Prompt: "Timing is key."
"Says the one that's always late."
"Alright, Lace, you ready?"
Lacey rolled her eyes as she finished typing her workout shoes and stood to stretch. She was alongside the mats that Barney had gotten installed in one of the side rooms at the hanger years ago, making it into the team's de-facto gym. Today, however, it was serving as Jacoba's classroom, since she had been nominated (by herself, but no one had opposed her idea) to attempt to teach Lacey some basic self-defense. This would be the first lesson, and Lacey could tell that Jacoba was slightly nervous, but she knew that it would all work out in the end. "Yeah, I'm ready."
Her best friend smiled wise as they faced each other. "Alright, let's start with gauging what you already know. So, tell me what you know."
"Well, I do know a little bit about punching from Lee. And quite a bit about slapping, but you know about that as well." Both women chuckled as they remembered some of their excursions to different bars that had ended with some of the guys having to come and pick them up. "But that is pretty much it. Oh! And I know S.I.N.G."
Jacoba looked at Lacey for a couple of minutes with a confused look on her face before her eyes widened in realization and she slapped her forehead. "I'd actually forgotten about that; it's been a really long time since I've watched that movie. That is a good basis, especially if your mind blanks on everything else. Now, I need to remind you that, even with S.I.N.G., timing is key."
"Says the one that's always late!"
Lacey and Jacoba turned towards the lifting equipment that was along the other side of the gym to see Hale Caesar standing there with a huge smirk on his face. Rolling her eyes, Jacoba just turned back towards Lacey and decided to ignore him. Which worked only for a little while, until the women heard, "Hey, Amazon?"
Sighing, Jacoba turned back to the heavy weapons specialist (who hadn't moved much) with her eyebrows raised. "Yes, Caesar?"
"You guys mentioned a movie and something called sing. What are you talking about?"
Jacoba snorted and looked over at her best friend, who was now attempting to hold in her own laughter. "I take it that you have never seen Miss Congeniality?"
"Is that a girly movie?"
Jacoba rolled her eyes. "If you mean to ask if it is a romantic comedy, only a bit. It is a comedy with a side of action and only a hint of romance. And S.I.N.G is a self-defense acronym that Sandra Bullock's character demonstrates in the movie. It stands for solar plexus, instep, nose, and groin; these are the basic areas to focus your defense when you are attacked, especially from behind."
"And they taught this in a comedy movie?"
That's how Lee found Jacoba, Lacey, Caesar, and Gunnar (who had walked in as they were putting in the movie and had decided to stay) in the hanger's sitting room half an hour later, watching Miss Congeniality. Shaking his head, he turned to go find Barney to forewarn him that that movie was going to be quoted around the hanger for a while.
