New students

A/N: Hey everyone, I am so glad you all enjoyed my first chapter of my new story. So far, good comments, from a few people. But from the rest, please stop commenting and messaging me about you doing art for my story, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR BUISNESS, I WILL SEEK SOMEONE OUT IF I WANT AN ARTIST!

But with all of that said. I am glad people are taking a liking with this story. And that is the biggest twist, Jaune is shorter here. Like in real life, and in other media. People have a better appreciation for people who are taller, usually due to a feeling of security, and intimidation. While shorter guys are looked down on, both figuratively and literally. Especially with how women are picky with men's height.

So Jaune here is actually shorter in this. I have never seen a story with Jaune being under 6 feet, and there was never a story about him being a janitor. They deserve love too people!

The men in RWBY that I have seen, are usually tall, where everyone is average height of 5'9-5'10. Oscar is shorter than Ruby, but he is still young and is still growing. So we can only imagine what guys go through in this series, since they favor women over men usually in this.

I will try to be more creative, creating AUs is never easy for me, but I do hope it will work out here.

So without a further ado.

Let's Go!

Jaune was using his mop, to dry mop the auditorium. He didn't wet it due to not needing to mop it down, the robots around did their job as usual. To make sure he didn't attract any dirt, he wore shoe coverings on his surprisingly comfortable boots. When he was done, he breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the work he was at least able to do. His job was pretty easy all things considered.

The robots, and Miss Goodwitch did a lot of the heavy lifting. But he did what he could. He was able to do other things like putting toilet paper in the dorms. When the students get in, it will be on them to put whatever they want in there. They will deliver toilet paper if they need it, and some basic towels, toiletries, soaps, blankets, etc. if they need it. But the students will have to supply whatever else they want to personally have.

But, going through those dorms filled Jaune with disappointment and sadness. Knowing that he will never be able to be in here, to be a student. To be a warrior. To be a hero. And to make real friends.

The only real friend he had growing up, and his crush at the time was Terra. His sister in law now.

She was the only one who didn't see him as a nuisance or pathetic, due to his height, and how clumsy he was. She liked him for him. He met her through Saphron. They were childhood friends, the three were almost inseparable. Out of all his sisters, Saphron was the closest to him. His younger sisters, the twins, were right there with her.

He grew to like Terra after a while. He was 14 when he was going to confess to her to tell her that she was his best friend, and he liked her for a long time now.

But when he went to go confess, he seen her and Saphron making out like their lives depended on it. They seen him and jumped in shock. Their family knew that Saph and Terra weren't straight, but they liked boys too. They said they were seeing each other for almost a year but didn't show it.

They knew that Jaune had a crush on Terra, but they thought it was just a puppy dog crush. But, as he got older, they seen him still having those feelings, and they didn't know how to break it to him. They thought that they will wait until he's a little bit older to break the news to him.

All three had a sit down and talked about it. Jaune confessed to her how he felt, and how she was his only real friend. Terra talked to him, and told him that she was so happy that Jaune felt that way, but told him that her heart belonged to Saphron. She even gave him few kisses on the cheek and forehead to show that she cares for him.

Saphron did the same and apologized for essentially breaking his heart. Jaune just told her that, it was ok, that she was closer to Terra than he was. She promised that things will never be strained between them, and they all hugged it out.

Over time they got married when they were 18, because they had a deep love and understanding between each other for years. Jaune was just 15 at the time. Even though they were married, he still cried when he was alone. Knowing that he probably lost the love of his life.

But when Saphron and Terra's relationship was more out in the open. Saphron and Terra spent more time together. So Jaune didn't really have anyone to hang out with except for his sisters.

He didn't have friends, girls didn't take a liking to him, saying that "they wanted a man that can look out for them." Translation they wanted a tall guy that they had to look up at them. And feel that taller guys are hotter.

Jaune knew it was bull crap, since every guy around were usually always taller than them, and him. Heck bullies loved to pick on him, he was literally dangled from his underwear on a fence pole one time, when he was in his last year in middle school. Not a fun time, he graduated high-school simply enough. He was considered an average student graduating with an 80. And people writing in his note book.

"Shorty", "Midget", "Loser", "Forever Virgin", and "Disgrace" to name some of them. The last one was due to how everyone thought that Jaune would never be what usually male Arcs always were, warriors. Granted they didn't just bully him due to his height, the boys wanted to get to his sisters, and seen that being close to Jaune was the best way. When they were denied, they took it out on him. He was always socially awkward, and was not able to make friends easily. He was a dork, and people and people saw him as an easy target. But, regardless of what his family or peers said about him he had hope. Hope that he will be better than he is, and will be a hero for everyone. So he left and cheated his way in to prove everyone wrong. And to help others not matter the cost.

But, now here he is sweeping, mopping, and cleaning the rooms and floors of a place that birthed those heroes. He will see them all train and graduate, while he will just stay an clean up their messes. Jaune just sighed.

"I guess this is what I get for using those transcripts, this could be my punishment." Jaune said, placing the last toilet paper role for the room.

He knows that he will fade in the background, alone. He seen some cleaners with their own families, but he feels that he won't be so lucky. Everyone had something above him. His height.

He was told that he was handsome, by his mom. But he sees himself as average. But, again short guys at his age is rare, and are often forgotten or not seen. They are usually alone, and live quiet lives, but they don't really find love. Sure they may have found some friends, but they almost never find girls who like them.

So Jaune just cleaned and stocked up on the rooms one last time. He just thinks how will things go with the students moving in. He managed to see some of the upper years, but there are few around since they would sometimes live off campus during breaks. And he only shows up when they are done in whatever area they are at. Usually in gyms, and training areas, so they wouldn't really see him. He was just afraid what they will say to him, and about him.

So he decided to just watch from the distance. Amazed how they moved and fought. He has seen this a thousand times being at Beacon for a month, and it still amazes him to no end.

But watching, he always froze up in realization. His family lied to him about hunters!

Well not much lying, but more of watering down the stories. They never said anything about how they fight, just saying that, "I swung my sword, and lopped the grimm's head off." Or something like, "Granpa, led his team into the fray, and achieved victory."

Sure you don't want to traumatize your child about the horrors of battle, and seeing others die, bleed, or being dismembered. But they should have told him about aura, and how people are able to fight so fast, and strong. He always knew that the grimm were dangerous, but he didn't know how dangerous they actually were, and vicious they can be. His family really thought that he would have grown out of his dream.

That explains why his dad gave him one sparring match and ended up saying that "you don't have what it takes, son." They didn't want to train him, and they wanted to protect him to no end.

It seems that they just wanted him to be a house husband. They assume that is the most safest job for him, and it also explains why they always taught him how to sew, cook good meals, and clean good enough. While he agrees that that everyone should have those skills to live in general, but they made it him do stuff like that almost religiously. Along side with other random things, anything that could keep his mind off huntsmen work, or even fighting in general.

They never even taught him how to throw a proper punch, just to run away, and come to them if he needed to fight. Which is another people didn't like him either, he was a momma's boy, so to speak. His short stature didn't help either, which reinforced people calling him a baby.

As Jaune got done cleaning the training area, he looked at his work, to see it shiny. He does hope people truly like how he could pretty good, but he knows that as long as he keeps hidden, and not show himself, everyone will always just assume that the robots have been doing all the work.

He knows that he will have to reveal himself eventually, but he is not mentally and spiritually prepared for everyone to see him. He was teased to no end for being so short, being told he was a failure from his peers, and indirectly by some adults around him. Bullies, even said that: "The only women who would willing get you off, is those two hands of yours. But even then, they will go through hell pleasuring something as small you." Said one of his bullies. He could still hear their laughter.

And one was saying that, his sisters would probably be the only women who would even touch him.

At the time he punched the one who said that right in his gut. The guy buckled at the time, but then everyone jumped him, for doing that, they were angry for him for trying anything, but laughed at his poor attempts to do anything. He was 14 at the time this happened.

He tried to exercise and train himself, but his parents, and some of his sisters, stopped him from trying to do teach himself about fighting. They just allowed him to do farm work. While annoying for the most part, it was good physical work, but being teased again for smelling like some animals, was not a good feeling.

So he had somewhat of a farmer's build, but he was only doing that kind of work for a few years, so not a lot of huge improvement, but it went nice. He felt in shape but, people still called him a noodle, probably because he always wore loose clothes on his upper body. That and he is not built like someone who lifts weights like other people who work out, he is lean muscled, but people refuse to see that, but just see Jaune Arc, the short, failure.

But now, here amongst a school where people trained their whole lives to fight, he has seen what everyone looks like from a distance. Some built solid, but not like a body builder, but of a warrior.

But the women, by the gods they were gorgeous. Some were more built than others, but they were all surprisingly voluptuous. Some were thin, but still had a killer figure that every woman would want. They were like goddesses, and easily an 8 out of 10, on a bad day.

Maybe that was a requirement for huntresses, they all have to be drop dead gorgeous.

But, the truly stunning ones were of the 3rd and 4th year students, to be fair they are adults by then so that is a given. They were 20, and they were only going to get more beautiful from there.

And he knows that his time here will just be sad and painful. Surrounded by beautiful women, but none would want to look your way for long, that was really sad to be honest. He heard through the grape vine, translation, able to ease drop on conversations, both purposely and accidently, but he heard from majority of the people around that, he is average looking. He heard that if he was taller he would be 6 or 7. To be fair he assumed that was just biased against him, but he heard that, they appreciate him being a gentleman but, they thought his physical appearance was not their cup of tea.

But now, new students will come, and they will be relentless. Teasing and making fun of the short cleaner. Sure some may have grown out of that pettiness but some still will hold that animosity. He just hopes that they will at least be kind to him.

The Bullheads, were going to land soon. So he decided to wait somewhat out of sight not wanting to be seen as of yet, but waited to clean up any mess that the students might leave.

He seen almost 100 new students come out of the bullheads, and smiled at the people who were looking at their new home. But, Jaune knew that this is not their home yet, they were initiates, after they pass initiation, then they will be students.

He seen a girl turn into a Chibi? That caused him to rub his eyes and shake his head, to see this phenomenon happening before him. She slowly started to float away a little, until what looked like one of the most beautiful women he has ever seen pulled her by her hood, turning the girl in red and black back to normal.

He just shook his head at this, and chuckled a little seeing them get along.

But then the beautiful girl, ran off with a bunch of different people, probably her friends, while leaving her, friend alone. She just became dizzy, and he was about to run out to help her, but she fell into someone's luggage.

He truly felt bad for the girl, being yelled at, it reminded him, when his sisters got angry at him.

The girl in question, he thought that she was truly the most magnificent looking girl he has witnessed. She had this elegant look, with hair, and skin almost like snow. She reminds him of an angel, a snow angel in fact, truly beautiful.

He seen her shaking a what looked like a vial of dust in front of the girl's face! Jaune's eyes widened and was about to yell something, all before the girl in red and black sneezed causing an explosion, one that caused a small crater.

Jaune was walking toward them, about to say something to break up the fight between them. Before he seen a mysterious raven haired girl being passive aggressive to the girl in white. He was able to hear the words SDC, and something about slave labor. The girl in white just got angry, scoffed and walked away angrily.

The girl in red was about to thank the girl, but she was already walking away. Jaune was getting closer able to hear her say, in a defeated tone.

"Welcome to Beacon." The girl said dejectedly, laying in the crater.

Jaune just looked on sad. He could see himself in her in a way. Lost, alone, no one to be with you to lift you up. It was truly lonely, and this cute girl needed someone. So screw the past experiences, and screw his fear, he will help this girl in need! He will be hero, in his own little way!

Jaune walked up to the girl, reaching his hand down.

"U-umm, hey uh….do you need a hand?" Jaune asked her. She looked up at him curiously, and grabbed his hand. She stood up brushing her skirt a little.

"Thank you." She said to him. She looked at him again curiously, tilting her head cutely, almost like a puppy confused.

"I didn't see you on the bullhead, are you a student too?" The girl asked him, but then she raised an eyebrow. "And, why are you dressed as a janitor?" She asked not seeing the mop in his hand. Jaune just froze and paled a little and just ripped off the band-aid.

"I-I'm actually the janitor here, at Beacon." Jaune muttered out, while grabbing his special mop behind his back. Ruby perked up at this.

"Oh, well thank you sir, I am so sorry for making such a huge mess." The girl apologized genuinely, bowing a little. Jaune just gave a small smile. "But, I do have to say, you look very young." She said innocently. Jaune froze at this. She thought he was older. Well that is fair, majority of the janitors in this world are usually on the older side, so it made sense to assume that. But, what would happen if she knew that he was close to her age. She will probably think that he was pathetic, and see him as creepy.

Women don't trust janitors/ maintenance men, since they feel that they are perverts, cleaning the areas for women, and are desperate to have some kind of connection toward a woman.

But, Jaune kind of accepted his fate that, he will never be able to have women to take him seriously. But, that's not to say he will not still try. So try he will right now. Ignoring the heart pounding fear going off in his ears.

"I…..I am actually s-seventeen. And I started working here a month ago." Jaune stuttered out a little. He almost curled in on himself due to what he had to say to her. He was so prepared for the laughing, and the mocking, but that didn't come. She just stared on wide eyed and shocked.

"Wait what, your older than me, but barely!" The girl yelled out. This caused Jaune to look at her incredulously. She was younger than him?! That's impossible every initiate was at least 17 years old! But Jaune froze for a second remembering how Ozpin pitched in a meeting about letting a young lady into Beacon early, he never got the name, so this must be her. What are the odds, huh?"

"Your old as my sister but, you're a janitor?" The girl asked looking really confused. "And why, would they want to hire custodians, don't they have robots for that, for the most part?" She asked him. Jaune had the same question at first, but gave the best answer that Ozpin gave him.

"Well the headmaster said, even though we have robots, sometimes some things still needs a person's touch." Jaune said to her. The girl thought about it, but agreed.

"Yeah that's true, like how robots can mass produce weapons, but it truly takes a living persons touch to really make a weapon sing." The girl said, giving a smile to herself. Jaune was actually enjoying having small talk, this is the first time besides Terra that he is able to have a decent conversation with a girl!

They started walking without them realizing it.

"Oh by the way, I am Jaune Arc, your schools, well janitor." Jaune said to her finally introducing himself. The girl stopped and smiled at him.

"It's great to meet you Mr. Arc! I'm Ruby Rose!" Ruby spoke cheerfully. She was so happy, she met someone on her own, and her social awkwardness hasn't done anything bad yet, with him at least.

But then they fell into silence…so much for not being socially awkward. So Ruby did one of the things she was good at, showing off weapons.

"Soooo…..I got this." Ruby said bringing out her weapon Cresent Rose. Jaune leaped back a little clutching his cleaning tool(mop).

"Woah, is that a scythe?" Jaune asked pointing at it. Ruby perked up and brought the body of her weapon to her body.

"Yep, she is also a High Impact Sniper Rifle!" Ruby said to Jaune in pride. Jaune at first drew a blank, but after being here at Beacon for a month, he really started to understand what guns are supposed to be, well somewhat.

"So, also a gun. Cool." Jaune said nodding at this. Ruby just cocked her gun, smirking at the right answer.

"Yep." Ruby said popping the P in yep at the end. "But, what about you since you're a staff member you should have a weapon right?" Ruby asked. Jaune just froze a little, and looked down sadly a little. He slowly extended his mop to her.

"I have this mop. It is much stronger than a regular mop, and I can use it somewhat as a staff. The mop head is removable, and I can customize it, for when I need to do a specific job." Jaune spoke in embarrassment, and sadness.

Ruby just looked on with slight disappointment, what was cool was he could use it is a staff to hit people with. Especially since his mop looked to be made of metal, and some kind of composite material, looked very strong. But why not give him anything to fight with properly, he is a Beacon staff member, so he should be able to fight with a weapon that can do better damage, so why? But, out of respect for Jaune, and the fact that he looks sad talking about it she decided to throw him a bone.

"O-oh ok. At least it can be used as a blunt weapon, just wished it had a gun to it." Ruby said a little shakily. Jaune just looked down a little sadly. But Ruby wasn't done. "But, you said you can customize it, that is a really good mop then, you can do a lot with it." Ruby said to him. She was legitimately starting to actually like the mop, she could even do something with it herself, if she was allowed to work on it!

Jaune perked up and looked at his mop. That is true he was told it was customizable so what else can he do with it? So far only different mop heads, dusters, window squeegees, even a little pick and claw to pick up trash with. But, what else can he do, he will have to wait for a few more days, until his aura can be unlocked, and he was told by Ozpin and Goodwitch that he will be able to get a lot more things over time.

Jaune looked at Ruby with great appreciation.

"Thank you so much Ruby, for making me feel better about my tool." Jaune said to her gratefully. Ruby smiled and blushed a little at his thank you to her, and how he smiled at her, it made her feel warm inside. And happy that she was able to help someone in anyway.

"Y-your welcome Mr. Arc." Ruby said looking away slightly. "But, I do have to ask, why don't you have a better weapon, or something that could at least be used at a distance, unless you have a semblance that can help you with that, but no gun or anything, it's really weird?" Ruby asked him. This caused Jaune to look down sadly again, there was a reason, but it was a stupid and petty reason that was out of his control, but he couldn't tell her not yet.

"I….I don't want to talk about it, at least not yet." Jaune said forcing a small smile. Ruby nodded at this. But then she decided to ask something to get off that topic.

"By the way though, why did you help me out back there?" Ruby asked. "I know your part of staff, but you didn't have to talk or be nice to me." Ruby said to him. Jaune just gained a real smile.

"Well, my mom always says, "strangers are just friends you haven't met yet." Jaune said to her. "And, besides you looked like you needed someone to help you out, and not be so alone. I also felt that even if I can't be a huntsman, I could at least be a hero in other things, right?" Jaune said to her, and ending with question to her, and towards himself. Ruby smiled gratefully at him, but then tilted her head in confusion.

"Wait, what do you mean can't be a huntsman? Everyone that is on staff at Beacon is a licensed hunter right?" Ruby asked him. This made Jaune deflate. He sadly shook his head, with a bitter smile.

"Well no, I am not, with all things considered, I am practically the only civilian on campus." Jaune revealed to her. "So I missed my chance, due to certain things that I don't want to get into, that and my height." Jaune said to her.

'I don't want you to hate me, because of the reason for me being rejected.' Jaune thought to himself. Ruby turned her full body to him furrowing her brows a little.

"What does your height have to do anything about it?" Ruby demanded, crossing her arms at him. Jaune just looked at her strangely.

"Well…it's because I'm short." Jaune said to her, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. This caused Ruby to get slightly upset.

"So? Look at me I am short, and I got in here two years early, so your height shouldn't be a problem." Ruby said with fire. Jaune just turned to her with wide eyes.

'She's only 15?! Wow she must be truly amazing!' Jaune thought to himself. For some reason Ruby, started to blush a little feeling flattered. But Jaune decided to elaborate more.

"Well, you see, people don't take too kindly to men who are short, they don't feel like they are reliable enough, and they all like taller guys as preference. And if someone who is a guy is short out in the field, the people will feel like they wouldn't be saved or protected, thinking that he is weak." Jaune said to her, explaining what he read up on.

This made Ruby angry, not at him but at others who think that.

"Are you serious?!" Ruby yelled out. "Just because a guy is short doesn't mean he can't do anything in a fight! I mean come on, why aren't they thinking like that towards short girls, who are huntresses?!" Ruby ranted out. This made Jaune's eyes go wide. He never seen someone outside his family defend him, or those who are shorter than the average person.

"W-well, they do look down on short girls at first, thinking that they are weak. But, seeing them move and fight they eat those words, and people don't really have that much bias towards women as they do men." Jaune said to her. Ruby just crossed her arms and pouted a little.

"That's not fair, we have the benefit of the doubt but guys aren't treated good, what is all that about, I seen old people who are short and they don't get treated bad." Ruby said pouting at that information. Jaune looked at her with wide eyes, almost tearing up hearing how much Ruby cared about his situation. It was truly refreshing. Jaune just wiped his eyes, and smiled at her.

"Thank you Miss Rose, that really meant a lot to me." Jaune said smiling at her. This caused Ruby to calm down and smile happily at him. Jaune feels that he made his first friend on his own. Even though she probably only sees it as professional between student and staff. But then she looked around.

"Uhhhh do you know where we are supposed to go?" Ruby asked him. Jaune perked up at this.

"Oh yes, you and the other intitiates are supposed to go to the amphitheater, it's kind of an auditorium, but that's besides the point, follow me." Jaune said guiding Ruby towards her destination. It only took them at least two minutes to get there, and they could see all the people in the humongous room. This was defiantly an amphitheater, but without the seats.

"Here we are, and it looks like you didn't miss anything, thankfully." Jaune said to her. Ruby was about to say something, but she heard her sister yell out to her, and waving to her.

"Hey Ruby, I saved you a spot!" The blonde girl yelled out to Ruby.

"Oh coming!" Ruby yelled out. She then turned to Jaune and thanked him. "That's my sister, thank you so much for the help, I do hope to see you around more." Ruby said to Jaune running toward her sister. Jaune just waved and stood at the entrance.

He frowned at the sight before him. He was envious not being able to stand among everyone as a future warrior. It felt like the amphitheater's entrance was a line he was never allowed to cross. He looked over to see Ruby telling her sister off. He just gave a small smile at the sight. If one girl can not care about his height, and be kind to him, then being might not be so bad, he just hopes he finds others who would care for him.

With all that said, he went back to the docks, he had to pick up any trash that the initiates dropped, and clean up any of the crater mess Ruby left. Jaune just sighed at this, he will have to tell Miss Goodwitch, this will put her in a bad mood. Hopefully she won't be angry at her about this, brothers and Oum above help him.

A/N: I want to deeply apologize for how this chapter came about. I was being too lazy to change most of it. I know it's just word vomit for the most part, but I just wanted to make more of point, how this world treats others of different heights. The faunus already go through things, and short guys go through some stuff too sadly.

And, I am trying to make it start off that most people with the mindset of being a janitor as a miserable, and not an ideal job. Which is what Jaune is kind of feeling right now.

And, his mop is really customizable, you will see why he was not allowed a weapon later on. It will kind of be in a smart way of how to do things.

With all of that said, thank you all for reading, and I do hope and pray that you will continue to read my stories.

With all of that said, again! I hope and pray all of you will stay safe.

And Finally, May God Continue To Bless You All!
