Chapter One: The Howl of Destiny
The moon hung high over the dense forests of Silverwood, bathing the trees in pale light. Alex Baliton walked alone along the winding trails, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket. The woods had always called to him, though he never understood why. It was more than just a peaceful escape—it felt like home in a way nothing else did.
Tonight, however, the forest was restless.
A low growl echoed between the trees, making Alex stop. His breath hitched as he scanned the darkened landscape, his heartbeat quickening. The sound came again, this time closer. The wind carried the scent of damp earth and something… foul. Rotten, almost.
Then, the trees shifted. No—not the trees. Something moved among them, too fast for his eyes to follow. A massive shape emerged from the shadows. Its body was twisted, a grotesque mix of animal and dark energy. Gleaming horns curved from its head, and its glowing red eyes locked onto Alex.
"Human," it rasped. "You should not be here."
Alex took a step back. "That makes two of us, buddy."
The creature snarled and lunged. Alex barely had time to react before instinct took over. He rolled to the side, landing in the dirt as claws slashed through the air where he had just been standing. The monster turned, exuding a dark aura that made his skin crawl.
"Alex!" A voice rang out from the trees.
He turned to see a young woman with sharp, determined eyes charging forward. She wielded twin daggers that shimmered with a faint, golden glow. Without hesitation, she slashed at the creature, forcing it back. The monster roared, swiping at her with a massive claw, but she was fast—too fast.
"Kari?" Alex's voice was hoarse with confusion. He knew her—she worked at a local research center—but he had never seen her like this. She moved like a warrior, her every motion precise.
"No time for questions," she snapped. "We need to go—now!"
Before Alex could argue, the monster lunged again. Kari shoved him aside and met its attack head-on. But this time, the creature was ready. Its massive arm swung, catching her mid-dodge. She hit the ground hard, gasping in pain.
Something in Alex snapped.
The sight of Kari injured, the overwhelming sense of wrongness from this creature—it triggered something deep within him. A force surged inside, like an ancient energy awakening after being dormant for too long. His hands burned, and his vision blurred.
Then, he heard it. A howl—deep, resonant, and powerful—echoing not from the forest, but from within him.
A silver glow surrounded his body as an emblem of a wolf appeared on his hand. The monster hesitated, its red eyes narrowing. Kari, still on the ground, gasped.
"No way…" she whispered. "It's you."
The energy inside Alex exploded outward in a burst of silver light. His clothes shimmered, morphing into armor with blue and silver accents. Gauntlets formed around his hands, and a silver visor covered his face.
Instinct took over. He dashed forward, faster than before, his movements fluid and precise. The monster swung its claws, but Alex ducked under the attack and countered with a powerful strike, sending it stumbling back.
He wasn't sure how, but he knew what to do.
Drawing the twin sabers now strapped to his back, he slashed in a fluid motion, his blades glowing with lunar energy. The creature let out a final, agonized roar before dissolving into black mist, which faded into the wind.
Silence filled the forest.
Alex stood there, panting, staring at his hands. The power—the energy—it still hummed inside him. He turned to Kari, who had pushed herself up, watching him with a mix of awe and relief.
"Welcome to the fight," she said, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Lunar Wolf."
Alex swallowed hard. He didn't understand what had just happened, but one thing was certain—his life would never be the same
