"Who are you?"

"I apologize for interrupting your dinner, but I thought I should introduce myself."

"What do you want?"

I heard our esteemed guests had arrived and came to welcome them. Of course, my comrades and I have only one way of saying hello. Now then… which one of you will challenge me?"

"I will."

"Lead the way, Young Prince."

"Let's duel!"

"Say hello… to Earthbound Immortal Uru!"

"I Fusion Summon! Elemental HERO Core! You're not getting any more innocent people!"

"Heh. That's fine. We already have plenty."

"D-Dahlia!"

"Mario… help."

"Opaline, what have you done?"

"I simply freed your friend's spirit so she could duel you instead of me."

"I won't duel her!"

"You have no choice. You're either going to attack and win or be attacked and lose. What will it be, Young Prince? Are you going to battle one of your friends or just stand there and let the world down to save this one pathetic pal of yours?"

"Mario… you don't understand her power. She can do whatever she wants."

"I won't do it, Dahlia. I'm not gonna fight you!"

"You have to- you and the others are the only hope left… I now attack with Uru!"

"Dahlia, no!"

"Please don't do this."

"I know you'd rather get sent to the Shadow Realm than duel me, Mario. That's why I have to end this duel on my own terms."

"No! Dahlia!"

"Mario… you can bring us back. We know you will. Save us."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

"No wonder the human race is going extinct. No one's selfish anymore."

"Now, let's cut them a break, Mistress Opaline. They did just learn their friends are our prisoners."

"Are they-"

"Gone? Heh! Your pals are, and the others we've taken with the shadows are with us. Soon, the entire world will experience the same thing. Good to see you, Mi Amor. You want to get them back? Well, I'm right here, Mario. Or are you scared?"

"Yeah, I'm scared. Scared of what I'm gonna do to you, pendaja! As far as I'm concerned, you and your dark cronies are about to go down!"

Both sides stood staring at each other as the battle line for this war was set. Opaline looked at her seven chosen officers while Sunny and her friends looked at them.

"Alright, Opaline. This is it. It's time to pay for what you've done," stated Mario.

"Well, before you try and cash out, I have something to give you all that you might need," said one of Opaline's commanders as they reached into their cloak and tossed a rolled-up piece of parchment.

"And in case you're wondering who I am," said the figure who tossed the paper as they reached up to remove their hood and expose their face. "My name is Adam, and the power of the shadows has deemed me to be Despair."

Another figure stepped forward and removed their hood.

"I am Melody, and Fear is my game." stated the girl.

"Kross is my name, and I look to bring about Wrath to this world."

"You can call me Dawn. And don't let this perfect beauty fool you, for I bear Animosity."

"Hope you all packed your bags for a one-way trip to the Shadow Realm. The name's Bron and Pride is my game."

The piece of parchment landed beside the group as Twilight reached down to grab it. She opened it up and saw what was on the piece of paper.

"Fate has finally brought us together. Light versus darkness," stated Opaline. "Let us meet tomorrow for the seven trials to begin. The end will be decided there."

Opaline then turned, as did her commanders, as they followed her into the city, where the fog was rolling in.

"Hold on, where do you think you're going?" said Mario as he chased after Opaline. "Don't you walk away, Opaline!"

"Mario!" shouted Twilight as Isaac went after his son.

"Hey! Come on! Let's do this right here, right now!" stated the teen as he was in the fog, trying to locate Opaline.

"Don't be so impatient, Young Prince," chuckled Opaline through the fog as it echoed around the boy. "We can't battle here. We're not supposed to"

"What do you mean we're not supposed to?" repeated Mario, looking around. "It sounds to me like you're scared."

"Don't be a fool. Just come to trial that awaits you. We'll be waiting." said Opaline.

"I'm done playing your little games. Get out here. Get out here and duel me!" shouted the teen.

"Mario."

Isaac appeared behind his son as he touched the boy's shoulder. The World Champion tried to calm down his son as he knew he was running on emotion when he needed to think things through.

"Don't let her get to you. That's what she wants. We need to regroup with the others." stated Isaac.

Mario pushed his father's hand away from his shoulder, turned, and returned to where the others were. Isaac sighed, knowing what his son was going through before he joined them.

The group all returned to the lighthouse and began discussing tonight's events.

"I can't believe Jazz and everyone we know is gone," said Pipp.

"I didn't think Opaline would do it, but she's removed friends from right under our noses. And we didn't notice it," said Hitch. "How could we let this happen?"

"It's not your fault, Hitch. It's nobody's fault. This is all Opaline's doing!" stated Zipp. "They've taken out friends and innocent people!"

"Zipp's right," said Sunny. "We're not going to do much by sitting around here and blaming ourselves for things the bad guys did. But I'll tell you what we are going to do about it. We will defeat Opaline and her forces and get everyone back."

"Hold on a moment. Are you saying you can bring everyone back?" asked Moondancer to the girl.

Sunny gave a nod to the woman.

"How is that possible?"

"Because we can!" stated Sunny.

"So we get our friends back?" said Izzy.

"Yeah," said Sunny while Zipp stared at her friend seriously.

"Excuse me, kids," said Moondancer as she left the room the teens were in to check on some things.

Once the woman left and the kids were alone, Zipp stood up and confronted Sunny.

"That was quite the promise you just made, Sunny. So, let me get this straight. We defeat Opaline and her commanders, and then everyone who disappeared, including our friends, will just magically reappear, is that right?" repeated the heiress as the way she said it made it sound like Sunny was speaking out of her ass and not fully confident with her theory.

Sunny kept her head down as she didn't immediately answer her friend.

"You don't know that's true?"

"I know," answered the girl.

"So why lie, Sunny? We expect you to tell the truth!"

"Look… that's just something I need to believe," the girl responded as Zipp grabbed her by the shirt.

"And what if it doesn't work!" shouted the heiress, shaking her friend.

"Zipp, calm down!" said Pipp.

"Come on, guys. Everyone's just upset. Sunny's just trying to give us a little hope." said Izzy as she pulled on Zipp's arm to make her release their friend.

Zipp let go of Sunny as she scoffed before angrily kicking over a chair.

"Stupid hope," mumbled the heiress.

"I'm with Sunny on this," said Roll.

"Me too. If we're going to win this, we have to believe that we can protect the people still here and bring everyone else back," stated Hitch.

"This coming from the guy who couldn't even work up the nerve to tell his best friend he loved her and was having second thoughts about fighting Opaline," remarked Zipp as she glared at Hitch.

"Yeah, I had second thoughts about fighting the darkness. I also doubted confessing my feelings to Sunny, but I didn't give up. So if she says we can bring everyone back, I believe her."

"Fine… let's go be heroes," said Zipp as she gave in to Sunny's naive thinking.

"Well, I'm glad we're on the same page. But I have a question. She mentioned that we would meet for the seven trials. Any clue what she was referring to?" asked Pipp.

"I believe I can answer that," said Twilight as she appeared.

She'd been listening in on the kids' conversations as she overheard them arguing about getting everyone back.

"What is it, Mom?"

"Take a look at this," stated the card designer as she had the parchment that Adam gave them and laid it on the table.

The kids gathered around her as they examined the map. It was a map of the entire city, with seven locations marked with one big marking directly in the center. In addition, small writing was used for each specific location.

"It appears Opaline was referring to where her allies are stationed in the city. But that's not all; I'm sure you're aware from Mario's duel with Rose and Roll's duel with Bolt that each of Opaline's commanders has been given a powerful creature by the darkness to aid them in their quest. There are seven in total, and they've all been given nicknames. There's the Destroyer, the Prophet, the Terror of the Skies, the Thorn Dragon, the Undead Giant, the Siren, and the Beast of the Land."

"Okay, and what does that have to do with anything?" asked Zipp.

"Well, each one is assigned to a commander. And just like you all represent a part of unity, so do they. They represent chaos and disharmony. Wrath, Pride, Animosity, Despair, Fear, Deceit, and Hate. As you can tell, they're the opposites of your respective element." stated Twilight. "As to where which is which…"

Twilight pointed to the top of the map as it read the Destroyer.

"Wrath."

She pointed to the next marked location that read: the Siren.

"Fear."

The next one read: the Beast of the Land.

"Animosity."

The next one was the Undead Giant.

"Deceit."

Following that one: the Prophet.

"Despair."

After that was the Terror of the Skies.

"Pride."

And lastly was the Thorn Dragon.

"Hate."

"So each of Opaline's commanders has taken a post up of the city and is waiting for us," said Zipp.

"Correct. And if I'm assuming correctly, that's what the seven trials are," stated Twilight.

"So the big circle in the middle- I'm assuming that's Opaline herself," stated Pipp.

"If video games have taught me anything, we probably won't be able to confront Opaline herself until we take out her commanders," said Hitch.

"I would expect that to be on point, Hitch," responded Twilight, as they knew Opaline wouldn't come out of her hideout unless the kids somehow managed to beat her officers.

"Still… these locations are pretty spread out," said Roll, as she noticed where each of Opaline's commanders was supposedly located.

"So, what's the plan? Hit them all one by one," suggested Izzy.

"That would be a huge waste of time," said Mario as he finally spoke after remaining quiet. "Besides, a duel is one-on-one. The way I see it… we're gonna have to split up and go solo."

"But Mario-" said Sunny.

"Sunny's, it's basic math. There are seven of Opaline's commanders and seven of us. Seven locations, seven trials. How much more do I need to spell it out for you?" said the boy as he raised the sleeve of his blazer to reveal his mark and get across his point.

"But we were just starting to become a real team?" Izzy asked, not wanting to say goodbye and go off alone.

"No, Mario is right," said Sunny, causing the others to look at her. "We're still a team, Izzy. All of us. Even if we're apart, we're still fighting for the same thing."

"I guess you're right," responded the girl after hearing Sunny's statement.

"So, the really question is- who's taking what?" asked Roll as they all looked at the map.

"I'm pretty sure the Thorn Dragon means Rose. So I'll take her on. She and I have a score to settle!" stated Mario as he expected Rose to be waiting for him.

Hearing the boy confront his ex, Zipp and Pipp looked at him, frightened for his safety, given their previous duel.

"You're not the only one, bro. I have some unfinished business with Bolt Switch. Given how Opaline has twisted her lies, I'm sure he represents Deceit. So if he's got the Undead Giant, I will face him!" stated Roll.

"So you two clearly have your targets, as for the rest of us-" said Pipp as the remaining five looked at the map.

"I'll take on the Beast of the Land," stated Hitch, pointing to the location that read Animosity.

"I got the Terror of the Skies," said Zipp as she took the marked area of Pride.

"I'll go confront the Siren," said Pipp as she would be against the dark signer representing Fear.

"Guess I'm facing the Wrath commander and the Destroyer," responded Izzy.

"So that leaves Despair for me," Sunny said softly as she eyed its location on the map and the words "the Prophet."

"So that's all worked out? But how are we gonna get there? If we go by foot, it'll take ages." said Zipp.

"Luckily, we have something," said Isaac as he made his presence known.

The kids stood before the cargo chopper as it opened. As Moondancer pulled the tarps off, they saw the tarps from before, and sure enough, underneath them were Duel Runners.

"No way!" said Zipp as she approached one of the vehicles.

"Compliments from your mother. She and her engineers were able to finish the prototypes."

"Sweet! I can't believe Mom got these made," said Zipp. She couldn't believe it after hearing Isaac mention her mother had these made to help them fight.

"However, she didn't have time to finish making one for each of you. Given the short notice, she only made three."

"Well, I call dibs on one of them already!" said Zipp as she staked her claim on getting a Duel Runner.

"So, kids, which of you is gonna use one?" asked Twilight, looking at the remaining teens.

They all exchanged looks as if deciding who would get to use them for their duels. Soon, a sound was heard as one of the other Duel Runners started up. Mario was shown on the seat as he turned the throttle and made the vehicle give a loud engine purr.

"I'm taking one," stated the boy.

"No objections here," said Roll before turning to the others.

"I'm good," said Pipp as the others were fine with Mario taking the second Duel Runner.

"So, one left?"

"I'll do it," said Hitch, taking a step forward.

"You sure, Hitch?" asked Moondancer.

"I'm sure," said the boy as he stepped forward to take the last Duel Runner.

"So they have a way to get to their locations? What about us?" asked Pipp.

"Luckily, we have these," said Moondancer as she pulled more tarps to reveal some cars.

"Then I guess we're all set," stated Sunny. "Okay, guys. Tomorrow, we save our friends and the world!"

After hearing Sunny's declaration, the others nodded, determined to take down Opaline and rescue everyone they had taken.

The next day came as the skies were filled with grey clouds. Standing on the bridge that would lead into the city were Sunny and the others. Hitch, Zipp, and Mario were all positioned in front of the cars as they put on their helmets and revved up their Duel Runners as they were on standby. Behind the trio were four cars. In one of them, Roll was with Twilight as she would be taking her daughter to her location; Sunny was with her father; Pipp was with Moondancer, and Izzy had the honor of riding shotgun with Isaac. As they left, Argyle informed the Bay Area residents to remain in town as they would be safe for now.

The seven kids knew of the dangers that awaited them as they were moments away from engaging Opaline and her forces. Everyone felt some nerves coursing through their body as they knew this was a dangerous task that might result in some of them not making it. Even with that, they all knew they had to do this.

"This is it, you guys. Are you all ready?" asked Isaac to the kids.

"Yep!" answered Izzy as the others gave nods.

"Good luck," stated the World Champion as he prepared to shift the car into drive.

"Come on, Sunny. We've got duels to duel, so give us one final rousing speech to motivate us!" said Zipp as she turned to look at their friend, whom they considered their leader.

"Uh, well, I didn't have anything prepared 'cause I never expected to have one," stuttered the girl as she was caught off guard by Zipp's request. "Uh, well, we all know what's at stake… and we know that we need to win… so let's make sure-"

The girl was fumbling over her words, as she didn't like being put on the spot. Mario sighed and shook his head before speaking up.

"Alright, listen up! This is it. The time has come. We all know Opaline and her allies are powerful. So you can expect them to be tough. We're the only things standing in their way of world domination. If you should find yourself up against a wall, just think of the rest of us. Think of your friends! We're all in this, and even when we're apart, we're together!"

The others all got fired up after Mario's speech. Sunny was thankful the boy came to her rescue. She smiled at Mario, who gave her a thumbs-up.

"Now, let's show these cabrones how we do things!"

Mario revved up his Duel Runner as he took off and raced forward.

"And if any of you lose your duel, you'll have to answer to me," stated Zipp as an extra incentive to the others not to fail.

"Good luck, Hitch," said Sunny as she leaned out the car window to kiss her boyfriend.

"Thanks. You too, Sunny," said Hitch, putting the eyeshield of his helmet down.

The heiress put her foot on the pedal as she raced forward and let out a shout of excitement as she felt the wind in her face despite hearing her helmet. Hitch soon followed as he took off. The adults put the cars into the drive as they raced forward behind the teens on the runners. All seven vehicles raced across the bridge as they entered the vacant city. Upon crossing, they all jumped over a sign that served as a ramp and leaped into the air. They all landed as they were now on a street before Hitch, Mario, and Zipp all broke away, going down separate streets to head toward their respective location.

Meanwhile, Isaac and the others kept going forward to a highway with four different ramps. The four cars soon formed a straight line, moving in a formation. They each took a different ramp that led in a different direction as they split up. The seven guardians were now on their own, and their faces flashed once in a montage with determined looks. They knew this was it, as the world's fate rested on them being victorious.

Isaac was shown still driving on the highway as his copy of the map was inputted into his duel disk. He had the location of Izzy's duel mark as he was heading there to drop the girl off so that she could hopefully pass her trial. As they drove, Izzy peeked out the window and saw how empty the city was, as she could only imagine how happy it must've been before. Seeing all the sadness and emptiness around them made her feel slightly sad.

"What's the matter, Izzy?" asked Isaac as he noticed the girl's expression. "Nervous?"

"Not so much- I'm just thinking about everyone here. It's sad to see how empty this place is. Reminds me of-"

Isaac could see that the deserted city was affecting the girl. He reached over with his free arm and put it on her shoulder. Izzy felt his touch as she looked at him.

"Come here," gestured Isaac so the girl could get closer.

Izzy obeyed as she scooted closer to the World Champion until she was leaning against his side. He had his arm around her other shoulder as if hugging her. He had his hand on her arm as he rubbed it up and down to comfort the girl. He leaned down to give her a quick kiss on her head, and Izzy enjoyed it.

"Feeling better?"

"Yeah, thanks," said the girl, feeling the World Champion ease some of her sadness.

She leaned in closer and closed her eyes as she rested against Isaac's side while he held her. The World Champion looked at the girl, glad he could give her some emotional support, and he held Izzy as if she were his daughter. The pair soon exited the highway and entered the area of Izzy's selected trial. They were approaching what seemed to be a recycling center, and a large gate surrounded the huge factory. Isaac halted the car a block away from the place and awoke Izzy, who had fallen asleep. Izzy awoke as she got up from leaning against the World Champion to rub her eyes. The girl then looked ahead as she saw the factory as steam emitted from the chimneys above to show that it was still working.

"You ready, Izzy?"

"Y-yeah," nodded the girl.

"It's okay. I'll be right by your side," stated the man as they exited the car.

The duo walked past the gate as they began to approach the factory. Upon entering, they saw that it'd been completely transformed from how it was originally. The inside was much bigger as Opaline and her allies had used their power to transform it into a battlefield for trials between light and dark. The pair managed to navigate some hallways before they came to a crossroads.

"Which way?" asked Izzy.

"You see what's on the left, and I'll take the right. If you find anything, get me. Okay?"

"Okay," nodded Izzy.

"Don't worry, Izzy. I'll be by your side," smiled Isaac, rubbing the girl's head before he took the path to the right.

Izzy turned and began to walk down the left hallway as she cautiously looked around. The girl eventually came to a giant open space within the factory, where tons of machinery and stuff lay about. Tons of conveyor belts around her were transporting stuff to be sorted, and she could hear them hard at work. Izzy walked down a flight of stairs as she approached the center of the room.

"Hello? Anybody here? Mr. Destroyer, sir. I'm ready to duel!" said Izzy.

"I've been waiting for you!" responded an echoed voice.

Izzy instinctively jumped at the voice before purple flames began to emit and surround the girl and part of the huge open courtyard of the factory. Isaac had emerged from his corridor as he was in the main office that overlooked the entire factory. He looked down to see Izzy below him in the courtyard as it seemed the girl found her target. Above their position, the Mark of the Shadows projected in the sky, and Izzy's mark as the two overlapped. The others also noticed the two glowing projections in the sky as they took a moment to look.

"Check it out!" said Sunny, looking out the window to her right to see the glowing marks.

"Who's dueling?" asked Argyle to his daughter as she touched her mark and closed her eyes.

"Izzy," answered the girl.

"The final round has begun," said Mario as he stopped his Duel Runner and looked up at the symbols. His mark glowed and hummed as he sensed that Izzy was the one to kick things off in this war.

"Looks like the first trial has started," said Roll.

"Let's hope we win," responded Twilight as she continued driving.

Back in the recycling factory, Izzy was coming to grips with what was happening.

"So if I'm in the middle of this barrier, that means-"

"Who are you?" said a voice.

Izzy jumped as she turned around to reveal herself and came face to face with the commander assigned to the post. The Shadow Duelist in charge of this place called himself Kross, as his expression wasn't pleasant but annoyed.

"You got to be kidding me? You! You of all people?!" barked the evil boy as he couldn't believe his luck. "Of all the ones, I had to be stuck with the stupid idiot of the group! Is this some mockery by Opaline? What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to duel you, that is- if you think you're strong enough to take me on," said Izzy, trying her best to act tough and not show fear in front of the evil boy.

"You must be joking? Where are your friends? Why didn't one of them come instead of you? I want a real challenge, not some charity case!"

"Yeah, well- they're busy with other things. So it looks like you're gonna have to settle for me, mister," stated Izzy.

"I'd rather face a monkey than duel such a pathetic, mindless hippie like you! How the light chose you to be one of its protectors is a mystery the world can't solve. Listen up, little girl, you don't know what you're dealing with. You have no idea of my powers; why don't you run along and fetch one of your other friends to duel me? If you have any ounce of brain in that empty head of yours, you'll see I'm sparing you."

"Yeah, well… that's not gonna happen!" said Izzy as she spoke louder than usual while standing her ground. "I may not be the smartest of the group or the most serious, but that doesn't mean I can't rock a deck! Now, come on! Let's see what you're made of!"

The girl refused to be bullied by the corrupted boy as she strapped on her duel disk and slotted in her deck. Her duel disk came online and projected a blue-colored card tray.

"Atta girl, Izzy. Don't let him intimate you," said Isaac as he applauded Izzy's willingness not to be pushed around and stand up and fight. "You're just as good as the others. Prove it to him."

"I don't know whether you're dumb or just plain stupid. Perhaps both. But if you insist on wanting to face me, then so be it. I will have no problem sending a worthless duelist like you to the Shadow Realm!" stated Kross as he threw open his cloak to reveal his duel disk; it projected a card tray made of fire.

"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing duel." said both devices.

Izzy's Life Points: 8000-

Kross's Life Points: 8000-

"I at least applaud your enthusiasm to wanting to be destroyed. Especially since you don't have the power to match me, hippie!"

"You don't know that!" barked Izzy.

"Oh, I do," smiled Kross.

"Let's duel!" said both teens.

In one swift motion, they both drew their opening hands as they looked at them.

Turn 1: Izzy (Hand 5)

"I'll go first."

"You'll need it," mocked Kross.

Izzy shook off that comment as she tried not to let the evil boy's insults affect her and keep her composure.

"Let's get this battle going. I draw!" stated Izzy. "Since I control no monsters, I can special summon my Junk Forward(900/1500)!"

Izzy's robotic monster raced onto the scene as it came to a screeching halt and stood before the girl.

"Next, I play the continuous spell card, Machine Assembly Line. All my Machine-type monsters gain 200 extra attack points with this in play. Then I summon my Quick-Span Knight(1000/800)."

A small knight coated in silver with a face and a tiny wrench appeared.

"I now tune my Level 3 Quick-Span Knight with my Level 3 Junk Forward!" Izzy's monster turned into three giant green rings that circled its comrade, who turned into three white stars lined up with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! Combat Wheel(2500/1200)!"

A loud engine sound emerged from behind Izzy. As it raced from out of nowhere, it was a monster that did some donuts before halting.

"And due to my spell card, my Combat Wheel gains 200 extra attack points. With that, I set a card facedown. Now give me your best shot!" stated Izzy.

Turn 2: Kross (Hand 5)

"It's my turn, hippie. I draw," said the boy, looking at what he got and smirking. "I set a monster facedown in defense mode. That ends my turn."

"H-huh?" said Izzy, taken aback by Kross's little of a turn.

"What's wrong? Scared?" smirked the evil boy as he could see how his play rocked Izzy.

"No, just… was expecting more, is all," responded the girl, trying to keep her brave composure.

Turn 3: Izzy (Hand 2)

Something's wrong here. Why would Kross play a monster in defense mode with no set spell or traps? It doesn't prove much value… but it depends on the monster he set. Izzy better approach this cautiously.

Isaac crossed his arms and looked down at Izzy, wondering if she would take the bait.

"My turn. Combat Wheel, take out his facedown monster!" stated Izzy as her monster rushed forward.

As it zoomed in closer, Kross's card flipped up as his monster was revealed. Izzy's creature managed to run it over as it vanished.

"Thank you because you destroyed my Superheavy Samurai Soulpiercer(1200/0). When it's sent to the graveyard, I add a 'Superheavy Samurai' monster from my deck to my hand. And the monster I choose is this: Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji." stated Kross as his duel disk ejected the card for him to grab and show it off to the girl.

"I end my turn."

Turn 4: Kross (Hand 6)

"My turn, I draw. And I special summon my Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji(800/1800) in defense mode. When I have no spell or trap cards in my graveyard, I can special summon this card from my hand. And since I don't have any spells or traps in my graveyard, that will never be a problem."

"Wait, what? You mean… you put all your monsters in defense mode and don't use any spell or trap cards?" said Izzy, so caught off guard by Kross's deck and playstyle that she didn't know what to make of it.

Izzy's never faced this type of deck. That could be a problem.

Isaac could see and sense the girl's uncertainty as he knew Kross's plan for the duel. But given he was facing someone of Izzy's caliber, he feared the girl would be in for a rough ride and get a first-rate experience of what his deck could do.

"Now… I tribute my Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji so that I can summon this! Superheavy Samurai, Big Benkei(1000/3500)!"

A large, robotic samurai warrior clad in heavy armor appeared. It spun its weapon before planting it into the ground, making the factory and Izzy shake so that she nearly fell.

"I thought you needed two monsters to tribute to summon a Level 8 monster," said Izzy as Kross only got rid of his previous monster to bring out this big warrior.

"That's the ability of my Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji. He counts as two monsters when it's tributed," smirked Kross. "And now… I activate Big Benkei's ability. When he's summoned, he can change his battle position. So, I switch him into defense mode."

"I don't get this deck. How does he plan to win if he doesn't use any spells or traps? Especially if he just summons his monsters in defense mode. I'm confused." mumbled Izzy.

"Now… It's time for Big Benkei to attack."

"Huh?"

"You heard me! Big Benkei, take out her Combat Wheel!" stated Kross.

"But your monster is in defense mode."

"I know. And that's exactly why! Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei can attack while in defense mode, and when it does, it doesn't use its attack points; it uses its defense points for the battle."

"No way!"

Izzy gasped as she realized that meant.

"Big Benkei has 3500 defense points, so it has more than enough to take out your monster. Show her!"

Kross' monster slammed its fist on the ground, creating a fire erupting from the cracks it made. It traveled toward Izzy's monster, and it burned up instantly. The rest of the attack transferred over as it hit Izzy, who flung back and let out a painful cry before hitting the ground.

Izzy's Life Points: 7200-

"Izzy, no!" shouted Isaac at seeing the girl take a hard bump.

"That's enough hurting for now. I end my turn."

Izzy began to stir. She already had bruise marks and bumps, and some of her clothes were scorched.

Man, that smarted… that was worse than when I dueled my first Shadow duel.

"Now you know the true power of a Shadow Duel with us. Don't worry, idiot. I'll try to send you to the Shadow Realm with as little pain as possible. That's the only mercy you'll get from me." stated Kross intimidatingly.

"Guys… I wish you were here to help me," muttered Izzy, as she could really use the support of her friends in this moment against someone as powerful as Kross.

Turn 5: Izzy (Hand 3)

"It's my move. And first, since you destroyed my Combat Wheel, I can put two Junk Counters on my Machine Assembly Line spell card."

"It's finally Izzy's turn, but I am slightly worried for her. Let's hope she can handle whatever Kross throws at her," commented Isaac.

"Did you hear that?" smirked Kross as he used his dark powers to overhear Isaac's little monologue to himself. "It seems the World Champion thinks you can handle more punishment. Do you care to test that theory, you stupid hippie?"

"Well, to be honest, I don't like tests. But if it means saving the world and keeping my friends safe, then what's the first question, pal? Cuz my deck is full of answers!" retorted Izzy as she drew her card and looked at it.

Although a cheat sheet might come in handy because as long as Big Benkei is in defense mode, it gonna use those 3500 attack points to wipe out all of my monsters. But maybe I should let him do that-

"I play my field spell, Scrap Factory!"

The building transformed as sections crumbled, making way for Izzy's card, which incorporated a portion of her factory inside the structure.

"Next, I'm summoning my Scrap Recycler(900/1200) in defense mode! Due to its effect, when it's summoned, I can send a 'Machine' type monster from my deck to my graveyard."

Izzy touched her duel screen as she began to cycle through the contents of her deck. Once she chose, she touched the card and clicked confirm as it ejected from the deck. She grabbed it and swiftly sent it away.

"And thanks to my field spell, all my Scrap monsters get 200 points added to both their stats. With that, I end my turn."

"It looks like you're going to fail," mocked Kross.

No, I'm not. I promised my friends.

Turn 6: Kross (Hand 5)

"It's my move. I special summon Superheavy Samurai Trumpeter(300/600). Like my Big Benkei, I can summon it from my hand when I have no spell or trap cards in my graveyard. And there's no way you're ready for what's next. This monster is going to bring you some pain!"

Izzy gulped as she didn't like hearing that.

"I tune my Level 8 Big Benkei with my Level 2 Trumpeter!" Kross's tiny trumpeter blew his horn before it turned into two giant green rings circling its comrade, which turned into eight white stars lined up with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! Superheavy Samurai Warlord Susanowo(2400/3800)!"

A much larger samurai robot warrior appeared as it landed with a thud and swung its weapon out, creating a massive wind force that blew in Izzy's face.

"And like before with my Big Benkei, it can attack using its defense points. Superheavy Samurai Warlord Suasnowo, destroyer her pathetic Scrap Recycler!"

The large samurai swung his weapon, and Izzy's monster was turned into nothing in one hit.

"Since you destroyed my monster, I get two more Junk Counters on my spell."

"Next, I equip my Warlord Suasnowo with my Superheavy Samurai Soulbeads(0/0). Thanks to this, once per turn, it isn't destroyed if you try to destroy my Warlord Suasnowo with a card effect. And with that, I end my turn."

Turn 7: Izzy (Hand 2)

"My move."

"Just give up," stated Kross with a glare. "If your friends were here right now, they'd see how scared you are. You're not a duelist. You're just a little girl who's accidentally stumbled into the big leagues, but you'll learn the hard way that you don't belong here. A hippie like you, a stupid one at that. You're a disgrace to yourself and this game."

"No," said Izzy as she struggled not to let Kross' insults affect her, but it was proving hard. Compared to when everyone else talked about her in such a fashion in the past, it was tolerable, but now here… from him… it was like she felt her heart breaking into pieces by his words.

"Come on, Izzy. Focus. I know you're still working on drowning out people's insults about you, but you need to focus on the task before. Focus on finding a way to take down that Warlord Suasnowo." said Isaac.

"I send my Machine Assembly Line spell card to the graveyard. By doing that, I can summon a 'Machine' type monster from my graveyard whose level is equal to or lower than the number of Junk Counters on it. So I'm bringing back my Scrap Kong(2000/0)."

A gorilla made of junk pieces appeared as it let out a mechanical roar and banged its chest.

"Next, I summon my Junk Synchron(1300/500)!"

A small humanoid machine with big orange feet, forearms, chest plate, and a tall cylindrical hat over a spheroid white head with googly eyes peering from underneath the brim. A white scarf hung from around its neck, and a very eye-catching teal-green 'handle' seemed to be at the bottom right of its chest plate.

"And thanks to its ability, I can summon a Level 2 or lower monster from my graveyard. So my Scrap Recycler is making a return," stated Izzy as her monster put his palm out to open a portal, and her other monster appeared. "Now… I tune my Level 3 Junk Synchron with my Level 4 Scrap Kong!"

Junk Synchron pulled its chord as it turned into three giant green rings circling its comrade, which turned into four white stars lined up with a yellow light surging through.

"The spirits merge to form the arrow that will pierce the sky! I Synchro Summon! Ready your bow, Junk Archer(2300/2000)!"

A humanoid robot wielding a bow and arrow touched down. The robot was clad in white armor with blue and yellow highlights. It had a large, rounded head with a single blue eye. The bow was also white, with blue and yellow accents.

"Heh. Your monster pals in comparison to mine!" stated Kross.

"Then check out its ability. Go, Junk Archer. Bull's Eye Banishing!" commanded Izzy. The girl's monster loaded its arrow into its bow and pulled back. The arrow was infused with blue energy before it was shot forward. The arrow traveled through the air and pierced Kross' monster before the arrow disappeared. Not only that, the monster also vanished as he disappeared into thin air.

"Yes!" exclaimed Izzy with a fist bump.

"Well, that was quite the vanishing act," smiled Isaac.

"What did you do to my monster? How were you able to defeat it? Answer me, you stupid hippie!"

"I didn't defeat your monster. I simply removed him from the game until the end of the turn."

"How?"

"Simple. Junk Archer's special ability allows him to banish one monster till the end of my turn. And with your monster gone and your deck not having any spell or trap cards, I can attack you directly without any consequences." said Izzy. "Junk Archer, take aim and fire! Scrap Arrow!"

Junk Archer made its arrow appear as he loaded it into the bow again and pulled back. Having a clear shot at Kross, he let the arrow fly as it headed toward the Shadow commander in blue energy. It hit him directly in the chest and knocked him to the ground.

Kross' Life Points: 5700-

"I can't believe I let that stupid hippie get a lucky shot in," growled Kross to himself as he began to stir.

"Now, I'm in the lead," smiled Izzy.

"Enjoy it while you can, hippie. Because you and your monster are about to meet your end,"

"In that case, I end my turn."

"And now… my Superheavy Samurai Warlord Susanowo returns!" said Kross as his monster reappeared.

"Your monster may be back, but it no longer has Soulbeads equipped. So that means your destruction protection is gone!" stated Izzy.

Turn 8: Kross (Hand 4)

"It's my move!" said Kross as he drew his card. "Now… Susanowo, take out her monster!"

Kross' monster spun his weapon as he swung it.

"Not so fast! You may not use spell or trap cards, but that doesn't mean I can't!" stated Izzy as she touched her duel screen. "I reveal my Scrap-Iron Scarecrow! Thanks to this trap, I can block your attack."

A makeshift scarecrow made of junk parts appeared as it tanked the hit from Kross' warrior. It held back the attack before it flipped back down on Izzy's field.

"And the best part about it is that once I use it, I can set it facedown to use again later," smirked Izzy.

"You're annoying," growled Kross.

Turn 9: Izzy (Hand 2)

"My move. First, since I control a 'Junk' monster, I can special summon my Junk Servant(1500/1000). Then, I'll activate my Monster Reborn to return a monster from my graveyard. I choose my Junk Synchron. Next, I'll tune my Junk Synchron with my Junk Servant!"

Izzy's monster pulled on its cord and turned into three giant green rings that circled its comrade, who turned into four white stars that lined up with a yellow light surging through.

"I Synchro Summon! Junk Berserker(2700/1800)!"

A powerful warrior wielding a large, jagged sword appeared. The warrior was clad in dark armor with glowing red accents, and its helmet obscured its face.

"Time to get rid of your Warlord Susanowo. Junk Berseker, attack!"

"What game are you playing at?" declared Kross.

"Duel Monsters. But let me introduce you to Junk Berserker's special ability. When it attacks a defense position monster, it can destroy it automatically without any damage calculation. So that means your Susanowo bites the dust!" proclaimed Izzy as Kross's monster vanished.

"No, that's impossible!" yelled the Shadow Duelist as he lifted his arm to cover up.

"And since Junk Berserker's destruction effect happens before the battle phase is initiated, it's still free to attack. So Junk Berserker, attack him directly!" Izzy's monster pulled out its jagged sword and delivered a mighty swipe at the evil boy, who was pushed back as he skidded to a halt.

Kross' Life Points: 3000-

"Junk Archer, your turn!"

Izzy's other monster loaded his bow as he pulled back and released it. The arrow traveled through the air and made contact with the Shadow Duelist, knocking him to the ground again.

Kross' Life Points: 700-

"I'm almost there. Just one more attack," said the girl as she was one final strike away from beating Kross.

Turn 10: Kross (Hand 5)

"I… refuse to lose… to an idiot of all people!" growled the boy as he stood up, and rage filled his eyes. "My move! Since I have no spell or trap cards in my graveyard, I activate the effect of my Superheavy Samurai Motorbike by discarding it. This allows me to add a 'Superheavy Samurai' monster from my deck to my hand. I add this: Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakasuhi(1000/1500, Level 4, Scale 8)."

Kroos ejected the card from his deck, grabbed it, and showed it off. Once Izzy saw the card, she gasped at its artwork.

"Hold on… that's a pendulum card," said the girl.

"Perceptive. I now place my Prodigy Wakasuhi in the pendulum zone!" stated Kross as he placed the card on the far left end of his duel disk.

"Pendulum zone? But you said you don't have any spells in your deck," retorted Izzy.

"Well, I don't consider it a spell card unless it's the pendulum zone. Everywhere else, it's a monster that's synergized perfectly with my other superheavy samurais. Next, I use the effect of Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakasuhi. Since there are no spell or trap cards in my graveyard, I can place my Superheavy Samurai Monk Big Benkei(1000/3500, Level 8, Scale 1) from my deck in my other pendulum zone and special summon Prodigy Wakasuhi from his pendulum zone to my field!"

Kross's monster soon switched positions. It moved from its column of light, which vanished onto the field before the evil boy and its master smirked.

"Next, I use Monk Big Benkei's pendulum effect to add Superheavy Samurai Soulpiercer to my hand. Then, since I have my Prodigy Wakasuhi on the field, I can use its other effect."

"O-other effect?" asked Izzy as she almost regretted asking.

"Since there are no spells or traps in my graveyard, I discard Superheavy Samurai Magnet from my hand to summon another Superheavy Samurai Monk Big Benkei from my deck. Next, I equip my Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakasuhi with the Superheavy Samurai Soulpiercer from my hand. And now… I tune my Level 4 Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakasuhi tuner with the Level 8 Superheavy Samurai Monk Big Benkei!"

Kross's tuner turned into four giant green rings that circled its comrade, who turned into eight white stars lined up with a yellow light surging through.

"Behold a bold monster. Stand fast and immovable. I Synchro Summon! Superheavy Samurai Brave Masurawo(2100/4000)!"

"4000 defense points?!" said Izzy, staring at the huge monster and its strong defense.

"That's right! Which is more points than either of your monsters. Since Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakasuhi and Monk Big Benkei are pendulum monsters, they go to my Extra Deck instead of the graveyard. Next, I use the effect of my Soulpiercer; since it went to the graveyard, I get to add another Superheavy Samurai Soulbeads to my hand. And I'm sure even an idiot like you remembers this move. I equip my Soulbeads onto my Brave Masurawo to give my monster protection should you try to use your Berserker's effect to destroy it."

"That doesn't mean I can't take it down," stated Izzy.

"Next, I summon Superheavy Samurai Security(500/1500). I then use my monster's effect when it's summoned to add back my Prodigy Wakasuhi to my hand. Then, I tribute my Security to special summon Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei from the graveyard in defense mode."

Izzy was now forced to stare down two of Kross's powerhouse as she didn't like her odds.

"Now… It's time to battle. Superheavy Samurai Brave Masurawo, take out her Junk Berserker!"

"Did you forget I still have my facedown? My Scrap-Iron Scarecrow!" stated Izzy as she triggered her card and used it to absorb the attack from Kross's monster before it set back on the field.

"So what? I have another attack primed and ready, and you've already used your trap this turn. So now… Big Benkei, eliminate that Junk Berserker for good!"

I don't have anything to save my monster!

Kross' warrior swung his staff; it knocked Izzy's monster away into the factory wall and exploded. The girl felt the aftermath as she was taken off her feet and hit the ground.

Izzy's Life Points: 6400-

"I end my turn."

Turn 11: Izzy (Hand 1)

"So much for being one attack away," muttered Izzy as she went from being on the offensive to now being on the defensive, given how Kross turned the tables on her in one turn.

"Look at you, cower; just accept that you can't win this fight," stated the evil duelist.

"My move."

Even if I use Junk Archer's ability to banish one of his monsters, it's too weak to take out any of them.

"I activate my spell card, Scrap Breaking! Thanks to this, by tributing my Scrap Recycler, I can draw three new cards."

"As if that will help you."

"I think it will, especially when I play this. Metal Empowerment!" stated Izzy as she held her card out. "Now, by sending a 'Machine' type monster from my deck to the graveyard, I can boost a monster on my field by its attack points. So I'll send my Junk Dragonlet to give my Junk Archer the strength it needs to beat your Brave Masurawo!"

The spirits of Izzy's monster appeared before it was absorbed into its comrade, who put its arrow into its bow. The arrow now had more power coursing through as he pulled back and had the warrior in sight.

"Junk Archer, take out his Superheavy Samurai Brave Masurawo!"

Junk Archer fired its arrow as it traveled with the blue energy turning into a gold color as it exploded upon impact of Kross' monster. He covered up as he stood his ground.

"You may have destroyed my monster, but since it's in defense mode, I don't take any damage!" stated the evil duelist.

He's right. I can take out his monsters all I want, but since he mostly plays them in defense mode, I won't deal him any damage. Meanwhile, he can deal me damage just by staying in that mode. I have to find a way to end him fast.

"I end my turn."

Turn 12: Kross (Hand 3)

"My move. To start, I'll activate the pendulum effect of my Superheavy Samurai Monk Big Benkei to add Superheavy Samurai Soulclaw from my deck to my hand. Next, I equip my Soulclaw to Big Benkei. Since no spell or trap cards are in my graveyard, I'll summon another Superheavy Samurai Trumpeter from my hand. Then I'll activate my Soulclaw's ability to special summon it to the field. Get ready! I tune all three of my monsters together!"

"Uh-oh," said Izzy.

Kross's trumpeter blew his horn as he turned into two giant green rings circling its comrade. They turned into a total of ten white stars that lined up with a yellow light surging through.

"Make way for the pain train! I Synchro Summon! Superheavy Samurai Steam Train King(2000/4800)!"

A large horn whistled before the wall behind Kross crumbled as a large locomotive raced around the two duelists on a railroad track. Izzy was looking around her as she watched the monster. She could see that this monster would be even tougher than before, not just the fierce mask plastered on the front of the locomotive.

"Now, I equip my Superheavy Samurai Soulbang Cannon from my hand onto my Steam Train King to give it 1000 extra defense points, making it now have 5800 points!"

"That's a lot of points," stated the girl.

"Indeed, but first… I activate my Superheavy Samurai Steam Train King's special ability. By discarding up to two cards in my hand, I can then destroy that many cards that you control. So your Junk Archer and your Scrap-Iron Scarecrow are gone!"

"That's not good!" said Izzy, raising an arm to protect herself from the explosions that occurred.

"Superheavy Samurai Steam Train King… steamroll her!"

The train then changed direction, charging straight for Izzy from behind. The girl turned in time to see the locomotive about to run her over; she barely got out of the way but got scraped ever just so and was flung to the ground as she tumbled a bit before coming to a halt. The attack left Izzy bruised as she tried to get up, only to fall back down immediately.

Izzy's Life Points: 600-

"Izzy!" exclaimed Isaac as he saw the girl not moving after taking a brutal hit.

"Heh. I end my turn."

Turn 13: Izzy (Hand 3)

"Izzy! Izzy, are you okay!" shouted Isaac, concerned for the girl as she seemed to be knocked out cold from Kross' latest attack.

The World Champion was worried the girl couldn't continue as he noticed her beginning to stir. Izzy was badly hurt as she struggled to get up.

Guys… if you can hear me. I wish you all were here to give my advice.

"Accept your defeat. It'll make your suffering more tolerable," stated Kross as Izzy got to her feet.

"It's my move. I draw!" stated Izzy as she drew her card. "Since you control a monster and I don't, I can special summon my Scrap Breaker(2100/700). Then I'll trigger his effect; when he's summoned this way, I get to destroy one 'Scrap' monster on my field. So I'll get rid of my Scrap Breaker."

"If you want to help me defeat you, be my guest. Destroying your own monsters shows you have no fate left in yourself."

"Wrong, because since a 'Scrap' effect destroyed my Scrap Breaker, I can trigger my field spell's ability! Now, I can replace my monster with a different one from my deck. So, I'm bringing out my Scrap Golem(2300/1400) in defense mode. Then I activate my Scrap Golem's ability to bring back a Level 4 or lower 'Scrap' monster. I bring back my Scrap Recycler, which triggers his effect and allows me to send a 'Machine' monster from my deck to my graveyard."

Izzy touched her duel screen as she selected her choice. Her card slid out as she sent it away.

"I end my turn."

Turn 14: Kross (Hand 0)

"Thanks for wasting three minutes of my life. I draw. Steam Train King, take out her Scrap Golem!"

The locomotive changed direction as he rammed into Izzy's makeshift monster, breaking it apart.

"Based on your last turn, you have nothing in your deck that can stand up to my Steam Train King. At this point, you're just sending your monsters in for their suicide."

Turn 15: Izzy (Hand 3)

"My move. Now, I activate the effect of my Scrap Recycler. Once per turn, I can select two Level 4 Machine-type Earth monsters in my graveyard to draw a card."

"Why bother? We know you have nothing to take on, my monster."

"I still have a chance. Next, I'm summoning my Scrap Unicorn(1700/1500)!"

Izzy held her card out as a unicorn made of junk pieces appeared. Steam emitted from its nostrils, and it raised on its hind legs, kicking its front legs up high as the horn on its head gleamed with power.

"I activate my Unicorn's effect. I can target one 'Scrap' monster from my graveyard and summon it. So I choose my Scrap Golem! Then I destroy one card, so I'll get rid of my Scrap Unicorn!"

In a blast, Izzy's monster exploded into pieces.

"Now, the effect of my Scrap Factory kicks in. So, I'm bringing out my Scrap Hunter(1600/400). And there's more. Now my Scrap Unicorn can revive itself!" stated Izzy as her steed was reconstructed. "I now tune my Level 3 Scrap Unicorn with my Level 5 Scrap Golem!"

Izzy's horse gave a mechanical neigh before it raced upwards to the sky and turned into three giant green rings that circled its comrade and turned into five white stars lined up with a yellow light surging through.

"I Synchro Summon! Scrap Dragon(2800/2000)!"

A mechanical dragon appeared, roaring with steam from its nostrils. It belted out a roar that made the factory shake.

"With my field spell, it gains 200 attack and defense points."

"Like that's gonna help. My Steam Train King still rules the track with 5800 points."

"Then let me introduce you to my Scrap Dragon's special ability. I target one card you control and one I control; then, I destroy both. So your monster, along with my Scrap Recycler, are gone!"

Both monsters exploded, causing Kross to lift his arm to cover up while Izzy smiled. The girl had cleared her opponent's field as she was prepared to finish this duel. However, just as Izzy was about to send her dragon in to deal the final blow, she noticed something. Kross' body began to glow with a dark aura as she heard the boy growling. He lowered his arm as his eyes were glowing with power, and the marks under his eyes lit up in purple.

"AHHHHHHH!" yelled the boy as he exerted his aura.

"You okay?" asked Izzy.

"That… was the last straw, hippie!" growled Kross as the darkness began to fully take hold of the boy as he had an evil echo added to when he spoke. "Since you destroyed my Steam Train King, I can summon this monster. Meet the dark tuner, Superheavy Samurai Warlord Nobunaga(100/2100)!"

A samurai wielding a katana appeared, and some ancient symbols glowed with darkness.

"When this monster is summoned, it allows me to call forth a comrade whose spirit rests in my graveyard. Arise Superheavy Samurai Warlord Susanowo. And now… I dark-tune my Warlord Nobunaga with my Susanowo!"

The katana swordsman turned into two dark orbs of energy as they were absorbed by the other monster, who began to feel the dark energy taking over as they were covered in darkness.

"Prepare to meet the Destroyer! I Dark Synchro Summon! Superheavy Samurai Daimyo(3000/3500)!"

Izzy looked at the beast Kross had brought out on its armored body. Opaline's symbol was shown, as it had a dark aura surrounding it. The girl was now staring at the Shadow titan, which seemed to draw its power from the boy's evil heart and the dark emotions that flooded it.

"Say your prayers, hippie!"

Izzy gulped before glancing at her hand as she grabbed a card.

"I set one card facedown."

Turn 16: Kross (Hand 0)

"It's over! Daimyo, take out her dragon and finish her for good!"

"I activate my trap, Iron Resolve. Now, I can turn all that damage to zero by cutting my Life Points in half. Plus, the battle phase ends!" stated Izzy as a barrier was put up before her; it shielded her from the aftermatch of her monster's destruction.

Izzy's Life Points: 300-

"You may have survived, but I'm far from dishing you out of pain! I activate Daimyo's special ability. When it destroys a monster, it can cut your Life Points in half!"

Another surge of electricity impacted the barrier that Izzy had up as she was pushed back and tumbled to the ground, groaning in pain.

Izzy's Life Points: 150-

"Game over…"

"You're right… for you at least," responded Izzy. "When Scrap Dragon is destroyed, its effect allows me to bring back a non-Scrap monster from my graveyard… and the monster I choose- is Junk Berserker!"

"NOOOOO!"

Turn 17: Izzy (Hand 3)

"Junk Berserker, let's end this. Take out his Daimyo!" shouted Izzy as she thrusted her arm out on one knee. "Due to its effect, it automatically destroys any defense mode monster it battles. And doing that allows me to get its attack in still and go right for you!"

"This can't be!"

Kross looked on as his monster tried to fight back as it swung its staff; Izzy's monster pulled out its jagged sword to block before he pushed it back and delivered one mighty slash across its foe's chest that caused it to explode as he fell to his knees. Izzy's monster continued forward as he came at Kross, who could only look on as one punch to the chest. He knocked the evil duelist back and let out a defiant, defeated cry before hitting the ground.

Kross' Life Points: 0-
