bathroom followed by Izuku. The two then sat down in the common area as Hayato fished his phone out of his pocket. He smiled as he saw messages from Hisashi, Mira, Raito, and Towa all wishing him happy birthday. He quickly responded to all of them before having a pair of arms wrap themselves tightly around his neck.
"Good morning, birthday boy!" Ochaco yelled as Hayato began to rapidly pat her arms with his hands.
"Ocha...can't...breathe..." Hayato managed to let out before Ochaco let him go and rested her chin on his head.
"Yaomomo is looking for you~"
"She would've had to identify my body in the morgue with that grip you had me in right now." Hayato said before Ochaco hopped in between him and Izuku on the sofa, pulling out a small box covered in wrapping paper from behind the sofa as well. "Ochaco, you didn't have to."
"Well Hayato, you're one of my best friends. You're awesome and you deserve a lot of good things today, so just go ahead and open it." Ochaco said as Hayato hesitantly grabbed his gift and opened it, revealing a picture frame with a photo of all three of them with Godzillo from their I-Island trip. "It's not much, but I figured this could go up on your wall."
"Ochaco, I love it." Hayato chuckled as he remembered how they had to convince All Might to ask Godzillo for the photo. He put the photo down and pulled her in for a tight hug which she happily returned. They heard footsteps coming towards them and turned around to see Momo rushing towards them with a large box in her hands. "Hey Mo-"
"Thank goodness I found you! I went to your room and you weren't there, I went to Midoriya's room and neither of you were there either, then I went asking around and Kaminari and Kirishima told me you were in the bathroom so I came rushing over here to see you!" Momo frantically said surprising Hayato who sighed and stood up.
"Well, you found me now. What's up?" Hayato asked as he grabbed the box from Momo's hands and placed them on the sofa.
"I just...wanted to tell you Happy Birthday." Momo blushed and crossed her arms, and Hayato smiled and pulled her in for a hug.
"Thank you."
"W-Well, open your present." Hayato chuckled at Momo's request and reached for the box, removing the lid from it and seeing a pair of white and gold sneakers as well as the box for a brand new and very expensive professional camera inside of it.
"Momo...what is this?"
"It's a gift from Mother and I. I got your shoe size and Mother found this camera for you. Do you like it?"
"I appreciate this...but Momo, this is too much. I don't deserve this" Hayato said as he put the lid back on the box.
"Nonsense! Of course you do! It's your birthday and you deserve this!"
"I...guess." Hayato said before grabbing Momo's hand and pulling her in for a tight hug. "Thank you, babe."
"You're welcome." Momo whispered as she kissed his cheek. She broke their embrace and gave him a big smile, raising a finger as she began to speak. "And we're going to have a wonderful day going around and shopping, and then we're going to go out to a nice restaurant tonight. So get dressed so that we can go soon."
"Um..." Hayato and Momo turned their heads to look at Izuku who spoke up. "There might be a problem with that."
"What problem?" Momo asked, raising an eyebrow as she tried to understand what Izuku meant. Then all of a sudden: the group heard rapid footsteps headed their way and turned to see Mira running towards them.
"Happy birthday, Hayato!" Mira yelled as she leapt towards her brother. His eyes widened and he opened his arms, catching his little sister and spun her around.
"Mira?! What are you doing here?!" Hayato asked as he looked down at the girl in his arms.
"We were given permission to come see you!" Mira yelled and Hayato looked ahead, his eyes widening when he saw Raito and Towa walking up with Midnight next to them.
"Mom? Dad?"
"Izuku called us and asked us if we wanted to come surprise you for your birthday." Raito explained and everyone turned to look at Izuku who began to laugh sheepishly.
"Were you surprised?!" Mira yelled as she began to hop up and down from excitement.
"He came to us and practically begged us to allow them to come see you. That was why we rejected your request to go visit them since they were already coming here." Midnight explained Hayato's surprise even more for him and the white haired boy couldn't help but laugh in response.
"You're ridiculous. Why didn't you tell me?" Hayato asked and Izuku shrugged.
"Wouldn't be much of a surprise if I did, now would it?"
"I guess you're right." Hayato said as he walked over and patted Izuku's back. "Thank you, brother."
"I had to match what you did on mine in some way. I think this is close enough."
"Um..." Momo shyly placed her hands behind her back and took a step backwards. Hayato realized what she was doing and walked back to her, wrapping his arm around her waist.
"Mom. Dad. I want to introduce you to the most important person in the world to me." Hayato began as he led Momo to his parents. She blushed as they got closer and she looked up at the adults in front of her, nervous about what to say. "This is Momo Yaoyorozu, my girlfriend." Towa and Raito's jaws dropped when they realized that this was the famous Momo Mira kept telling them about.
"H-Hello."
"This is her? She's beautiful." Towa said, covering her mouth from shock as she studied the younger woman in front of her.
"Wow. Sorahiko was right, she really is something else." Raito muttered before he gave his son an approving nod. Momo blushed even more and nodded, extending a hand to them.
"Th-Thank you."
"No need for that." Momo looked at Towa confused before the woman suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her in for a hug. "I'm so happy to finally meet you. Thank you for taking care of our son, he really does treasure you." Momo sighed in relief and returned the hug, smiling from what the woman in front of her had just said.
"I'm so happy to finally meet you too." Momo said and Hayato sighed in relief as he remembered Ichigo's words to him: family is family, no matter what.
"So what do you want to do today? The sky's the limit for my boy's birthday." Raito asked as he placed his hand on his son's head and ruffled his hair slightly.
"W-Well...I don't really know-"
"I had some plans for his birthday today, but we can all do it and celebrate together!" Momo spoke up, making Mira smile and cheer.
"A day with us, Hayato, and Momo! This is going to be awesome!"
"What do you say, son? Can we celebrate your big day with you?" Raito asked and Hayato couldn't help but smile and nod.
"Of course, Dad. It's all I've ever wanted."
"That was such a wonderful day." Momo sighed as she remembered the day she and Hayato spent with his family and finally the dinner they had with Ichigo and her father where she was sure Hayato was more nervous than she was.
"He's always been so humble about those things that I think we both managed to give him the best birthday ever."
"I would be happy if we did. But I was just curious because after that day: he never really talked about them again."
"That's all it is. But I know that he'll eventually keep closing that distance between them. It's just that right now with this dorm system and his internship: he doesn't really have that many opportunities to."
"Speaking of which. Do you really think Sir Nighteye is an effective mentor for him?" Momo asked and Izuku sighed as he began to think.
"Maybe on the outside, no. But if it wasn't for Nighteye: Hayato has improved so much. He learned phasing because of him, he survived our fight against Blitz and Stain because of him, Hayato's become a more effective hero because of Nighteye." Izuku's reasoning made Momo think for a moment and nod in agreement. "Maybe I'm crazy, but I think Hayato really needed the grounded and serious Nighteye as a mentor to truly improve his quirk."
"And let's see if Hawks ends up being the same for you." Momo said and Izuku nodded in agreement.
"He will be. I just have to give him a chance."
A/N: Sorry for the extremely overdue update, but now I'm finally going to move ahead with the Overhaul arc. I was just waiting until the manga ended to be able to plan out how to move ahead with the story. I'm also going to be alternating between this one and my new Fairy Tail story so please bear with me since the updates won't be as frequent, but I promise what I have planned for this story will not disappoint.
