"Atsushi, do you have what I asked of you?" Dazai asked his student. It had been a few days since the incident, and things had been routine—well, almost. Dazai started working, actually working, which was a rare occurrence. It was the same with Atsushi; he was working more than usual.
"Yeah, I do, Dazai. It's right here," Atsushi said, handing his mentor a red folder. He opened it, smiled, and gave the boy a similar folder. Atsushi took the folder and looked at it with delight. "It was a pleasure doing business with you."
"And same to you." The two boys went back to their own work. Everyone else just watched the two silence.
"Okay, what was that?!" Kunikida asked quietly.
"They're doing their work. I don't understand what you mean," Kyouka said calmly.
"Kyouka, those two, especially Dazai, don't really do paperwork or any work in the office," Ranpo said.
"Oh, now that you mention it, Atsushi bought a box with a lock on it the day after the incident. I saw him take out one of those folders and put its contents in the box before locking it," Kyouka said. "When I asked about it, he said it was nothing and told me to mind my business." Everyone looked at the former assassin with surprise. Atsushi treated the girl like she was his precious little sister. For him to act like this was not in his nature. They watched as Atsushi and Dazai exited their seats and exited the building.
"Ok, we really need to keep an eye on them from now on," Fukuzawa said. "Tanizaki, take Kunikida with you and follow those boys. Find out where they're going and then report back." The two men nodded their heads and turned to follow the others.
As Atsushi and Dazai walked, the younger felt a presence behind them. "Dazai, we have some tag-a-longs," he told his mentor in a hushed voice.
"Well, we'd better lose them," Dazai replied in the same tone. Then, the two looked at each other before nodding. Once they reached an intersection, they separated, each going in the opposite direction. The action surprised Tanizaki and Kunikida.
"You follow Atsushi, I'll take Dazai," the former math teacher said. Tanizaki nodded at Kunikida and turned to follow Atsushi. After seeing the younger boy following their resident weretiger, Kunikida turned to race after the mummy.
For someone who was one of the agency's laziest people, Dazai was extremely quick. Kunikida was right behind him initially, but when Dazai turned a corner, he was somehow a block away. However, he may not seem like it, but Dazai was one of the agency's most intelligent detectives. And with his experience in the Port Mafia, Dazai knew how to lose a tail. He quickly ducked into a nearby cafe, and Kunikida followed. Once inside, he looked around for the brown-haired man, not realizing that his target had already slipped out with a group of people. After looking around for ten minutes, Kunikida couldn't find Dazai. He sighed before walking out and grabbing his phone from his back pocket. He quickly dialed someone's number. After a couple rings, the recipient picked up, "I lost Dazai. He slipped out of my line of sight into a cafe. What about you?" he said to the man on the other end of the line.
"I lost Atsushi as well. He used his ability to climb up the fire escape on the side of a building. I tried to follow him from the ground while he ran on top of the buildings, but he was too quick for me. Sorry, Kunikida," Tanizaki responded.
"Its alright, Tanizaki," Kunikida sighed, "Just report back to the agency for now. I'll meet you there." After getting a response from the younger, Kunikida hung up the phone before walking back to the agency. He knew he would get a scolding from the President once he returned.
